Spotify when will you come to US? #SXSW

Last year I was visiting Current's UK office. The hottest thing I discovered there (other than the pickled onion flavoured crisps) was streaming music software Spotify. The program let play almost any song I've ever heard instantly. My new office colleagues sent me mixes, for my enjoyment. We bonded over our shared taste in international party music. I became addicted. When I returned stateside, I was devastated when I found out, that Spotify does not work in the United States. I've been waiting for the day that day where I can stream music so easily once again. This afternoon I sat in a crowded hall listening to founder Daniel Ek's keynote speech at SXSW, with hopes that he'd provide us with a big reveal. He talked about how the service has grown. Recently they've been expanding the service to mobile apps. A version comes with three-to-six months of free service on Sweden's local provide Telia. “We want to enable your library on these types of devices.” He showed us an example of the app in progress. This product will all you to turn your phone into a miniature mobile disco. The industry has worked with Spotify since it's inception. Ek says that music sales are on the rise in places like Sweden, where 15 – 20% of the nation's population use the service. So if this is a viable business model that the music industry supports, why isn't it available in North America? Someone finally asked the million dollar question. Ek wants “to build the best possible product” before a US launch. They are also aiming to move into the Chinese market. He opened by saying “playlists are the new mixtapes of 2010.” I am optimistic that Spotify playlists will become the new mixtapes for people everywhere in the world. added by: joshuaheller

‘American Idol’ Judge Kara DioGuardi Says Her First Season ‘Sucked’

‘It was freshman year. … I’d never been on television,’ DioGuardi told Jay Leno on ‘The Tonight Show.’ By Eric Ditzian Kara DioGuardi Photo: Alberto E. Rodriguez/ Getty Images On Monday night, the night before “American Idol” debuts its top 12 contestants , Kara DioGuardi stopped by Jay Leno’s “Tonight Show” couch to talk all things season nine. The “Idol” judge dished on her tableside flirtation with Simon Cowell, defended the performance of Ellen DeGeneres and admitted that her nerves got in the way of her commentary last season. ‘American Idol’ Season 8 Memorable Moments “It was freshman year,” DioGuardi explained about her first year behind the judges’ table. “It sucked. I’d never been on television. The 30-second sound bite — I’m Italian, that’s impossible! To shut up is difficult!” This year, she’s finally started to have fun on “Idol.” From a viewer’s perspective, there’s no doubting DioGuardi has become more comfortable on camera and has been able to deliver more insightful criticism . “I think this year, it’s more about the contestants because I’m not feeling as nervous, so I can zero in on them and what they’re feeling and what they’re going through,” she said. “It’s just a different experience and it feels way better.” Leno also made a point of questioning the ongoing coziness between Kara and Simon. The two judges seemed to be snuggling up to each other over the last few weeks — something that even Ryan Seacrest addressed at one point. DioGuardi is a newlywed, while Cowell recently got engaged . So what’s going on between the duo? “I’m trying to figure it out,” DioGuardi said with a laugh. “I don’t know if it’s because he’s got a girlfriend and he’s got separation anxiety and he needs to lean into me.” Before the segment wrapped up, DioGuardi came to the defense of DeGeneres, who has come under criticism for delivering kind words rather than accurate, constructive critiques from behind the judges’ table. Kara maintained that Ellen is “doing a great job.” “It’s scary,” she added. “She’s getting used to that. Sometimes it’s bad news and it ain’t fun to deliver.” Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions. Abigail Clancy’s Hotness Gets Jacked

Here’s British wonder hottie Abigail Clancy looking too damn hot on the cover of the appropriately named Jack magazine. This chick needs to get more exposure, she’s too good looking to be hidden away in England. She should come to North America, get on Dancing With The Stars or some garbage like that so we can see her more often. It’s just not fair. She can even stay with me, I’ll have mom bring down a futon.

Islamic scholars forbid full-body scans for Muslims

Islamic scholars issued a “fatwa” this week forbidding Muslims to go through full body scanners at airports because it violates Islamic rules on modesty. The Fiqh Council of North America, a body of Islamic scholars, issued the fatwa. The fatwa says: “It is a violation of clear Islamic teachings that men or women be seen naked by other men and women. Islam highly emphasizes haya (modesty) and considers it part of faith. The Quran has commanded the believers, both men and women, to cover their private parts.” http://www.examiner.com/x-10853-Portland-Humanist-Examiner~y2010m2d12-Religion-I… added by: locutus

30 Seconds To Mars Talk Upcoming North American Tour

Next leg of Into the Wild Tour begins in Las Vegas on April 9. By Kyle Anderson Jared Leto and Tomislav Milicevic of 30 Seconds to Mars Photo: MTV News 30 Seconds to Mars have been a band for over 10 years, but they’re just coming into their own as an elite touring force now. On February 19, they’ll head to the U.K. to begin the first leg of their Into the Wild Tour, which will have them touring all over Europe. But American fans need not worry, as lead singer Jared Leto told MTV News that they’ll be back in North America on April 9 for a show in Las Vegas. “From Elvis to Cirque du Soleil to 30 Seconds to Mars — you’ve got your pick,” Leto says dryly of the band’s visit to the Entertainment Capital of the World. Despite their decade-long existence, the thrill of touring hasn’t waned for Leto and his cohorts. “We did a lot of shows to 20 people in a bar who were more interested in cheap drinks than they were the band,” Leto says. “We’re really excited and we’re grateful for it, and we don’t take it for granted at all.” “I remember just a few years ago there was a show where we sold 800 tickets and we couldn’t believe it,” Leto adds. “The very first show on this tour is 8,000 people, and the next day there’s gonna be 11,000 people there. I’m going to have to get my voice in shape!” “We’re about to go on our first arena tour — we’re crazy excited,” says guitarist Tomislav Milicevic. The inspiration for the name of the tour comes from a lyric from “The Mission,” a song that Leto wrote back in 1999 that appeared on the group’s self-titled debut. “When you go out on the road, it is kind of a venture into the wild. You’re with this group of pirates, from your crew to your bandmates, and you share this insane journey around the world. It’s quite unlike anything else.” “Plus, acceptable levels of hygiene go down when you’re on tour,” Milicevic quipped. Related Artists 30 Seconds To Mars
