Lea Michele ‘Excited’ For Gwyneth Paltrow’s ‘Glee’ Return

Starlet also reveals to MTV News on Golden Globes red carpet that ‘the boys’ will belt the Bieber tunes on upcoming episode. By Mawuse Ziegbe Lea Michele Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images Gwyneth Paltrow’s “Glee” guest spot was so memorable that the Oscar-winning “Country Strong” star will be heading back to the show for a second go-around. This time, she and “Glee” faculty heartthrob Matthew Morrison will be heating things up with a romantic story line. Aside from the dating arc with Mr. Schuester, details about how Paltrow will once again shake things up as sassy substitute Holly Holliday remain scant — even “Glee” star Lea Michele is in the dark about her possible scenes with the superstar actress. When MTV News caught up with the singer/actress on the Golden Globes red carpet on Sunday (January 16), she admitted that she didn’t know much about Paltrow’s return but maintained, “I’m excited. Anything with Gwyneth is great.” In addition to Paltrow, superstar Justin Bieber is set to be incorporated into the hit show soon, as the show is slated to take on some of the pop star’s peppy catalog. But when it comes to the Biebs, Michele divulged that she won’t be belting any of the teen idol’s tunes, and said everything will be left up to the “Glee” guys. “I’m not [singing Justin Bieber], but the boys are,” Michele dished. While Michele was short on “Glee” details, show co-creator Ryan Murphy recently revealed how Bieber would fit into in the hit series, batting away rumors that an all-Bieber episode was in the works. “Those [tributes] are reserved for artists with big catalogs,” Murphy explained of why they won’t dedicate an entire episode to the teen sensation’s smashes. “Bieber comes up in episode 13 as a small plot point. Sam [Chord Overstreet] sings a JB song to win Quinn’s [Dianna Agron] approval. Are you excited to catch Justin Bieber’s music and Gwyneth Paltrow’s return on “Glee”? Let us know in the comments! Zac Efron Talks About Bulking Up For ‘The Lucky One’

‘I really wanted to put in the work,’ he tells MTV News on the Golden Globes red carpet. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Zac Efron Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images We’re sure fans of Zac Efron won’t mind seeing him all muscled up for his next film, “The Lucky One,” based on the Nicholas Sparks book of the same name. Not only did Efron get buffed up for the role , but he also shaved off his signature locks to play a marine who, after three tours in Iraq, returns home to North Carolina to look for the unknown woman he believes was his good-luck charm while he was fighting in the war abroad. “It was hard, man,” Efron recalled about his training for the film when he spoke to MTV News on the Golden Globes red carpet Sunday night (January 16). “I knew that the second I went to Camp Pendleton and met these real marines, I didn’t have that presence.” So what kind of presence did Efron have to achieve in order to play Logan Thibault in the Scott Hicks-directed film, set for 2012 release? “They’ve got this way about them, but they’re, like, 50 pounds heavier, so I started training immediately to do the best I could,” he explained. ” ‘Cause it’s a kind of sensitive part. I care too much about it to let it slide. I really wanted to put in the work.” The film follows in the more serious direction Efron has been taking in his roles as of late. Last year, he starred in “Charlie St. Cloud,” but he will return to the world of romantic comedies when he stars in the ensemble rom-com “New Year’s Eve” in December. New Study Says Honey Buns Keep Inmates From Wilin’ Out

Apparently, Honey Buns has outpaced Newports as the number one item of trade in the slammer. A new study released by the St. Petersburg Times in Florida says a sweet sticky treat has become the currency of choice for inmates in the Florida penal system. “According to the St. Petersburg Times, Honey buns sell better than “tobacco, envelopes and cans of Coke” across Florida prisons, where 270,000 of the gross little things get sold every month. Mrs. Freshley’s Grand Honey Buns appear to be the brand of choice when inmates want to get haircuts, drugs, or even barter for muscle to protect their own ‘honey buns’ while doing their bid. Apparently, inmates trade the tasty treats and have come up with some inventive ways to use the prison pastry. * Inmates in North Carolina used honey buns to “sweeten a wine they fermented from orange juice.” * An unemployed father who was saved from the electric chair by public defenders paid his lawyers in honey buns. (The lawyer says: “They were good, too.”) * In at least two cases, inmates have reportedly been murdered over honey buns. * A Florida bail bondsman was purportedly paying an inmate in honey buns for business referrals. * “At the Stock Island Detention Center, outside Key West, scheming inmates offered overnight arrestees in the jail’s drunk tank an irresistible deal: their Social Security numbers for a honey bun. Using the numbers, they filled out tax forms with phony information a scam that cost the IRS more than $1 million in fraudulent refunds.” How sweetly ironic. Some of the nations most hardened criminals are gnoshing on honey buns over fermented wine. Pinkys up ladies. Source

Poll: Obama Beats Any Republican in 2012

His party got hammered in the midterm election, he's taking heat for compromising with Republicans on taxes and his approval levels are hovering around 45 percent, but a new survey concludes President Obama's prospects for re-election in 2012 are fairly strong. The Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll out Thursday finds while only 42 percent of respondents say they'd probably vote for the president if he runs again, just 39 percent say they'd vote for a Republican. Ten percent say it depends who the GOP opponent is. But when you put a Republican name into the equation, the numbers change — in favor of Obama. The president leads former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney 47 to 40 percent. Sen. John Thune of South Dakota trails by 20 points, 47 to 27 percent. The president leads former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin 55 to 33 percent. NBC says that 22 percent spread is “an indication that the former Republican vice presidential nominee remains a polarizing figure who actually wins support for Mr. Obama.” The survey finds that nearly three-quarters of Americans personally like the president, even if they don't agree with his stands on the issues. Democratic pollster Peter Hart tells NBC the White House can see this poll as a pretty good review at the half-way point of his first term. “From my point of view, this poll is anything but a lump of coal in the president's Christmas stocking,” said Hart, who conducted the survey with Republican pollster Bill McInturff. “But there is a lot of work to be done.” McInturff concludes Obama “retains very strong numbers with a political core constituency.” Another poll out Thursday gauged Obama's re-election chances in eight swing states, most of which he won in 2008: Montana, Virginia, North Carolina, Missouri, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Ohio. The Public Policy Polling survey found the president's chances remain good in each state, with Romney the potential candidate who could put up the best fight for Republicans. added by: TimALoftis

Elizabeth Edwards Passes Away at 61

Elizabeth Edwards, a lawyer, best-selling author, mother of three and the wife of two-time presidential candidate John Edwards, died in her North Carolina home. She was 61. Just days after doctors advised her to suspend her cancer treatment , Elizabeth tragically succumbed after battling the disease for over six years. Elizabeth Edwards was surrounded by friends and family in her last days, including John himself. She and John were estranged following the Rielle Hunter scandal. R.I.P. Elizabeth Edwards (1949-2010). Monday, Elizabeth posted what read like a farewell message on her Facebook page reading, “The days of our lives, for all of us, are numbered. We know that.” “And yes, there are certainly times when we aren’t able to muster as much strength and patience as we would like. It’s called being human,”she added. “But I have found that in the simple act of living with hope, and in the daily effort to have a positive impact in the world, the days I do have are made all the more meaningful and precious. And for that, I am grateful.” Elizabeth is survived by a grown daughter, Cate, and two young children, Jack and Emma. Her son Wade died in a car accident at age 16 back in 1996. A graduate of the University of North Carolina Law School, she was her famous husband’s intellectual equal, his chief ideologue and most of all, his rock. Edwards helped remake the role of the political spouse in this era. She was the driving force behind her husband’s rise to the Democratic political elite. As strategist, campaign manager, surrogate and public interpreter for her husband, she earned a nation’s respect – but that respect grew in recent years. John Edwards’ career unraveled as quickly and shockingly after he fathered a love child with Hunter, then lied and possibly illegally tried to cover it up. But Elizabeth’s charm, intelligence and class never wavered, and her willingness to condemn John’s actions and separate from him spoke volumes. Our condolences go out to her children and loved ones.

Elizabeth Edwards Dies At 61

Wife of former presidential candidate John Edwards and best-selling author loses six-year battle with cancer. By Eric Ditzian Elizabeth Edwards Photo: Jeffrey Mayer/ WireImage Elizabeth Edwards, the wife of former presidential candidate John Edwards, died at her home in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, after a six-year fight with cancer, according to multiple reports. A best-selling author and a driving force behind her husband’s political career, Mrs. Edwards discovered she had breast cancer on Election Day in 2004, when Senator John Kerry and Mr. Edwards, his running mate, lost to President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. She underwent extensive radiation and chemotherapy, sending her cancer into temporary remission, an ordeal she detailed in her 2006 memoir, “Saving Graces: Finding Solace and Strength from Friends and Strangers.” Using his wife’s cancer as a driving force (the disease returned in 2007), heath care reform became a central platform for Mr. Edwards’ second presidential bid. But shortly after his defeat in the Democratic primaries, Mr. Edwards admitted that he had carried on an extramarital affair with a campaign worker, though he insisted the relationship took place during his wife’s remission. “Although John believes he should stand alone and take the consequences of his action now, when the door closes behind him, he has his family waiting for him,” Mrs. Edwards said in a statement at the time. She’d go on to address the affair in a second memoir, “Resilience: Reflections on the Burdens and Gifts of Facing Life’s Adversities.” Mr. Edwards would later admit he fathered a child with the campaign worker, Rielle Hunter, and Mr. and Mrs. Edwards became legally separated in January. A graduate of the University of North Carolina Law School, Mrs. Edwards practiced law for many years and raised two children with her husband. In 1996, her 16-year-old son was killed in a car accident, a tragedy that spurred Mr. Edwards’ decision to run for the Senate in 1998. When Mrs. Edwards’ cancer returned in 2004, it was said to be malignant, to have spread to her bones, lungs and lymph nodes, and to be treatable but not curable. Just days ago, the Edwards family announced that the cancer had spread to her liver and that she had stopped all treatment. She was released from the hospital and returned home, where her family, including her husband, was said to be by her side. Share your thoughts for the Edwards family in the comments.
