UFO Cult Declares National Topless Day [PICS]

Well beam me up, Scotty, because I’m totally flying saucer-eyed right now! Thank you, thank you, we’ll be here all week. OK, let’s back up for a minute. National Topless Day is the brainchild of Rael, a former journalist and racecar driver who says aliens apeared to him on a hilltop on France in 1974 and told him that all life on Earth was created by extraterrestrials. Rael also claims the aliens told him that it was his divine mission to fight injustice- specifically, the skin justice of men being allowed to doff their tops in public while women’s watermelons must remain covered. Whatever you say, fella. In 2007, the space cult leader started www.go-topless.org, a site dedicated to rallying womankind to “FREE YOUR BREASTS! FREE YOUR MIND!”Believe it or not, there are women who have joined the cause, organizing topless marches and petitioning lawmakers to change the laws and make their states and cities officially “Top Free” (they’ve already succeeded in converting Columbus, Ohio, Portland, Oregon, Washington, DC and Austin, Texas, among other cities ). They’re planning a “Historical Boob March” on Washington (their words, not ours) on August 26, 2012, but in the meantime topless advocates must content themselves with marching in boob-friendly locales each year on National Topless Day. (In uh, “top slave” locales like Los Angeles, protestors glue fake nipples over their own in order to prove a point. The point being that they also saw The Change-Up ). This past Sunday the Raelians and their compatriots gathered to celebrate their annual festival of funbags, and you bet there were photographers there to document the liberated love muffins: We may have missed America’s National Topless Day, but our neighbors to the North still have the opportunity to ogle- er, show support for- the topless activists on August 28, 2011 for Canada National Go Topless Day in Vancouver and Toronto. And don’t forget to mark your calendars for the Topless March on Washington August 26, 2012!

Aubrey Wolters, 16 & Pregnant Cast Member, Suffering from Tumor

Aubrey Wolters has made headlines for plenty of things she can take the blame for, but not this. The 16 and Pregnant star has a tumor. The youngster has lost a visible amount of weight, but not from drug use or any other self-inflicted condition. She’s in a lot of pain. Wolters is suffering from a sizable tumor in her throat that has left her unable to eat or sleep, her mother, Shelly Wolters, reports. “It’s huge,” the elder Wolters says of her legally troubled daughter. “It’s almost the size of your fist. She has to get it taken out.” Aubrey recently made headlines for getting arrested for drugs and shoplifting at a Prescott Valley, Ariz., Walmart. She was cited for having pills without a valid prescription, as well as possession of dangerous drugs. Wolters says her daughter, who currently has no health insurance and so is unable to undergo treatment, will be returning to court to have her record expunged. She emphasizes that Aubrey was not charged with shoplifting. In the meantime, the most important thing is Aubrey’s health . Wolters says that her daughter was checked out by doctors at Oregon Health Science University who diagnosed the tumor as noncancerous. But because Aubrey doesn’t have insurance – and is a single mother trying to keep her apartment and hold down a job – she’s lived with it. “The last time I saw her she has a hard time sleeping, eating, breathing,” says Wolters. “It is something she needs to get taken care of but she wants to get a job to keep her apartment and raise Austin.” Aubrey, who is married to, but legally separated from her baby daddy, Brandon Akerill, has a one-year-old son, Austin Carter Akerill. “Trying to take care of yourself always seems to be at the bottom of the list,” Wolters lamented. “It’s affected her. She is not herself.” “She is good girl. She is just struggling like most new parents.” Wolters says that the pills found in Aubrey’s purse were Brandon’s Ritalin, and the so-called “dangerous drug” belonged to her friend. “Aubrey is really trying hard to be a single mom,” Wolters says. “She and Brandon broke up and she is working hard to raise Austin.”

Nicki Minaj On Grammys: ‘It Doesn’t Matter What I’m Nominated For!’

‘To sell, like, a million records, in this economy, that’s crazy,’ she tells MTV News on red carpet. By Ryan J. Downey, with reporting by Sway Calloway Nicki Minaj and Sway on the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards red carpet Photo: MTV News Nicki Minaj’s debut album took the top spot on the charts, she’s a Grammy nominee and presenter and she met up with her reality-TV heroine Snooki on the red carpet . But despite all the high points, the 26-year-old star assured MTV News that the best is yet to come. “In my head, I’ve already done two movies, I’ve already put my second album out, I’ve already gone on a world tour. That’s what I’m looking for the next 12 months to bring,” she said shortly before the 53rd annual Grammy Awards at the Los Angeles Staples Center, where she was nominated alongside Ludacris in the Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group category. “I have some surprises that people are not gonna believe. I have some surprises that I’m going to be able to announce really, really soon.” The hip-hop star’s Pink Friday reached #1 on the Billboard 200 chart nearly three months after its release. She’s done “Saturday Night Live” and “The Tonight Show,” and her leopard-print couture turned heads at the Grammys. It’s been a crazy ride and one that she’s learned from in ways that will benefit her greatly in the future. “I’ve learned to never rush anything in my career or my life anymore,” she said. “The last year taught me that. Like, even with the new album, it’s going to take its course naturally and everything is going to work out. Because before I used to stress out. You know, ‘Am I nominated for this?’ “It doesn’t matter what I’m nominated for! I’m working! I am a working artist in the freaking worst economy ever. To sell, like, a million records, in this economy, that’s crazy.” Next on the Young Money rapper’s agenda is a tour with mentor Lil Wayne that will also feature Blink-182’s Travis Barker and Rick Ross, among others. “I’m really looking forward to that tour,” she said. “And just getting back to L.A. and cranking out some new records and all of that good stuff. I’m working with a lot of new producers as well, so I’m excited.” Minaj’s schedule may get hectic, but she works hard to maintain balance and perspective. “Overall, I’m in a peaceful place. And that’s the only thing that you could ask for. To be in the midst of this chaotic business,” she added, pointing to the red carpet around her, “and be able to find peace? I’m good.” For Grammy Awards winners list, analysis, interviews, fashion and more, stick with MTV News during the big show and beyond. Esperanza Spalding Calls Best New Artist Grammy Win ‘Unexpected’

‘I really didn’t think it was going to be me,’ jazz singer/bassist tells MTV News of topping Justin Bieber and Drake for coveted award. By Kara Warner with reporting by Sway Calloway Esperanza Spalding wins Best New Artist at the 2011 Grammys Photo: Getty Images Who would’ve thought that a young jazz bassist would come in and steal the Best New Artist Grammy out from under the likes of Justin Bieber, Florence and the Machine and Drake? Not too many people, that’s for sure. In fact, gambling mavens Ladbrokes and Bodog placed the odds of Esperanza Spalding winning the award at an unlikely 20-to-1 . Check out photos of Esperanza Spalding’s big win and more! But she did it, and she is the first jazz artist ever to do so. “I really didn’t think it was going to be me,” a delighted Spalding told MTV News after her win. “I was one of those [surprised] people. … It was so unexpected, that’s the truth. I’m grateful to all my people in my big musical family that have given me so much support and help over the years,” Spalding gushed. “I don’t really think this is for me; it’s for all of us. And I wish they could all be here to put one finger on this with me.” Since we’re still reeling over the fact that Spalding overcame the tsunami of popularity currently surrounding her fellow nominees, it’s time to take a closer look at this mega underdog-turned-big winner. The 26-year-old Portland, Oregon, native discovered music at an early age, teaching herself to play the violin at age 5 and playing with the Chamber Music Society of Oregon. She dabbled in the guitar, the oboe and cello before settling on the bass in high school. After putting in time in at both Portland State University and the prestigious Berklee College of Music on scholarships, she broke onto the jazz scene in a big way with her album Chamber Music Society. Though Spalding was primarily known in jazz circles, her Best New Artist Grammy will surely put her on the proverbial music map for a new group of fans. “I am a bassist, composer and singer,” Spalding explained to MTV News. “I guess that’s the easiest way to describe the music I do. You really just have to hear it. It’s rooted in jazz, but there’s a lot of stuff up in there. You just have to have a taste.” Not only that, but Spalding joined music legend Prince on his Welcome 2 America Tour . She’s also performed at the White House and was featured in an ad campaign for Banana Republic. What did you think of Esperanza’s win? Let us know in the comments!
