Kris Allen, Adam Lambert And Allison Iraheta Reunite Onstage In NYC

After individual sets, the ‘American Idol’ trifecta come together for a cover of Gnarls Barkley’s ‘Crazy.’ By Jim Cantiello Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta and Kris Allen (file) Photo: MTV News NEW YORK — The “American Idol” stars aligned Friday night (February 12), as Allison Iraheta, Adam Lambert and Kris Allen took the stage for an exclusive live event. Ryan Seacrest’s “Rock My Town” concert brought out hundreds of lucky ticket winners, all of whom braved the cold for hours to make sure they got the best possible spot in the intimate Highline Ballroom. Performing in the order in which they were eliminated during the eighth season of “Idol,” fiery-haired Allison Iraheta rocked out first in a dizzying set that showed off her raspy pipes and her criminally overlooked pop/rock songs. Iraheta — in two punky pigtails and a black-and-white rocker-chic dress — and her enthusiastic four-piece band ripped through fan favorites like “Holiday,” single “Friday I’ll Be Over U,” show-opener “Don’t Waste the Pretty” and “Robot Love” with plucky aplomb. (The latter song even featured Iraheta busting out a quick robot dance move, much to the delight of the audience, made up of teenagers, their parents and a host of baby boomers with glitter face-paint, presumably there for Mr. Lambert.) Iraheta’s set hit a few bumpy patches — including some technical hiccups with a bum mic — but she made up for it with her rough-around-the-edges, self-deprecating charm. After flubbing a few lines in the title track of her album, “Just Like You,” she offered a silly mea culpa to the adoring crowd. “I’m sorry for being an idiot. Let’s see if I can get this next one right.” (She did. “Trouble Is,” an achingly tender ballad, was a set highlight.) Later, on another ballad, “Scars,” Iraheta stopped her band when she realized she began in the wrong key. During take two, Allison changed the lyrics to “Don’t turn away, I won’t go off key this time.” All was forgiven by her set closer, a stompy fuzz-rock cover of Roberta Flack’s “Killing Me Softly” that was so strong, it’s easy to imagine Iraheta making it to last year’s finale had she had the chance to sing it on “Idol.” It’s a shame Allison’s self-confidence was on the fritz as she exited. “Sorry about sucking tonight,” she sighed. (For the record, she did not suck.) Self-confidence wasn’t a problem for Adam Lambert , who sported more glam and glitter in his hair than all of Las Vegas combined. During the explosive 11-song set, he owned the stage with his blend of raw sexuality, campy theatrics and, most importantly, vocal agility. Lambert effortlessly glided through octave-jumping, voice-testing songs like “Music Again,” “Strut” and the heart-stopping ballad “Soaked,” originally a Muse demo. Adam easily whipped the crowd into a frenzy with his Mick Jagger-meets-Alice Cooper-meets-Elvis Presley presence, but Lambert quickly stopped his set as soon as he noticed a fan in front had passed out from all the excitement. Once the situation had been resolved and the sick woman got some water, Adam suggested she take a seat away from the stage. “You can rock out from back there,” he politely suggested, before busting out “Sure Fire Winners,” which appropriately features the line “Give ’em something to pass out about.” Any “Idol” fans who expected Lambert to put out an album of hard-rock songs should start saving their cash for when Adam goes on tour later this year. Songs like “If I Had You,” “For Your Entertainment” and the Lady Gaga-penned “Fever,” which each have a dance/pop vibe on his RCA/ 19 Recordings debut, were given a rough, badass makeover thanks to his backing band. Lambert and his crew were just as effective on quieter tunes too. Current single “Whataya Want From Me” and the Ryan Tedder collaboration “Sleepwalker” were both high points for the passionate singer. But it was the one-two punch of his last two songs that really kicked the set to new heights. First, Lambert busted out the rare bonus track “Down the Rabbit Hole,” and even though not everyone knew the song, Adam had the entire crowd in the palm of his spiky-gloved hands thanks to his electrifying performance, complete with knee-falling, ear-monitor tossing and plenty of cozying up to his bassist, TommyJoe Ratliff (who your parents probably remember as the dude Lambert kissed on the American Music Awards ). “I got a little carried away,” he meekly said. Lambert then busted out his iconic cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love,” and the crowd erupted. It was a genius set-ender. Not only did it allow for his talented band to get some arena-ready rock solos, but the risqu

Real Housewives of Orange County: With Flowers In Our Hair

Housewives! Everywhere you look there are Housewives. Under the bed, skittering around in the walls, creeping and creaking under the stairs. And worst of all, they’re migrating , they’re expanding. Last night the Orange County wraiths headed North. No, not to the frozen wilds of Nunavut, where they would have enough space and crabby tundra grass to graze for years unmolested. No sadly the Housewives don’t know much of Canada — they think it’s simply the town where ginger ale is harvested and dried (“Wait… but how does it get wet again?”) — so they shan’t be heading across the border anytime soon. Rather the girls hopped aboard a Virgin America (oh were America actually virgin — innocent and untouched, still young and dreamy, instead of the worked-over mess of a nearing-middle-aged thing it is now, tired and fat and smoky, pleasuring itself with grim abandon) aeroplane flight and went up up up to San Francisco , descended upon California’s taut, brown midsection like the creeping fog. But before we get to that, we have to go back. Down the highway called five, all the way to the curdled grundle between Los Angeles and San Diego (why must every city in California have two names?). This is a magical place called Orange County, where these hissing shebeasts live. Where they spend their days bobbing for limes in giant vats of sticky-sour booze potions. Where they are often tangled up and snared in plastic-slatted chaise lounges, left to lie awkward and stranded on the patio, calling plaintively for their husbands. It is a place where they are losing their houses. Mostly I am speaking of poor Lynne. Old Lynne. Stuck, muddled Lynne. Poor stinkhat Lynne, just sittin’ there all frustrated, diggin’ at the dirt with a stick, sayin’ “Aw shucks,” and kickin’ at pebbles. Squinting her eyes and covering her brow with her hand and looking out over the hilly expanse and just feelin’ sorta small and swallowed-up, just tryin’ to dimly comprehend all the big, groaning mysteries that exist in this rotten old world. You see, Lynne has become something of a hobo. At the thrilling conclusion of last week’s potboiler episode, a mean old Money Man came stomping up to Castle Greylynne and issued her sleepy daughter an eviction notice. Yes, eviction. The sun looked hard and burnished in the sky, like the bottom of a tin can, and everyone gasped and the curtain fell. Act Two began last night, curtain up and lights on Lynne, standing like a little dustbowl bride at the edge of the stage, wringing her hands in worry. How had this happened? How could her beautiful husband not tell her that they were in danger of losing their rental house? It was all so confusing. Lynne decided to confront her husband in a public park, because that is where Lynne feels most comfortable, near the ducks and the grasshoppers, her aunts and uncles tweeting in their nests in the trees, her cousins blind and wriggling through the earth. And one should always feel comfortable when talking about Money, all-important evil Money. Lynne wanted answers, mister. Give ’em here, buster brown. Her husband shrugged his shoulders and said “I didn’t pay a deposit.” He really seemed to have thought that he could keep the whole money issue from Lynne, that she’d just trudge on in her oblivious way like always and he’d work his backstage magic and all would be well. But that’s not the way this cookie crumbled, and now they’ve got a big old horking stupid smelly mess on their hands. But enough about their daughter. She’s not the focus (although, “I’m so hungoverrrrr, is this a dream?” did not indicate that good things are going on in her life). The house is. Hubby said he missed the deposit payment and that’s why the Kool-Aid man burst through the wall and handed Drunky the walking papers. But doesn’t that seem a little suspicious? I mean, do you really get evicted from your rental house after missing one payment? I don’t know. If yes, then it must be a really important payment, not just like a late rent or something. I dunno. The whole thing seems a little fishy. The whole thing seemed a lot befuddling to Lynne. There in the park she sputtered and moaned and demanded to know just what the sam hill was going on and hubby tried to explain it to her in as small of words as he could, but she still wasn’t getting it. So finally he took out a piece of paper and a crayon and drew a little picture of a house, square base and traingle top, a little pig’s tail curlicue of smoke coming from the upended top hat chimney. Lynne smiled. She looked at her husband and then back and the paper and quietly said “House.” Hubby nodded and said “Yes,” pointing to the picture. “House.” Lynne said it again, this time a little more sure. “House.” Hubby nodded his head. “Yes, yes. Good, good.” He then pointed to the house and then shook his head. He did it again. And again. And again. Finally Lynne looked in his eyes and he saw her face crumble and she said “No… house?” Hubby nodded his head sadly. “No house. No money, no house.” Lynne let out a whimper that turned into a wail. She was so confused. Hubby felt bad for her, but he was mad because Lynne’s is a kind of willful confusion. She just liked to spend and spend and let him deal with the money and if she never heard about their financial woes, then they weren’t really real. Sometimes if she’s being chased by neighborhood dogs (which happens often) she’ll hide behind a street sign and press her face up against the pole and figure that if she can’t see the dog, it can’t see her. The nurses who do the stitches at the hospital call her Cujo on account of all the dog bites. So this is a mess. A total shitfuck of a mess. Lynne was just furious at her husband for not telling her about their money problems when she had expressly asked him to not tell her about their money problems. She shook her head and shuddered her body and said “Nunh unh, ohhhh no. Nunh unh. I need to… I’m not going to get over this. Whatever, I’m over it.” Did you catch that there at the end? Lynne really said that last night. She will never get over it. Whatever, she’s over it. This woman can’t speak. This woman is so touched in the head — painkillers? my sister thinks maybe she dropped too much acid in her wayward youth — that she doesn’t know what she’s saying. Lynne says gobbledygook and then contradicts her own gobbledygook. As a final kiss-off before storming right into the flock of geese that lives in the park (and are Lynne’s nieces and nephews), she turned to her husband and icily said “Chicken bone finger dance, husband. Chicken bone. Finger dance.” She looked satisfied and Hubby just shrugged his shoulders and turned out his pockets and a little moth flew out and flitted around and somewhere, far off in the distance, a lone accordion began to play, an ancient and mournful gypsy hymn. Hubby sighed. The sun twirled and burned. Let’s move on. Enough about Lynne. ALEXIS. We’re always loving to talk about Alexis. She’s the one who goes by the street handle of Funbags Jackson, and she is a very lovely and pious person who everyone loves and is beautiful. This week she and Gretchen decided to go for drinks so they could be perky and blonde together and discuss the other Wives. There’s so much to be discussed! About how Vicki has a cobweb face and smells bad. About how teacher says that every time Tamra farts an angel dies. About whether they should ever have taken that scarecrow named Lynne to that off-brand Mexican Wizard of Oz in the first place, because the pig’s brain he gave her isn’t really doing any good (“We should have known then. I mean who follows The Corrugated Tin Road?”). These are all important matters, but none more important than alcomohol. Sweet, sweet luscious booze. Giver of fun and good times, deliverer of evil and joy, the only friend you’ll ever need and the best enemy you’ll ever have. The girls started talking about the Mai Tais at the Oceanside Grille or whatever Grille they were at (they are always at Grilles, everyone is always at a Grille. They should add the world Grille to everything to make it sound fancier. “Have you had the roast beef at Arby’s Grille? I literally wrote home about it. Sat down and wrote a letter to my parents. Who are dead. … I’m so very sad, Jill. I’m so very sad. But that roast beef!”). Both Gretchen and Tuggles agreed that the Mai Tais are delish, but that’s not what they ordered. Do you know what these two brilliant Bravo bitches done ordered? Skinngirl Margaritas. Like what’s from that other show that Bravo done air. Two iterations of Housewives converged and it was surprising and sad and wonderful and I’m pretty sure that Jerry O’Connell and Sallah from Indiana Jones finally found their home dimension. Oh, hey! Speaking of San Francisco! (The show Sliders that I just referenced took place in San Francisco, so now you don’t have to go back in time and spend your Friday nights watching mid-’90s Fox sci-fi programming.) The gals always like to have fun activities arranged for them by the producers, and this one was a biggun! They were getting in that horseless air carriage and zooming out of Orange County! This is a big deal. One Housewife will often take a little trip — to one of the Turks or the Caicos, they can never decide which, or to Italy (and, actually, both of those were lil’ traveler Vicki) — but all together? Oh man must the rest of Orange County have breathed a huge sigh of relief. Just iinnnnnnnnn and outttttttt. The whole region pulsating with a big satisfied breath. From space it looked like a volcano or an earthquake, but really it was just beautiful joy borne on the back of the wind. The Housewives were gone, if only for a weekend. Though they’re not gone yet! First some things must be attended to. Vicki’s daughter was having a health scare and there’s nothing funny to say about that so I’m not going to say much, other than that Vicki was just like such a crazy monsterperson when the girl told her. She was like “Oh… I’ve got a bunch of clients coming in…” when the girl gave her the date of her biopsy. Vicki! Vicki!!!!!!! What’re you doing, hon? Why are you doing this? You don’t say that. You know what you also don’t say to someone who is worried they might have cancer? You don’t say “Don’t make me cry.” You don’t make the conversation about you not crying. You just don’t. But Vicki and all of these other women are incapable of talking about anything but themselves, especially when those beautiful cameras are whirring in their faces and that blessed furry boom mic is swinging low like a tufted angelic Tribble. Then it is really hard to not talk alllllll about your glorious self and how you don’t want to cry! So: Fuck off, Vicki. That’s that. Also happening vis a vis trip preparation is that Bulbous Baggins has to get permission from Earth Jesus, who is her husband Jim. Space Jesus is higher on the religio-scale than Jim, but Space Jesus has been in a meeting in space for two thousand years now, so Earth Jesus Jim will have to suffice. And he does. So Lumps slowly backed into his office on all fours, as she’s been instructed to do, carrying a silver tray of sweet meats and nudie mags on her back. Jim nodded lazily. “Earth Jesus is… pleased. He will speak to you. Rise.” Tits stood and bowed her head. “Oh thank you, Earth Jesus. Thank you so much. I do hope you’ll put in a good word with Space Jesus for me.” Jim shook his leathery meat-sack of a head. “Don’t worry your pretty empty walnut head about Space Jesus. What is it you want?” And so Jiggles told him all about this wonderful city in the clouds called Sands Francesco and how you can do all sorts of things like ride a trolley cart over the Golden Arches bridge and see the famous confirmed bachelors that roam the Castor and you can go to the top of Telephone Hill and from there you can stare down at all the people who speak Latin that live in Mission Impossible. Oh, Sam Flamingo, you wonderful city. Earth Jesus fondled his considerable jowls and heaved his gut around the room several times, which is what he does when he’s pondering letting the womancreature out of the house. “Wellllllll,” he bellowed, gravy tumbling out of every orifice. “I suppose you can go unattended.” He then unleashed a great belch and macaroni and cheese went spraying all over Alexis’ face and she said “Oh thank you Earth Jesus! Thank you!!!” And then Earth Jesus coughed and an entire honey-glazed ham popped out and he sneezed and it was milkshakes and Earth Jesus bellowed once more, “Now leave me be!!! It’s time for my Engorgening!!!” Sacks dutifully backed out of the room, macaroni and cheese dripping off her hair and face, weeping joyfully that Earth Jesus was such a kind god/husband. So wasn’t that nice? Even though Jim doesn’t know what to do with the kids and can’t be bothered to even learn their names and Alexis is a filthy womancreature who shouldn’t go anywhere unattended lest some other male belly up to her and claim her as his, he let her go on her fancy trip for girls. Marriage is all about compromise, guys. We can all learn something from them. Zooommmm! Whoooooosh! Hiiiiiiiiiiiii. That was the sound of the plane taking off and then that last one was the gay flight attendant. Ha. “Gay flight attendant” is redundant. But whatever! The girls are in the plane and they are flying so fast up to San Francisco and the whole city shudders and cowers in anticipation. Whiiiiiiiiiiiiiine! Broooooommmmmmm! Byeeeeeeeeee. That was the wheels coming down and then the plane landing and then the gay flight attendant wishing them a happy trip. On the plane mostly Vicki and Tamra jibber-jabbered about things and Lynne sat alone thinking about cheese and saying that she needed a break from Hubby and all this money stuff. Alexis was just shocked that this metal beast could fly without Earth Jesus, who had always told her that he was the one making the plane fly, not the pilot or any human mechanics. (Jim had forgotten this little detail. When he remembered it was too late, she was already gone, and he slapped his forehead with his hand a bratwurst shot out of his ear.) San Francisco glittered and shone like heaven and the girls whizzed by it all in their limo. There was the Embarcadero edging the water like a stern smile. The wealthy brown bulge of Bernal Hill. People standing at Haight and Ashbury, looking intensely at the air, trying to see something that disappeared long ago. It was strange to think of their crooked, knobby wraiths in a city like San Francisco — a storied and cold place, all wind and jaunty history. They stick out like orange thumbtacks and you realize that they can never go anywhere. There is no place in the world for them but the deep, deep burrow they’ve dug. They’re sad and out of place. They embarrass themselves. Oh how they embarrass themselves! After a little bit of sightseeing, and little more shopping (Lynne bought something! Lynne bought something that was very expensive and I thought about her two daughters and that sad gummy Hubby of hers back “home,” sitting on the curb in their tattered clothes trying in vain to send hobo mind-signals to their cousin on the East Coast, the McTattershanty girl), it was time for a big fancy five-star dinner. Ohhhhh. With delicious and interesting food that you will try even if you don’t really like the thing on principle because it ought to be very well-prepared and the best example of its kind, you know? Like just try the damn thing. Just try it. That’s not a lot to ask of someone who’s eating a free five-star dinner is it? Well apparently it is. Apparently it is. The first part of the dinner involved Lynn drawing pictograms and doing a strange lyrical dance in order to tell the girls that she was a hobo. They were all shocked, except not shocked at all, and they bobbed their heads up and down and slurped their drinks and then Brrrrrringggggggg, Alexis’ phone went off. It was Earth Jesus! He was just calling to say hi, to make sure she wasn’t currently stuffed under some sweaty man with a gut and a bank account, to tell her that the kids were all either dead or on fire. Alexis smiled as mysterious Hollandaise came burbling out of the phone. The other girls were all “OK, ‘evs. He called. No big.” But then Brinnnnggggggg. And Briiiiingggggg again! Earth Jesus is so insecure ! What a sad twit. What sad twits everyone is. In one of those short, mid-commercial mini segments they showed Jim at home in the backyard with the kids and a nanny. The nanny was just looking frustrated while Jim was “playing” with the kids. He was trying to shove something stubby and pink into some sort of hole and we all sort of nodded our heads and yet another piece of our soul grabbed its hat and coat and walked out and left us forever and we thought “It’s a metaphor for their sex life.” Back at dinner, everyone was crying. Vicki was talking about how her daughter having cancer is really hard on her career and sometimes makes her cry and everyone said “There, there. There, there.” And they fed her a martini olive stuffed with blue cheese and she sucked on it and gobbled it like a baby with a pacifier and they all said “There you go, there you go. Olive makes it better, huh? Olive makes it better.” Vicki smiled a watery smile and nodded her head and things were OK again. But only for a second! Man oh man these bitches can’t go five minutes without crying or screaming, it’s really unbelievable. So next Gretchen was eating a delicious cut of poopmeat, a rare San Francisco delicacy (especially in the Castro — hi-o bingo bango horrorshow!), and Alexis said “Hey let me try that,” and she put it in her mouth and then was all “Ewwwwwwwwwww poopmeat!” and spit it out with a great gooey slop into her napkin. Vicki was horrified. Absolutely horrified. She started making wretching, horking noises because she thought she was going to vomit and then Alexis was like “Stop now I’m going to vomit!” and they both sat there at this five-star restaurant hacking up hairballs and Gretchen put her head in her hands and said “I’m so fucking embarrassed” and then her chair broke and she fell down on the floor and lolled about and then Tamra was like “What a mess” and then she farted and Clarence the Angel dropped out of the sky, dead as parsnips, and then Lynne stood up and said “Ham salad adventurers club!” and then she just fell asleep standing up, like a common horse, and the rest of the restaurant all stood up in scared silence and then slowly walked out of the place, like Tippi Hedren stepping gingerly through a flock of birds in Bodega Bay. Actually what happened was that Vicki didn’t throw up but in the confessional interview or whatever that is, she was like “Alexis is a disaster, you can’t take her anywhere” and that was true, but really you can’t take any of these ladies anywhere. There should be a spin-off show that’s just taking them in a group to various fancy places. “Ladies, welcome to the Harvard Club!” “Ladies, this is a library!” And then two minutes later Lynne is face down dead on the floor and Alexis has somehow managed to get tangled in the chandelier and Tamra’s stuffing pens and staplers and anything that’s not bolted to the desks down the front of her dress. I would watch that show in a heartbeat. Wait. I already watch that show. That show is this show. After the dinner everyone went to drinks, where Vicki’s daughter met them and seemed OK and Gretchen started crying because cancer makes her sad, and then they all went back to their rooms to vomit and weep and suck forlornly on cocktail olives. Tamra stood rigid and frowning in her room, wondering why she hadn’t been more prominently featured in this episode. Maybe I’ll kill Ryan , she thought. That’ll get me some airtime… Vicki mostly just did her olive-sucking and she thought about her daughter, her lovely (hrrmm…$%) precious daughter and what she would do if anything ever happened to her. She’d probably wear black. And she’d just look really sad all the time. And people would see her walking down the street and they’d say “Oh there goes Vicki Funderson-Gunderson. She’s always so sad. So sad.” And that would be a new kind of a life, a new identity. Vicki the Sad. That’s what Vicki would do. If anything were ever to happen. God forbid. Space Jesus forbid. Lynne was worried in her room, suddenly remembering the house back at home ( Tamyra! ) and how all was lost. All was terribly lost. Rags , she thought. I mean, she often thinks the word “rags.” But this time she was thinking of a person. A special hobo person with, some say, magical powers. Powers to change. Powers to heal. Oh she was giddy. So giddy that when she put on her big nightcap and blew out her candle, she just couldn’t fall asleep. She needed to calm down. So she went and stood in the toilet and counted her numbers, which always soothes her. “One. Shoe. Free. Door. Beehive. Biscuits. Heaven…” Alexis stood on her balcony and she sang “Somewhere Out There,” hoping that blessed Earth Jesus would hear her and know that she was always worshiping him, that he always was in her heart, that he was her heart. She said three Hail Jims and buttoned up her nightgown further, scared that the Man in the Moon might be staring at her special love bags. Oh what a world. What a life faith is. It’s so much work. So much to do. She heard music playing somewhere and looked down below to the street. There was some sort of bar patio there, full of men. Those famous bachelors perhaps. She wondered if she should say hello, if she should show them her beautiful saintly face and tell them that all this could be theirs if they just settled down with the right girl. She was about to say “Yooo hoo, boysss!” when she saw something horrifying and terrible. One of them leaned in toward another and kissed him . Not in an Italian sort of kiss-on-the-cheek that always makes Earth Jesus nervous when he’s meeting with “associates” way. In a romantic way. They were done kissing but now they had their arms around each other and as she looked closer she saw that many of the other men, the Famous Bachelors, were doing the same. What sort of horrible sinful place was this? What fresh hell? She was mesmerized, transfixed, couldn’t let go. She stood there for hours. Hating them, reviling them, thinking them gross and queer and ugly and strange. But she couldn’t stop watching, hearing them laugh and talk, the way they… well, each couple, each reed-like pair… They were almost equal . One would talk and then the other would and there was no bowing or kissing of feet or silent standing in the corner while men did their talking. It was just a conversation, just people in love or in like or in something talking. And then there was music. Music so loud and so wonderful and Alexis, without thinking, started to sway a bit. She unbuttoned her nightgown, just a few buttons, and she felt wild and free and illicit and devilish. She looked up and out at the night, bridges yawning over the bay, the dull twinkle of Oakland, the hushed cry of the freeway. She looked back down and the men were dancing. Jutting hips and bobbing heads and laughing and clapping and from her strange aerial angle it looked almost reverent, worshipful, like they were praying to something old and urgent and primal. Their elbows out, their knees bent, a careless drunken dance, a wild and wonderful prayer. Alexis watched and felt something hard and dense inside her suddenly begin to thaw, some new genuine warmth being born. Below her the men laughed and hooted and stamped their feet and, with the night humming and strange and eternal around them, threw their hands up toward heaven.

Prognosticating Project Runway Based on Today’s Fashion Show

That’s right, Lifetime did the unthinkable and showed 10 of the 11 remaining designers collections in Bryant Park today. So, who is going to actually be a real finalist and who is going to win? Let’s figure it out. The whole point of having a Project Runway show during Fashion Week is to try to guess who is going to be the eventual winner of the show. That means that you may run across some spoilery info that you didn’t want to know. If you’re one of those spoiler crybabies, stop reading now and go click on a post about Harold Ford instead. As usual, the show was like a class reunion for former Runway contestants and it was great to see some of our old favorites (and some whose names we don’t even remember) in the flesh. There were a few B-list celebrities: Abigail Breslin , Rachel Zoe , Nigel Barker who was walking around trying to figure out why Tyra Banks wasn’t there and what the hell happened to America’s Next Top Model . The guest judge is Faith Hill, who joined Heidi Klum , Michael Kors , and Nina Garcia Fashion Director of Marie Claire Magazine in the front row right next to Harvey Weinstein. The only designer that hasn’t been eliminated on the show who didn’t show a collection is Mya. Does that mean she is the next to go? Did she get disqualified or otherwise so shamed herself the producers didn’t want her dirty clothes in their presentation? Who knows. Here are the collections in the order in which they appeared today. They were each 10 looks, so the number of dresses is no indicator of whether or not they made it to the finals. I was hoping to spot who had to make the surprise 11th look (!!) the night before the big tent and spoil this whole thing, but Lifetime is smarter than me. It must be the lady vitamins. There was lots of purple, blue, tweed, cap sleeves, big shoulders, and prints. While I picked the finalists, I also ranked the collections based on how good they were compared with each other, but that doesn’t indicate the order in which I think they’re going to get kicked out. So, without further ado: the clothes. These are photos I took from my seventh-row perch (right behind Nicholas from last season), so forgive the quality. We’ll be replacing them with professional shots once they move on the photo wires. Jay Inspiration : He didn’t say. The Look : Lots of separates, volume at the hips and shoulders. Tweed, muted purple, separates, a gorgeous scalloped cocktail dress, and a final red dress that didn’t match anything at all. Will He Be a Finalist? : Possibly. Why : Everything was extraordinarily well-made and tasteful. Jay has had a strong showing all season (including a win), and had one of the better presentations. Rank : 5 Janeane Inspiration : “Things that grow but are not alive” and crystals The Look : Very Forever 21 with simple separates, loose flowy tops, cap sleeves. Cohesive, but bland. Will He Be a Finalist? : No way. Why : She was the worst of the bunch, and her skills on the show haven’t been much better. Rank : 10 Jonathan Inspiration : “A study in volume and things that fly.” The Look : Gorgeous detailed tops that were big at the neck. Gold and rust colors, prints that looked like fire. Tweed leotard crotches that can only be described as diaperish. Will He Be a Finalist? : No. Why : The work was too spotty. Some great pieces, but the super short leotard look was disastrous. I wanted to like this more, but he really was out shown. Rank : 8 Anthony (aka Suzanne Sugarbaker) Inspiration : The rough economy and that people “just gotta keep movin’.” The Look : Surprisingly well-made dresses in sparkly colors. Lots of silver, paillettes, lots of ruffled skirts. The prom-queen glam that we’re used to seeing from Anthony. The only misstep was a Joan Crawford gown that was fitted around the waist and flared out at the bottom that made the model’s skinny ass look like a soccer ball. Will He Be a Finalist? : Yes. Why : He’s great TV and he’s been improving on the show. I was seriously wowed by his collection, possibly because I always have low expectations for Suzanne. Rank : 2 Jesse Inspiration : Film noir, crime novels, “women on the run.” The Look : Retro throwbacks in grey, forrest green, and black. The boogie woogey bugle girl from company tweed. WWII hats. A little silly, but intricate garments that were finely crafted. Will He Be a Finalist? : No. Why : His inspiration wasn’t processed enough and it looked like too much retread. Maybe it was the hats? Rank : 6 Seth Aaron Inspiration : ’40s Russian military. The Look : Bondage Ninotchka with a pom-pom on her head. High necks, black and white stripes, structured layers of fabric, yellow scotch tape plaid, tiny polka dot prints, cap sleeves, and a final purple dress that had no connection to anything that came before it. Will He Be a Finalist? : No. Why : Seth Aaron was surprisingly impressive today, but he hasn’t been that great on the show and the judges don’t seem to admire his aesthetic. Rank : 7 Emilio Inspiration : “Color Me Bad” (we assume he doesn’t mean the ’90s R&B group) The Look : Bold colors, very chic and very Marc Jacobs. Lots of coats with a wonderful almost floral print beneath it, wonderful red, blue, and black knits. A metallic gold flowey Donna Summer disco spectacular for the finale that somehow managed to fit. Will He Be a Finalist? : He should be, but no. Why : His collection was sound and he’s been great on the show, but something about his demeanor said that he was pissed he wasn’t in the finals. He was wearing a hoodie and jeans, barely spoke when he came out to introduce his collection and looked gruff the whole time. If he’s not a finalist with this collection, he’s been robbed. Rank : 2 Mila Inspiration : Shadows. The Look : Exactly the ’60s mod retread you’d expect from Mila. Lots of black, and black and white combinations with muted purple thrown in. Patent leather, V-shaped patters, lots of wonderful texture. Will He Be a Finalist? : Yes. Why : Nina Garcia Fashion Director of Marie Claire Magazine loves her and she regularly churns out great clothes. This collection was a bit underwhelming though, and a little too dark. Strangely enough, the best outfit of the whole bunch was on Mila herself. Rank : 4 Ben Inspiration : Ray Bradbury’s The Martian Chronicles . The Look : A progression from washed out white to totally red. Earth tones with pops of a strange blue color. Lots of pants with what appeared to be bright blue kneepads. Strange configurations of fabric and crazy patterns. Will He Be a Finalist? : No. Why : The collection was a bit of a mess. Also, Ben said it was a “very emotional day” and was almost crying. We take that to mean he was sad he had to show a collection that wasn’t in the finals. Rank : 9 Amy Inspiration : Photographical digital printing and pleating. The Look : That about sums it up. Her first look was this insane burka-like silouette of a pleated skirt that started right below the model’s eyes and continued down her whole body. Tons of pleats, piles of pleats. Black and white Rorschach prints, puse accents and knits, handkerchief skirts, and a shockingly awesome simple black dress with a back that billowed in and out like a sea urchin underwater. Will He Be a Finalist? : Yes. Why : Amy is consistently great and her line, while a bit daffy was the best of the bunch. She had a clear point of view. The judges always reward innovation and crazy concepts, so she should take home the top prize. That is, unless Faith Hill insists on someone more safe. Rank : 1

David Paterson Tries to Escape His ‘Kafkaesque Scenario’ on Larry King

When Larry King asked David Paterson tonight if his blindness made it hard for him to read the tabloid headlines about a story he claims doesn’t exist, we understood the true meaning of “Kafkaesque”. David Paterson’s appearance on Larry King Live was his most high-profile move yet to stifle the sex rumors about him that exploded last Sunday—Super Bowl Sunday no less! We were one of a number of outlets speculating about an unpublished New York Times article with sexy revelations crazy enough to force Paterson’s revelation. But it contained no such things, said Paterson’s camp . And Paterson did not resign . But since Sunday, Paterson has been a case study in just how hard it is to take away the chattering class’ delicious rumors once they start getting passed around like a lukewarm shrimp cocktail. He’s issued a number of denials, but each one seems to glance off the rumor mill and fly crazily back in his face: Fighting back against the Post’s claims of extra-marital humping prompted some more unsubstantiated rumors ; his appearance on “Imus” helped keep “keep the larger nuttiness alive by claiming the Times’s phantom story had “hypersexualized” him,” as Chris Smith wrote for New York . And still, the question hangs over everything: What the hell is in that article? Thus Paterson ended up on Larry King tonight, hoping that saying the same things he’d been saying all week to more people would fix things. And once there, Larry King asked him if he had trouble reading the real headlines about this supposedly non-existent story. It’s enough to make a guy want to call a situation “Kafkaesque!” Which he did: Someone did the reading in English class! It’s an appropriate allusion though, since Paterson is approaching this thing with as much direction as Josef K trying to grasp the charges against him. On Larry King, he claimed that addressing the rumors would only strengthen them, when he has been vehemently denying them all week. Then he went on to deny, in great detail, the Post’s best rumor: That a state trooper discovered him and a mystery woman smooching in a utility closet in the governor’s mansion: And when King asked Paterson “Who’s after you?” Paterson’s anti-speculation stance got a little muddled with his own *hint* *hint* *nudge* nudge* : For me to speculate about it would be as wrong as the speculations made about me. I can’t prove it, I don’t know who it is. Maybe those in the media could check their sources more. Maybe those in the media might investiagte why their sources are saying what they’re saying. (Cue twilight zone music!) Paterson’s flailing is a tacit admission that there really is no way to stop a tabloid machine that revved up to peak RPMs—at least not until the Times finally publishes their big expose and we can all see for ourselves if it is or is not a 3,000 word narrative of his night with two state assemblywomen in the garden shed or whatever. And Paterson once again urged the Times to come out with it, or at least “clear the air”. Also, he blamed Eliot Spitzer for making the Governor’s office so sex-rumorific: Probably the most Kafkaesque part about this whole thing is: WHERE THE SHIT IS THAT NEW YORK TIMES ARTICLE!?

David Paterson Tries to Escape His ‘Kafkaesque Situation’ on Larry King

When Larry King asked David Paterson tonight if his blindness made it hard for him to read the tabloid headlines he’d come on the show to dispute, we sort of felt bad for him. American Idol: Doing It In a Group Is Better Than Doing It Alone

Hollywood Week has ended its first week! Yes, there’s more than one week to this single week. Similarly, all the American Idols are German. It’s just how things work — time bends, reflections change — in Ryan Seacrest ‘s imagination world. That’s my theory about this show. When it is finally done, Ryan Seacrest will wake up and realize it’s all just been a dream. Kelly Clarkson will be waiting tables somewhere in the grassy sprawl of Texas, handing out baskets of grease and meat, and suddenly she will sense a strange ripple in the air, in her soul, and she will wonder what it was. Sanjaya will put down the tube of lipstick and turn to his sister, bored and fanning herself on the bed, and say “Did you feel that?” The sister will exhale, tired, and say “Maybe a little.” Dunkleman will stir on the recliner, his mom puffing cigarettes in the kitchen, but he will not wake up. And Ryan will rub his squirrely eyes and pad over to the window, Los Angeles brown and humming along, sticky under its blanket of sun and smoke. Another day on the radio , he’ll think. And after such a wonderful dream. At least I hope that’s what will happen! But, as always, who the hell knows. All we can do now is watch and wonder. And last night I did wonder many things! Things like, Why would you pick a Gwen Stefani song with lyrics that are impossible to sing and remember? Or, more importantly, Why is there a Group Day at all? This isn’t called American Idol s for gosh’s sake. This is singular, lonely, hermetic. Who cares about how these individuals play with others? I think it must be that Group Day is grueling training for the show’s most revered and hallmark of traditions: The group numbers that unfold like beautiful dying lotus blossoms at the top of every elimination show. You know, those whirling, shuffling dervishes of light and noise and squeaky-squawk voices and, as often as possible, glowing all-white suits. I guess, yeah, now that I think about it? Those are really, really important. They show us the terrific unit cohesion and mighty amassed Voltron splendor of Idol talent. Until you’ve seen Danny Gokey doing his hurdy-gurdy dance while Scott the Blind Guy does an awkward tush-push in the back and Adam Lambert and Kris Allen make furtive love to each other under Rickey Minor’s golden mixing board of dreams, well… you just can’t appreciate the true depth of talent that is American Idol . OK, so. Yes. I now understand why there is Group Day. For that reason. And also because it’s fun to watch fights. Oh isn’t it fun to watch strangers fight about things we don’t fully understand? What a delight and a joy television has given us, these hours and hours of watching strangers fight about vague things. Last night we saw groups of singing hopefuls whistle-whine to each other about dance steps and harmonies and the proper way to put out your hand and show the audience the notes your are singing while you go “uhhh HEEE uhhh HEeee Uhhh heee ahhhhhhh…” These are important skillz for any professional entertainer, especially that last one. If you don’t use your hand to show the notes you are singing, then the audience will not believe that you are a good singer. This is just fact. Anyway, the groups. Let’s see. There were a few all-girl groups that did really well, one of them containing the tragic Angela Martin. Good to see her still holding on. People sang that “ooo OOO, OOO OO” Gwen Stefani song with the rap chorus about a refrigerator that is very hard, and no one could do it. One nerdy girl did it, so good for her. A boy group featuring the vocalz of Big Fat Guy Who Just Had a Kid and Cute Teengirl Bait In a Wool Cap saw half of their members killed by L’Ellen Degeneres’ sharp-bladed tongue. But don’t worry. Big Fat Daddy and TeenScream got through. So, more of that! There was a horrible group who you can see above that mysteriously made it through. You know who I liked the least in that group? That total musical theatre queen who was all big expressions and Fosse moves. He reminded me of this dude , only he was more theatrey, if such a thing is possible. I mean, I guess when I say “liked the least” I also mean “hope sticks around,” because he is funny and familiar, albeit plainly ridiculous. Ryan was doing some sort of setup for some bullshit and walking down the aisle and he made some comment about how grueling everything is and all this dramatic stuff and the camera quickly cut over to Fosse and he was like guffawing and making this big Laugh Face and I was like “You indicating motherfucker. Show, do not tell.” There were few others of note last night. That Egghead Latino is just fanfuckingtastic and is going to go really, really far in the competish, I suspect. He’s like Danny Gokey if Danny Gokey wasn’t a dead wife-pimping maroon who does lurching Kokopelli dances. So he is good and good for him. There’s also a teen queen from Connecticut who has a bomb-dot-com voice, but I’m not sure if she’s quite got the look. It would be fun if she and TeenSquirt with the hat ended up doing it behind Rickey Minor’s autoharp of glittery sadnesses. I wish sometimes, when I am cold and lonely and home alone and cigarettes and wine are hardly a comfort at all, that they followed the contestants back to their ContestantHaus more often. Because then we could have seen Sanjaya and a camera guy share a tender first kiss. We could have seen Paris Bennett murder that drifter and bury him under a cactus plant. And we could see the Teen Queen and the Teen Dream fall winsomely in love. The world needs more of that.* There was an annoying girl who wears big chunky Fashion Glasses of varying colors, and it was just so ridiculous. Big Chunky Fashion Glasses seems a careful way of denoting that you, special squiggly you, are an Indie. An Indie who goes to coffeeshops called Mud or Dirt or Spike or Grunt and you also like to look at bicycles and sometimes ride them, and mostly Joanna Newsome does it for you with her Thumbelina harp, and if your mother called you on a Sunday afternoon and said “What are you doing?” you would probably say something true and crunchy and boring like “Eating fresh tomatoes like apples.” And you know what is the complete opposite of all of that? Being in Group Week on American Idol . And yet the glasses! Two worlds that should safely sail past each other end up catastrophically colliding and we all scratch our heads and get angry. Or at least I do. Plus she was annoying and couldn’t sing that well, and yet? And yet the little sumbitch was put through to the next round. I guess Randy liked her glasses and Ellen liked her pearly white teeth. The main focus of last night’s entertainment was this group that was falling apart. It was composed of Raspy Rock Girl, Three Dud Girls, and this little flop-haired Kid. After much weeping and shrieking and bellowing at each other, it was finally time for the group to perform. They shuffled up on stage and then just sort of oozed around it. They set fire to the curtains and quietly suffocated a drummer. They wee’d in the corner and began softly mumbling the pledge of allegiance. They were, no fooling, spectacularly awful. They had 12 hours to learn one song, and yet didn’t learn a thing. They forgot Song. They lost the Song in their hearts. They went backwards, the Marty McFlys of season 9 Group-de-Loop. Luckily for no one, Raspy and the Kid got through to the next round, as did one of the Dud Girls. All told, the old crones we call “judges” put 71 of 96 treasures through to the next round. Only 25 eliminated during the fearsome Group Day. That seems light, doesn’t it? All right. I’m not sure there’s much else to say. Ryan, this is a wonderful dream you’re having. Please keep it up. Never wake up, actually. Never, ever wake up, Ryan Seacrest. And then when you are old and dying and then dead, there will be a great rumble and God’s booming voice will say “Seacrest, out” and we’ll all plead with God to let him stay, but it will be too late. And somewhere in the Carolinas a scrawny celery stalk of a thing named Clay will look up from his Marie Claire and take a sip of lemonade and look out at a stormy summer sky, wondering. *Total non sequitur, even for me: So I’m a total jackass and am just now catching up on Friday Night Lights , and watching Julie Taylor and Matt Saracen fall winsomely in love is, in this bleak awful late-winter, one of the few joys to be squeezed out of the day.

Report: Evander Holyfield Beats Wife For Not "Putting God First"

Sometimes, Christianity is subject to interpretation. Some believe the death penalty is immoral, for example; others feel it is the only just solution at times. Beating your wife because she isn’t “putting God first,” however? It’s hard to see a way in which Christ would justify that one. Sorry, Evander Holyfield. The former world heavyweight champ always made it clear he had no plans to retire from fighting – we just didn’t know he was referring to the bedroom! His current and third wife, Candi Holyfield, called the police after the couple got into a fight at their home last week. It all started because it was cold. No, seriously. She claims the heat was off in their Georgia mansion and as she took their kids to the bathroom in the night, she complained to Evander. “He told me I was only thinking about myself, and the children’s hearts beat faster,” she wrote in a court declaration seeking a restraining order against him. The “deeply religious” boxer accused her of being disrespectful to God when pulled the covers over her head, and said she needed to “start putting God first.” Maybe so, but come on, dude. You can afford to set the heat at 68. Holyfield refused to let up, asking his wife if she’d been tithing. He asked for check stubs of her payments to their church and after she refused … look out. Candi alleges Holyfield hit her in the face on the back of the head twice and on her back. She claims Holyfield hurt her before in the presence of their kids. Understandably, now Candi wants out . “She is fed-up with his womanizing and money troubles,” says a source. “She is working as a nurse and is now in the process of finding a new place to live.” The boxer, who was once married to Paulette Brown and then Dr. Janice Itson, claims he’s not earning as much as he once did. Eleven kids will do that. Three wives, 11 kids, multiple violent episodes. Talk about putting God first! Evander has not spoken with cops. He and Candi are due in court Feb. 18.

Lil Wayne’s Rebirth Is No Match For Lady Antebellum

Weezy’s latest debuts at #2, Nick Jonas & the Administration enter at #3 on Billboard 200. By Gil Kaufman Lil Wayne’s Rebirth Photo: Universal Motown What a difference two years make. While Lil Wayne smashed records when his last album, 2008’s Tha Carter III, sold more than 1 million copies and debuted at #1, the frequently delayed, oft-leaked follow-up, Rebirth, came nowhere near that figure. The rock-flavored disc — which was accidentally shipped to 500 Amazon.com customers in December and then widely leaked online — will debut at #2 on the Billboard 200 album charts this week on sales of 176,000, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan. The debut comes one day after Wayne got a three-week delay in his sentencing for federal gun charges due to a dental emergency. That figure was not enough to unseat last week’s #1, country darlings Lady Antebellum ‘s Need You Now, which will retain the pole position despite losing nearly 60 percent of its first-week business (209,000). Coming in just behind Wayne is the debut from Nick Jonas & the Administration , Who I Am, which sold 82,000 copies. The only other debut in the top 10 is from horror rocker Rob Zombie , whose Hellbilly Deluxe 2 lands at #8 (49,000). The rest of the top 10 features albums that got a nice post-Grammy awards bump, including Lady Gaga ‘s Fame (#4, 79,000, up 17 percent), the 2010 Grammy Nominees compilation (#5, 71,000, up 55 percent), the Black Eyed Peas ‘ The E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies) (#6, 70,000, up 76 percent), Taylor Swift ‘s Album-of-the-Year-winning Fearless (#7, 53,000, up 58 percent) and Best New Artist winners Zac Brown Band ‘s Foundation (#10, 40,000, up 82 percent). Coming in at #9 is Susan Boyle ‘s I Dreamed a Dream, which has sold nearly 3.5 million copies in just under three months. Other big Grammy winners getting a boost include the night’s biggest trophy wrangler, Beyonc

American Idol Rundown: Ellen, Female Contestants, Guitars Rule Hollywood

Thank goodness it’s Hollywood week on American Idol . Goodbye embarrassing contestants, hello major talent! Before we get to that talent, however, let’s also greet Ellen DeGeneres… with open arms. Wasn’t she great on her first night as a judge? The comedian was funny (we loved when she had singers moving all around the stage before letting each one through), but also fresh and straightforward. Ellen won’t be Paula Abdul 2.0, sugarcoating every critique and covering up bad performances by telling the contestants how nice they look. She’ll bring the criticism, but in a humorous fashion, such as when she told one dude his routine “scared” her and resembled a leopard stalking his prey. As for the best of the night… Didi Benami has finalist written all over her. She came across as a more polished Brooke White, strumming her guitar and bringing an emotional singer/songwriter vibe. Probably our favorite performance. But the “infectious, real” Crystal Bowersox , as Simon put it, was a close second. She also relied on her guitar and had fellow contestants applauding before she even completed “Natural Woman.” The third impressive female was Haley Vaughn . Only 16, she offers a unique pop/country sound and a healthy dose of charisma. We were very happy to see her advance. Two men stood out, as well: Andrew Garcia proved that guitar-playing was a theme for the top performers so far, impressing the judges with a soulful acousting rendition of “Straight Up.” We wouldn’t refer to him as “genius” or compare him to Adam Lambert (closer to Kris Allen), as Kara did, but certainly someone to keep an eye on. The same can be said for Casey James , and not just because he took off his shirt for his initial, pre-Hollywood audition. We loved his bluesy number… played with the help of a guitar, of course. WHO WAS YOUR FAVORITE?
