Savenok/Getty Images for Spotify) Troubled Rapper Fighting For His Freedom After Drug & Gun Bust At NJ Airport After nearly a month in federal lockup, Juelz Santana is finally a free man. A New Jersey federal court judge agreed to release Juelz on $500,000 bond after his mother put up her northern New Jersey house, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office told BOSSIP. Although he’s no longer in federal jail, Juelz – whose real name is Laron James – has to adhere to a slew of strict conditions or risk going back behind bars. The “There It Go” rapper is essentially on house arrest. He’s under “24 hour home confinement” and can only leave his mom’s place to go to the doctor or to attend court. Under no circumstances can he record music at his studio or perform at shows, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office told BOSSIP. It was not clear Friday when he would be released. As of 4 p.m. he was still in custody. Juelz has been locked up since last month after TSA agents found a loaded .38 caliber pistol and eight oxycodone pills in his carry on luggage. Last week, we exclusively revealed that the Essex County Prosecutors Office agreed to drop the state level drug and weapons possession charges in order to let the feds prosecute the case. As if HBCU’s didn’t have enough issues finding funds, six Howard University employees were fired last year for stealing $1 million in student financial aid. This revelation comes at particularly difficult time for the university, whose students have demanded changes at the historically Black institution. The university’s president, Wayne Frederick has been under fire for some time. Earlier this year, in the arctic blast that hit the East Coast, the university’s spring semester was delayed by damages from weather related burst pipes. And as you may remember, Howard has not been the only major HBCU with issues with their sitting president. Morehouse’s president was ultimately ousted as students demanded changes at that HBCU as well. NBC News reports: Six Howard University employees were fired last year for “gross misconduct and neglect of duties” following an independent auditor’s investigation into misappropriation of financial aid funds, according to a statement from the school’s president Wayne A.I. Frederick. The firings took place in September, 2017, and were made public Wednesday in Frederick’s statement. According to the statement, some university employees received two kinds of benefits when they were only supposed to receive one. One kind of benefit is tuition remission, which waives tuition costs for employees who are enrolled in university classes. The other benefit was a university grant. The two benefits together added up to more than the cost of attendance, which resulted in the employees receiving improper refunds. Frederick said he was first made aware of the problem in December, 2016. He later brought in an outside auditor to supplement the school’s internal investigation. Howard completed its internal investigation of “individual employee actions” in September, 2017, and said it would refer any actions for “criminal prosecution” when appropriate. The employees were not identified. The University is still working with outside experts to determine the total amount of misappropriated money during the nine-year span. The statement also lists a series of new policies and procedures as a direct result of the investigation’s findings, including the hiring of a new chief compliance officer. The announcement comes less than 24 hours after an anonymous post published on Medium alleged financial abuses at the University. NBC News was not able to independently verify the specific allegations made in the original Medium post. The post was removed from Medium Wednesday afternoon. Howard University officials tell NBC News the president’s statement Wednesday was not prompted by the Medium post. In a radio interview with HBCU Digest, Frederick said he was very “concerned” about the results of the investigation getting out because criminal charges against individuals involved are still a “possibility.” One of the employees accused, made this statement via Twitter: ABC News has received the following statement on behalf of Tyrone Hankerson Jr. pic.twitter.com/hIA8uaIlG3 — Anastasia (@AnastasiaElyseW) March 28, 2018 Tyrone Hankerson via Instagram The revelations of financial abuses comes at a particularly challenging time for the prominent HBCU and its president. Sunday night, HUResist, a student-led activist group at Howard, posted a list of nine demands ranging from better university housing accommodations to greater administration accountability. The group also called for Frederick’s “immediate resignation.” Last year, faculty leaders voted “no confidence” in Frederick — though the vote’s legitimacy has been questioned. In addition to voicing their concerns on the availability of university housing, Howard students have been critical of Frederick’s visit with the Trump administration and his handling of certain student matters. School officials tell NBC News the University plans to “exercise all options to recoup the funds” and that any money that is taken away from students is “unacceptable.” As could be expected, social media had a field day with Hankerson, one of the alleged embezzlers, to the point that “Tyrone” was a trending topic on Twitter. O n Friday, March 9, TSA at Newark Liberty International reportedly found a loaded .38-caliber handgun in Juelz Santana ‘s luggage. Once the weapon was found, the rapper allegedly fled the airport via taxi. In addition, eight oxycodone pills were allegedly found in his travel bag. After being on the run for 48 hours, he turned himself in to police. The rapper has been in jail since March 12 and he won’t be getting out anytime soon, he was denied bail. NorthJersey.com reports, “A judge ruled Monday that a proposed bail package was insufficient to allow his release on weapons and drug charges.” According to TSA regulations, bringing a weapon to an airport security checkpoint is punishable by a fine. In addition, Santana is a convicted felon, so he is possibly facing prison time . The rapper was charged with “one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and one count of carrying a weapon on an aircraft,” according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey. We hope Santana is able to resolve these issues because with the direction our criminal justice system is going now, it’s extremely dangerous for a Black man to be at the mercy of the courts. Source: ljubaphoto / Getty One Minnesota teenager didn’t even make it to the road when she took her driver’s test this past Wednesday. She did, however, manage to crash into the driver’s examination station. Before you freak out, thankfully the teenager wasn’t hurt and her 60-year-old instructor only suffered minor injuries. According to the Star Tribune , the 17-year-old was driving a 2014 Chevy Equinox and when the test started, she put the car into drive instead of reverse. She then stepped on the accelerator, causing the car to zip forward, jump the curb and plow through the examination station in a strip mall. As for the test? It’s safe to say the teen will be doing runs around a vacant lot for a long time.
As previously reported, Cynthia Nixon is running for Governor of New York. As has also been reported a long time ago, Cynthia Nixon is a lesbian. What does this latter fact have to do with this former fact? Nothing at all, really. But try telling that to Former City Council Speaker Christine Quinn. In an interview with The New York Post, Quinn made it clear that still holds a grudge against Nixon for endorsing Bill de Blasio over her in the the 2013 Democratic primary for mayor. “I’m surprised by this race. It’s a flight of fancy on her part,” Quinn said of Nixon’s confirmation on Monday that she would take on Andrew Cuomo in the September 13 Democratic primary. That’s a fair assessment on Quinn’s part. Most folks out there were taken aback by Nixon’s announcement. But Quinn wasn’t done. She added the following: “ Cynthia Nixon was opposed to having a qualified lesbian become mayor of New York City. Now she wants an unqualified lesbian to be the governor of New York. “You have to be qualified and have experience. She isn’t qualified to be the governor.” Quinn, as you may have surmised by that quote, is an open lesbian just like Nixon. What does this have to do with Nixon’s candidacy? It’s unclear. All that’s evident here is just how bitter Quinn is over Nixon’s decision five years ago to back someone else for New York City Mayor. “She’s an accomplished actress, a supporter of political causes and that’s a good thing,” Quinn said in this same interview, adding: “Participating in rallies is important. But she’s never run an organization. “Being an actress and celebrity doesn’t make you qualified for public office. This is a time to move away from celebrity and toward progressive leadership.” There’s an actual critique! There’s still little substance behind it, of course, as one would ideally attack a candidate for just his or her positions on topics that affect the state. In response to the comments, Nixon told the aforementioned newspaper her sexual orientation is irrelevant in this race. She’s simply concerns with “the corruption in Albany. It’s time for an outsider. I’m not an Albany insider.” Made aware of the extreme backlash she’s facing for her comment, Quinn took to Twitter and backtracked as quickly as she could, writing: To be clear, Cynthia Nixon’s identity has no bearing on her candidacy and it was not my intention to suggest it did. I want to be clear about that. I would never, EVER, criticize someone because of their identity. I’ve experienced it time and time again, and would never support it or condone it. As a lesbian who ran one of the most high profile races in the country, i know what that’s like. And I know it’s imperative that we encourage more members of our community to run for office. Cynthia Nixon aggressively opposed my candidacy in New York despite my qualifications for the office and despite my strong progressive credentials. I was attempting to make a comparison between the two of us The real point I am trying to make is that qualifications matter and records matter. I do not believe she has the qualifications or the record. Okay, fair enough. Do YOU agree? Vote below: Would you want Cynthia Nixon as your Governor? Yes, I’m a Miranda! Yes, she’d really help the state! No. View Poll »
Source: Adam Berry / Getty It’s time to throw away your moisturizers, creams, or any other home remedies you think keeps your skin healthy. One Ukrainian woman has all the answers when it comes to health and skin care, and they involve flirting with freezing temperatures. Meet Inna Vladimirskaya. Along with being a model, sex educator, life coach and blogger, Inna sets aside time every weekend to jog in the snow. Oh, and she swims in cold temperatures too, according to Metro . “Immersion in cold water makes the blood rush to the internal organs, activating their circulation, which helps break down fat and improve muscle tone,” she said. She also said the cold temperatures help with muscle and joint pain, and it rejuvenates her skin due to the increased oxygen supply. “The walrus looks much younger than its actual age, because it spends so much time in cold water,” she said. “Humans can reap the same benefits if they are prepared to put the hard work in…I just make sure I don’t stay in the water too long, and as soon as I am out, I dry myself and go straight to my warm car.” Well, I don’t know anyone trying to look like a walrus, but I think I’ll stick to my shea butter and select oils, thank you. What do you think of Inna’s routine? Too much, or bring on the cold? Let us know on Twitter and Facebook!
