Is Marion Cotillard Joining ‘The Dark Knight Rises’?

The French press reports that the Oscar-winning actress has accepted a role in director Christopher Nolan’s next “Batman” movie. By Eric Ditzian Marion Cotillard Photo: Todd Williamson/ Getty Images Are Christopher Nolan’s “Inception” dreams still haunting him as he turns his focus to casting “The Dark Knight Rises” ? Following the signing of Tom Hardy to play the villain Bane in the next installment of the “Batman” franchise and news that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was in talks to join the production, new reports suggest a third star of Nolan’s dream-world thriller could well land in Gotham City, too. According to stories originating in the French press, Marion Cotillard is set to join “Dark Knight Rises.” People magazine, citing unnamed sources, contends that the Oscar-winning actress, who is pregnant and expecting a baby in the spring with French actor/director Guillaume Canet, signed on to the film on Saturday in Paris. A source close to Cotillard, meanwhile, told MTV News that “there’s nothing to the report.” MTV News’ request for comment to Warner Bros. was not returned as of press time. There has long been talk that “The Dark Knight Rises” would rope in two central female characters. Anne Hathaway has already hopped aboard the production to play Selina Kyle, the well-known character in comics lore who is the alter-ego of Catwoman. Previous reports about actresses in contention for the film did not mention Cotillard; the names included Hathaway, Keira Knightley, Jessica Biel, Kate Mara and Charlotte Riley . The rumored second female role has not yet been filled, unless the Cotillard reports prove true. According to People ‘s sources, the French-born actress will begin shooting in London in mid-June — after the birth of her child — before traveling to Pittsburgh and Los Angeles this summer for further filming. Widely expected to be Nolan’s third and final “Batman” flick, “The Dark Knight Rises” is expected to begin production in the spring with an eye on a July 20, 2012, release date. ‘I Don’t Know What the Hell I’m Doing,’ and 8 Other Epiphanies From Sir Anthony Hopkins

Holding court for an assembly of journalists yesterday in Los Angeles, Sir Anthony Hopkins gamely talked up his upcoming thriller The Rite , in which he plays a seasoned Jesuit exorcist mentoring a skeptical seminary student (newcomer Colin O’D onoghue) in Rome. Sitting across from the Oscar-winning actor, one thing was clear: At 73, Sir Anthony has, to borrow from Plato, achieved a great sense of calm and freedom. Like, the freedom to do whatever the hell he wants, whether it’s starring last year in Woody Allen’s You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger , getting hairy in the uber flop The Wolfman , making a special appearance in low-budget B-movies about female cage fighters , or playing a Norse god in this summer’s big-budget Marvel adaptation Thor .

Guy Pearce on The King’s Speech, Animal Kingdom and Christopher Nolan’s Shy Years

Guy Pearce wouldn’t mind not being in an Oscar-winning film for a change. Not to say that he’s not fully behind The King’s Speech (or even the dark horse Animal Kingdom ), but considering that his work in those films involve limited screen time — not unlike his role in last year’s Best Picture-winning The Hurt Locker — “good-luck cameo” isn’t a role Pearce necessarily wants to get used to.

Quentin Tarantino Fears His ‘Big Chin’ Will Be Roast Target

‘I’m not going to give them any ammunition!’ director tells MTV News before Friars Club roast. By Eric Ditzian Quentin Tarantino Photo: MTV News Far too early on a rainy and cold Wednesday morning (December 1) in Midtown Manhattan, Quentin Tarantino and his friends gathered for an infamous Friars Club roast. Afterward, the Oscar-winning writer/director may no longer be friends with the folks who hurled barbs his way, but on the pre-roast red carpet, everyone was in good spirits. As Tarantino walked the carpet before the festivities, he was determined not to let his pals know what was most “roast-able” about him. “I’m not going to give them any ammunition! If Sarah Silverman hasn’t realized I have a big chin, I’m not going to bring it up right now,” he laughed to MTV News. Silverman, a veteran of Comedy Central roasts, was just a few feet away and admitted, “I have no good chin jokes!” “I’m not going to feed you any right now!” he told her. OK, so he might be a little sensitive about that chin. But going after sensitive territory is exactly what roasts are all about. Just take it from director Eli Roth. “You have to find the most personal, sensitive thing that he doesn’t want anybody to know and exploit it to the fullest,” he explained. “When you give a speech at a roast, it should end your career. I want people to go, ‘Eli went too far. That was not funny. That was sick.’ I want people to be offended.” Perhaps some people will be offended by the story radio shock-jock Howard Stern related to us. “[Tarantino] came on my show and was casually talking about smoking hash with Brad Pitt. Quentin went to Brad Pitt’s house to convince him to be in ‘Inglourious Basterds’ and then they started talking about hash. I think Brad had some agreement with his wife that he wasn’t going to smoke and all hell broke loose.” Comedian Jeffrey Ross certainly knew what he was doing when he told us one joke he’s got lined up for the roast: “Have you ever seen his forehead? His next movie is premiering on it.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Lovely, Still’s Martin Landau on Acting Style and the Similarities Between Alfred Hitchcock and Woody Allen

An interview with Martin Landau really shouldn’t be called that — more than just a simple Q&A, it’s as though you’re sitting in on an Actor’s Studio session taught by the 82-year-old actor. Though my talk with Landau this week was pegged to the release of Lovely, Still , a new indie film where he finds late-in-life romance with Ellen Burstyn, it took no time before he began discussing the very nature of acting itself using some of his most famous roles as examples — including his Oscar-winning turn as Bela Lugosi in Ed Wood and his characters in Alfred Hitchcock’s North By Northwest and Woody Allen’s Crimes and Misdemeanors . In fact, when it comes to actors, it turns out that Hitchcock and Allen have more in common than you might expect.
