Kelly Clarkson, Mary J. Blige, Maroon 5 also will perform, joining the likes of Katy Perry and Pitbull, at the American Music Awards. By James Montgomery Justin Bieber Photo: Jack Guez/ AFP Justin Bieber , Christina Aguilera , Kelly Clarkson , Mary J. Blige and Maroon 5 have been added to the ever-expanding list of performers for the 2011 American Music Awards , joining a roster of talent that already includes Katy Perry and Pitbull. While most of this year’s performances are being kept under wraps, a spokesperson for Dick Clark Productions announced Monday (October 24) that Aguilera and Maroon 5 will team up on their current smash “Moves Like Jagger” at this year’s AMAs, which will air live on ABC on November 20 at 8 p.m. ET/PT from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. Earlier this month, in a nomination special hosted by Pitbull and Nicki Minaj , it was revealed that Perry would head into the show as one of the night’s most-nominated acts (along with fellow females Adele, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift), up for Artist of the Year, Pop or Rock Music: Favorite Female Artist and Adult Contemporary Music: Favorite Artist. It’s somewhat fitting, given not only the rather huge year she’s had, but that she also delivered a full-throttle version of her hit “Firework” at last year’s AMAs . For the fifth year, American Music Award winners will be determined by online voting. Fans can support their favorites in all categories by heading over to AMAVote.com . The 2011 American Music Awards will air live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 20, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. Lil Wayne ‘Never Had A Moment’ Like Closing VMAs

‘Drake introduced me, it was great,’ Weezy tells MTV News of his 2011 performance. By Rob Markman, with additional reporting by Jim Cantiello Lil Wayne performing at the 2011 VMAs Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage When last year’s Video Music Awards aired, Lil Wayne was in a Rikers Island jail cell serving out an eight-month bid. So when he agreed to participate in this year’s VMAs , he knew it had to be big. Not only did Weezy close out the awards show on Sunday night, he timed his Tha Carter IV for a midnight digital release, so fans could purchase the album shortly after watching him on TV. “This was actually very important to me,” Weezy F. told MTV News correspondent Jim Cantiello after closing the big show. “I’ve actually never had a moment like this.” Kicking off the performance with “How to Love,” Wayne started out subdued. Dressed in a white tee, fedora and black-and-white cheetah-print pants, he crooned the words to the acoustic ballad. But by the end of the first verse, the Young Money CEO went into full-on rock mode, stripping his shirt and tossing his hat as he jammed out to a Black Sabbath-inspired rendition of his street single “John.” Wayne even jumped into the crowd and greeted his friend and collaborator on the song, Rick Ross . After making his way back to the stage, the Rebirth rapper picked up a guitar and began to play a few notes before slamming it to the ground in true rock star fashion. All in all, it seemed to be an enjoyable night for Weezy and his YMCMB family. After Nicki Minaj won Best Hip-Hop Video , Wayne, Birdman, Mack Maine and Tyga happily celebrated in the aisles of the Nokia Theatre. “This is my first time, period, so I’m just ecstatic, I’m amazed,” Wayne said about closing the VMAs. “I already have Moonmen at home, so I was good with that. Nicki Minaj got a Moonman, so that was awesome. I got to perform, Drake introduced me, it was great.” Tell us what you thought of Wayne’s VMA performance in the comments below! Britney Spears Accepts Video Vanguard VMA — And A Kiss From Lady Gaga

Gaga’s Jo Calderone alter ego introduced a dance tribute to Brit’s best videos. By John Mitchell Britney Spears and Lady Gaga on stage at the 2011 VMAs Photo: MTV It’s only fitting for one princess of pop to fete another. And that’s what happened when Lady Gaga stepped out on stage at the MTV Video Music Awards to pay tribute to Britney Spears with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. Well, kind of. Gaga took the stage to honor Spears still in character as her male alter ego Jo Calderone, which she’d taken on for her show-opening performance earlier in the night. And that made things pretty interesting. Calderone opened by calling Spears an inspiration, saying, “She taught us all how to be fearless, and the industry wouldn’t be the same without her.” Calderone then went on to get a little personal about Spears. He told the audience he used to put up posters of the pop star on his bedroom wall and be inspired in non-musical ways. It was a weird moment, but Calderone is a young guy of the right generation — a generation that would indeed have posters of Britney Spears on his/her wall. There’s a reason, after all, she was being awarded the Vanguard Award. The tribute then turned into exactly what any great tribute to this particular diva should be: a dance party. Spears is known as one of the biggest dance pop artists of her generation, and accordingly, dancers wearing Britney’s most famous video looks took the stage to get down to her biggest hits, from “Baby One More Time” and “Crazy” to “Toxic” and “Do Somethin’.” By the time the sequence dissolved into a full-stage dance-off to Spears’ recent smash “Till The World Ends,” children also wearing Spears’ myriad costumes popped up on stage alongside their grown-up dancing counterparts. It was a fitting way to show the impact Spears’ music has had. From kids to adults, everyone knows and loves Britney. As the performance ended, Gaga-as-Calderone again grabbed the spotlight to introduce the pop star and did so with the kind of bravado that carried him through his monologue earlier in the show. “Everybody, stand the f— up,” Calderone demanded. Looking better than ever and glowing from all the praise, Spears then took the stage. Calderone certainly liked what he saw, eying the singer before stepping forward for a semi-awkward stare-down. But Gaga, er, Calderone eventually got what he wanted: a quick kiss from the one and only Britney Spears. He wanted more, however, but alas, it just wasn’t going to happen. Being a classy guy, Calderone brushed off Britney’s dismissal of his advances with a cool, “I don’t want Gaga to get pissed.” Spears seemed thankful for the prize but used her time to shine the spotlight on another artist: Beyonc
