‘Breaking Dawn – Part 1’ Wins Best Movie 2012 At Movie Awards

Penultimate ‘Twilight’ film earns the series its fourth Golden Popcorn in the category. By Amy Wilkinson Taylor Lautner accepts Best Movie for “Breaking Dawn” at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images UNIVERSAL CITY, California — It was a pair of four-peats for “The Twilight Saga” at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards , as the vampire romance not only took home Best Kiss , but the night’s big award — Best Movie — as well. The flick beat out fellow contenders “The Hunger Games,” “Bridesmaids,” “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” and “The Help” for its fourth consecutive Golden Popcorn in the category. Stars Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, Nikki Reed, Jackson Rathbone and producer Wyck Godfrey took the stage to accept the award from presenter and Stewart’s “Panic Room” co-star, Jodie Foster. “Thank you so much, you guys, I know I always say the same thing,” Stewart said. “I’ve been promoting ‘Snow White,’ and I get asked a lot of questions, especially about ‘Twilight,’ which I love. The most common is, like, ‘God, you must be so happy to get away from it. You must be so happy to distance yourself from it as far away as you possibly can.’ And I’m like, ‘Shut up! What are you talking about?’ I know we’ve been here for a while, so really, thank you very much.” “We really have so many people to thank, not only for this award but for the past few years,” Lautner chimed in. “But first and foremost, we have to thank you guys. I want to thank the whole entire cast and crew for their hard work and passion on this. Our producers, Wyck Godfrey and Karen Rosenfelt. Our incredible director Bill Condon, all of Summit Entertainment. And I forgot a big one, the creator of this thing, producer and author Stephenie Meyer. I’m so excited for you guys to see the last and final part of ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2’ in theaters November 16.” Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. If Nicki Minaj Isn’t Hip-Hop, Neither Is Eminem, Ed Lover Says

But Doctor Dre tells ‘RapFix Live’ Nicki should have played Summer Jam: ‘You go out there and you perform for your fans.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Nicki Minaj Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage When it comes to Nicki Minaj versus Hot 97 , it’s hard not to have an opinion. And, of course, Sunday’s Summer Jam drama came up during Wednesday’s (June 6) “RapFix Live.” During the special episode, MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway shared hosting duties with “Yo! MTV Raps” legends Ed Lover and Doctor Dre, who weighed in on the situation. “You can’t look at anybody that crosses over and achieves pop appeal as a sellout, because that’s what you’re trying to do when you put a record out,” Ed Lover said. “So if Nicki Minaj ain’t real hip-hop, then Public Enemy wasn’t real hip-hop, then Run-DMC wasn’t real hip-hop, then Eminem ain’t real hip-hop.” After Hot 97 DJ Peter Rosenberg criticized Nicki’s “Starships” single, suggesting the track wasn’t real hip-hop, Minaj’s Young Money boss Lil Wayne decided to cancel the Summer Jam performance. According to Doctor Dre, that’s a no-no: The show must go on. “First of all, Nicki Minaj was the only one who ruined 55,000 fans’ expectations of the night. It has nothing to do with Rosenberg. You go out there and you perform for your fans,” he said. While Dre feels that Nicki should have performed that night, he also believes Rosenberg was out of line. “We have too many what I call ‘semi-super experts’ who always try to redefine hip-hop from its infancy,” he argued. In the late 1990s, Ed and Dre hosted “Yo! MTV Raps,” and on Thursday, they will be the subjects of VH1’s new Rock Doc “Yo: The Story of Yo! MTV Raps.” During their iconic run, they’ve interviewed artists such as 2Pac, the Notorious B.I.G. and Rakim, just to name a few. They’ve seen many artists come and go. “She’s an artist whether I like her or I don’t like her. My daughter loves her and thinks that she’s the world, and that’s the case,” Dre said before issuing a challenge to Rosenberg. “You make your record and get in the ring and let’s see how you react, whether you start to sell out or not.” Where do you stand in the Young Money/ Summer Jam drama? ‘Catching Fire’ Finnick Fever: Casting Rumors Heat Up!

‘Hunger Games’ sequel reportedly eyeing Armie Hammer, Taylor Kitsch and Garrett Hedlund for the role; let’s take a closer look. By Fallon Prinzivalli Armie Hammer Photo: Getty Images Fans have been rallying behind their favorite actors to star in “The Hunger Games” since the books were released. The most popular character to speculate about is Finnick Odair, who makes his debut in the franchise’s second novel, “Catching Fire.” With the movie set to begin filming in the fall, rumors have been flying surrounding who will land the role of the dreamy District 4 victor. Most recently, Robert Pattinson was linked to the part , and even though fans supported him, he quickly denied those rumors. With countless actors’ names tossed into the casting hat, there’s speculation that the film may be down to its final three choices for Finnick. E! Online reports a source who revealed the top guys in the running are “Battleship” star Taylor Kitsch , “The Social Network” actor Armie Hammer and “TRON: Legacy” star Garrett Hedlund . When MTV News reached out to Lionsgate for confirmation, we received this statement: “Like the first film, Lionsgate won’t be commenting on any of the rumors until we officially announce.” Alongside “Bridesmaids,” “The Hunger Games” is the most-nominated film at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards landing eight nods including Best Kiss, Best Cast and the coveted Movie of the Year. Jennifer Lawrence is nominated for Best Actress, Josh Hutcherson is up for Best Actor and Liam Hemsworth has a shot at Breakthrough Performance. There’s still time to vote for your favorite stars before the awards air this Sunday, June 3 at 9 p.m. ET by heading over to MovieAwards.MTV.com . So while we wait to see which film is your favorite and which leading man is joining this incredible cast of stars, we thought we’d take a look at the good and bad of each actor landing the role of Finnick. Taylor Kitsch The Good : If you’ve seen “Friday Night Lights,” you know Kitsch’s ability to play a self-assured character. As womanizer Tim Riggins, he certainly knows how to gaze at a lady until she swoons. Finnick exudes the same arrogant charm — though he’s more of a one-woman man. At one point in “Catching Fire,” he reads a poem to the citizens of the Capitol dedicated to his one true love, and many of the audience members faint, believing it’s about them. Kitsch certainly has that same charisma to capture viewers’ attention. The Bad : Kitsch’s huge roles aren’t gaining him any box-office success. After Disney shelled out $250 million on the epic “John Carter,” it raked in only $30.6 million domestically its first weekend in theaters. Similarly, he headed up Peter Berg’s “Battleship,” which was released in theaters May 18 and currently has a 34 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While he’d be a supporting character to Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss, he may need the success of the franchise more than the franchise needs him. Armie Hammer The Good : Like Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson, Hammer played a vital role in a film nominated for Best Picture at the 83rd annual Academy Awards. With “The Social Network” under his belt, he’d fit right in with Lawrence, who was nominated for Best Actress for her role in “Winter’s Bone,” and Hutcherson, whose film “The Kids Are All Right” was also nominated for Original Screenplay. He can hold his own in the spotlight and already understands the fame that comes with a wildly popular film. If the casting directors continue on their award-winning path, choosing Hammer is a no-brainer. The Bad : His tight schedule may conflict with “The Hunger Games” when it begins filming. He’s currently working on “The Lone Ranger” with Johnny Depp and is already linked to three other films with tentative 2013-14 release dates: “By Virtue Fall,” “Cut Bank” and “2:22.” Since this role is so important to fans, they won’t want an actor who may not be able to devote 100 percent to the project. Garrett Hedlund The Good : Hedlund recently made his way to the Cannes Film Festival, where he debuted his film “On the Road” alongside “Twilight” star Kristen Stewart. While the film itself received mixed reviews , Owen Gleiberman from Entertainment Weekly singled out Hedlund’s acting, writing, “The best thing in the movie is Garrett Hedlund’s performance as Dean Moriarty. … [He] is as hunky as the young Brad Pitt, and like Pitt, he’s a wily, change-up actor. He gives Dean eyes that glitter with a seductive enthusiasm that borders on being a little cracked.” Did that last sentence also instantly remind you of Finnick, “Hunger Games” fans? The Bad : While he’s been fairly successful in films like “Country Strong” and “Four Brothers,” he hasn’t had enough roles allowing him to prove his abilities to take on such a large project. The role of Finnick may shock him a bit, especially considering the fame that’s sure to come along with it. But then again, he could always ask Stewart for advice. While we wait to hear who will officially be taking on the role of Finnick, catch your favorite “Hunger Games” actors at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. Black Keys Starting A Band With Johnny Depp After Movie Awards?

Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney joke about forming a T. Rex cover band with Depp and Matthew McConaughey. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Johnny Depp and the Black Keys perform at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images UNIVERSAL CITY, California — The 2012 MTV Movie Awards only just ended, but we can’t get over the epic onscreen performance/award presentation between the Black Keys and Johnny Depp. Not to mention the fact that they were introduced by rock gods Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith. When MTV News caught up with the Keys themselves, Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney, backstage after their performance, we asked them how they were feeling after coming offstage. “Super normal, that’s a normal moment for us,” Auerbach joked. “Yeah that’s our normal lives, hanging out with rock stars and movie stars, you know. It was actually a little boring.” “I was trying to hold back yawns,” added Carney. We then tried to get to the bottom of how the unexpected collaboration came to fruition, but even the Keys themselves seemed to have no idea. “I don’t know, I think MTV has a random computer generator,” Auerbach joked, with Carney chiming in, “It was supposed to be us and Regis Philbin, but we rejected it.” In all seriousness, the duo had nothing but praise for their guest star, particularly his preparation and skills on the guitar. “He’s a really good guitar player,” Carney said. “Yeah, no joke. He’s a really good guitar player,” Auerbach reiterated. So now that they’ve played with one of the biggest movie stars on the planet, what other movie stars will the Keys be collaborating with in the future? “Matthew McConaughey on bongos,” Carney joked. “We’re going to start a T. Rex cover band with Johnny Depp and Matthew McConaughey as Mickey Finn.” And now that they’ve finished their work for the night, will the guys be meeting up with Depp after the show? “We’re all going to go meet up at Se

Christian Bale Gets Emotional Seeing Heath Ledger In ‘Dark Knight’ Montage

Actor chokes up after seeing late ‘Dark Knight’ co-star Ledger in clip at 2012 MTV Movie Awards. By John Mitchell Christian Bale on stage at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Kevork Djansezian/ WireImage The cast of “The Dark Knight Rises” took the stage at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards to introduce an exclusive clip from the hotly anticipated summer blockbuster, but things took an unexpectedly emotional turn following a montage of director Christopher Nolan’s first two “Batman” films, which included scenes of the late Heath Ledger’s iconic performance as the Joker in “The Dark Knight.” At the clip’s conclusion, Christian Bale, flanked by his co-stars Gary Oldman and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, stepped up to the mic and said, “Wow, great to remember Heath at that moment. Wonderful to see Heath Ledger there.” The Oscar-winning actor then lowered his head and appeared to get choked up as the audience applauded for Ledger, who died in January 2008 at age 28 from an acute intoxication from the combined effects of several prescription medications. A few months after his passing, “The Dark Knight” arrived in theaters to critical acclaim and enormous box-office success. Ledger’s performance in “The Dark Knight” won the actor a posthumous Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. After stepping back from the mic for a moment of silence, the actor wiped his nose and soldiered on. “The final chapter of ‘The Dark Knight’ has been written,” he continued, before deferring to Gordon-Levitt, who brought Nolan onstage to introduce the exclusive new peek at “The Dark Knight Rises.” Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. 2012 MTV Movie Awards Glory Shared By ‘Hunger Games,’ ‘Twilight’

Plus: Johnny Depp and Emma Stone get career awards, and ‘Dark Knight Rises’ footage makes its debut. By Gil Kaufman Taylor Lautner accepts for “Breaking Dawn” at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images UNIVERSAL CITY, California — When you promise to fuel your third hosting go-round of the MTV Movie Awards with flatulence , where is there, really, to climb from there? Luckily, veteran MC Russell Brand had plenty of rope, taking the stage for the 2012 edition of the awards dressed like a punk-rock preacher and skewering friends and fellow celebrities on a night when three of the most iconic casts of the generation duked it out for supremacy. There were some wins for the new kids on the block from “The Hunger Games” and the O.G. “Harry Potter” cast, but the night belonged to the cool kids from “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1,” who snagged the Best Movie prize. “Thank you so much you guys,” said a humble Kristen Stewart, surrounded by much of her cast, before telling all those who think she’s elated to be finally stepping away from the iconic role of Bella Swan to just “shut up.” The serious business couldn’t get under way, though, until Brand had his way. Dinged in the past for piling on the Jonas Brothers, the tart-tongued English comedian turned the beat around and thanked the newest member of the paparazzi-scuffle fraternity to the fold: “Well done, Justin!” he said of young Bieber, before imagining what jail might be like for the boy wonder. Brand hit the hard stuff early, joking that if you think after recent events , “It’s hypocritical of me to joke about a celebrity beating up a paparazzi, wait till you hear what I have to say about short-lived celebrity marriages .” Ouch. And then it was time to get to business. It takes some serious screen mojo to beat out Ryan Gosling, Daniel Radcliffe and Channing Tatum, but “Hunger Games” star Josh Hutcherson battled his way into a win in the Best Male Performance category for the night’s first prize. “Oh my God,” he exclaimed when he got his hands on the hardware. “I’ve wanted to hold a Golden Popcorn since I was, like, 4 years old,” he said. It looked like it was going to be a “Hunger Games” night, and who better than “Twilight” star Stewart to announce a win for Katniss herself, Jennifer Lawrence, in the Best Female Performance category? “I want to thank Suzanne Collins for creating such an iconic, powerful character in Katniss Everdeen. It’s been an absolute honor to portray her,” an absent Lawrence said. “Horrible Bosses” star Jennifer Aniston
scooped up the Best Onscreen Dirtbag honor for a part of her acting portfolio she said she’s been waiting forever to unleash. The ladies were in the house early, as Shailene Woodley snagged Breakthrough Performance for her totally believable turn as a sullen, frustrated teen in “The Descendants.” No actor of this generation has brought more twisted, unforgettable characters to life than Johnny Depp. From Captain Jack Sparrow, to Ed Wood, Edward Scissorhands, Hunter S. Thompson and Willy Wonka, Johnny Depp is the reason the MTV Generation Award exists: to honor actors whose fearlessness is matched only by their coolness. He proved it by sitting in on rhythm guitar with the Black Keys for a rumble through “Gold on the Ceiling” and then jokingly comparing the Golden Popcorn honor to a “get out of the business” trophy. “All right, you’ve done too much and clearly based on the clips there’s obviously something wrong with me,” he said, guitar still dangling around his neck. Another career kudos went to Emma Stone, recipient of the first Trailblazer Award, for her wide comedic and dramatic range in everything from “Super Bad” to “Easy A,” “Crazy, Stupid, Love” and “The Help.” Admittedly weepy and armed with the dictionary definition of “trailblazer,” Stone said, “the only thing I can hope that something like this award inspires is originality.” Harry Potter, the “21 Jump Street” kid gang, the brutal “Warrior” beat down and the high-flying “Mission Impossible — Ghost Protocol,” all duked it out for Best Fight, but it was Lawrence, Huthcherson and their “Hunger Games” co-star, Alexander Ludwig, who were left standing when the popcorn was handed out. In a rare break with historic protocol, Best Kiss went to, so weird, an opposite -sex couple. You can’t knock the Romeo and Juliet of dysfunctional vampire love, Stewart and Robert Pattinson
, though. RPattz was elsewhere, so Kristen had to fly solo, calling out for her new “Snow White” beau, huntsman Chris Helmsworth, to kindly do the honors. Or at the very least Charlize Theron, Taylor Lautner, or anyone, really. “This really means a lot and thank you guys very much for giving us best kiss again,” she said. You can eat all the pie you want, battle as many mythical creatures as CGI artists can cook up, infiltrate any high school in the country or battle to the death, but if anyone thought they were going to hunt down the ensemble of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” in the Best Cast category, well, chill with the butter beer, will ya? Emma Watson accepted the award for her castmates, giving them all shout-outs, with special ones reserved for her two main men, Radcliffe and Rupert Grint. There’s a first time for everything and Elizabeth Banks broke the seal on the Best On-Screen Transformation category, for her role as brightly-hued, morally suspect Capitol “Hunger Games” chaperone Effie Trinket. The night also featured the enshrining of “Project X” into the instant cult classic movie category, honoring the party-out-of-control flick released earlier this year for ticking off all the degenerate prerequisites to join the likes “Animal House,” “The Hangover,” “Revenge of the Nerds,” “American Pie” and “Get Him to the Greek” in midnight movie heaven. The festivities opened with a majestic sugar pop sing-along with fun. to their megahit “We Are Young,” which had stars from Elizabeth Banks and Jennifer Aniston to Vanilla Ice and Channing Tatum bopping along. Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. See what just happened at the 21st annual MTV Movie Awards !
