‘He watering it down, just putting words together that sounded good,’ Waka tells Complex magazine. By Rob Markman Waka Flocka Flame Photo: Getty Images Waka Flocka Flame doesn’t dabble in rap politics. The outspoken Atlanta rap star hasn’t yet mastered the art of being diplomatic and he most likely never will. In his most recent interview with Complex magazine, Waka weighed in on Jay-Z, Kanye West, Rick Ross and other rappers he feels have capitalized off of his rowdy, down-bottom sound. “What are y’all gonna say now? Jay-Z stupid as hell? My sound is wack? You gonna say that? They love the sound. They can’t run away from it. That shit re-sparked n—as’ careers. My sound put life into a lot of people’s careers. I feel like my sound changed hip-hop. Period,” Waka told the magazine. “It’s crazy when I came out with it, everybody laughed at it, but the next year everybody’s doing it. They getting credit for the sh– you started. You be like, ‘Damn, how is this n—a a genius for doing something I started?’ ” Flocka first emerged in 2009 with “O Let’s Do It,” a riot-starting jam fueled by a mix of sporadic horn stabs and thumping bass. His next single, the Lex Luger -produced “Hard in the Paint,” would introduce rap fans to a refreshing-yet-schizophrenic sound. By 2010, the horrific synth lines and kinetic drum patterns became rap’s hottest sound and Luger one of the most in-demand producers. Kanye tapped Waka’s sound scientist on the Throne’s “H.A.M.” single. Rick Ross, who first collaborated with Waka on his “O Let’s Do It” remix, went on to make a number of hits with Lex, most notably “B.M.F. (Blowin’ Money Fast).” In just two years, Luger has crafted tracks with Wiz Khalifa, Juicy J, 2 Chainz, Wale, Mac Miller and Ace Hood. Waka, who will release his new album Triple F Life on Tuesday, doesn’t mention Ross by name, but suggests that the Maybach Music boss swiped his signature sound. “This n—a out here making 30 fucking songs with your sound,” Flocka charged. “He watering it down, just putting words together that sounded good. Sh– would be harder if it was the truth.” Thirty songs may be a stretch, but still Waka is not flattered by what he sees as imitation. “That sh– made me tight. N—as built labels off our sound — like, literally. You know how many n—as sound like Lex Luger and Southside?” he asked rhetorically, referencing his second in-house producer Southside. “I go in n—as’ studios, all their beats sound like my producers. The always controversial Chris Brown is once again at the center of a Twitter beef, though the R&B star claims he had nothing to do with this one. Someone apparently hacked his account and threatened … Cher. Brown’s camp insisted his Twitter was hacked earlier in the week and Breezy personally wants to defuse any tension with Cher, to whom he wrote: “I have the utmost respect for u as an artist @cher! just to clear this up!” Brown, who performed on Today Friday, added: “@cher if this is your real twitter I would like to say that some of ur fans are spreading false accusations!” Brown’s account was allegedly compromised this week when a sneaky poseur sent Cher a combative tweet slamming her political opinions. The hacked Tweet from “Chris Brown” read: “That damn GRANNY bitch CHER needs to keep her mouth SHUTTTT about her opinion against obama !!! smh she needs a beating.” Sounds about right, but probably not him. The faux Chris didn’t say what Cher’s opinion was, but it’s hard to believe she’s against Obama. Cher re-tweeted a question from one of her followers that asked about the threat, saying, “I Don’t know? Is that something he’s particularly Good at?” Well played, Cher. And Chris Brown , for actually using the site to clear the air and patch things up for once, instead of calling out “haters.” [Photos: WENN.com]
We’re not-so-secretly rooting for Lindsay Lohan to succeed. Sure, she’s gotten way more press for being a drunken mess than she ever did for being a working actress, but that sort of fame is fleeting (Exhibit A: Paris Hilton ). What we want is for Lindsay to keep getting gigs like the Elizabeth Taylor biopic Liz & Dick she’s currently shooting for Lifetime. Because when Lindsay gets a gig, Lindsay is in costume. And when Lindsay is in costume, her spectacular suck sacks tend to pop out of said costumes like strippers out of a birthday cake. Those wild ponies on her chest just cannot be tamed, and for that we say- Viva Lindsay ! See more from Lindsay Lohan ‘s on-set wardrobe malfunction after the jump!
We’ve got a few SKINteresting re-releases for you this week on Blu-ray, but first we’ve got a question for you: What’s your opinion on fully nude French girls engaged in unsimulated acts of love? If your answer is “you had me at fully nude French girls,” then do we have a nude release for you: Desire (aka Q ) (2011), Skin Central’s top SKINternational film of 2011 and an excellent example of having your cake (or in this cake, your split-beaver shots) and eating it too. Is it art disguised as porn, or porn disguised as art? Either way, it’s recommended on DVD. And in Blu-ray nudes, we’ve got a trio of re-releases that’ll take you back to the glory days of the ’80s: Cocktail (1988), The Color of Money (1986), and Sea of Love (1989). More after the jump!
‘You have to build up the tension, because the kiss is the release,’ crooner tells MTV News. By Fallon Prinzivalli Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in “Breaking Dawn – Part 2” Photo: Summit Entertainment The Best Kiss award at the MTV Movie Awards is arguably the fans’ favorite category to vote on. For the past three years in a row, the honor has been bestowed upon “Twilight” co-stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart for their smooches as Edward Cullen and Bella Swan. This year, they’re up against some hefty competition: Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling in “Crazy, Stupid, Love,” Emma Watson and Rupert Grint in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2,” Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum in “The Vow” and, their biggest opponents, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson in “The Hunger Games.” While the winner is anybody’s guess, we’re wondering which couple deserves the award. There’s no one better to answer our question than Robin Thicke, who’s managed to croon his way into the hearts of many ladies. The musician tells MTV News that the Best Kiss award should go to the most “powerful” smooch. “You have to build up the tension, because the kiss is the release,” the “Exhale (Shoop Shoop)” singer said. “The kiss is the moment when the strings come in, and all of the danger and the anger and the frustration and the loss — the kiss becomes redemption. It takes you out of purgatory and into the gates of heaven. A kiss has to be that powerful, in my opinion.” If fans honor Thicke’s definition when they vote, it sounds like Hutcheron and Lawrence could take home the coveted golden popcorn. Their characters, Katniss and Peeta, are in danger while they’re stuck in a cave, she could lose him if he dies from his injuries, and he’s frustrated and angry that she wants to head into the bloodbath of the Cornucopia to save him. With a single kiss, all that tension is released. Sounds like they’re a shoe-in, right? You decide! The power is in your hands. Vote now through Saturday, June 1, at MovieAwards.MTV.com , and stay tuned for more Movie Awards coverage right here on MTV News! G.O.O.D. Music producer Mike Dean ‘was bumpin’ us before we got hot. Why stop now?’ A$AP Rocky says on ‘RapFix Live.’ By Rob Markman A$AP Rocky on “RapFix Live” Photo: Natasha Chandel/ MTV News When A$AP Rocky broke through last year with “Purple Swag,” he didn’t exactly scream NYC. Instead of producing a more-recognized New York sound, Rocky and his A$AP Mob drew from Southern influences. Rock’s slowed-down, syrup-drench swag was more Houston than Harlem — then again, that was part of its appeal. Still, Rocky’s crew has had its share of critics — most recently, a veteran dirty South producer. “We need some new H Town rappers to blow up. Why the f— there all these fake ass Houston knock off artists from up North and West,” Mike Dean tweeted Sunday. “I mean rep where you are from not us. We gotta stop this sh– ASAP!!!!” “He was just talkin’ subliminal about Northern people. You gotta look at it like even Bun B embraces us, and we look up to him too,” Rocky said when he appeared on “RapFix Live” on Wednesday. “Not only that, it’s love when we’re out in the H-Town, and on top of that, he was bumpin’ us. This Mike dude was bumpin’ us before we got hot. Why stop now?” After the initial tweets, A$AP Yams responded to Dean in defense of his crew: “@therealmikedean. I respect ur work legendary [but] u def sound ignorant. The new generation is a melting pot of influences from everywhere. Get off that old head sh–.” Dean, who now works with Kanye West and produced a number of tracks on Watch the Throne , made his name with songs for Houston rap legends Big Mello, Z-Ro and Scarface. After some back and forth, Dean tweeted that he “wasn’t speaking on anyone in particular” and thanked Yams for keeping the H-Town movement alive. Yams joined Rocky on the “RapFix” couch Wednesday, saying, “You gotta realize, we’re a whole ‘nother generation. We didn’t just grow up on our sound regionally. We didn’t just have DJ Kay Slay mixtapes. We were 8 years old when Master P and Cash Money was coming out, so we still had that as an option. If you look at all the greats, they all just a mixture of everything.” Share your opinion about Mike Dean’s comments below! Related Videos A$AP Rocky Rips Up ‘RapFix Live’ Related Artists A$AP Rocky
