Willem Dafoe Joins Lars Von Trier’s Nymphomaniac; Nicole Kidman Heads Out

Charlotte Gainsbourg and Willem Dafoe played a crazily estranged couple in Lars von Trier ‘s erotic/thriller/surreal Antichrist in 2009. And now, Dafoe is set to return to Von Trier’s latest, Nymphomaniac along with Gainsbourg, Shia LaBeouf , Christian Slater , Stellan Skarsgard and Uma Thurman . Others are joining the cast, while one big name has pulled out. Nicole Kidman had been rumored as another possible addition to the cast, but she has more regal obligations and cannot join, according to THR. Kidman, who played the lead role in von Trier’s Dogville is currently busy playing Grace Kelly in Olivier Dahan’s Grace of Monaco . Dafoe, meanwhile, will play a supporting role in the two-part erotic Nymphomaniac , which will be released in both a hardcore and soft core version. Dafoe is currently in Hamburg, starring in Anton Corbijn’s drama A Most Wanted Man . Von Trier veteran Udo Kier, who has taken part in a number of von Trier’s films including his most recent Melancholia has also joined the cast along with French actor Jean-Marc Barr ( Dogville ), Caroline Goodall ( Schindler’s List ), Kate Ashfield ( Shaun of the Dead ), Saskia Reeves ( Butterfly Kiss ) and Danish actor Omar Shargawi ( R ). In the film, Gainsbourg stars as Jo, a self-described nymphomaniac who reveals her story to an older bachelor played by Stellan Skarsgard. Rumors have flown over the summer whether named actors would take part in sexually explicit scenes, though porn-star “stand-ins” have also been rumored to be engaged on camera. Shia LaBeouf fueled the rumor when he said he was ready to “go all the way” in Nymphomaniac . [ Source: THR ]

Stellan Skarsgard Gives a Little Nymphomaniac Tease

Swedish-born actor Stellan Skarsgard has run a wide gamut of film roles in his career. His blockbuster fare includes roles in Marvel’s The Avengers and last year’s Thor . He appeared in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo , Mamma Mia as well as artier titles like A Somewhat Gentle Man (2010) and fellow Scandinavian Lars von Trier’s Melancholia (2011), Dogville (2003) and Dancer in the Dark (2000). One of his next projects is the controversial filmmaker’s next two films, which have already titillated fans of the enigmatic Danish director. Skarsgard gave a bit of insight about the back to back projects, The Nymphomaniac and The Nymphomaniac Part 2 , which, perhaps unsurprisingly, promise to live up to their titles. Skarsgard will star opposite Charlotte Gainsbourg in what the actor recently joked is “the porno we’re doing…” The films are described as a “light and poetic story” of a woman’s erotic journey from birth to the age of 50 as told via the main character who is a self-diagnosed nymphomaniac. Initially, the “erotic journey” part of the story was allegedly being fulfilled by porn-star stand-ins, but Skarsgard left unclear who was doing what, though apparently there will be no shortage of carnal delights for von Trier fans to indulge in. He told Sabotage Times, “I pick up Charlotte Gainsbourg’s character on the street and take her back to my apartment, and over two movies we talk about her time as a nymphomaniac.” He added, “There’s a lot of fucking in it. A lot of fucking in it.” The 61 year-old actor, who will also appear in Thor 2 , which will be out next year said he feels “at home” in both big budget movies as well as micro-budget independents. “I’m at home everywhere. If I’ve been doing a small, shoestring budget art-house film that’s very dark and that nobody will see, but that’s very good, it’s nice to go and do something fluffier. I’m extremely privileged in that I manage to enjoy myself all the time with very different materials.” [Source: Sabotage Times via Contactmusic ]

Lars Von Trier’s Nymphomaniac to Be Released in Two Parts

And Charlotte Gainsbourg will show at least three of them. Because “the erotic life of a woman from the age of zero to age 50” is just too good to contain in one two-hour movie, producer Peter Aalb

Kirsten Dunst on Her Nude Scenes in Melancholia: "Yes, I Do Have Big Boobs"

Danish director Lars von Trier is known for being an, ahem, rather unpleasant man- he refuses to fly, he psychologically tortures his leading ladies ( Nicole Kidman famously once asked him why he hates women), and recently he was banned from the Cannes Film Festival for saying he “understood” Hitler. But you gotta give the man one thing- he finally got Kirsten Dunst to bare her Kirsten cunst. We reported earlier this year that Dunst makes her full-frontal debut in Von Trier’s latest gloom-and-doom masterpiece, Melancholia – you can even catch a faraway glimpse of her totally nude and lying on a rock in the film’s trailer (seen at left). In advance of Melancholia ‘s stateside debut, Kirsten was interviewed by Elle magazine about her experiences filming the movie. Snatchurally, the subject of nudes came up: One of the surprises about Melancholia is Kirsten’s curvaceous body. She is naked in several scenes and as Von Trier refuses any form of retouching or airbrushing, surely it caused some anxiety? ‘I trusted everyone and the lighting was beautiful. I didn’t work out beforehand, it was all very natural. I don’t have any real body issues. I never really overeat, I shed weight in the summer, put it on in the winter and yes, I do have big boobs. People don’t realize because I cover up a lot, but they are there. Big boobs.’ Oh, we’ve realized for years, Kirsten- ever since that skintillating nip slip of yours in Crazy/Beautiful (2001). In other Von Trier nudes, the director has just announced his next project, the titillatingly titled Nymphomaniac . The movie will depict “the sexual evolution of a woman from birth to age 50″, and the always-tactful Dane has already confirmed that “As a cultural radical I can’t make a film about the sexual evolution of a woman from zero to 50 without showing penetration.” Oh, Lars. You’re a kook, but you’re our kind of kook.
