All Of The Lights!! NYC’s Lower Manhattan And It’s Burroughs Get Power Back After Five Days In The Dark!

It’s about damn time! After five days of no electricity or hot water , hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers have been waiting for this moment. According to The Daily Mail : Jubilant New Yorkers took to the streets tonight as Con Ed began restoring power to lower Manhattan after repairing the East 14th Street subway station that exploded when Sandy hit on Monday night. Electricity began coming on to more than 65,000 customers in parts of the East Village, SoHo and the Lower East Side at around 6pm while thousands of residents in Chelsea and the so-called Madison Network were able to switch on their lights again about an hour later. People took to the streets cheering on Prince and Lafayette in Nolita as the lights finally flickered again after days of darkness. Power was restored north to south between Canal Street and Broadway, and East to West between the East River and 14th street. At 6pm the Chelsea network went back up between the Hudson River and Fifth Avenue, and 31st Street on north and 15th street. The news comes as a huge relief to the hundreds of thousands of people who have been without power since Monday night. Many of them had left the so-called Dark Zone below 39th street but there are still tens of thousands of people living in increasingly difficult conditions. Con Edison let customers know the good news with a flurry of proud tweets on Friday evening. Starting with the restoration of power for 65,000 in the East Village and the Lower East Side at around 5.45pm, the company then boasted at about 6.45pm: #ConEdison just restored power to 25,000 customers in the #Chelsea network. At around 7pm, Con Edison tweeted that another 8,000 customers in the #City Hall network were back on the grid – from Broadway to the East River and Canal Street to Frankfort. This announcement quickly followed with the news that over 30,000 homes stretching from 31st to 14th Streets and Fifth Avenue to the East River were restored. But Manhattan wasn’t the only borough the electricity company was concentrating on. As the announcements were coming thick and fast on the island, Con Edison tweeted just before 7pm that more than 122,000 Brooklyn residents had electricity back up and running and more than 39,000 customers were rejoicing as they switched on their lights in the Bronx. An additional 29,000 households in Queens were also powered up again before 7pm and 85,000 in devastated Staten Island, for the first time since the Superstorm savaged New York. The electricity company said things should be back to normal for most residents in these areas though it couldn’t guarantee that individual customers’ equipment had not been damaged in the storm, which would delay their return to power. There’s still a lot to take on but at least folks can feel a little less helpless now. Images via twitter/shutterstock

Barack’s Back! POTUS Puts Robney’s Azz In Check During Tonight’s Debate!

Barack proved himself to be passionate and in control tonight. And he corrected Mitt on more incorrect facts than we can count on one hand. While Mitt was rude and showed a complete lack of respect and understanding of Women, the middle-class, and energy and job concerns, Barack stayed on topic for the majority of the debate and didn’t let Mittens shake him up. Robney offended women when he addressed the question of equal pay and pathetically responded by saying he “had a binder full of women” and would “figure out a way for Mom’s to get home in time to make dinner”. He also lied about contraception coverage for women…he has said in the past that employers can decide if they want to cover it or not. He also blamed single parents for gun control issues and continues to bring up his ‘five points’ without explaining what his ‘five point plan’ actually is. According to CNN… A forceful Obama defended his record and challenged Romney on shifting positions in the 90-minute debate, arguing his Republican rival’s policies would favor the wealthy if elected. Romney repeatedly attacked Obama’s record, saying millions of unemployed people and sluggish economic recovery showed the president’s policies had failed. Obama was more animated and engaging than his understated and widely panned performance in their first debate nearly two weeks ago. “Governor Romney says he’s got a five-point plan. Governor Romney doesn’t have a five-point plan; he has a one-point plan. And that plan is to make sure that folks at the top play by a different set of rules,” Obama said about his opponent’s approach for boosting the economy. Romney shot back that Obama was “great as a speaker, but his policies don’t work.” “That’s what this election is all about,” Romney said, saying he would prioritize middle class growth. “It’s about how we can get the middle class of this country a bright and prosperous future.” However, Romney failed to provide further specifics of his tax policy, even when one audience member asked about unspecified deductions and loopholes the candidate says he will eliminate. On a sensitive foreign policy topic, the candidates clashed at the front of the stage over the September 11 terrorist attack in Libya that killed four Americans, with Romney suggesting the Obama administration played politics by failing to immediately acknowledge what happened. Obama shot back that the suggestion anyone in his administration would play politics on such an issue was “offensive.” When Obama said he called it a terrorist attack shortly afterward, Romney challenged him, and Obama responded “check the transcript.” “More debt and less jobs. I’m going to change that. I know what it takes to create good jobs again,” Romney said, addressing the first-time voter. “When you come out in 2014 — I presume I’m going to be president — I’m going to make sure you get a job.” The most recent CNN “poll of polls” — an aggregate of the latest major surveys — showed Romney with a slight edge nationally at 48. In the battleground states considered up-for-grabs, polls show Romney has narrowed Obama’s lead or caught the president just three weeks before the election. The Obama campaign conceded he had a bad night in the first debate and promised a more aggressive approach in New York. A third and final debate focusing on foreign policy will take place October 22 in Florida. Regardless of who you’re voting for, tonight was a pretty dope comeback for Barack. Images via Getty

Making It Rain On Them Hoes-Barack Shuts Down Robney’s Economy Lead

All those isht talkers out there can take a seat! Money Mitt and his crew just got schooled in the polls today. President Obama has taken away Mitt Romney’s longstanding advantage as the candidate voters say is most likely to restore the economy and create jobs, according to the latest poll by The New York Times and CBS News, which found a modest sense of optimism among Americans that White House policies are working. But while the climate for Mr. Obama has improved since midsummer, and Mr. Romney has failed to shift sentiment decisively in his favor, the poll found that the presidential race is narrowly divided. The outcome could still turn on unexpected events and how the candidates are perceived after their three debates next month. With their conventions behind them and the general election campaign fully engaged, the Democratic Party is viewed more favorably than the Republican Party. The poll also found that more likely voters give an edge to Mr. Obama on foreign policy, Medicare and addressing the challenges of the middle class. The only major issue on which Mr. Romney held an advantage was handling the federal budget deficit. The president’s job approval rating of 51 percent among all Americans marks the first time he has surpassed a majority in the poll by The Times and CBS News since immediately after Osama bin Laden was killed, in May 2011. The number of adults who say the country is on the right track has increased to 40 percent, though 54 percent say it is on the wrong track. Congrats POTUS. Source Images via Facebook/WENN

An Open Book: Nene Talks About Her Glambaby, Supporting Gays, And Gives Advice To Evelyn

Is it just us or are we all liking the ‘new’ NeNe Leakes ? She rubbed us the wrong way in past seasons on RHOA but it seems NeNe may have gotten an ego check for real. Peep her interview from Essence mag: ESSENCE.com: How much of your character Rocky is NeNe? NENE LEAKES: Rocky is definitely part of NeNe. She’s outspoken and she’s smart and she’s very protective of her gay boss, Bryan, who is played by Andrew Reynolds. One of the things she does that NeNe does not do is use her boss’ credit card without his knowledge and buys stuff. ESSENCE.com: What are you thoughts on the show being banned in Utah since you’re a supporter of gay rights? LEAKES: In my real life, both my bosses are gay. On the Real Housewives of Atlanta, Andy Cohen is gay, everybody at Bravo is gay – we call them the gay mafia (laughs). Over at Glee and The New Normal, my boss Ryan Murphy is gay. On the show, my boss, played by Andrew Reynolds is gay in real life. I’m surrounded by all my gay bosses. But I think it’s absolutely ridiculous the show was banned without being seen. I think viewers think it is the new gay show and it’s not. This show is not about being gay or anything. It’s about love, it’s about comedy, it’s about drama. If they would at least tune in and give it a chance. I’m not gay. [The main characters] aren’t even saying they’re gay. They are two professional men. One is an OBGYN and the other runs a production company. It’s based off of Ryan Murphy’s life. They aren’t walking around hugging and kissing. They are just like any other normal family. It’s just that they’re two men looking to have a baby. I think the people who are going to love the show the most are people who are not traditional. ESSENCE.com: Are you hoping the show will broaden the mindset of a few Americans? LEAKES: It’s not unusual to see two gay guys sitting at the coffee shop down the street or going shopping together or holding hands. I am really shocked when people are that closed minded. It’s 2012 and people are living the life that they want to live. It’s exactly how you should live… I love gays, but I never really liked gay guys who aren’t out of the box or out of closet. I prefer them to be out of the closet, very open, because I know from my experiences in life how freeing it is to do you and be who you are. It’s Utah, these people might be very closed minded. I don’t know but I can guarantee there are gays in Utah. Once the show airs and they see we’re about love, family, comedy and drama I hope they will decide to put the show on out there. ESSENCE.com: What are your thoughts on gay marriage? LEAKES: I’m for all kinds of gay rights. I’m almost like a gay man myself. I think people should marry who ever they want to marry. That’s going back to living the life you want to live. There are people who never want to be married. My dad never married in his life. He never wanted that kind of commitment. I think it’s whatever works for you and it worked for him. If you want to be married, be married. I think you should do whatever you want to do as long as you’re not breaking the law or doing anything illegal. ESSENCE.com: How is your granddaughter? LEAKES: I have a glam-baby. Let’s be correct, now. I’m way too young and too fabulous to be a grandma. I’m a glam-mom…At first I wasn’t happy about it, when I heard she was pregnant. I felt like they were young. This is a different time. I felt like they need to enjoy being young. I wanted him to be married. I also want my son to date a lot. So you can figure out what it is you like and don’t like in a woman. I didn’t want him to have children at an early age. We just love her to death. I can’t wait until she gets a little bit bigger, I have already introduced her to the Neiman Marcus kid’s department. She’s ready to go shopping at any time. I’m excited about piercing her ears and polishing her nails. I never had a girl and I’m excited about her. ESSENCE.com: You talked about having a troubled past with domestic violence. What are your thoughts on Evelyn Lozada and Chad Johnson? LEAKES: I wanted to reach out to her, but I didn’t. I feel like when people are going through something I’m confused about whether I should say something or not, because so many people are saying stuff to them. I don’t talk to Evelyn regularly, but I do know her, we do text if we need something from another. The only advice I would have for Evelyn is to be quiet. I wouldn’t say anything else. To me, it makes matters worse and I would be quiet and try to it handle privately. It’s probably impossible but here’s hoping NeNe has left her “Rich Itch” big-head days behind!
