Hailee Steinfeld, James Franco, Nicole Kidman Grateful For Oscar Nominations

‘It was very exciting. It’s incredible. I’m in shock,’ ‘True Grit’ teen star tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Hailee Steinfeld Photo: Christopher Polk/ Getty Images As more and more of Hollywood woke up to the news of the Oscar nominations on Tuesday morning (January 25), the nominees themselves opened up about the recognition they’d received from the Academy. “What an extraordinary journey this film has taken me on! ‘Rabbit Hole’ has been a labor of love and I’m so thankful to John Cameron Mitchell, David Lindsay-Abaire and the brilliant cast,” Nicole Kidman said in a statement to MTV News about her Best Actress nod. “This nomination reflects all of the heart and soul that these people have put into it, and I can’t thank them enough.” Oscar host, James Franco, finds himself a nominee at the show as well. He’s up for Actor in a Leading Role for his role in “127 Hours.” “I’m about to go to class,” Franco said on the “Today” show. “I’ve got my normal pre-class makeup on, and there are some lights here. It’s great.” Hailee Steinfeld also spoke to the “Today Show” about her nomination for Actress in a Supporting Role for her part in “True Grit.” “I was asleep and I heard my mom and dad screaming in the other room. They came in my room with flowers,” she said. “It was very exciting. It’s incredible. I’m in shock. The film overall is incredible. To be a part of it all was amazing. I’m so proud of it all.” “True Grit” directors/producers/writers Joel and Ethan Coen are up for Best Picture, Best Directing and Best Writing (Adapted Screenplay), but they didn’t want to seem greedy about it. “Ten [nominations] seems like an awful lot,” they told AwardsDaily.com. “We don’t want to take anyone else’s.” “The Fighter” star Melissa Leo was the first to speak to “Good Morning America” after her Supporting Actress nomination was announced. “What a thrill to share it with all of America right now,” she said. “Love to my family. Love to Alice Ward [the real-life woman I play in the film]. Thank you guys so much! Alice, we’re going to the Oscars!” Leo also commented on Mark Wahlberg not receiving a nomination for his part in the film. “Right now, Mark Wahlbergh, the most generous man I’ve ever met, is receiving all sorts of nominations. Every nomination is a nomination for Mark Wahlberg. There would be nothing without him,” she added. “It was just incredible. The proof is in the pudding.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Bill Erwin, ‘Seinfeld’ Actor, Dies At 96

The veteran character actor received an Emmy nomination for portraying a crotchety shut-in on a 1993 episode of the sitcom. By Eric Ditzian Bill Erwin as Sid Fields in “Seinfeld” Photo: Sony Pictures Television Bill Erwin, an actor best known for his Emmy-nominated turn as a crotchety old man on “Seinfeld,” died at his home in Studio City, California, on Wednesday at 96 of age-related causes, the Los Angeles Times reported . A well-respected character actor whose career spanned films, television and the stage, Erwin starred in a 1993 episode of “Seinfeld,” playing an elderly man named Sid Fields with whom Jerry Seinfeld volunteers to spend time. Erwin’s portrayal of the foul-mouthed, paranoid shut-in became one of the more memorable guest spots in the show’s history. Fields is convinced that the CIA is after him, his maid is stealing his money and Jerry has come to kill him. “I wasn’t born yesterday,” Fields says in the episode. “I might drop dead today, but I sure as hell wasn’t born yesterday.” Erwin began his career in Hollywood in the early 1950s, popping up in roles on television shows like “I Love Lucy,” “Perry Mason” and “Leave It to Beaver.” In 1958 he appeared opposite Jack Nicholson in the movie “The Cry Baby Killer,” playing Nicholson’s father. He went on to amass credits on the stage, winning a 1983 Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for “Old Friends,” and in TV programs such as “The Twilight Zone,” “Gunsmoke,” “The Golden Girls,” “Growing Pains” and “Who’s the Boss?” In 1980, Erwin played a bellman, to great popular acclaim, in “Somewhere in Time,” a time-travel drama starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. But it was his irascible “Seinfeld” appearance that remains his best-remembered entertainment moment. He received an Emmy nomination in the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series category but lost out to David Clennon, who won for his turn on HBO’s “Dream On.”

Katie Holmes Brings Some Legs at the Gold Globe Award Nominations

I hate all award shows with a passion. The reason is not because they don’t invite me to attend or that they don’t even give me press access. It’s just that I don’t care to see an industry reward itself in some big scale event that people watch cuz they think it actually matters. It’s all bullshit and I don’t know who was nominated, I do know they know they probably already know the winner, because that’s just how these things worked as everything is paid of and staged….cuz the judges are all insiders….and I just don’t like partcipating in that kind of propaganda bullshit…so if you’re interested in knowing who is nominated because you drink the kool aid and are into this kind of thing you’ll have to use google…I’ll just look at the legs that were at the nomination presentation event…because they belong to Katie Holmes and I think it’s always worth celebrating when a bitch who’s tits I loved in some movie she was topless in is let out of her cage… Bonus – Some Gia Mangina Mantegna bitch was also there and luckily she brought her legs too. I have no idea who she is, but you can look it up while checking the nominations, you popculture brainwashed homo.

Sen. Harkin: If Obama Caves On Taxes, He Better Pray For Palin In 2012

WASHINGTON — The sense of frustration among Senate Democrats over the White House's handling of the tax cut debate has grown throughout the week, culminating in a series of articles on Thursday anticipating some form of presidential capitulation. Whether the mood is genuine or deliberate — or, perhaps, a bit of both — is worth some honest debate. Aides acknowledged that they were airing concerns about a forthcoming tax cut deal, in part, for the purpose of stiffening the White House's spine during the remaining negotiations. None would take the step of going on the record with their remarks. But others were even blunter when they went completely off the record. When leaving a Senate Democratic caucus meeting late Thursday night, most members declined to answer questions about the White House's role in the tax cut negotiations. But the few who did talk didn't exactly hide their sadness over the state of affairs. Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.), for one, slyly acknowledged that he'd get himself in trouble if he answered whether or not he was happy with the administration's engagement. “You want me to be the [troublemaker]?… I'm too junior around here to do that,” said the 86-year-old, five-term senator. Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) did a little less dancing. “I just think, if [Obama] caves on this, then I think that he's gonna have a lot of swimming upstream [to do],” said the Iowa Democrat, a unabashed progressive who has been less reticent than most in criticizing the White House. “He campaigned on [allowing the rates for the rich to expire], was very strong on that, and sometimes there are things that are just worth fighting for.” And if he decided to compromise away from that, a reporter asked the senator. “He would then just be hoping and praying that Sarah Palin gets the nomination,” Harkin replied, insinuating that there would be few other Republicans that Obama could assuredly beat in 2012. added by: TimALoftis
