Sarah Palin: “We Gotta Stand With Our North Korean Allies”

Sarah Palin’s choosing sides in the conflict between North and South Korea–and picking Kim Jong Il? Couldn’t be. But there she is on Glenn Beck’s radio show saying just that: “This speaks to a bigger picture here that certainly scares me in terms of our national security policy. But obviously we’ve gotta stand with our North Korean allies.” The host helpfully corrects her, “South Korean allies.” The scrambled tongue moment–as that’s surely what Palin will say it was–does bring up a charge made in John Heilemann and Mark Halperin’s book, Game Change, which portrays Palin as dangerously uninformed–a candidate for the vice presidency who didn’t understand that Korea was divided: She knew nothing. She had to be taken through World War I, World War II, the Cold War, and Palin was not aware there was a difference between North and South Korea. She continued to insist that Iraq was behind 9/11; and when her son was being sent off to Iraq, she couldn’t describe who we were fighting. Now, in fairness to Sarah Palin, she’s got a lot on her plate right now–a book tour, a reality show, and a daughter who landed in third place on Dancing with the Stars–so remembering arcane international details like which country has a lunatic dictator with nuclear weapons and which one has American troops can be difficult. Maybe it’s time to make some notes on her palm? added by: TimALoftis

George Lopez Cracks Sarah Palin is ‘Evil Egomaniac That Might Destroy the World’

On Thursday’s Lopez Tonight on TBS, during a segment featuring photographs of public figures wearing similar clothing called “Who Wore it Better?” comedian George Lopez cracked that Sarah Palin was “an evil egomaniac that might destroy the world” as an image of her was shown next to a picture of North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il. Guest and fashion guru Tim Gunn took part in the segment as the two poked fun at Palin’s outfit supposedly resembling that of the communist despot. Lopez joked, “For people who don’t know, one is an evil egomaniac that might destroy the world, and the other one is Kim Jong Il,” inspiring Gunn to respond, “I love you for that.” Below is a transcript of the relevant portion of the Thursday, September 16, Lopez Tonight on TBS: GEORGE LOPEZ: Let’s take a look at the next one. Who do you think wore this jacket- TIM GUNN, FASHION GURU: Well. LOPEZ: -Sarah Palin or Kim Jong Il? GUNN: I vote for Kim Jong Il. And I fully suspect that Sarah Palin got that jacket when she was in North Korea going to the North Korean H&M. So, Kim Jong Il. LOPEZ: For people who don’t know, one is an evil egomaniac that might destroy the world, and the other one is Kim Jong Il. GUNN: I love you for that.

U.S. Boy, 13, Travels to Pitch Peace Plan to Kim Jong Il | TakePart – Inspiration to Action

A 13-year-old American boy intends to share his ideas for helping children and bringing peace to North Korea with that country's leader, Kim Jong Il. Born in South Korea and raised in Mississippi, John Lee is proposing a “Children's Peace Forest” in the dangerous demilitarized zone dividing North and South Korea. The demilitarized zone is one of the most heavily guarded borders in the world. John Lee's mission, he told the Associated Press, is “Above politics, above borders, above conflicts, above idealogy. It's about giving hope to the people and children all over the world.” Wanting to help the environment and people at the same time, Lee's peace forest would be “one in which fruit and chestnut trees would be planted and where children can play.” The teen's parents were a little shocked when they first heard of his desire to travel to North Korea. Having grown up in South Korea, his father is aware of the danger. When he was young, he was told not to associate with people from North Korea. Despite his parents' hesitation, John's persistence and passion convinced them to travel to a country that the U.S. has—at best—strained relations with. Given permission to visit by the North Korean ambassador to the United Nations, Lee and his family are expected to fly Thursday from Beijing to the North Korean capital, Pyongyang. If a meeting with North Korean officials doesn't happen, or if he never gives his letter to Kim Jong Il, this brave teen has still done something extraordinary. added by: toyotabedzrock

N.Korea seeks $75 Trillion from U.S.

Cash-strapped North Korea has demanded the United States pay almost $US65 trillion ($75 trillion) in compensation for six decades of hostility. The official North Korean news agency, KCNA, says the cost of the damage done by the US since the peninsula was divided in 1945 is estimated at $US64.96 trillion. The compensation call comes on the eve of the 60th anniversary of the start of the 1950-1953 Korean War. KCNA said the figure includes $US26.1 trillion arising from US “atrocities” which left more than 5 million North Koreans dead, wounded, kidnapped or missing. The agency also claims 60 years of US sanctions have caused a loss of $US13.7 trillion by 2005, while property losses were estimated at $US16.7 trillion. The agency said North Koreans have “the justifiable right” to receive the compensation for their blood. It said the committee's calculation did not include the damage North Korea had suffered from sanctions after its first nuclear test in 2006. North Korea to reopen border with South Korea

SEOUL, South Korea (Associated Press) – North Korea agreed Monday to lift border restrictions with South Korea to allow reunions of separated families and restart stalled tourism ventures in its latest gesture of conciliation toward Seoul after nearly 18 months of rising tensions. The North, however, said in a separate statement it was putting its army on “special alert” because of South Korea's joint military drills with the United States this week, a sign that tension between the rival countries is still running high.
