Bethenny Frankel Insists: I Was Lost at Sea!

Bethenny Frankel is sticking to her story, and she’s going above and beyond Twitter to do it. After refuting the accusation that she lied about getting lost at sea last month – Bethenny told E! News in mid-September that the GPS on her boat malfunctioned and she underwent a “scary” endeavor that involved a call to the Coast Guard for help – Frankel has opened up even more to Us Weekly about the incident and subsequent allegation of deception. “The whole thing has been really upsetting,” Frankel said . “You have to spend 24 hours of your life defending your honesty to your fans. [These stories are] irresponsible journalism and… a waste of your time.” This does, of course, beg the question: Bethenny Frankel has fans?!? Naturally, Bravo is sticking by its reality star. The network has issued the following statement: “It is accurate that Bethenny, Jason and their therapist were stranded at sea when the navigation on their boat broke during a taping for [the show]. The Coast Guard referred a private tow vessel who eventually led their boat out. When people see the episode, they will certainly see for themselves that this was very real.” Hey, what do you know: a plug for the episode! Now we totally believe this went down as Frankel claims.

Robert Downey Jr. Calls for Forgiveness of Mel Gibson

Robert Downey Jr. was honored at the American Cinematheque Awards last night, as numerous colleagues and friends made speeches in honor of the Oscar nominee and acknowledged the substance abuse-laden journey he took to arrive at the top of Hollywood. But when it came time to take the stage himself, Downey shifted the focus to the man who introduced him: Mel Gibson. “Mel and I have the same lawyer, same publicist and same shrink,” Downey said of his Air America co-star. “I couldn’t get hired and he cast me. He said if I accepted responsibility – he called it hugging the cactus – long enough my life would take meaning and if he helped me I would help the next guy. But it was not reasonable to assume the next guy would be him.” Speaking about Gibson – whose anti-Semitic and anti-Oksana Grigorieva tirades have been made very public over the recent years – The Avengers star added: “Unless you are without sin, and if you are you are in the wrong f-ckin industry, you should forgive him and let him work.” Do you agree, readers? Should we forgive Mel Gibson?

Chaz Bono on Dancing With the Stars: The End of the Journey?

Monday’s Dancing With the Stars performances captured a critical year in the life of each participant. For J.R. Martinez , that year was 2003, when he was wounded in Iraq. For Chaz Bono, the most defining year has been this one. Bono said ’11 has been his most meaningful because “I’m happier than I’ve ever been,” then danced a rumba to a song that his father wrote, “Laugh at Me.” Its message: “If you have a problem with me, then it’s your problem, not mine.” Chaz Bono on Dancing With the Stars (Week 3) Unfortunately for the 42-year-old activist, who’s drawn both ire and support as the first transgendered contestant on Dancing With the Stars , his positive attitude, courage and charisma simply don’t translate to dancing skills. His score of 18 landed him in last place for the second straight week, three full points behind the next lowest total. Barring an upset, he’ll be out the door tonight. If so, he’ll do so what his held high. What more can one ask for?

Kate Winslet Will Not Sling Feces

Kate Winslet really has no idea how to play this celebrity gossip game. She is supposed to get divorced, talk trash about her ex and maybe make a sex tape with a new boyfriend, only to complain about how it got out and then star in a reality show. Instead, the Oscar winner has to be all mature and grounded, as evidenced by her interview in the latest issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK . Asked about ex-husband Sam Mendes (the pair divorced in March 2010), Winslet replied: “It’s fine, it’s really fine. I’m not going to s***fling, there’s no point in even going there… We’re grown-ups at the end of the day, and however hard it’s been for me, it’s been equally hard for him. And we have a child together who we both love – and raising him together, jointly and without any conflict, is absolutely key.” Come on, Kate. What are we supposed to do with that?!? After struggling for a period of time following the split, the actress now says “I do truly feel that I’m back,” adding: “I feel that I’m just at the beginning of a new narrative, and it’s incredibly exciting. It’s complicated, I know, and uncertain – but it’s where life happens, between the cracks. It can be a painful process, but I truly hope that never stops for me.” Winslet was mostly recently seen in Contagion and will next appear in Carnage opposite Jodie Foster.

Awww, how nice. Couple BFFs Hovvy Hov, BeyBey, Gwyn Gwyn, and Chris Chris shared good times for Gwyneth’s 39th birthday: On Monday, the Oscar winner and her husband, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, 34, enjoyed an intimate dinner at Tertulia, a new Spanish restaurant in NYC’s West Village. Happy 61st Birthday, Bill Murray! What’s His Most Underrated Moment?

Though I like arguing on behalf of underrated performers ( Melanie Griffith , for example), sometimes it’s more fun to commemorate our indisputably great actors. Bill Murray is the ne plus ultra of deadpan comic delivery — salty as the Dead Sea, dry as Death Valley, and great in almost everything. He’s 61 today, which means it’s our duty to shine light upon his more underrated moments in movies. What’s your pick?

Jane Fonda Biographer Patricia Bosworth on the Actress, Her Movies, and the Horny Prowess of Henry Fonda

At age 74, Jane Fonda still beams with a dogged courage that has fueled her cinematic, political, and entrepreneurial endeavors. Biographer Patricia Bosworth would know firsthand, having met the two-time Oscar winner during their thespian days with Lee Strasberg in New York City’s Actors Studio. For four decades Bosworth has studied the shapeshifting Fonda, and when it came time in the early 2000s to write her biography, Fonda agreed to interview with the woman who had, by that time, written tomes about Montgomery Clift and Marlon Brando.

Jason Biggs Unleashes the One Reese Witherspoon Tweet You’ll Need

Jason Biggs, who was already our favorite Twitter celebrity (er, celebrity on Twitter?), put the news of Reese Witherspoon getting hit by a car and sustaining minor injuries in perspective last night. Since the Oscar-winner is out of the hospital and hopefully in tiptop Tracy Flick form, we like to think Mr. Biggs’s quip registers as playful sarcasm. Ahem: “I just heard the news about Reese Witherspoon doing a voice in ‘Cars 3’. Wow!” [ @BiggsJason ]
