The news became a trending topic on Twitter almost instantly, with the social-networking site’s millions of users — including celebrities — issuing countless tweets of thanks to the president. “Bravo, Mr. President, and thank you,” Neil Patrick Harris a tweeted . The actor is engaged to his longtime partner, David Burtka, and the pair adopted twins together in 2010. “Open our hearts & minds! Proud of Obama for speaking up,” wrote “Glee” actress Dianna Agron , with co-star Chris Colfer tacking his happy thoughts onto those of Ellen DeGeneres: “I second! RT @TheEllenShow: Thank you President @BarackObama for your beautiful and brave words. I’m overwhelmed.” “Star Trek” and “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol” star Simon Pegg summed things up succinctly with initials and an emoticon: “GO BO!!! :)” If there were awards handed out for the most LOL-inducing celeb tweet, that would go to “Modern Family” star Jesse Tyler Ferguson , who had a message for the first lady and his partner: “With @MichelleObama & @JustinMikita permission I would like to marry @BarackObama right now!” Even more excited was Kim Kardashian, who had way more than 140 characters to express on the subject, so she took to her website. “This is such a huge step forward in our country’s fight for civil rights and I hope that today this will give hope to so many young people across the country,” she wrote . “We’ve never had a president so supportive of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and today I am proud to be an American!! SMH: A monthly newsletter published by the Greene County Republican Committee in Virginia is raising eyebrows for including a column in its March edition that calls for an “armed revolution” if President Barack Obama is elected to a second term in November. Among articles denouncing a University of Virginia initiative to implement a living wage for employees of the institution, questioning if Obama is “America’s Most Biblically-Hostile U. S. President?” and an op-ed slamming the GOP establishment with generous use of capital letters, RightWingWatch picks out a column from the newsletter’s editor, Ponch McPhee. In it, McPhee urges readers to encourage other conservatives to vote in November. He goes on to warn that the consequences of not defeating Obama, a so-called “ideologue unlike anything world history has ever witnessed or recognized,” would be dire. “[W]e shall not have any coarse [sic] but armed revolution should we fail with the power of the vote in November,” McPhee writes. “This Republic cannot survive for 4 more years underneath this political socialist ideologue.” A disclaimer at the bottom of the publication apparently attempts to account for this type of rhetoric, noting that the contributors do “not reflect the opinion of the Republican Party whole or in part” and are only representative of the “individual” — in this case, the editor himself. Where The Wild Things Are Author Maurice Sendak Dead At 83 Maurice Sendak, author of the beloved children’s book, “Where the Wild Things Are,” has died. He was 83. Sendak’s longtime editor told the New York Times that Sendak died of complications from a stroke. The Brooklyn-born author had already written seven children’s books when, in 1963, Harper & Row published ”Where the Wild Things Are.” Sendak wrote and illustrated the unconventional story about an unruly boy named Max dressed in a wolf suit who, sent to his room by his mother as punishment for misbehaving, travels to a land of monsters and proves himself the wildest thing of all. Initially met with mixed reviews, the story quickly gained popularity and, in 1964, was awarded the Caldecott Medal, the country’s highest honor for children’s literature. Sendak is credited with injecting children’s literature with depth and psychological meaning, and his art was hailed for both its edginess and whimsy. ”Where the Wild Things Are” in particular inspired not only other writers, but also musicians and artists. An animated adaptation was created in 1973, and it was the subject of a hit film by director Spike Jonze in 2009. President Obama and his family read from ”Where the Wild Things Are” at this year’s White House Easter Egg Roll. Sendak wrote more than a dozen books in all and illustrated many more. His most recent, the picture book ”Bumble-Ardy,” was published in September. Congress and then-President Clinton presented Sendak with the National Medal of Arts in 1996. Sendak lived with his partner, Eugene Glenn, for 50 years until Glenn’s death in 2007. Sendak most recently lived in Danbury, Conn. This is truly sad news. Dania Londono Suarez Interview The 24-year-old Dania Londono Suarez appeared on Today this morning with a translator to talk about the scandal, and claimed the agent was very direct about asking for sex when they met at a Cartagena bar last month. Dania says she told him up front that a night with her would cost $800, but the next morning, after they had had sex, the agent grew “very angry” when she asked for her payment, threw $50 at her and kicked her out. Shortly thereafter, the police got involved. The agent in question has reportedly resigned amid the scandal that was embarrassed the Obama administration, though the President himself handled the whole thing fairly well in his recent White House Correspondents dinner speech .
