Will L.A. Reid Get OutKast To Finally Drop An Album Together?

Visit link:

OutKast fans have not had an album from the group since 2006’s Idlewild soundtrack. With Andre 3000 shifting his attention to acting, listeners have had to settle for the occasional guest verse from 3-Stacks. His partner Big Boi has been enjoying a great solo career, but there is nothing quite like having the two of them together. Rumors of a possible reunion have been recurring like a bad rash over the years, but nothing has materialized. However, Organized Noize’s Rico Wade has reason to believe that a reunion between the player and the poet could be closer to reality than we think. In speaking to TheUrbandaily about his new collaborative album with Nappy Roots, Nappy.org , Wade revealed than the pieces may finally be in place for a new OutKast album. “Keeping it really real, L.A. Reid–and I’m not sure if he’s all the way in– he’s going to be at Epic . Epic has Jive and Jive has OutKast,” says Wade. “It is very real sh*t. But it’s about Andre 3000, is he gonna do it. [Well] Andre’s been calling me lately. He’s ready to go in. Us working with Nappy Roots has kept the creativity going [for me]. And Big Boi’s a worker.” Wade and his Organized Noize production team are responsible for some of the best songs that OutKast has ever recorded, including their entire debut Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik , released on Reid’s LaFace Records. With the Goodie Mob also reuniting, the timing couldn’t be better for the Dungeon Family to serve up some more soul food. “We were just together on the 4th of July talking about it but I ain’t sent no beats to them or nothing,” says Wade. “We need the five of us to get together and vibe. I’m supposed to meet with L.A Reid this week. If Antonio is involved he’s a great motivator.” L.A. Reid Goes To Epic Label Group! L.A. Atlanta’s Own Goodie Mob Gives The “Dirty South” Its Name [THROWBACK THURSDAY]

Continued here:

Atlanta is considered a hotbed of hip hop these days, but that wasn’t the case in 1995. ATL’s own Dungeon Family crew would change that forever. Consisting of OutKast, Goodie Mob, Cool Breeze, Witchdoctor, producers Organized Noize and others, the Dungeon Family put real Atlanta hip hop on the map. Before Cee-Lo blew up with Gnarls Barkley and the song “F*ck You,” the SW ATL native was an integral member of Goodie Mob, along with Big Gipp, T-Mo and Khujo. Not only did the Dungeon Family redefine Southern hip hop forever, Goodie Mob actually gave the South its name with its 1995 hit single “Dirty South” from the group’s critically-acclaimed debut album, Soul Food. The song’s intro is a skit of a house raid by the controversial Red Dog drug police unit, which was recently disbanded . Big Boi from OutKast is featured on the song while Cool Breeze does the hook. Now considered a hip hop legend, Big wasn’t even old enough to drink when “Dirty South” dropped: “…year older / now I’m almost legal…” Goodie Mob – Dirty South by PeteRock RELATED: Cee Lo Says Goodie Mob Is 10 Tracks Deep Into Reunion Album RELATED: “Still A Summer Jam..Always A Classic!”- ThrowBack Thursday RELATED: “Before Cell Phones, There Were Beepers..Baby!” – #ThrowBackThursday RELATED: DJ Drama Interviews Goodie Mob RELATED: EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Big Boi Talks Solo Album, OutKast Label Drama

‘VH1 Hip Hop Honors’ To Give Dirty South Its Props

By Shaheem Reid Drake Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images “VH1 Hip Hop Honors: The Dirty South” promises fans energetic performances by some of rap’s all-time greats, when the latest installment in the tribute series airs Monday night (June 7). This year’s show is dedicated to hip-hop originating from down bottom: Luther Campbell and his Miami group the 2 Live Crew; producers Jermaine Dupri, Organized Noize and Timbaland; J. Prince and the Houston-based Rap-A-Lot music empire; and Master P and the No Limit soldiers who turned New Orleans on its ear. “Tonight is gonna be historical,” DJ Khaled told MTV News last week as the show taped at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom. “To be a part of a historical moment like this … I been with [Rick] Ross, I seen Bun B, I seen Luke. I seen Pitbull, Trina, Goodie Mob. Just the rehearsal alone, I had goose bumps. This is big for the South — this is big for music period.” Among the acts honoring this year’s class are Khaled and Ross, Paul Wall, Lil Jon, Drake, Trina, Pitbull, Nelly and the St. Lunatics, as well as Diddy and Gucci Mane. Meanwhile, T.I. and Jonah Hill participated as presenters; Craig Robinson hosts. “Just being in jail three weeks ago, that was so big for me,” Gucci told Miss Info about his involvement in the ceremony. “No pressure. Everything is downhill from there,” he told the media personality. “Nothing bigger than … getting your freedom back. I don’t have nothing to prove.” During rehearsals last week, Silkk the Shocker said he was proud of what his brother, Master P, had accomplished . “With me, first of all, shouts out to him, ’cause I got to see greatness for a long time,” Silkk said. “It’s very good to finally see him get honored for it. And then, I think a lot of people out there also appreciate what he’s done. I perform all the time, but to actually perform and give back to him and show him what he means to us, that’s amazing for me.” P told MTV News that one of his greatest contributions was selling so many records without the backing of a major label. “When it comes down to putting out records, people are afraid. They say, ‘I don’t want to put out too many records,’ ” P explained of the conventional rationale. “My thing was, with No Limit, when you’re hot, you’re hot, you give ’em whatever you can give ’em. That’s what I teach my family: When you got ’em, give it to ’em, ’cause when you got a fanbase, feed that fanbase. There’s no such thing as too much music. We accomplished something that nobody did, to be able to sell 75 million records independently and to be honored for hip-hop is a blessing and lets you know we been dong the right thing.” Some of the can’t-miss moments on this year’s “Hip Hop Honors” are Bow Wow dressed up like Kris Kross to perform the JD-produced classic “Jump,” and the lively return of Mystikal during P’s “Make ‘Em Say Ugh.” Whose set are you most looking forward to?
