North Dakota lawmakers sent their state’s Republican governor a pair of anti-abortion bills yesterday, both of which would impose the strictest ban on this practice of any state in the country. One proposal would make the procedure illegal as early as six weeks into a pregnancy, while the other would prohibiting women from having an abortion because a fetus has a genetic defect, such as Down Syndrome. While pro-choice advocates say they will protest these measures if they pass, supporters of the bills make it clear that their goal is to challenge the 1973 Supreme Court ruling of Roe v. Wade. Rep. Bette Grande introduced the bills and said the state’s budget never crossed the mind of her or anyone on her side. “I don’t look at it from the financial side of things,” Grande told The Associated Press on Friday. “I look at it from the life side of things.” The measures now go into Governor Jack Dalrymple’s hands, with The American Civil Liberties Union referring to them as “extreme” and noting that many women don’t realize they’re even pregnant until after six weeks. “In America, no woman, no matter where she lives, should be denied the ability to make this deeply personal decision,” ACLU executive director Anthony Romero said in a statement.
Red River High School administrators are looking into a photo posted to Twitter from Friday’s state semifinal hockey game in North Dakota that clearly shows a trio of students donning Ku Klux Klan-like robes and hoods. Shane Schuster snapped the picture (above) sand he was “shocked’ at the sight, adding that the fans wore the outfits for about 10-20 minutes. Said Mark Rerick, the Grand Forks Public Schools’ athletics director, after learning of the incident: “After confirming the incident, we notified the administrators at Red River High School who immediately began their investigation. To the best of my knowledge, the students have been identified by the Red River administrators who are continuing their investigation.” Fans at the game were encouraged to dress in white as part of the team’s “whiteout,” but we somehow doubt the school had such outfits in mind. This is the second KKK-related high school scandal of the last few weeks, as students also sported KKK robes in a history class last month in Las Vegas.

North Dakota Man Stabs 3 Man Sex Partner When He Doesn’t Want To Switch Positions Via TheSmokingGun A 3-man chop down went horribly wrong last Friday when a North Dakota man stabbed another male participant when he refused to switch positions during the tryst, according to court records. Ashley Hunter, 33, was charged this week with felony aggravated assault for allegedly stabbing Orlando DeWitt, 37, in the arm during the bizarre February 8 encounter. Hunter is pictured in the adjacent mug shot. Cops report that Hunter and DeWitt–who met in prison–had been partying with several female acquaintances Friday night at a Fargo bar when they returned to Hunter’s residence (after a 2:30 AM McDonald’s pit stop). DeWitt told police that he “began kissing on the couch” with one of the women, named Leticia. Soon, they were “under the covers and they had their pants off,” which led, of course, to the new couple having sex. DeWitt added that he twice caught Hunter watching the living room action from his adjacent bedroom. At one point, DeWitt reported, Hunter “came out of the bedroom and began kissing on Leticia’s breasts.” In short order, Leticia “began to perform brains on Hunter.” It appears that DeWitt was continuing to have sex with Leticia while she was performing double duty. At this point things went all bad. “Hunter then asked to switch places with Orlando,” according to a Fargo Police Department report. “Orlando told him no and Hunter became upset.” During the ensuing argument, DeWitt called Hunter a “f***ing retard,” which infuriated Hunter. He yelled at DeWitt and ordered him to leave the residence. DeWitt, seen at left, recalled that Hunter–who threatened to “f**k him up” and “kill him”–reached into the couch and retrieved a 12-inch butcher knife. DeWitt and Leticia, both nekkid, fled to a bathroom. Hunter, knife in hand, subsequently forced his way into the bathroom and continued to threaten DeWitt. “Orlando said he decided to run for the front door,” police reported. The nude DeWitt reached the home’s first door, but as he “went to open the exterior door he felt the knife cutting the back of his left arm.” While fleeing the home, DeWitt, who was not seriously injured, grabbed Leticia’s phone, which he used to call 911 from a nearby alley. Charged Monday with DeWitt’s stabbing, Hunter was booked into the Cass County jail in lieu of $5000 bail. We’ve heard the phrase “pu$$y kills” but cotdamn. A Chicago man recently paid $10,000 for a 20-year-old bottle of ‘McJordan’ BBQ sauce. via The Grio A man who used to own McDonald’s restaurants in North Dakota is about $10,000 richer after selling a 20-year-old container of McJordan barbecue sauce to a buyer in Chicago. The sauce was used on McJordan Burgers, named for basketball icon Michael Jordan. The promotional item was sold in limited markets for a short time in the 1990s, when Jordan led the Chicago Bulls to six NBA championships. Mort Bank, of Bismarck, saved the gallon jug of sauce after selling his McDonald’s restaurants in Bismarck-Mandan and Minot in 1996. “It was in my basement and I would look at it occasionally,” he told The Bismarck Tribune. “I thought it would be worth something someday.” Bank advertised the sauce on eBay, saying: “A once in a lifetime chance to own the rarest of rare Michael Jordan and McDonald’s collectible!” It sold for $9,995 to a buyer from Chicago whom Bank has not identified. 911 is a joke North Dakota Police Officer Keeps Job After Several Accounts Of Misconduct A Fargo police officer disciplined for having sex in his police car in 2002 has now been disciplined for leaving his police car unlocked, leading to the theft of police equipment. In the latest incident, officer Bret Witte left an unmarked police vehicle unlocked in his driveway on April 11 and someone stole several items from it, said Fargo police Lt. Joel Vettel. The items included several pairs of handcuffs, a bulletproof vest, a handheld radio, a Taser, two loaded ammunition clips for a handgun and a knife, Vettel said. One set of handcuffs was recovered the next day in Moorhead after a man called dispatchers to say he needed help getting out of them, according to a search warrant filed in Clay County District Court. Ohhh but wait, it gets better… Vettel said Witte received a letter of reprimand for leaving valuable items in a car and leaving the car unlocked, something he said police often warn the public not to do. In the 2002 incident, Witte lost 15 days without pay after admitting to supervisors he had sexual relations in his squad car with an 18-year-old woman he was dating at the time. The same woman was arrested in 2004 as part of a Fargo prostitution sting and later convicted. Vettel confirmed Monday that Witte also was involved in an incident in which he tried to use a Taser on a driver who was leaving the scene of a traffic stop. It was determined that the use of force fell outside of department policy, Vettel said. He said Witte’s latest disciplinary action would have taken into account Witte’s past performance. “We look at not only the situation at hand, but also the totality of his entire career and work history,” Vettel said, adding that the decision would also have been based in part on the type of discipline other officers received for similar incidents. “Serve and protect” huh? Genetically-modified canola has been breeding undetected in the American wilds for at least “several generations,” say scientists. The escaped GM canola has already mutated into a never-before-seen strain, and now it may be modifying other plants too. Canola is a yellow flowering plant that is used to make oil. Researchers working in North Dakota, found strains of transgenic canola growing wild on roadsides far from local farms – meaning the GM plants had spread quite far. They found two strains of transgenic canola. According to Nature: “The extent of the escape is unprecedented,” says Cynthia Sagers, an ecologist at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, who led the research team that found the canola (Brassica napus, also known as rapeseed). Sagers and her team found two varieties of transgenic canola in the wild – one modified to be resistant to Monsanto's Roundup herbicide (glyphosate), and one resistant to Bayer Crop Science's Liberty herbicide (gluphosinate). They also found some plants that were resistant to both herbicides, showing that the different GM plants had bred to produce a plant with a new trait that did not exist anywhere else. Sagers says the previous discoveries in other countries of transgenic canola populations growing outside of cultivation were often in or near fields used for commercial transgenic canola production. The USDA announced plans yesterday to allocate $11 million of its budget to efforts this summer to control the spread of native grasshoppers throughout eleven western states. That money will go towards protecting four million acres of farmland, based on high estimates of grasshopper breeding going into this summer. These expectations are based on 2009 surveys of grasshopper populations. The states most at risk are Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming; Idaho, Nevada and Utah are also at risk.
