Rick Santorum Slams Muslims For Being Violent During his speech on Friday at the Values Voter Summit, former Senator and Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum claimed that “the West” was in an “existential fight” against the forces of “radical Islam.” Via Raw Story reports: Unlike fellow Values Voter Summit speaker Michele Bachmann (R) — who urged President Barack Obama to go to war with all of Islam — Santorum limited his criticism to those Muslims who were rightly hesitant about modernity. Still, he noted, there is “a fundamental foundational problem in Islam of embracing issues of freedom of conscience and religious persecution.” “Christendom [once] expanded by the sword, that doesn’t happen anymore,” he continued, but “you don’t have any Baptist ministers going on jihad.” “The Western world,” Santorum said, “has come to terms with religious liberty, freedom of conscience, and that persuasion is the way to spread the faith.” But the president and those who believe that not all Muslims are fundamentalists were not Santorum’s only targets. He also called out Kentucky Senator Rand Paul (R) in all but name, saying. that “clearly, there are people out there who are trying to advocate for us to take a more limited view of what our role should be internationally, both from the standpoint of our engagement in foreign policy as well as our military strength.” However, he added, “there is a difference between limited government and small government. I believe in limited government. I believe in small government in some areas but I don’t believe in small government in every area. There are some areas the government needs to be big and robust and one of them is defense.” Santorum finished fourth in the Values Voter Summit presidential straw poll, behind Texas Senator Ted Cruz, neurosurgeon and Fox regular Ben Carson, and former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee. Move them stamps ! Ohio Man Arrested For Selling Food Stamps On Facebook A man trying to sell his girlfriend’s food stamp card on Facebook now faces a felony charge. Via Journal News reports: Police said Derron Chamberlain posted on the social media site that he was selling his girlfriend’s food stamp card for $100. He also included his phone number for potential buyers to contact him, police said. “He did put his real information while he was doing this illegal act for everybody to see,” said Middletown Police Lt. Scott Reeve. Chamberlain, 35, of Plymouth Avenue, was excited, police said, when officers from the police department’s Special Operations Unit contacted him acting as potential buyers. “He kept calling back to the detectives to a point where they thought it was humorous how much he was calling back trying to make a deal happen,” Reeve said. About six hours after detectives called Chamberlain, they met him at Goldman Park, 1400 Highland St. Police said Chamberlain did not resist arrest and is charged with trafficking food stamps, a fifth-degree felony. “He didn’t realize he had done anything wrong,” Reeve said. “Even when they brought him into the police department and talked to him he was still surprised to find out it was illegal for him to sell his girlfriend’s food stamp card.” About $6.6 million is distributed monthly in Butler County via the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, commonly known as food stamps. While benefits fraud is not a new crime, the lingering dismal economy and drug abuse, particularly heroin, has turned it into an epidemic, Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones told the Journal-News in January. The U.S. Department of Agriculture has said that food stamp fraud totals $750 million each year. An investigation launched from suspicion that Butler County’s skyrocketing food assistance dollars may be attributed in part to fraud, abuse and misuse has resulted in the arrest of hundreds and a taxpayer savings of $5.2 million since July 2012, the Journal-News reported earlier this year. The operation, manned by two Butler County sheriff’s detectives with help of state and federal agencies including the Secret Service and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, netted 116 violators between July 2012 and June 2013 and 100 from July to December 2013. Why aren’t Black men keeping up academically?? Black Men Are Less Likely To Graduate From A Four-Year College Via Black Journal reports: The federal government should require all colleges to create early-alert systems that flag students with low test scores, missing assignments, or spotty attendance. That would be one way, according to a report released on Tuesday, to curb the alarming number of minority men who drop out of college . The report, “ Advancing the Success of Boys and Men of Color in Education ,” is the result of brainstorming by diversity researchers at seven higher-education institutions. It is aimed at building on the momentum of My Brother’s Keeper, the Obama administration’s effort to improve education and career outcomes for young minority men. Black men lag behind their peers in other races when it comes to graduating from both two- and four-year colleges, according to federal statistics that track their completion through 2009 and 2012, respectively. Only a third of black male students graduated from four-year colleges within six years, compared with 45 percent of Hispanic men, 57 percent of white men, and 64 percent of Asian men. For two-year colleges, the percentages who received a certificate or degree or who transferred to a four-year college over six years were 32 for black, 30 for Latino, 40 for white, and 43 for Asian men. But minority men aren’t the only ones who would benefit from the changes the group is proposing. “We tried to provide recommendations that get at issues for boys and men of color but also address equity gaps for other disadvantaged groups,” J. Luke Wood, co-director of the Minority Male Community College Collaborative at San Diego State University, said in an interview. His center was joined in the report by similar groups at Morehouse College, Ohio State University, the University of California at Los Angeles, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Texas at Austin, and the University of Wisconsin at Madison. When will the madness end?? ISIS Terrorists Behead British Aid Worker David Cameron ISIS released video Saturday evening that shows the beheading of David Cawthorne Haines, a British aid worker. Haines’ death comes just weeks after the execution of two American captives, James Foley and Steven Sotloff . Via Gawker reports: The gruesome video, first reported by the SITE Intelligence Group, is nearly identical to those showing Foley and Sotloff’s executions. The clip begins with Haines reading a statement blaming British Prime Minister David Cameron for his death. From the video’s transcript: My name is David Cawthorne Haines. I would like to declare that I hold you, David Cameron, entirely responsible for my execution. You entered voluntarily into a coalition with the United States against the Islamic State, just as you’re predecessor, Tony Blair, did. Following a trend amongst our British Prime Ministers who can’t find the courage to say no to the Americans. Unfortunately, it is we, the British public, that will in the end pay the price for our Parliaments selfish decisions. The executioner, apparently the same man who killed Sotloff and Foley, then reads a statement, calling Cameron an “obedient lapdog” who “will only drag you and your people into another bloody and unwinnable war,” and pulls a knife to Haines’ throat. The video then fades to black, before returning to show Haines’ severed head on top of his body. The video ends with the executioner threatening to kill a second British hostage, identified as Alen Henning: “If you, Cameron, persist in fighting the Islamic State, then you, like your master Obama, will have the blood of your people on your hands.” Cameron appeared to confirm the beheading later Saturday, calling it an “act of pure evil” in a statement. Haines was captured in a small Syrian village in March 2013 while working with a French group to deliver humanitarian aid. His abduction had been a secret until the publication of Sotloff’s execution video earlier this month. Haines is survived by his wife, Dragana, and two daughters. On Friday, his family released a statement directed at ISIS. “We are the family of David Haines,” the message said. “We have sent messages to you to which we have not received a reply. We are asking those holding David to make contact with us.”
