Drake’s Says His Critics ‘Let Me Know That I’m Relevant’

‘It’s important for me to let my fans know I really don’t care. I’m confident,’ Drake tells MTV News of how he deals with constant criticism. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Drake Photo: MTV News Drake understands that no artist is above criticism. So it’s not that Drizzy doesn’t hear his detractors, he just chooses to ignore them. At least that’s what he told MTV News’ Sway Calloway during a May 17 Club Paradise tour stop in Houston, Texas. “There will be days when I walk in an arena and people will cheer and then there might be days when I walk in an arena and people might boo, but it all sounds the same to me because it’s all just noise that lets me know that I’m relevant,” Drake said, sharing some words of wisdom that was given to him by boxing champ Floyd Mayweather. “I don’t get booed,” Drizzy continued. “I don’t face that. I mean he faces that challenge but my challenge is more with social media and open opinions and people just feeling like they need to talk.” Drake’s music, and just about his every move, is dissected through the media as well as on Twitter and blogs. The fact that he sings as well as raps has made him a target for those looking to take away his hip-hop cred. Still, the “Headlines” MC remains one of rap’s most successful draws today. Common called him out the OVO general on “Sweet,” a single from his 2011 album The Dreamer/The Believer . Many also believe that G.O.O.D Music’s Pusha T has also been throwing subliminal jabs at Drake, first on last year’s “Don’t F–k With Me” freestyle, then on his “Sweet” freestyle. Pusha has gone on record saying that he wasn’t dissing Drake and he actually likes the Toronto MC’s music, but after Push dropped his new single “Exodus 23:1,” speculation began to swirl that he was again taking aim and Drake and his mentor Lil Wayne . Weezy responded with a poignant tweet: “F— pusha t and anybody that love em.” It is important to note that when he sat with Sway, Drake did not address Pusha T or any other rappers directly, but he did speak about his detractors in a very general sense. “It’s important for me to let my fans know I really don’t care. I’m confident,” he said sternly. “I love the music I make and the videos I make and the people I associate with and every decision I’ve ever made.” For Drake, taking the stage on each stop of his Club Paradise Tour is all the assurance that he needs. “Just to let [fans] know that I don’t care about anything else outside of this right here,” he said from backstage at Houston’s Toyota Center, referencing the army of fans waiting for him to perform. “That other stuff, hiding behind computers and yip-yapping all day on radio stations, it’s like that’s cool, man, for points and popularity, but at the end of the day, there is still 15,000 people here.” Have you seen Drake’s Club Paradise show yet? As he kicks off latest leg of Club Paradise Tour, Drizzy tells MTV News he’s already looking forward to annual hometown show. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Felicia Morris Drake Photo: MTV News The Bay got quite the treat on Monday night when Drake rolled into Concord, California’s Sleep Train Pavilion for the latest leg of his Club Paradise Tour . It was a memorable kickoff for not only Drizzy, but his some of his tourmates, too, as 2 Chainz, Waka Flocka Flame, Meek Mill and French Montana joined him. “I tried to put together a tour that consisted of … everybody that you hear in your spare time,” Drake told MTV News while on the set of 2 Chainz’s “No Lie” video in L.A. just before the tour. “These are the guys that are currently on the top of the game, so I tried to bring ’em all out [for] one night. And that’s why the tour’s called Club Paradise, because I want it to feel like you’re gonna hear every song that you wait to hear in the club.” The Young Money star had a number of surprises. For starters, he brought out his buddy the Weeknd to perform their collabo “Crew Love,” and then he made way for his mentor, Lil Wayne. Together they rocked their Bay-inspired jam “The Motto” — twice. The current leg of the Club Paradise Tour will run through June and will take Drake to some of his favorite cities, including Houston, Atlanta and Las Vegas (or “Houstatlantavegas” as he so affectionately referred to the trio of party towns on his 2009 breakout So Far Gone mixtape). Those stops are special for him although, Drizzy told us he doesn’t get to spend as much time visiting them as he’d like to. “It’s sad because I love those places, so I wanted to bring something real special and I’ve got all these guys looking amazing onstage and set changes for everybody,” Drake said. “It’s gonna be really great.” As focused as he is on the task at hand, however, the Toronto rapper can’t help but look forward to his upcoming third his annual OVO Fest . Last July, Drake brought Stevie Wonder, Weezy, Rick Ross and Nas to perform at yearly hometown concert in Toronto; the year before that he welcomed Jay-Z and Eminem. He isn’t ready to announce the 2012 lineup just yet, but the “Headlines” MC promises a well-rounded mix of musical guests. “The lineup this year is kinda a mash-up of everybody,” Drake said, hinting that some of his Club Paradise collaborators will be in attendance, as well as the Weeknd. “That’s the most important show of the year to me, OVO Fest, so I’m hoping that we really make it special this year. “The premise of OVO Fest is you never know who you gonna see,” he teased. When You Look Me In The Eyes (Justin Bieber Video) with lyrics

A video I made for Justin Bieber using the song “When You Look Me in the Eyes” by The Jonas Brothers. Lyrics: If the heart is always searching, Can you ever find a home? I’ve been looking for that someone, I can’t make it on my own. Dreams can’t take the place of loving you, There’s gotta be a million reasons why it’s true. When you look me in the eyes, And tell me that you love me. Everything’s alright, When you’re right here by my side. When you look me in the eyes, I catch a glimpse of heaven. I find my paradise, When you look me in the eyes. How long will I be waiting, To be with you again Gonna tell you that I love you, In the best way that I can. I can’t take a day without you here, You’re the light that makes my darkness disappear. When you look me in the eyes, And tell me that you love me. Everything’s alright, When you’re right here by my side. When you look me in the eyes, I catch a glimpse of heaven. I find my paradise, When you look me in the eyes. More and more, I start to realize, I can reach my tomorrow, I can hold my head up high, And it’s all because you’re by my side. When you look me in the eyes, And tell me that you love me. Everything’s alright, When you’re right here by my side. When you look me in the eyes I catch a glimpse of heaven I find my paradise When you look me in the eyes. And tell me that you love me. Everything’s alright, When you’re right here by my side. When you look me in the eyes, I catch a glimpse of heaven. Turn to Stone: DVD Roundup 1-18-11

This week on DVD, Milla Jovovich goes back to her naked, naked ways in Stone , we get some virgin tit in The Virginity Hit , and a B-movie babe bares her B’s in the Roger Corman Cult Classic Demon of Paradise . Stone Nude on DVD and Blu-ray, Milla Jovovich gives us our first confirmed sighting of her bare boobs since her skinterracial lesbian scene in the 2006 thriller .45 when she doffs her top in the Robert De Niro flick Stone . It all starts half an hour in, when we see Milla’s cones as she talks on the phone and gives us a bone. Then at the 53-minute mark, Ms. Jovovich bares her niptastic knockerage in bed with De Niro. You’ll turn to stone. In your pants. The Virginity Hit Also nude on DVD, The Virginity Hit is a new kind of teen sex comedy that looks at boob in the age of Youtube. Most of the skin in this movie is seen on a computer screen, like when Savannah Welch appears fully frontal on a screen 33 minutes in and then topless on a cell phone one minute later. Adult actress Sunny Leone even makes a strangely non-nude mameo appearance topless on as the favorite porn star of a teenager who’s desperate to get laid. With Sunny? Aren’t we all? Up from the Depths/ Demon of Paradise Also nude on DVD, Roger Corman ‘s terror-at-the-beach cult classics Up from the Depths and Demon of Paradise are packaged together in one double feature. But the real double feature comes in Demon of Paradise when B-movie babe Leslie Huntly gets nude as some sexy fish food. Demon of Paradise will have you dreamin’ a pair-a-boobs!
