How does one let something like this happen?!? The family of a 79-year-old dialysis patient is suing a Florida nurse who accidentally gave him a deadly dose of a drug that induces paralysis, instead of an antacid. “The hospital killed my dad,” said Marc Smith of Miami, Fla., whose father went into cardiac arrest after the nurse’s mistake at North Shore Medical Center in Miami. Richard Smith, who had a history of kidney disease, had been admitted to the ICU after a dialysis session where he experienced severe shortness of breath. The next day, July 30, 2010, he complained of an upset stomach, so the doctor prescribed the antacid. Marc Smith came by to visit that morning, and found his dad “unconscious, unresponsive and on a respirator.” “The nurse said my dad had coded. I said, ‘He coded? When did that happen?’” Smith looked at his dad’s chart, and found his father had been resuscitated about 10 minutes earlier. “The nurse basically told me, ‘Talk to the doctor,” Marc Smith said. When he did, he says, the doctor told him, “I’m sorry to have to tell you this but the nurse administered the wrong medication and sent your dad into respiratory arrest. He said the packaging looked the same and he grabbed the wrong package,” Marc Smith recalled. Uvo Ologboride, the nurse named in the lawsuit, had given Smith pancuronium. The drug, which is typically used during intubations, acts as a muscle relaxant and paralytic. In higher doses, pancuronium is used to administer lethal injections. Thirty minutes later, Smith was found unresponsive. Although doctors were able to revive Richard Smith, he was brain dead. He remained in a vegetative state until he died a month later. Wow. C’mon son. They knew they were out of pocket for this one. Parents at a Florida elementary school are up in arms after a Hooters waitress was brought in to talk about her job to a group of special needs kids during a career event. “It’s just the wrong message,” Ashley Dominicci, 32, whose son is a sixth-grader at Calvin A. Hunsinger School in Clearwater, told the St. Petersburg Times. “I feel like we’re telling them (the students) that you’re the bad kids, and this is all you’ll be in life.” Dominicci said she wasn’t knocking the busty wing-slingers – “They’re very hard-working,” she said — but that she thought students at the school should set higher goals for themselves. School principal Stephani Bessette told Dominicci in an email that the point of waitress Brittany Morgan’s appearance was to show that working at a restaurant was a good way to pay for college, the Times reported. “Working as a waiter or waitress in order to achieve higher goals should be commended,” Bessette wrote, according to the Times. Morgan said she understood why parents might be upset, but that there wasn’t anything inappropriate about her talk. Besides, she left the hot pants and tank top at home. “Most of us are going to school,” Morgan told the Times. “We’re aspiring to do other things in life. This isn’t our career.” Earlier this month, parents at a California elementary school were similarly outraged after adult film star Sasha Grey read a book a group of first- and -third grade students during a literacy event. According to TMZ reports : Wesley Snipes never left home without his American Express card — problem is, he never paid his $30,000 bill before he went to prison … this according to a new lawsuit. The credit card company filed legal docs in Florida last week, insisting the imprisoned actor racked up a massive credit card bill as a free man, totaling $29,343.03 … and now AmEx is out for payback, plus interest. But it doesn’t end there — AmEx also wants Snipes to cover their attorney fees for the legal shakedown. As we previously reported, Snipes is currently serving a 3-year sentence for tax evasion — after allegedly failing to file tax returns for millions of dollars worth of income. He’s expected to be released in 2013. Oscar de la Hoya encouraged model Angelica Marie Cecora to help him do cocaine using a body part other than his nose during an alleged, kinky romp at Manhattan’s Ritz Carlton hotel last March, she told Page Six. Cecora also claimed to us that the ex-boxing champ revealed to her he was molested by a female staffer in high school. “He opened up to me about how he lost his virginity,” says Cecora, who’s filed a $5 million suit through lawyer Tony Evans against the fighter for emotional distress, false imprisonment, assault and battery. “He told me that he didn’t have a lot of friends [growing up], and a lot of bullies would fight with him.” As a result, she says De la Hoya told her he was sent to a staffer’s office regularly who told him to “sit on her lap.” “He said this was the way he lost his virginity,” Cecora said. The New York model added that, during De la Hoya’s alleged “cocaine-fueled confessions,” he asked her to help him absorb the drug through a private body area. “He indicated he wanted [it that way],” she said. “I realized I was a victim,” Cecora said, explaining why she waited until now to come forward with her story. “ He took advantage of me. I wanted to stop him from doing this to other people.” The “Golden Boy’s” lawyer had this to say about Angelica and her claims against his client: “I am not going to debase myself or my client by engaging in a public relations war about this stupidity. Let’s see what the judge has to say.” Thing is, Oscar already publicly copped to doing drugs and cross-dressing so the idea that he held this woman hostage doesn’t exactly sound like a stretch of the truth. Here’s is the ad for Marc Jacobs’ new fragrance Lola, featuring 17-year-old Dakota Fanning . Do you think this picture is inappropriate? The British sure do… A print ad featuring the teen actress has been banned in Great Britain after being deemed too “sexually provocative.” In the ad, an innocent-looking Dakota, dressed in a frilly pink dress, holds a giant bottle of Marc Jacobs’ Oh, Lola! perfume between her thighs. Four complaints were lodged from readers offended with the ad, which was enough for the Advertising Standard’s Authority to pull the campaign. Here is part of the ASA ruling’s: “The length of her dress, her leg and position of the perfume bottle drew attention to her sexuality. Because of that, along with her appearance, we considered the ad could be seen to sexualise a child. We therefore concluded that the ad was irresponsible and was likely to cause serious offence.” Coty Inc., the company that manufactures the fragrance, argued it was “provoking, but not indecent” and didn’t show any “private body parts or sexual activity.” Regardless of their plea, the ASA has banned it from being published in any U.K. publication. Model and television personality Liza Irizarry is pressing charges against the Victoria’s Secret model for assaulting her last weekend in Miami. And get this. It was all over BET “106 & Park” host Terrence J! “I was in Miami this weekend doing a show for Telemundo,” Liza told BOSSIP.com. “Around Sunday morning at 5 am I ran into Terrence J, who I’m cool with at Club Dream on South Beach Miami. He was walking out and I was walking in. I said hi and gave him a kiss on the cheek and kept walking. Selita Ebanks just so happened to be right behind him walking out. She got upset and said ‘Don’t be kissing my man,’ I went on to say ‘I don’t care he’s my friend’ that’s when she swung at me and all hell broke lose.” Damn Selita. Really??? According to Liza, Selita and her friends jumped her when she swung back. Well, they can now breathe a collective sigh of relief. Breezy has left the building…for good! According to TMZ reports : Chris Brown is waving the white flag, because we found out he moved out of the West Hollywood condo in which he was at war with his neighbors. Brown’s neighbors were complaining bitterly that he was parking in handicapped spots, playing music at ear-shattering levels at all hours of the night and even defacing property. Brown has denied committing any misdeeds. Neighbors tell us …. they’re “ecstatic” to see him go … but Chris has not sold the unit, and we don’t know his plans. Damn Chris, don’t let them white folks run you out of ya own home!! Speaking of “Oh Happy Day” this is always good for a laugh…
