Bad Movies We Love: The Room

What do you say about the film that says it all? How can words add anything to this towering cinematic fortress of prestige? Is it wrong to “describe” senselessness? I’m a valiant first-time viewer of Tommy Wiseau’s 2003 dada vortex, and I’m going to attempt to convey the whimsical hemorrhage I just experienced. Spoiler: I ain’t Jill Bolte Taylor , and I won’t succeed at this feat. Here’s to a good effort.

Simon Cowell Wants ‘X Factor’ To ‘Find The New Lady Gaga’

Ex ‘Idol’ judge also offers audition advice to contestants during Twitter Q&A with fans. By James Dinh Simon Cowell Photo: Ian Derry / FOX Simon Cowell has said that contestants who want to take home the $5 million prize on “X Factor” must bring a wave of originality to the table. In fact, the former “American Idol” judge is hoping to find a star so innovative that the winner will be able to compete as “the new Lady Gaga.” On Tuesday (March 22), Cowell took to Twitter to participate in a live Q&A chat with fans, and gave up even more details about “X Factor.” “We hope 2 find an artist who can compete with people in the charts. Would love to find the new Lady Gaga. No Rules,” he wrote of the reality show, which is set to debut this September. As for how contestants can go about pulling off an innovative audition, Cowell tweeted, “My [advice] is to find unique version of a well known song IE Gracen doing Lady Gaga made him stand out,” referring to YouTube star Greyson Chance . Cowell also opened up about why he selected music executive L.A. Reid for a spot on the judges’ panel. “He’s the No1 Hit maker in the world. Judges get to mentor 3 contestants each in the final. He will make a great mentor,” he said in another tweet. And while reports seem to suggest that Mariah Carey has passed on a seat at the judges’ table, Cowell revealed that Cheryl Cole (one of the judges on the U.K. version) is still “in the mix,” adding that he hopes to reveal the names of the two remaining judges “very shortly.” Asked what most excited about bringing the singing reality show Stateside, Cowell replied: “Finding a Star. Launching the new show. I miss judging in America!” For “American Idol” fans planning to follow Cowell to “X Factor,” the Brit was quick to point out a few differences in the guidelines between his new and former talent show. Not only is the starting age limit lower than most shows (12 years old), but there is no upper age limit. “X Factor” also allows groups to compete in the show, with the winner taking home the $5 million prize. So what happens if “X Factor” fails to live up to all the hype and headlines surrounding the series? Cowell has a plan. “Book a fast flight home.. !” he joked. Are you excited for the U.S. version of “X Factor”? Tell us in the comments!

‘Hunger Games’ Experts Weigh In: Who Should Play Peeta?

Josh Hutcherson, Alex Pettyfer and Hunter Parrish appear to be the front-runners, but nothing is confirmed yet. By Christina Garibaldi Alex Pettyfer Photo: Getty Images Last week, MTV News exclusively revealed that Oscar-nominated actress Jennifer Lawrence landed the highly coveted role of Katniss Everdeen in the film adaptation of “The Hunger Games.” Experts and fans were mixed on the thought of the tall, blond 20-year-old taking on the role of the 16-year-old, dark-haired heroine, but it seems like Jennifer can rest easy for now, since the debate has shifted to who will play fellow Hunger Games competitor Peeta. “It’s definitely going to be someone close to her age,” Down With the Capitol administrator Theresa Morgan told MTV News. “I think it will make it easier to cast someone for Peeta.” Many names have already been thrown into the mix, including “The Kids Are All Right” star Josh Hutcherson , who confessed he has met with director Gary Ross. “I love Peeta,” Hutcherson told Entertainment Weekly. “The character is so much who I am — self-deprecating, a people person. And he’d be such a great character to play!” Hutcherson seems to be a front-runner for the District 12 male tribute, but he will have some stiff competition from Alex Pettyfer and fan favorite Hunter Parrish . “We love Josh Hutcherson,” the Hob administrator Megan Scott said. “There’s Alex, who I really like, but Hunter is a huge fan favorite. When I think of these guys with Jennifer, they all go well together.” “Our whole site thinks Hunter will be perfect,” Morgan said. “He looks the role and acts the role. A lot of people are thinking he sounds like Peeta.” Ross might agree, since Parrish recently told E! Online he has met with the movie’s producers. “I’d be grateful to get the opportunity,” he said. “Like, really grateful. It would be amazing.” Not everyone’s convinced that these leading contenders are right for the coveted “Hunger Games” role. “My favorite for Peeta is Callan McAuliffe,” Mockingjay.net administrator Kimmy West said about the “I Am Number Four” newcomer. “I think he has the acting chops, he’s relatively unknown, and he has that warm quality that Peeta has.” Who do you think should get the role of Peeta in “The Hunger Games”? Darren Aronofsky Won’t Direct ‘The Wolverine’

Director cites lengthy production schedule as reason for leaving Hugh Jackman-starring film. By Kara Warner Darren Aronofsky Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images The second “Wolverine” film is quickly becoming as unpredictable and complex as its titular character. It was reported Thursday (March 17) that Oscar-nominated director Darren Aronofsky will not be helming the pic after all. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Aronofsky has dropped out due to the film’s lengthy production schedule overseas. “As I talked more about the film with my collaborators at Fox, it became clear that the production of ‘The Wolverine’ would keep me out of the country for almost a year,” Aronofsky said in a joint statement with Fox, the studio releasing the film. “I was not comfortable being away from my family for that length of time. I am sad that I won’t be able to see the project through, as it is a terrific script and I was very much looking forward to working with my friend, Hugh Jackman, again,” he said. Aronofsky or no, Fox said it supports the “Black Swan” director’s decision but still plans to move forward and make the film with Jackman firmly attached to those famous adamantium claws. “While we are of course disappointed that Darren can’t do ‘The Wolverine,’ we also understand and respect his reasons. Having done both ‘The Wrestler’ and ‘Black Swan’ with Darren, we know he is an extraordinary talent and we look forward to working with him on other projects in the future. Hugh Jackman and Fox both remain fully committed to making ‘The Wolverine.’ We will regroup and move forward aggressively.” What do you think of Aronofsky’s decision? Tell us in the comments!
