Robert Pattinson Debuts Buzz Cut Accepting People’s Choice Award

‘Water for Elephants’ actor accepts Favorite Drama Movie award in button-up and jeans. By James Dinh Robert Pattinson wins Favorite Drama Movie at the 2012 People’s Choice Awards Photo: Getty Images Winning awards isn’t anything new to Robert Pattinson — especially for his role in the “Twilight” franchise. But fans saw the actor in a brand-new light at the 2012 People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday night (January 11) when he accepted an award for his film “Water for Elephants” and showed off his new buzz-cut hairdo. Pattinson appeared casually made his way to the stage in a simple button-up shirt and jeans to accept the Favorite Drama Movie award from Zachary Levi and “Twilight” co-star Ashley Greene. Even without his shaggy, long locks, Pattinson received a standing ovation. “Woah. Thank you very much. I don’t know why they asked me to accept it because it’s really a lot of other people as well,” he chuckled over an echo of screams from the audience. “When I was doing this movie, I was having so much fun doing it that I was saying to everyone I didn’t even care if anyone saw it. But now that people have seen it and they’re giving awards for it, I’m even more thankful for the whole experience, so thank you guys very much.” “Water for Elephants” beat out “The Adjustment Bureau,” “The Help,” “Limitless” and “Moneyball.” Now Pattinson’s love for “Elephants” isn’t exactly a secret. Shortly before it hit theaters last April, MTV News spoke with the box-office heartthrob about his appreciation for the film. “It felt like it was kind of magical in many ways, because we were out in the desert shooting,” he said. “There was nothing from the modern world around. It was a different experience for me. It wasn’t in a studio or anything.” What do you think of Robert’s buzz cut? Share your thoughts in the comments below! People’s Choice Awards Ruled By Demi Lovato, ‘Glee’ Stars

Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Robert Pattinson also took home awards. By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato at the 2012 People’s Choice Awards Photo: Getty Images With a touch of sass and Neil Patrick Harris, “The Big Bang Theory” star Kaley Cuoco opened the 2012 People’s Choice Awards and set the tone for a night of good times when the show went live from Los Angeles on Wednesday night (January 11), kicking off what is sure to be an action-packed awards season. The night was a mixed bag of awards for TV, music and movies, with Emma Stone, Demi Lovato and “Castle” as the big headlines of the night. The guys of “The Grey” kicked off the night by handing out the award for Favorite Movie Actress to Emma Stone, who also won Favorite Comedic Actress. “You will literally make me cry,” Stone told the room. “I moved to L.A. eight years ago this week. And it is so insane to be standing up here right now.” Favorite TV Comedy Actress went to “Glee” star Lea Michele, who beat out the night’s host. She dedicated her award to “my amazing cast, my glee club. All of you are my best friends. You guys are the best. And Ryan Murphy for bringing so many of my dreams and making them come true. This is for my fans, and ‘Glee’ would be nothing without you guys.” “The Hunger Games” stars Liam Hemsworth and Jennifer Lawrence handed the award for Favorite TV Drama Actress to “Vampire Diaries” star Nina Dobrev, who seemed grateful to her fans for helping her win an award she wasn’t originally nominated for. “Wow guys, this is so great. You guys wrote and wrote and continued to write in that they cave in and gave me a nomination that I won!” she said in her lacy emerald green dress. Josh Hutcherson and Vanessa Hudgens welcomed Favorite Pop Artist winner Demi Lovato to the stage. Adam Sandler displayed his signature and vintage charm in his acceptance speech for Favorite Comedic Movie Actor, thanking his teachers for helping him make his frequently critically panned box-offices smashes. Cory Monteith and Julianne Hough shared some banter before they handed Chloe Moretz the Favorite Movie Star Under 25 prize. “I can’t even imagine that I’m in the same category as the whole ‘Harry Potter’ cast and I won,” the 14-year-old said before thanking her fans. Robert Pattinson accepted the award for Best Drama Movie for the sweeping and romantic “Water For Elephants.” “Thank you very much,” Pattinson said. “When I was doing this movie, I had so much fun doing it.” “Once Upon A Time” leading ladies Ginnifer Goodwin and Jennifer Morrison gave the Favorite TV Drama Actor trophy to “Castle” star Nathan Fillion. The show also won for Best TV Crime Drama. “Vampire Diaries” hotties Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley showed their funny side when they presented “Bridesmaids” with the award for Favorite Comedy Movie. “We’d like to thank everyone who voted for ‘Bridesmaids.’ We’d especially like to thank Kristen Wiig,” Producer Judd Apatow said with the female-driven cast behind him, who then launched into a rendition of Wilson Phillips’ classic “Hold On.” “Haywire” star Ewan McGregor had the distinction of handing out the Favorite Movie Icon prize to Morgan Freeman. “When I found out I had been nominated… I decided to look up icon so here’s what I found,” Freeman said, going on to joke about the many definitions of the word, before he said he was “forever grateful for this honor.” “How I Met Your Mother” were the last to take the stage home when the cast accepted the award for Favorite Network TV Comedy. By the end of the night, stars ranging from Rihanna (Favorite R&B Artist) to the cast of “2 Broke Girls” to Lady Gaga (for her album Born This Way ) had nabbed a Waterford Crystal trophy. Taylor Kitsch Talks ‘All-Or-Nothing’ 2012

Roles in ‘Battleship,’ ‘John Carter’ and ‘Savages’ make the ‘Friday Night Lights’ alum one to watch in 2012. By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Taylor Kitsch in “John Carter” Photo: Disney Kids are growing up fast these days. One day, they’re playing fullback for the Dillon Panthers. Next thing you know, they’re saving Mars, selling weed and fighting aliens on a battleship. For Taylor Kitsch , 2012 is the year he grows up. A fan favorite from the “Friday Night Lights” television show, Kitsch makes the transition to full-on action star with “John Carter” and “Battleship.” If that weren’t enough, later in the year, he’ll star in “Savages,” a crime film helmed by one of Hollywood’s most formidable directors, Oliver Stone. And Kitsch knows exactly what he’s getting into: “It’s a pretty all-or-nothing year, right?” “All-or-nothing” is about as close as you can get to properly describing the year Kitsch has in front of him. Aside from starring in “FNL” creator Peter Berg’s next film, “Battleship,” Kitsch is smack-dab in the middle of Disney’s big-budget sci-fi epic “John Carter.” When it comes down to it, the fate of “John Carter” may rest firmly on Kitsch’s abs. “Of course, there’s the physicality,” said Kitsch, explaining his revealing wardrobe, comprised mostly of a glorified loincloth. “You’re pretty out there, not going to lie.” Kitsch insisted that the fashion choices never bothered him because it was true to the character. “It felt right, so it wasn’t such a big deal,” he said. Despite the film’s special effects and high budget, Kitsch said there is something much deeper to this story of a transported Civil War captain. “There’s kind of that stigma with big movies that it’s just action,” Kitsch said. “But with this, it’s really just the core of this guy and his journey of reinventing himself and finding himself again.” With such a full plate, Kitsch said he feels a whole mix of emotions, both good and bad. “I think it’s a bit of everything,” he said. “I’m excited. I’m nervous, but I’m also super proud of it, and I can’t wait to show. Especially from ‘John Carter’ to ‘Battleship’ to ‘Savages,’ that’s such a different landscape of a character.” It’s not just you, Taylor. We’re excited too. What are you waiting for? Your must-see movie needs your support. It’s time to show character, poise and heart. Vote for your picks now at MTV Movie Brawl 2012 ! Kelly Clarkson Talks About Reuniting With ‘SNL’ ‘Family’

Saturday will be the pop singer’s third time as the show’s musical guest. By Jim Cantiello Kelly Clarkson Photo: MTV News This weekend, Kelly Clarkson is making her third appearance on “Saturday Night Live” as the musical guest. But the bubbly singer insists that being a part of NBC’s iconic show will never feel old hat. “I’m a three-peat! I’ve made it,” Clarkson exclaimed to MTV News when we caught up with her at rehearsals. “It’s a legendary stage! I’ve been watching it since I was a kid. I think we all have.” More so than the enormity of playing Studio 8H, Clarkson said she digs the vibe of the cast and crew. “It’s a fun environment. You don’t feel like you’re working … This is like a family place. Everybody here is nice to people who aren’t famous. You know what I’m saying? They’re nice to my makeup artist, my hair guy … I hate people who are just nice to famous people. It bothers me. I want to kick ’em,” she chuckled. Clarkson still thinks about her first appearance on “SNL” in 2005, when she became the first “American Idol” winner to snag a musical guest spot. Even cooler, she got to flex her comedic muscles in a couple of skits with former cast members Amy Poehler and Horatio Sanz. “I remember I was so excited. First of all, Horatio? He’s hard to do skits with because you laugh ’cause he laughs all the time at [himself]. So you’re laughing ’cause he’s laughing, and I’m trying to keep a straight face. I had so much fun.” But this go-around, Clarkson’s too busy to participate in any sketches, even though the politically charged “SNL” could write comedy gold for Clarkson, who recently found herself in the middle of the presidential race when she casually tweeted about digging Ron Paul’s campaign . The singer’s always down to poke fun at herself and be goofy, but alas, tour rehearsals are top priority. “We’re literally flying in and out [of New York]. Charles Barkley’s hosting, so he’s doing all the skits.” Kelly fans can still look forward to two high-energy performances. During Saturday night’s show, Clarkson and her band will rock her #1 single, “Mr. Know It All,” as well as her latest hit, “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You).” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Kelly Clarkson Related Artists Kelly Clarkson

Armed Robber Robs Weave Shop “B_tch, My Girl Needs Some New Extensions… Which Ones Are The Best!?” [Video]

An employee of Main Beauty Supply in Dallas was caught off guard when a man robbing the store demanded hair extensions. Benitra Jackson said she was about to close for the night when a man wearing a mask burst into the store and, pointing a gun, demanded her and her manager to the floor. “He was just telling us to get down or he’ll shoot,” Jackson said. In surveillance video you can see the robber forcing the manager to the floor first, then turning on Jackson. “And then he threw me on the floor and told me to put the money in the bag. So I just threw the money in the bag then laid back down on the floor,” she said. Jackson said she gave the robber all of the money in the register, but he wanted more. “He was just saying ‘the change too,’ cause he had kids,” she said. After that, the robber had an even more unusual request — hair extensions. According to a police reporter, Jackson told officers the man said, “My b**** needs some hair extensions, which are the best ones?” “I was like, really?” said Jackson. “I wanted to laugh, but something was going on and I was in shock. So I was like why are you asking me about the most expensive hair extensions? So I just grabbed any kind for him.” Satisfied with the money — and the hair — the robber left. Jackson said she’s thankful everyone’s okay, but hopes to see the robber caught. When it comes to the hair extensions, Jackson is hoping for something else. “Well, I hope she doesn’t like them,” Jackson chuckled.

Katy Perry: What’s Next After Russell Brand?

Pop star has plenty to keep her busy, between her music and budding acting career. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry Photo: Getty Images Katy Perry is kicking off 2012 a single girl. Over the holiday weekend, news broke that Russell Brand had filed for divorce after a year of marriage with the pop star. And while Perry has remained low-key since the split, she is amping up for what is sure to be another busy year. Perry hasn’t been spotted in public since Friday’s breakup announcement, but she did make some non-relationship-related headlines Tuesday (January 3) when a demo version of the Jessie James track “Bullet” hit the Net; Perry co-wrote the sassy track for the singer’s 2009 album. The singer has two shows later this month — one scheduled for January 19 in Jakarta, Indonesia, and another January 22 in the Philippines — as part of her California Dreams Tour. Come February, Perry is set to appear at the Grammys, where she is up for two awards, including Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for “Firework.” It’s been nearly two years since Perry’s megahit Teenage Dream album dropped. While no word has come down about new music from the star, when MTV News spoke to producer Tricky Stewart , he hinted that Perry was working on a new release of some older material, including a track called “Dressing Up.” “Katy and I went into [the studio] just to address some issues with records that we had done in the past that didn’t end up going on Teenage Dream, ” he told MTV News about the top-secret project. “So we are in the process of just listening and freshening up things and getting ready for something special she has going on.” Perry hasn’t announced plans to tackle any more acting roles, but in 2011, she made fans laugh on the big screen as the voice of Smurfette in “The Smurfs” and as the host of “Saturday Night Live” in December, teasing a possible second career in film and TV. Since the split made headlines, Perry has not addressed the divorce . However, Brand said in a statement, “Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I will always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends.” Related Photos Lovebirds: Katy Perry And Russell Brand Related Artists Katy Perry
