The talk show maven took to her Twitter on Monday (June 18) to confirm that Rihanna would appear on an upcoming episode of her OWN talk show, “Oprah’s Next Chapter.” Oprah didn’t have an exact date for the interview, but did note that it would all go down in August. A rep for OWN hadn’t responded to MTV News’ request for further information at press time. Rihanna appeared on Winfrey’s talk show back in January 2010 , where she performed Bob Marley’s classic “Redemption Song” to benefit the victims of the devastating earthquake in Haiti. Oprah also dedicated an entire episode of her talk show to the issue of domestic violence one year before in March 2009 . The episode was in part inspired by the 2009 assault of Rihanna by then-boyfriend Chris Brown. While Ri didn’t appear on the episode, Winfrey did have a message for young women who find themselves in abusive relationships. “If you go back with a man who hits you, it’s because you don’t think you’re worthy of being with a man who won’t,” Winfrey said during the episode. “I’ve said before, ‘Love doesn’t hurt, and if a man hits you once, he will hit you again.’ ” Given all the headlines that Rihanna has found herself in recently, including reconnecting with Brown on several tracks earlier this year and having her name tossed around as one of the reasons why Drake and Breezy got into a fight last week in New York City, the singer and the talk-show host should have some interesting talking points. In addition to her newly announced interview with Winfrey, Rihanna also made headlines on Monday thanks to her brand-new tattoo. Over the weekend, she tweeted out a photo of her new ankle tattoo. The tat is that of a falcon shaped somewhat like a handgun. “Falcon: a light that shines in the darkness! Never close their eyes during sleep,” she tweeted on Saturday. His first stop was at the home of “Sex and the City” star Sarah Jessica Parker for a money ball co-hosted by Vogue editor Anna Wintour. The 50-person, $40,000-a-pop event, attended by celebs including Oscar winner Meryl Streep, Bravo boss Andy Cohen and fashion designer Michael Kors, included a moment of levity when Parker’s nine-year-old son, James, interrupted Obama during his speech with a round of applause, according to Politico . “He wanted to fire up the crowd,” Obama quipped. “He knows an applause line,” Cohen chimed in. “Right on cue!” “We’ve got as fundamental a choice this time out than we have had in 30, 40 or 50 years,” the president told the small group packed into a low-lit, art-filled room. “What we are going to have to do is present very clearly to the American people that choice.” Making a rare joint appearance with First Lady Michelle Obama, the president raised $2 million at the event, which included a private question-and-answer session between the commander-in-chief and his guests. Parker’s husband, actor Matthew Broderick, was not present due to his current starring role in the Broadway musical “Nice Work If You Can Get It.” The First Couple then moved to another glamorous 250-person, $10,000-a-plate dinner event at the Plaza Hotel that included a performance by Mariah Carey and some remarks from Alicia Keys. That soiree raised another $2.5 million for the campaign. While Romney has been filling his coffers with huge donations to his campaign and to Super-PACs supporting his effort from a number of mega-millionaires and billionaires, Obama has struggled to get the same kind of big-cash donations from his supporters. Friends Say Mary Kennedy Driven To Drugs/Suicide By Philandering Husband Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The Kennedy “curse” strikes again, but in this case we’re inclined to think the curse has more to do with the Kennedy men’s cheating ways . Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s estranged wife, Mary, who battled her husband’s rumored philandering by turning to alcohol and prescription drugs, hanged herself in a barn on their Westchester estate yesterday, sources told The Post. The 52-year-old mother of four — the latest victim of a family dynasty cursed with tragedies — may have taken her own life because she was haunted by her broken marriage, her friends lamented. “She was deeply troubled, abusing alcohol and prescription meds,” a close family friend said. “She had cause. She was used up and tossed away by Bobby. That was awful.” Bedford police responded at 1:36 p.m. to a report of a “possible unattended death” — meaning there were no witnesses — at the estate. After authorities arrived, they cut her down and tried to revive her. She was found by a housekeeper, ABC News reported. Mary was found “inside an out-building on that property,” police said in a statement. She left behind a note, and none of her children were home at the time, sources said. The Kennedy family dealt stoically with the latest in the long line of shocking deaths. “We deeply regret the death of our beloved sister Mary, whose radiant and creative spirit will be sorely missed by those who loved her,” the family said in a statement. “Our heart goes out to her children, who she loved without reservation. We have no further comment at this time.” A grim-faced RFK Jr. showed up at the house at around 8 p.m. The third of 11 children of former US Sen., Attorney General and presidential candidate Robert Francis Kennedy, he married Mary Richardson in 1994, one month after his first marriage ended following 12 years. The ceremony took place aboard a research vessel on the Hudson River, a fitting spot for the couple, who were environmental advocates. A family friend said Mary had known the Kennedy clan long before she married Bobby, and had been a close pal of his sister — also named Mary, but known as Kerry — since they were 15-year-olds. “She had grown up with the Kennedy family, having been Kerry’s best friend since they were teenagers,” the friend said. The marriage broke down amid reports of her addiction and rumors of his involvement with other women. “She knew Bobby her whole life, and now he rejected her. Tragic,” the family friend said. Kennedy, 58, filed for divorce on May 12, 2010, two days after Mary called police to complain about her husband — but she appeared “visibly intoxicated” when officers arrived, according to police reports. As of yesterday, the divorce was not finalized, TMZ.com reported. But Kennedy has since been dating actress Cheryl Hines, sources said. A day after the divorce filing, Bedford police were again called to the home because of a report of a “domestic incident” in which Mary was reportedly drunk. Two days later, she was charged with driving under the influence when she was caught speeding down the Taconic State Parkway. Her license was suspended. Ethel Kennedy, her mother-in-law, sent a handwritten letter, seeking leniency and calling Mary a “kind, loving and generous person.” Cops confirmed then that they had been called to the estate several times in the previous years. Mary’s close friend pointed to the strain of her 18-year marriage. “She was lovely. She always looked out for you,” she said, but added, “She did not have it easy, being Bobby’s wife. “I remember being seated at a dinner next to Bobby around 10 years ago that she was also at — it was the first time I had met either of them — and he put his hand on my thigh under the table. We hadn’t even spoken but to say hello. He is such a dog that way.” The friend, who requested anonymity, alluded to the problems of other women who have married into the fabled clan: “Like all Kennedy wives, she was expected to tow the line. Stay quiet, take care of the kids, tolerate the affairs and look happy. She took solace in yoga and meditation.” Still, the philandering took “a terrible toll,” the source said, adding, “He got all the glory, and she got no acknowledgment for what she did: holding it all together at home.” Kennedy rarely spoke about his private life, but opened up to Oprah Winfrey in a 2007 interview. “Pretty soon after my dad died” — referring to his father’s assassination in 1968 — “I started taking drugs,” he said. After overcoming his addiction he became an environmental advocate. Mary, who had worked as an architect before her marriage, took up the same environmental causes and tried to turn the Bedford estate into a showcase, according to her friend. “She was a gentle soul. She was very proud of how she had turned their family home into the truly greenest/eco-friendly home ever,” she said. The friend said Mary took over caring for the two children from her husband’s first marriage — and then raised four of her own. “Like so many parents of Kennedy kids, she was dealing with a wild bunch,” she said. “The kids were always getting into scrapes, and Mary was forever rescuing them.” It sounds like this woman had an incredibly hard life. 18 years of marriage to someone who doesn’t treat you right can’t be easy and it sounds like she had her hands full with the kids. Lopez unseats Lady Gaga , who took top honors last year but falls to #5 in this year’s ranking; her visibility and earnings were lower in the last 12 months because she wasn’t touring, having wrapped her Monster Ball in May of last year and only recently launching her latest road show, the Born This Way Ball. Rihanna and Kim Kardashian debut on the list in grand fashion, coming in at 4 and 7, respectively. The two benefited from the inclusion of a “Social Rank” among the factors, which include money earned, TV/radio presence and level of press attention, used to formulate the listing, which aims to reflect the level of influence a celebrity has in the entertainment industry. With her millions of followers on Twitter and Facebook, Rihanna came in second in the Social Rank category. Explaining Lopez’s position on the list, Forbes writes, “[‘American Idol’] gave her a platform to promote her music and turn her image around. It didn’t hurt that she also split from her husband, Marc Anthony. Suddenly a single mother, Lopez lapped up the media attention and scored lucrative endorsement deals with companies like L’Oreal and Gillette. She now has a line of clothing at Kohl’s, a top-selling fragrance and she was able to secure a nice bump — to $20 million — on her’ Idol’ salary for a second season. Justin Bieber also held onto the #3 position he debuted in last year. The “Boyfriend” pop star earned an impressive $55 million in the last 12 months and garnered top 10 rankings elsewhere across the board, coming in at #3 in the Social Rank and #4 in the TV/Radio Rank. Her long list of chart-topping singles and the press attention around her divorce from Russell Brand, in addition to her strong Twitter presence and largely sold-out California Dreams world tour, were enough to push Katy Perry into the top 10 after debuting on the countdown last year at #12. She leaps six spots in this year’s ranking, placing at #6 with a not-too-shabby $45 million earned. Looking at the list and the various artists’ rankings in the five categories used to determine their placement, there’s a sense that the actual positions are more arbitrary than usual. For example, Lopez is #1 despite not ranking inside the top 10 in any of the categories (and is as low as #30 in money, #22 in press rank and #19 in social), while both Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber earned top 10 placement in all of them except the Money Rank, the top tier of which is dominated by multimedia moguls like Winfrey, Steven Spielberg (#10 overall), Simon Cowell (#18), Dr. Dre (#26), Howard Stern (#30) and Michael Bay (#35). First Lady Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey are not all smiles and buddy-buddy as they’d like us all to believe according to a new book titled “The Amateur: Barack Obama in the White House” by Ed Klein. The two female powerhouses have allegedly had some ugly beef before and after Barack Obama was elected president: Michelle allegedly insulted Oprah’s weight at one point, with Oprah claiming that the First Lady “hates fat people.” The book, due out this week, is excerpted in Sunday’s New York Post. When Obama gained Oprah’s endorsement for the 2008 presidential election, the talk show queen enjoyed a close relationship with both the future president and his wife. But once the election was over, the author claims that Michelle and her staff rudely pushed Oprah aside, while the president remained close to the talk show titan. In one particularly outrageous allegation, Klein writes that Michelle turned down Oprah’s invitation to appear on her TV show to discuss childhood obesity, one of many causes adopted by the First Lady. The book claims that Oprah then raged: “Michelle hates fat people and doesn’t want me waddling around the White House!” Klein, a regular contributor to Vanity Fair, follows that allegation with another bombshell, writing that Michelle told her staff: “Oprah, with her yo-yo dieting and huge girth, is a terrible role model. Kids will look at Oprah, who’s rich and famous and huge, and figure it’s OK to be fat.” But wait it gets nastier!! Oprah had some tricks up her sleeves too apparently… One unnamed source in Klein’s book even charges that Michelle believes Oprah allegedly encouraged Hillary Clinton to run against President Obama in the upcoming election. Klein and his sources contend that the President has remained close to Oprah but that Michelle started pushing her away shortly after the 2008 election, refusing to return calls and instead letting aides deal with Oprah. What’s more, as Oprah prepared to interview Michelle at that time, she was forced to get approval of her interview questions from Jeff Stephens. The book also contends that two of Michelle’s advisers were unhappy with Oprah’s influence and that the talk show host was so comfortable with her access to the President, she had a plan to redecorate the Lincoln bedroom! The author quotes sources close to Oprah claiming that Michelle is “very jealous” and lacks trust in her husband. These sources also contend that the president phones Oprah late at night and asks for advice to improve his popularity , a move that does not sit well with the First Lady. “Michelle thinks he should turn to her, not Oprah, for that kind of advice,” the book quotes an anonymous source. The President asked his wife to make peace with Oprah, sources tell the author, and that is why Michelle taped a May, 2011 interview for one of Oprah’s final shows. That peace offering has done nothing to stem the now-ingrained dislike that both women have for each other, according to Klein. DAYUM!!! Michelle was calling Oprah a chubby lumpkins behind her back and Oprah was trying to late night creep with Obama? This is sounding less like politics as usual and more like high-school drama. Dolla dolla bills ya’ll!!! A homeless man named Eddie saw Oprah Winfrey eating dinner on the patio of Scarpetta in Beverly Hills recently. Eddie asked her for a bowl of soup, and according to the New York Post’s spies, the media mogul did him one better: “Please, can we get him some money, get him a meal?” asked Oprah. As Scarpetta staff brought him a “feast,” one of Oprah’s dinner companions handed over a bunch of cash. Chef (and owner) Scott Conant posted the New York Post article on his Facebook page earlier that day. His only comment? “Wow!!” Scarpetta is a fine dining Italian restaurant where a plain (but delicious) tomato sauce spaghetti goes for $24. The restaurant has multiple locations across the country, and People points out that when Jay-Z ate at the Miami outpost in 2011, he left a $50,000 tip on a $250,000 bottle of champagne. Oprah’s generosity is legendary. In 2007, she founded the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls school in South Africa, which provides educational and leadership opportunities in a luxurious setting to underprivileged girls in the area. Throughout her talkshow, which ended in 2011, she emphasized charity and “paying it forward” as a sure-fire way to live the best life possible.
