Wissam Al Mana, Janet Jackson Husband, Accused of Firing Employee For Rape Complaint

Wissam Al Mana, the Qatari billionaire who married Janet Jackson earlier this year, is being accused of firing a female employee for reporting rape. Marte Deborah Dalelv says she was axed by his interior design company, Al Mana Interiors, after reporting being raped on a business trip to Dubai. Wissam Al Mana ‘s company denied this allegation in a statement: “Only when Ms. Dalelv declined to have positive, constructive discussions about her status, and ceased communication with her employer, was the company forced to end our relationship with her.” “The decision had nothing to do with the rape allegation, and unfortunately neither Ms. Dalelv nor her attorneys have chosen to contact the company to discuss her employment status.” However, an alleged copy of the letter Dalelv received informing her of her termination by the company says she was fired for her own improper conduct. And then there’s this fact: Dalelv has been sentenced to 16 months in prison in Dubai on charges of unlawful sex, making a false statement and illegal consumption of alcohol. According to Al Mana’s former employee, a male colleague “dragged” her by her purse into his hotel room after offering to escort her back to hers. She woke up some time later being raped with her clothes off, she says. Later, when she could escape, Dalelv called the cops, who asked her: “Are you sure you called the police because you just didn’t like it?” Dalelv claims she was given a medical exam, but then was put in jail for four days with no explanation as to why before eventually being released. She was charged with sex outside marriage and public consumption of alcohol, both of which are against the law in the United Arab Emirates (seriously). Dalelv is not married, but sex outside marriage is still illegal. She says that subsequently, her manager from Al Mana’s company told her to say the sex was voluntary and then the whole issue would go away. Dalelv took the advice at one of the hearings, saying the sex was voluntary … and then she says she was charged with making a false statement. “That was my biggest regret,” she tells CNN of that move. “It wasn’t voluntary. I just thought it would all go away.” A rep for Al Mana Interiors tells CNN that she was not advised by her manager to say that the sex was consensual but rather by a police officer. Dalelv says that a month after the rape, while she has been forced to stay in Dubai at the Norwegian embassy, she was fired from Al Mana Interiors. She is now appealing her 16 month sentence. The perpetrator, a married Sudanese man, was charged with public intoxication and having sex outside of marriage and was sentenced to 13 months.

Edward Snowden Nominated For Nobel Peace Prize: Hero or Traitor?

A Swedish sociology professor has nominated NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden for the 2013 Nobel Peace Prize, according to reports. In his letter addressed to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Stefan Svallfors praised Snowden for his “heroic effort at great personal cost.” He stated that by revealing U.S. surveillance programs, Snowden showed “individuals can stand up for fundamental rights and freedoms.” Citing the Nuremberg trials of 1945, Svallfors notes that “‘I was just following orders’ is never an excuse for acts contrary to human rights and freedoms.” He also says Snowden “save the prize from the disrepute incurred by the hasty, ill-conceived decision” to give the 2009 award to Barack Obama. The head of the International Committee of the Russian State, Duma Aleksey Pushkov, says the U.S. won’t let Nobel Peace Prize go to Snowden. Nevertheless, his mere nomination speaks volumes, he says: “Not in a million years will the U.S. allow Snowden to get the Peace Prize. But his nomination is significant. Many in the West see him as a champion of democracy.” The Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded since 1901 to individuals who “shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations.” The list of criteria also includes working toward “abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.” Edward Snowden isn’t be the first Nobel nominee of his kind. Just last year, Bradley Manning , the U.S. soldier accused of passing secret materials to WikiLeaks, was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. In 2011, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was nominated. Snowden’s nomination is expected to be reviewed by the committee for next year’s prize. The 30-year-old nominee is wanted in the U.S. on espionage charges. He fled American soil for Hong Kong in May and then flew to Moscow, Russia, where he has been stuck in an airport transit zone for three weeks. On Friday, he said he is seeking political asylum in Russia because he cannot fly to Latin America, where he previously sought protection. Edward Snowden : Hero Traitor View Poll »

Hallelujerrrr: Study Shows That Churchgoers Have Lower Blood Pressure

Get ya praise on and get healthy! A new study is saying that people who attend and participate in church frequently are also more likely to have lower blood pressure than those who do not. The study, “The Relationship Between Religious Attendance and Blood Pressure: The Hunt Study,” was conducted by researchers from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. “It is a lot more complex of a relationship than simply going to church and your blood pressure decreasing,” insists co-author Dr. Harold G. Koenig. “If going to church leads you to a deeper relationship with God, as a result a deeper sense of peace and a more loving relationship with your neighbor, then it could indeed affect blood pressure.” Critics (and atheists) however aren’t buying it. “Of course, when people regularly participate in a community, be it church, synagogue, or an atheist club, they are going to be healthier because they have more human interaction and a social support network,” says American Humanist Association executive director of the Roy Speckhardt to the Christian Post. “To measure whether or not churches provide a benefit that atheist clubs do not, a study would have to compare attendance to both instead of just looking at frequency of church attendance.” Authors of the study want to expand their research into other religions including Islam and Judaism. It looks like you may want to hit up that praise house and get your health together. Of course, there’s no exactly link between the two, but it can’t hurt, right? We thought so. Source

Lars Von Trier Upset Norway Mass Murderer Loved Dogville

“I feel badly about thinking that Dogville , which in my eyes is one of my most successful films, should have been a kind of script for him. It’s horrific,” director Lars von Trier said about the fact that Dogville was revealed to be one of Norwegian camp killer Anders Behring Breivik’s favorite films. “[I]f it was an inspiration, I’m sorry that I made it. But of course I have educational purposes with my films, even if I hesitate to admit it, and my views are the complete opposite of Breivik and his deeds.” Dogville ends with Nicole Kidman’s character ordering the massacre of the village that abused her.
