Grammy winners will follow up the tour with a new album before year’s end. By Joel Hanek Kings of Leon’s Caleb Folliwell Photo: Simone Joyner/Getty Images Kings of Leon are heading out on the road in continuing support of their massive 2008 release, Only by Night. The Followill boys will be heading across the country from June to late September, including headlining spots at the 2010 Bonnaroo festival and a quick trip across the pond for the V Festival in the U.K. on August 21 and 22. If news of a tour isn’t enough to please fans, the band also has a new album in the works for later this year. “We’re going to start writing and rehearsing new stuff, and then we’ll go in the studio and see what happens,” bassist Matthew Followill told MTV News at this year’s Grammy Awards . Guitarist Jared Followill clarified that the album will most likely see a September or October release date. This has been a good year for the Kings of Leon. Not only has their fourth studio album, Only by Night, garnered platinum status, but the quartet went back to their native Nashville as Grammy winners for the second consecutive year in a row, picking up trophies for Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song and Record of the Year. While opening acts have not been announced as of press time, Kings of Leon have posted the tour dates on their official Web site :

Jessica Simpson’s The Price of Beauty: Redefining Awful

Jessica Simpson’s career has hit a new low with The Price of Beauty , which premiered last night, and that is really saying something considering recent years. The show, which chronicles Simpson and BFFs CaCee Cobb and Ken Paves traveling around learning what people consider beautiful, was worse than expected. A lot worse. And again, that’s saying something! What resulted is boring at best, and embarrassing at worst, a pathetic display of rude Americans uncomfortable in foreign cultures and making tasteless jokes. When Jessica Simpson burst out laughing while meditating with monks in a Buddhist temple, that about sums it up. Bad TV has pretty much been redefined. This line was also indicative of the night: “I thought Thai massages had happy endings. I’m wondering where mine is.” Yep, Jess apparently wants a hand job. That’s half an hour of our lives we’ll never get back. Later, they meet the host of Thailand’s Next Top Model and visit an outdoor market where he insists they sample fried bugs. The Price of Beauty meets Survivor . Then it was time for the “serious” portion of the program. Jessica, Ken and CaCee meet young women who lost all their facial skin when creams burned it off. In Thai culture, lighter skin is considered a sign that you aren’t lower-class. Another tribe wraps rings around their necks to elongate them, signifying wealth. There was probably a point to this in there somewhere, but if so, it’s lost by the fact this show is hosted by Sexual Napalm, a.k.a. Jessica freaking Simpson. The fact that she hosts a show about beauty standards around the world is absurd in itself, given what a shill she is for so many superficial cosmetic products. Let’s be clear, Jessica Simpson is no Heidi Montag . At the same time, is a girl famous only for looking like a stereotypical blonde pinup a positive role model? Next thing you know, Tiger Woods will host The Price of Marriage .

‘American Idol’ Judge Kara DioGuardi Says Her First Season ‘Sucked’

‘It was freshman year. … I’d never been on television,’ DioGuardi told Jay Leno on ‘The Tonight Show.’ By Eric Ditzian Kara DioGuardi Photo: Alberto E. Rodriguez/ Getty Images On Monday night, the night before “American Idol” debuts its top 12 contestants , Kara DioGuardi stopped by Jay Leno’s “Tonight Show” couch to talk all things season nine. The “Idol” judge dished on her tableside flirtation with Simon Cowell, defended the performance of Ellen DeGeneres and admitted that her nerves got in the way of her commentary last season. ‘American Idol’ Season 8 Memorable Moments “It was freshman year,” DioGuardi explained about her first year behind the judges’ table. “It sucked. I’d never been on television. The 30-second sound bite — I’m Italian, that’s impossible! To shut up is difficult!” This year, she’s finally started to have fun on “Idol.” From a viewer’s perspective, there’s no doubting DioGuardi has become more comfortable on camera and has been able to deliver more insightful criticism . “I think this year, it’s more about the contestants because I’m not feeling as nervous, so I can zero in on them and what they’re feeling and what they’re going through,” she said. “It’s just a different experience and it feels way better.” Leno also made a point of questioning the ongoing coziness between Kara and Simon. The two judges seemed to be snuggling up to each other over the last few weeks — something that even Ryan Seacrest addressed at one point. DioGuardi is a newlywed, while Cowell recently got engaged . So what’s going on between the duo? “I’m trying to figure it out,” DioGuardi said with a laugh. “I don’t know if it’s because he’s got a girlfriend and he’s got separation anxiety and he needs to lean into me.” Before the segment wrapped up, DioGuardi came to the defense of DeGeneres, who has come under criticism for delivering kind words rather than accurate, constructive critiques from behind the judges’ table. Kara maintained that Ellen is “doing a great job.” “It’s scary,” she added. “She’s getting used to that. Sometimes it’s bad news and it ain’t fun to deliver.” Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions. The Stooges, ABBA Headline Eclectic Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Ceremony

Genesis, Jimmy Cliff, the Hollies also inducted in show featuring Phish, Green Day and more. By James Montgomery The Stooges’ Iggy Pop performs with Greenday’s Billie Joe Armstrong at the 25th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony Photo: Michael Loccisano/ Getty Images NEW YORK — It opened with a Phish show, nearly exploded into a (very well-heeled) proto-punk riot, got giddy on a fix of sunshiny Swedish pop, and finally wrapped up with a ’50’s-tinged tribute. It was the 25th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, back in NYC after a one-year sojourn in Cleveland (where the titular hall actually exists). And while it may have been lacking the star power of previous years’ ceremonies — Eminem and Metallica in 2009 , Madonna and Justin Timberlake in ’08 — it certainly showcased the breadth and depth of this thing we call rock music. 2010 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Ceremony ABBA, Genesis, the Stooges, Jimmy Cliff and the Hollies were the performers that headlined the 2010 class, inducted into the hall by the likes of the Bee Gees’ Barry and Robin Gibb and Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong. Variety was the theme of the night, expressed in the wide range of performances and the revered tones of the inductors, which ranged from genuinely geeky (Phish’s Trey Anastasio, who inducted Genesis and spoke at length about the group’s “seven-note guitar lines” and the technical prowess of their 1973 album Selling England by the Pound ) to gleefully amped (Armstrong swore a whole lot as he inducted the Stooges). The show began with Phish running through Genesis’s proggy “Watchers of the Sky,” then Phil Collins, Tony Banks, Steve Hackett and Mike Rutherford took the stage to accept their award, thanking Anastasio for his “really convincing argument” about the oft-derided band’s legacy. Original singer Peter Gabriel wasn’t there because he was “rehearsing for an orchestral tour,” according to Collins. Phish then played a second Genesis tune, “No Reply at All.” Up next were the Stooges, long denied a slot in the hall despite their obvious influences on everything from punk to metal, and they more than made up for lost time. First, Armstrong — who was “very excited and nervous as hell” to be inducting them — strode to the podium and launched into a heartfelt speech that praised the band’s commitment to “blood and guts, sex and drugs … peanut butter and poetry.” The Green Day frontman rattled off basically every band the Stooges had ever influenced, a list that included Nirvana, Siouxsie and the Banshees, the Queens of the Stone Age “and my f—ing band too.” “It is my honor to induct into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame — and it’s about f—ing time — the Stooges!” Armstrong exclaimed. Stooge main man Iggy Pop strutted onto the stage and — still wearing a shirt — gave the tuxedoed crowd a double middle-finger salute, followed by a genuinely touching speech that mentioned late members Dave Alexander and Ron Asheton , shouted out “all the poor people who actually started rock and roll” and concluded with a thanks to all his fans for giving the band “a second act,” getting choked up as he said it. Pop turned the mic over to fellow Stooges James Williamson and Ron’s brother Scott and began unbuttoning his white dress shirt as they spoke. He then stormed off to the stage, and, aided by bassist Mike Watt and tenor sax skronker Steve Mackay, ripped through a pair of the Stooges’ burners — “Search and Destroy” and “I Wanna Be Your Dog” — the latter of which saw Iggy prowl the front row of the audience, belt out the chorus under the watchful gaze of Dr. Oz (for real), then invite anyone and everyone onstage. Green Day and members of Pearl Jam gleefully obliged, as did a few fairly radical men and women in their formal wear. Back in the press room, Iggy explained his impromptu invasion thusly: “Well, you can’t really stage-dive in a place like this.” Legendary record exec David Geffen and British rock act the Hollies were inducted next, followed by Reggae legend Jimmy Cliff (who was lovingly introduced by Wyclef Jean) and then, in perhaps the night’s most anticipated moment, globally revered Swedish pop quartet ABBA, who hadn’t performed together in public in nearly 25 years. Unfortunately, only half of the group’s members — Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Benny Andersson (who were married once upon a time) — showed up to accept their trophies from the Gibbs. They seemed touched by the honor, and Andersson took to the piano to perform one of the group’s most masterful hits, “The Winner Takes It All,” with country star Faith Hill on vocals. There was a tribute to the night’s honored songwriters — a list that included luminaries like Otis Blackwell and Jesse Stone (who wrote songs made famous by the likes of Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis) — featuring Rob Thomas, Ronnie Spector, Eric Burdon, Chris Isaak, Peter Wolf and Fefe Dobson, who rolled through the hits and then closed the show with a version of Stone’s “Shake, Rattle and Roll.” By this point, the telecast was nearly four hours long, and the audience — though weary — cheered mightily. It was worth the wait. Variety takes time, after all. Related Photos 2010 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Ceremony Related Artists Iggy Pop & The Stooges ABBA Green Day

Nicki Minaj, Ludacris, Estelle, More Take Stage At ‘Rip The Runway’

Soulja Boy Tell’em, Trina and more perform on the BET show, airing Monday. By Jayson Rodriguez Nicki Minaj at BET’s “Rip the Runway” Photo: George Napolitano/ Getty Images Nicki Minaj is hip-hop’s leading lady at the moment and the Young Money rapper proved she’s adept at handling that spotlight during her turn as co-host of BET’s “Rip the Runway.” The femcee was joined by The Game’s Pooch Hall, and delivered her trademark sass both in rhyme and in jokes. “Pooch, you haven’t even complimented me on my shoes yet,” Nicki said during the opening minutes, teasing the actor as the pair introduced the show, set to air March 15 on BET and Centric. The Queens lyricist doubled as a performer also, joining Ludacris onstage for his hit “My Chick Bad.” “My chick bad, tell me if you seen her,” Luda rapped. “She always bring the racket like Venus and Serena.” Minaj stormed onstage for the third verse, much to the delight of her fans — there were plenty of Barbiez on board — in a snakeskin bodysuit and pink wig. “Trash talk to them then I put them in a Hefty,” she rhymed. “Running down the court, I’m dunking on them Lisa Leslie.” Along with the “Rip the Runway” performances, new designers’ spring and summer lines were presented and showcased throughout the broadcast. BET’s “106 & Park” co-host Rocsi Diaz, Sean John model Miguel Perdomo and artist Amanda Diva were among those strutting down the catwalk. Upstart MC B.o.B. a.k.a. Bobby Ray performed his first single, “Nothin’ on You,” as the Tennille White Chicago line was showcased. Trina was partnered with Haute Couture during her performance and newcomer Roscoe Dash and Soulja Boy Tell’em had the rowdiest performance of the night, hands down, with “All the Way Turnt Up.” The song was paired with sporty clothing line Prot

Jay-Z Performs For Stevie Wonder, Other Stars In Atlantic City

MC enjoys a late dinner with Wonder, Robin Thicke after show, then catches Manny Pacquiao/ Joshua Clottey boxing match. By Shaheem Reid Jay-Z performs in Atlantic City on Saturday Photo: Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa Jay-Z doesn’t just bring out the stars out onstage — earlier this month at New York’s Madison Square Garden , for example, Shaquille O’Neal, LeBron James, Diddy, Rick Ross and Gwyneth Paltrow were among the spectators taking in his BP3 show (and while Lil Wayne appeared onstage during Young Jeezy’s opening set , he probably caught some of Jigga’s show from backstage). And for Jay’s sold-out Saturday night show at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Stevie Wonder, Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps, Fantasia, Adrienne Bailon, Robin Thicke and two of the “Real Housewives of New Jersey,” Teresa Giudice and Jacqueline Laurita, were in the audience. The show was a tough one for Memphis Bleek, who always performs with Jay. Bleek’s friend and artist G Baby died early Saturday morning after reportedly being shot in New York. Bleek tweeted about G Baby over the weekend, saying, “I’m in a mood I can’t explain. I lost a real n—a 2day. R.I.P. to my n—a G Baby who was like a bro to me!! G. Baby …” Memph stayed strong through the show and helped Jay pull off another successful performance, as they brought the crowd to its feet with classics like “Big Pimpin’ ” and new hits like “Run This Town.” Jay celebrated after the show at the Old Homestead restaurant in the Borgata, where he had a late dinner with Wonder and Thicke, a rep for the venue told MTV News. Jay — being the avid sports fan he is — took in the Manny Pacquiao/ Joshua Clottey boxing match on one of the big screen TVs. Jay references the pugilist from the Philippines on Blueprint 3 ‘s “Thank You,” saying “On the tube, I’m just watching Pacquio box ’em up.” After the 12-round fight, Thicke went to Borgata’s club mur.mur, where Samantha Ronson had spun earlier in the night. Sam’s sister Charlotte Ronson, Angela from “Jersey Shore” and Phelps were among the partygoers. Meanwhile, Jay hit the blackjack tables accompanied by Beyonc
