John Hughes , director of generation-defining class conscious teen comedies, is dead of a heart attack , at age 59. Hughes wrote, directed, or produced some of the most beloved and influential films of the 1980s, from National Lampoon’s Vacation through Planes, Trains, & Automobiles.

Laura Ling and Euna Lee are safely back on US soil after being set free in North Korea yesterday. Laura Ling said during a press conference this morning that she’s happy to be home and free. “Thirty hours ago,” she said, fighting back tears as she spoke in a California airplane hangar, “Euna Lee and I were prisoners in North Korea
