Diahann Carroll, an iconic actress who became the first African-American actress to ever lead a broadcast television series, died Friday at her home in Los Angeles. She was 84 years old. The star — who won a Tony Award, garnered an Oscar nomination and made television history with her turns on Julia and Dynasty — had been diagnosed with breast cancer way back in 1997. Her daughter, producer/journalist Suzanne Kay, confirmed the news of her mother’s passing from this disease to The Hollywood Reporter. A native of the Bronx, Carroll was her Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for 1962’s “No Strings.” Her historic break, however, came six years later when she was cast as the first black actress to lead a network series, anchoring NBC’s “Julia” for three seasons. She earned the aforementioned Emmy nod, along with a Golden Globe victory, for this role of a widowed nurse raising a young son. Despite the acclaim she received as a result of this turn, Carroll said years ago that she didn’t want to do it at first. “I really didn’t believe that this was a show that was going to work,” she said in a 1998 chat for the website The Interviews: An Oral History of Television, adding at the time: “I thought it was something that was going to leave someone’s consciousness in a very short period of time. I thought, ‘Let them go elsewhere.'” Respected and admired for opening doors and eyes in Hollywood, Carroll went on to enjoy major roles in classic programs such as “Dynasty,” its spinoff, “The Colbys” and “A Different World.” She also appeared on five epidoes of Grey’s Anatomy in 2006. Other more recent small screen gigs includes recurring roles on Diary of a Single Mom and White Collar. She was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 2011… but she was more than just an actress. Carroll also recorded mumerous albums during her career and wrote the memoirs Diahann, published in 1986, and The Legs Are the Last to Go: Aging, Acting, Marrying, Mothering and Other Things I Learned Along the Way, in 2008. Diahann Carroll is pictured here in her groundbreaking role of Julia Baker. The veteran actress was married four times, her last husband being singer Vic Damone. Ronnie was tased, arrested, and charged with kidnapping. The Jersey Shore actor allegedly chased Jen with a knife…. while holding their 18-month-old child in his arms. Apparently, Jen told cops Ronnie lost it after doing cocaine. From TMZ : Ronnie and his GF, Jen — who’ve been on and off due to several violent incidents — got into another heated argument early Friday morning, shortly after 2:30 AM, at an Airbnb they’re renting in L.A. … according to our law enforcement sources. As we’ve seen in the past … the argument got out of hand quickly, because we’re told Ronnie allegedly slapped and punched Jen … who then went running out of the house, screaming for help. TMZ states cops received multiple calls about Jen being “in distress.” Our law enforcement sources say Ronnie gave chase … running after Jen, allegedly with a knife in his hand, and horrifyingly, also with their infant daughter! We’re told Ronnie was holding 18-month-old Ariana as he yelled at Jen to get back in the house. We’re told Ronnie eventually dropped the knife and locked himself and Ariana in the house. That’s where he was when police arrived on the scene, and he did not respond to their commands to come outside. Believing baby Ariana might be in danger, the police reportedly broke down the door to the house, at which point Ronnie still didn’t calm down… so they tased him. TMZ reports the girls suffered no major injuries, though Jen has visible marks on her face according to what the site is told. The site also states that 12 hours before the incident they were hand-in-hand, happy about getting back together although their loved ones warned against it… see that HERE .

Source: MediaNews Group/Torrance Daily Breeze via Getty Images / Getty Social Media Star Sued NBA Player After He Claimed Their Relationship Went Bad Dwight Howard says his assault accuser doesn’t have an ounce of evidence in his lawsuit claims – including that the NBA star was “in everyone raw” at “transgender sex parties.” The Charlotte Hornets player has asked a judge to rule in his favor in a lawsuit accusing him of menacing a gay YouTube star when their alleged relationship went south. Howard’s lawyer filed court docs contending his accuser Masin Elije had no evidence whatsoever that he’d threatened him, offered him money to sign a nondisclosure agreement or proof that Howard sexually harassed him. Elije can’t produce one witness who would testify that they have personal knowledge his claims, including that Howard personally invited Elije to basketball games, sent him nude pictures or that he had an “understanding” with a “transgender prostitute,” Howard’s lawyer said in the court papers, which were obtained by BOSSIP. And the lawyer contended that Elije has no proof to back up his claims that Howard “was in everyone raw” at “transgender sex parties,” nor does he have anyone who’d give testimony about it in open court, according to court papers. Howard’s lawyer pointed out that he asked Elije to produce the evidence in the case as they moved towards trial. But Elije never did, the lawyer said, and now he says enough is enough. We exclusively revealed that Elije – who was born Maurice Singletary – sued Howard in February, alleging that Howard began harassing and threatening him online and by phone when he refused Howard’s request to sign a nondisclosure agreement about their alleged relationship. Howard countersued Elije for $10 million, saying he doesn’t know him and accused him of trying to use Howard for social media clout and to drum up support for his novel “Industry Hoe.” Elije has not responded to the lawsuit as of Oct. 3.
