Diabetes Has Become Epidemic in China

As of this time, 1 out of 10 Adult Chinese is diabetic and most of them are undiagnosed according to research. About 90 million of them are diabetic. This number is far greater than India’s. There has been tests showing that more then 92 million adults has it and an estimate of 150 million is already showing early symptoms. Diabetes symptoms are the 3P’s in medical terms. One is Polyphagia or excessive hunger, another of Polyurnia or frequent urination and the last one is Polydipsia or excessive thirst. This could have been a result of China’s growth in the past 10 years. Lifestyles became sedentary and there has been an increase in urbanization. Unlike before, China has already a lot of food to eat, warm clothings and has less exercise because of the comfort that they are already experiencing. The sharp rise in syphilis cases in Teesside has been partially attributed to social networking sites which incautious locals are trawling in search of casual sex. According to the local Evening Gazette, the number of reported cases jumped to 30 last year, up from less than 10 in 2008. Professor Peter Kelly, executive director of public health for NHS Tees, said that “reports from doctors and nurses diagnosing and treating patients suggest some sufferers are using social networking sites to find and arrange meetings with new lovers”. He added: “Unprotected sex, especially with casual partners, is the biggest risk for syphilis. Social networking sites are making it easier for people to meet up for casual sex. Lower seeded teams are building up the confidence after grabbing consecutive wins against top seeded teams. St. Mary’s showed an outstanding performance after defeating the 2nd seeded Villanova Wildcats with a score of 75-68 while the lower seeded Northern Iowa showed great team spirit and determination to pull off an upset against the number one seeded Kansas Jayhawks.
