Gangster Squad does not look like it will be coming to a theater near you any time soon. In the wake of the mass shooting at a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colo., an industry insider tells Movieline that Warner executives are expected to decide today whether to reschedule the release of the Ruben Fleischer-directed film about the L.A. police departments war against the organized crime in the 1940s and 50s. And the insider says odds the picture–which stars Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn and Josh Brolin–will keep its Sept.7 release date are pretty long. EW.com reported that the studio pulled the Gangster Squad trailer, which had played before some screenings of TKDR film and ordered it re-cut because of a scene in which mobsters fire machine guns at a crowd of moviegoers. The site also noted that the scene, which is pivotal to the plot, would either be cut or “at least extensively reworked.” That means script re-writes and re-shoots, and our insider says “a lot depends on the how quick the fix can be made.” Given that the film’s original release date is a little over a month away, the source says it’s looking increasingly likely that the release date will be moved.
OutKast fans have not had an album from the group since 2006’s Idlewild soundtrack. With Andre 3000 shifting his attention to acting, listeners have had to settle for the occasional guest verse from 3-Stacks. His partner Big Boi has been enjoying a great solo career, but there is nothing quite like having the two of them together. Rumors of a possible reunion have been recurring like a bad rash over the years, but nothing has materialized. However, Organized Noize’s Rico Wade has reason to believe that a reunion between the player and the poet could be closer to reality than we think. In speaking to TheUrbandaily about his new collaborative album with Nappy Roots, Nappy.org , Wade revealed than the pieces may finally be in place for a new OutKast album. “Keeping it really real, L.A. Reid–and I’m not sure if he’s all the way in– he’s going to be at Epic . Epic has Jive and Jive has OutKast,” says Wade. “It is very real sh*t. But it’s about Andre 3000, is he gonna do it. [Well] Andre’s been calling me lately. He’s ready to go in. Us working with Nappy Roots has kept the creativity going [for me]. And Big Boi’s a worker.” Wade and his Organized Noize production team are responsible for some of the best songs that OutKast has ever recorded, including their entire debut Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik , released on Reid’s LaFace Records. With the Goodie Mob also reuniting, the timing couldn’t be better for the Dungeon Family to serve up some more soul food. “We were just together on the 4th of July talking about it but I ain’t sent no beats to them or nothing,” says Wade. “We need the five of us to get together and vibe. I’m supposed to meet with L.A Reid this week. If Antonio is involved he’s a great motivator.” L.A. Reid Goes To Epic Label Group! L.A. That’s a pretty big growing operation considering that they were in New York. The NYPD helped seize $10 million worth of pot plants from upstate hydroponic farms and arrest more than a dozen people. A strike force of federal agents, city cops and Sullivan County police swooped down on five homes two hours north of Manhattan. Officials said the ring distributed the pot mostly in New York City, but dealt as far away as Philadelphia. Each plant produced a pound of pot worth anywhere from $600 to $1,200 on the street. Sixteen people, including 14 undocumented immigrants from South America, were arrested on federal drug charges during the sweep by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Strike Force. The suspects were awaiting arraignment in U.S. District Court in White Plains on Wednesday. Authorities were tipped off while a detective from the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office and Drug Enforcement Administration agents were checking out suspected drug locations. They investigated a car parked outside one of the locations – and immediately smelled marijuana. “The odor was pungent,” said a law enforcement source. “It was so strong there was no mistake.” After interviewing the men inside the car, agents armed with federal search warrants hit five locations in Mamakating, Lumberland and Highland townships. Man those undocumented workers from South America probably had that bomb batch of chronic! Source
