B lack women are displaying excellence in all fields, especially in the realm of sports. A group of women from Antigua recently hit a major milestone by becoming the first all-Black women’s rowing team to cross the Atlantic Ocean, Black Enterprise reported. Meet the first all-black women’s rowing team to cross the Atlantic Ocean. https://t.co/BHM4a2X4aN — Black Enterprise (@blackenterprise) February 1, 2019 The women—dubbed Team Antigua-The Island Girls—competed in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge. The competition is a premier event in ocean rowing. The team—which included Kevinia Francis , Christal Clashing , Elvira Bell , and Samara Emmanuel —embarked on their journey on December 12 in the Canary Islands and returned to Antigua at the end of January. Their journey was nothing short of grueling but the women pushed through and persevered. The entire trip was a total of 3,000 miles and they dealt with sea sickness and complications with their boat. Each woman brought their vast athletic experience to the competition. Francis was known for playing a handful of sports including track-and-field, basketball and cycling, Clashing is a former Olympian who became the first woman swimmer to represent Antigua and Barbuda at the Olympics, Bell is a swim instructor, and Emmanuel’s experience as a sailor spans over a decade. Junella King —a 17-year-old who served as an alternate for the team—worked as a sailing instructor. The competition was about more than rowing, the focus was on social good as well. The team competed to raise $150,000 for a charity called Cottage of Hope which focuses on providing shelter for orphaned girls who experience abuse. The women received a warm welcome home, as the government closed schools and other institutions early so that locals could congratulate the team. “While this is the third time a team from Antigua and Barbuda has entered the Challenge, we are truly proud that the first all-black female team to row the Atlantic is comprised of four courageous Antiguan women,” Charles Fernandez , Antigua and Barbuda Minister of Tourism, told Caribbean Life News . “This is history in the making, and it will truly be a momentous occasion for Antigua and Barbuda.” SEE ALSO: Hampton University Becomes First HBCU To Have Women’s Triathlon Team Tennis Star Naomi Osaka Slated To Ink Adidas’ Biggest Deal With A Woman Athlete [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3845042″ overlay=”true”]
With Jonathan Bennett and Ryan Lochte out of the house, it was obvious who the next target was going to be: Joey Lawrence. In a rare turn of events, there’s a good chance that the first three evicted houseguests are all male, and it’s going to change the dynamic up quite a bit. Joey’s association with Ryan, Jonathan, and Dinah left him in a precarious position, and with a new HOH about to be crowned, it meant there was a chance he could keep himself safe. In the immediate aftermath of Ryan’s eviction, Lolo couldn’t help but turn on the waterworks. She may not have won gold in the Olympics, but she could sure as hell win a gold trophy for her acting. Lolo flipped the bird at Ryan just days into the game, so it’s utterly laughable that she thinks people are buying the whole “we were buddies” schtick. Joey wasted no time in starting up a new alliance consisting of himself, Dinah, Kandi, and Tamar. He pitched it, but not very well, and Tamar was not ready to jump ship. Her statement on the matter was actually pretty darn hilarious. “You wanna have an alliance with you, me, Kandi (who don’t like to do nothing physical) and Dina? Against the bootleg superhero? No, that’s not finna work, we’re gonna lose!” Joey could have at least threw in a Melissa and Joey boxset to sweeten the deal, but the brains are most definitely lost on him. Natalie and Lolo realized that now was the time to win the HOH. The pair has been picking and choosing which competitions to try winning because they thought they were in a good spot. However, Ricky showed up to let them know that Joey wanted to target them, and it made the women realize that Joey needed to go next. The HOH competition found the houseguests competing to make their way through a haunted house to find a set of car keys in the fastest time. “I don’t do haunted houses, I don’t do no Halloween honey, I don’t do clowns, I don’t do snakes, I don’t do caterpillars, I don’t do birds, I don’t do none of that stuff that’s going to scare me, no, none of that,” said Tamar. Tamar followed that up by walking out of the house after screaming too many times. Yup, she threw in the towel at the competition. After Tom won the HOH competition, Kandi wanted to know where his head was it, so she quizzed him about alliances he was in. He tried to turn the tables on her, and the conversation fizzled out. Tom, Kato, and Ricky later strategized and settled on Tamar and Kandi as the nominations, with Ryan being the backdoor target. However, Tom was now sketched out by Ricky and wondered just how long they would be able to trust him. Before the nominations ceremony, the Power of the Publicist was unleashed on the house, giving one houseguest the power to keep themselves safe at one of the next two nominations or veto ceremonies. While Big Brother only confirmed it would get the houseguest out of a “sticky” situation, the victor was Tamar, and she learned all about it. In the end, Tom put up Joey and Kandi because he was worried that he would have to vote out one of his own allies. What are your thoughts on all the latest action? Hit the comments below! Ever since Kato won the HOH competition on Thursday night, he and his allies have been chatting about the idea of evicting Ryan if there was a replacement nominee. The pre-edited segments of Mondays mostly live installment of Celebrity Big Brother saw that plan gathering steam, with Kato doubling down on Tom, Natalie, and Lolo that one of them needed to win the veto. First, however, he had to contend with Tamar Braxton who was not impressed that he called out the fact that she wanted to see her son during her nomination speech. “Every mother’s supposed to miss their children,” Tamar said to him as she stormed off. “Whenever someone says ‘go home and be with your kid, it makes me feel like I’m nothing,” Tamar later said to the man who put her on the block. Dina was also not impressed about being on the block, complaining that nobody seems to be telling the truth in the house. Um, what? Did Dina forget that this is a battle for $250,000? In any case, Kato reassured her that she would be safe and that she had to trust him. When the new powerful alliance met up outside to discuss the backdoor Ryan plan, one of them forgot to close the door, and Ryan seemingly heard everything. Ryan then confided in Joey that one of them was going on the block, and the pair ultimately took the news to Kato. Kato said that one of them will likely be going up. Tom, Natalie, and Joey were picked to play in the live veto alongside the HOH and the two nominees. It came down to Tamar and Tom who tied in the first round of the competition. Tom snagged the win and removed Dina from the block. Ryan was named the replacement nominee and was eliminated by a vote of 6-1. As he walked out the door, Joey complained to Kato. As for whether Ryan would hold a grudge against Lolo at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, he said he considered everyone in the house to be his friends. It was a classy exit, but Ryan did already know the writing was on the wall for him after the way the veto went. Julie then lifted the lid on the latest twist to rock the house. Viewers were given the opportunity to vote for one houseguest to be safe at one of the next two evictions. What are your thoughts on all the latest action? Hit the comments below. O lympic gold medal sprinter Michael Johnson announced Saturday that he’s recovering after recently suffering a mini-stroke. SEE ALSO: Here’s How Colin Kaepernick Is Beating The NFL Johnson “surprisingly” had what’s known as a Transient Ischemic Attack, or TIA, last week, he said in a Twitter post . The retired athlete is now at home with his family after doctors cleared him of cardiac issues. He’s expected to make a full recovery, as Johnson continues to make significant progress. “It seems these things can affect anyone, even the once fastest man in the world!” he stated. “I’m no stranger to a good exercise plan and have thrown myself into it with my usual focus and determination. … I will be posting updates on my recovery often. Thanks for all the words of encouragement!” Michael Johnson: Four-time Olympic champion recovering after 'mini-stroke' https://t.co/OcqE5LGS8k — BBC News (UK) (@BBCNews) September 8, 2018 A TIA is a temporary blockage of blood flow to the brain, according to the American Stroke Association . TIAs are often labelled mini-strokes because they can be relatively minor in terms of immediate consequences. Since it doesn’t cause permanent damage, having a TIA is often ignored as no big deal, the stroke association said. However, it’s better viewed as a “warning stroke” because they could indicate a high likelihood of a more serious stroke. The four-time Olympic champion, who will turn 51 on Sept. 13, was once the fastest man in the world at 200 meter and 400-meter races, reported BBC News , where he works as an expert track and field commentator. Johnson participated in the Olympics three times, in 1992, 1996 and 2000. He was the first man to win both the 200 meter and 400-meter race at the same Olympic game (1996 in Atlanta). He’s also won eight gold medals at the IAAF World Championships from 1991- 1999 and was elected into the United States Track and Field Hall of Fame in 2004. On the most recent episode of Dancing With The Stars , infamous Olympics legend Tonya Harding pulled off the Foxtrot. Her performance was pretty good, but it wasn’t perfect. And Tonya broke down in tears afterwards. An insider’s report says that Tonya’s competition think that her tears are fake, and are more than ready for her to go. RadarOnline reports that Tonya Harding’s fake tears were the last straw for the other dancers. “Tonya’s tears just did not sit well with the other contestants.” They were not charmed. And she was apparently already on their last nerve. “And they are already getting fed up with her theatricals.” Okay, so “theatricals” is a nonsense word. A person is theatrical . A theatrical person might display theatrics . “Everyone is saying that she completely faked her crying episode on-screen during the premiere.” And apparenlty they all know what she’s really like, behind the scenes. “Because she is not that emotional in real life.” It was more than just crocodile tears that rubbed them the wrong way. “She is such a huge drama queen and it seems that she believes she is the star of the show already.” And the insider says that she believes that for a not-too-bad reason. “The producers seem to agree.” They’ve been putting her front and center in their promos. “Because they are using her imagery for most of the promotion of this current season.” Weird, consider that Adam Rippon is the huge star from, you know, this century. But that’s none of our business, we guess. Apparently, Tonya’s “theatricals” and other antics have people thoroughly exhasperated. “Everyone is already just so sick of her.” Perhaps they wouldn’t mind her so much if she were dominating the competition? But she hasn’t been doing too badly. She hasn’t been sent home, anyway. Yet . “And the other contestants all agree that they all need to up their game.” They apparently have one goal in mind — aside from victory. “And get her eliminated as soon as possible.” Hey, it’s a competition. This sounds like fair motivation. We will play devil’s advocate for a moment. Let us consider, for example, that it is easy for people to hold a negative opinion of Tonya. She is, of course, implicated in the infamous attack on Nancy Kerrigan. Honestly, among younger people, many would not even remember her name were it not for that legacy — and the recent I, Tonya film on the subject. So it is easy to see how people might view Tonya through the filter of their preconceptions. At the same time … Tonya’s reputation probably didn’t come out of nowhere. Tonya Harding has been disgraced ever since Nancy Kerrigan’s attack . She’s had a number of less-than-ideal moments in terms of public relations and optics. She may have been hoping that Dancing With The Stars would be her redemption arc. But the show itself will thrive on drama. The drama of her winning or losing will work just as well. And if she’s poorly behaved behind the scenes … that honestly helps drive up interest in the show. But if Tonya continues to be seen as difficult to work with … she could be looking at the end of her TV career. View Slideshow: Dancing with the Stars Athletes Season: Cast Revealed!
Watch out for your kneecaps! (Kidding!) Tonya Harding will be on the new season of Dancing With The Stars . Olympic snowboarder Jamie Anderson and Olympic figureskater and media darling Adam Rippon will also be joining the cast. The finale of Dancing With The Stars was last November, and it’s about time that the world learns who’ll be starring on this next season. Well, Us Weekly reports that Tonya Harding will be one of the “stars” who will be dancing. Harding was infamous in the ’90s after her ex-husband … who was also her bodyguard … orchestrated a “hit” on Nancy Kerrigan, designed to injure Harding’s rival so that she could not compete. Harding did not order it herself, and complains that she has been unfairly condemned for it. But she did admit to knowing about the attack before it happened . It’s worth noting that Kerrigan has competed on Dancing With The Stars before, during season 24. This will be the dance competition’s first-ever all-athletes season, so this controversial Olympian won’t be alone. Olympian Adam Rippon made headlines earlier this year over his back-and-forth conflict with Vice President Mike Pence . Rippon is openly gay, Pence is notorious for holding extremely anti-gay views. Donald Trump himself has reportedly joked that Pence would prefer to see gay Americans be executed by hanging. And Pence’s history of espousing extremely conservative views and carrying those beliefs into government speaks for itself. Rippon, however, turns out to be a media darling, adored by American fans for his unbridled honesty and his sense of humor. He’ll make a great addition to this upcoming season. As one of the best figureskaters on the planet, he’ll also be one hell of a dancer. Jamie Anderson will also be on Dancing With The Stars . She is an extraordinarily talented snowboarder. Anderson is one of the top slopestyle riders in the world, and demonstrated this at the Sochii Winter Olympics in 2014 and in the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in 2018. With four gold medals, five silver medals, and two bronze medals, she’s proven that she’s devastating in the snow. But how will that translate to dance? We’ll just have to wait and see. Tonya Harding reentered the spotlight recently with the Oscar-nominated film, I, Tonya . It appears that she hopes that this film can be part of her redemption in the eyes of the public. “The media had me convicted of doing something wrong before I had even done anything at all,” she lamented last December. “I’m always the bad person.” Honestly, she hasn’t always done herself that many favors, as she has sometimes taken odd stances in interviews over the years. It will be interesting to see how well she takes the inevitable jokes at her expense when she appears on Dancing With The Stars . To be clear, ABC has yet to officially confirm that Harding, Rippon, and Anderson will be on this season. They’ll announce the full list of “stars” on Friday, April 13th, on Good Morning America . Considering how interesting these three names are, we have to wonder who else will be among their competition. And, for that matter, who their dance partners will be. Why the fuck would any brand use these monster to promote their bikinis…it makes zero to no sense, she’s old, a has been, looks like she’s a handicap, in what we can assume is the PARA-BIKINI-MODELING, you know done to give affirmative action and equal opportunity, but that no one watches because it doesn’t get the same level of televised as the actual olympics..
