GOP Representative Calls Planned Parenthood ‘Racist Babykillers’ Today in ratchet Republican news: A GOP representative has taken time out of his busy schedule to explain to us all how salvery, racism and planned parenthood go hand in hand. A Republican member of Congress equated Planned Parenthood to “slavery forces” and called it a “racist organization” that was “created with the sole purpose of killing children that look like mine.” Rep. Tim Huelskamp, a congressman from Kansas who made the comments at the 2012 Values Voter Summit this morning, is staunchly anti-abortion rights and said he has adopted four children “each of them either black, Hispanic, native American.” “Besides slavery, abortion is the other darkest stain on our nation’s character,” Huelskamp told the crowd. “And this president is looking for every way possible to make abortion more available and more frequent, and he wants you to pay for it — even if you disagree with it. After rolling out its Galas and other spotlights last week, the Toronto International Film Festival unveiled a swarm of new films added to its lineup, including documentaries by Ken Burns, Alex Gibney and Julien Temple. TIFF also added its genre-heavy Midnight Madness section including new work from Oscar-winners Martin McDonagh and Barry Levinson as well as Don Coscarelli and Rob Zombie. The festival’s Vanguard section includes international work that “defies convention” and includes work from North America, Asia, Europe and Latin America. Also joining the 2012 roster is TIFF’s City to City lineup which this year will spotlight Mumbai; the TIFF Kids lineup including the new Finding Nemo 3-D animation and a collection of restored work. In all, the festival announced over 70 films Tuesday. “There is great satisfaction in discovering films from new voices in non-fiction filmmaking,” said Thom Powers, lead Festival programmer for documentaries. “Some of the most powerful stories being told are from these bold and original emerging filmmakers whose work stands strongly side by side documentary filmmaking greats Alex Gibney and Ken Burns.” The 2012 Toronto International Film Festival takes place September 6 – 16. ‘Minka was kind enough to make an appearance,’ Adam Levine says during the ‘MTV First’ premiere of ‘One More Night.’ By Kara Warner, with reporting by James Montgomery Adam Levine and Minka Kelly in Maroon 5’s “One More Night’ music video Photo: Have you seen Maroon 5’s newest video for “One More Night” yet? MTV News was lucky to have frontman Adam Levine and lead guitarist James Valentine stop by to premiere the clip on MTV during “MTV First: Maroon 5” on Monday, during which we learned that, from the band’s point of view, love is battlefield. Or a boxing match, rather. The concept for “One More Night” was dreamed up by Levine and directed by “Friday Night Lights” and “Battleship” director Peter Berg. It revolves around a boxer dealing with the pressures of providing for and being there for his young wife and baby. The young wife in this case is played by the lovely Minka Kelly, who worked with Berg on “Friday Night Lights.” Although Levine and Kelly look every bit a happy couple at the beginning of the video, their romance is not of the fairy-tale variety. “Minka was kind enough to make an appearance. That was pretty sweet,” Levine said of the actress’ involvement. “She plays my wife who leaves me.” Spoiler alert, Adam! Luckily for everyone involved, the story behind getting Kelly to sign onto the project was a much happier tale than that of the two characters Levine and Kelly play in the video. It was as easy as picking up the phone and making a call. “She’s great,” Levine said of Kelly. “The [story behind her involvement] was Pete reaching out to her and saying, ‘Hey, do you want to do this?’ and her saying ‘Yes,’ and us saying, ‘Thank you!’ ” Levine explained, before giving her a full-on shout-out. “Thank you, Minka Kelly, for doing our video!” In addition to her work in the cult hit “Friday Night Lights,” Kelly has continued to appear on TV and in film with roles on “Parenthood” and the rebooted “Charlie’s Angels,” as well as on the big screen in “The Roommate” and a bit part in “(500) Days of Summer.” Next up for Kelly is the rumored role of a young Jackie Kennedy in the upcoming ensemble “The Butler” alongside Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, Matthew McConaughey, John Cusack, Alan Rickman, Jane Fonda, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Lenny Kravitz. Since its December release in China, the feature has earned approximately $86.5 million at the box office, of which approximately $10.6 million was generated in 61 digital IMAX theaters, Movieweb reports . Killer Joe Heads for Release with NC-17 Black comedy Killer Joe will open July 27 via LD Entertainment with an NC-17. This is disturbing: Kaduna metropolis was again thrown into panic and confusion on Sunday when a car suspected to be carrying explosives exploded along the busy Junction road/Sarduana Crescent close to the Ahmadu Bello Stadium killing not less than 40 people Most of the victims were Okada riders as Christians in the state were attending church services in commemoration of the Easter Sunday. The explosion left glass windows of houses within the vicinity shattered while bodies of victims blown into pieces littered the streets around the scene of the explosion. The Nation gathered the suicide bomber in the car had attempted going to an area with about three or more churches located side by side, but was turned back by the church security who had mounted a road block at the junction. The blast also destroyed property worth millions naira with majority of those affected being commercial motor cycle operators and black marketers of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) otherwise referred to as petrol. The Public Relations Officer of the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Abubakar Zakari Adamu, told newsmen that about 36 people died in the explosion while 13 others are seriously injured and receiving treatment in various hospitals within the metropolis. Adamu said “we took seven persons at Rakiya Memorial Hospital, out of which five have died while the remaining two have been transferred to 44 Army Reference Hospital where about 20 others have been taken. At the St Gerald Hospital, out of the 10 people taken there, five died while the remaining five are receiving treatment. “At Barau Dikko Hospital, we have six dead bodies with six others injured; while about 20 people died on the spot. In all, we have about 36 dead bodies while 13 others are seriously injured.” However, a Red Cross official who would not want his name in print said the agency collected five dead bodies from the scene and are treating about 15 others for serious injuries, adding that there was the possibility of more casualty since the security agents and other emergency workers also evacuated dead bodies from the scene. Investigation revealed that about 60 buildings, including Fina White House Hotel and Marhaba Hotel, residential houses as well as the All Nations Christian Assembly located along Gwari Road behind Marhaba hotel were badly affected by the blast, while not less than six vehicles including a Honda CRV car were damaged. The explosion, according to an eye witness account occurred at about 9.45 am when the lone suspected suicide bomber attempted to enter Gwari road where the All Nations Christian Assembly and the ECWA Good News Church are located but was refused entering. The eye witness said that the suspected bomber was dressed in a T-shirt and short with a set of military uniform at the back seat of the car, adding that part of the problem was that some people were hawking fuel around the area, while the okada riders always park on the major road. One of the survivors who claimed to have witnessed the explosion said “we were three inside the car when suddenly I heard a loud explosion in front of me and suddenly, I saw a billow of smoke and fire under my vehicles. I quickly opened my door and when I look I didn’t see my mechanic again. I am still shocked how I survived.” Another survivor, Augustine Vincent and his cousin, Aaron Idiawaje who are currently receiving treatment at the St Gerard Catholic Hospital claimed they were on the motorcycle directly behind the bomber when the explosion occurred and attributed their miraculous escape to “the blood of Jesus”. He noted that truly Jesus Christ resurrected and that was why they were saved. “We were on our way to Church-Christ Embassy by Station on Kachia road and God saw our heart and saved us.” One of the guests of one of the hotel affected by the explosion told The Nation that when the blast occurred, the window of the hotel fell on his head, but said that no guest inside the hotel was affected, adding that the bomb explosion destroyed windows and doors of the hotel. Another survivor who gave his name as Tunde said, “I was driving pass the scene of the incident along with two other occupants when suddenly I heard a loud sound that almost blocked my ear. When I looked in front of my car, I saw smoke all over the place while fire was coming out from under my car. “The man at the back seat of my car who is my mechanic was nowhere to be found, even when I called his mobile phone, it was switched off, and so my fear is that he might have died as a result of the explosion. Via TMZ reports : It’s barely been six months since Child Protective Services took away their daughter — but TMZ has learned, “16 and Pregnant” couple Ebony and Joshua Rendon are PREGNANT … AGAIN. Joshua tells TMZ, Ebony is currently 10 weeks preggers with the couple’s second child. According to Joshua, the pregnancy was NOT planned — but he adds, “We are extremely excited for the baby.” Here’s the kicker — CPS took away Josh and Ebony’s toddler last year because of the deplorable living conditions in the Rendons’ household … including maggot-filled piles of garbage and feces on the wall. The couple was arrested for child endangerment. Shockingly, their girl is STILL with CPS — and we’re told Josh and Ebony only get supervised visitation. The case is still pending. But Josh tells us, he and Ebony have learned from their mistakes, completed parenting classes, and now keep their home immaculate. Josh insists … they’re 100% ready for another kid. Josh and Ebony are currently fighting to regain full custody of their daughter. Where is MTV to celebrate such “great” decision making skills and parenthood? Kristen Stewart should finally get to have some fun this November in Summit’s franchise-ending The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 , which sees heroine Bella Swan finally blossom into the hot lady vampire mom she was always meant to be. A new teaser reveals your first full look at Stewart as Vampire Bella flexing her new superpowers, making out with Robert Pattinson , worrying about the hordes who want to kill her baby — you know, the usual new parent routine. The clip, apparently taken from a Target in-store promo reel, reveals Stewart in full vampire mode: Red lips, amber eyes, pale skin, perfect eyebrows, bolder sense of self-confidence. The scene within shows Bella and Edward discussing their final challenge: Gathering enough support from the vampire community to prove to Michael Sheen’s head bloodsucker crew that their little half-human, half-vampire baby Renesmee isn’t an abomination of nature. That’s essentially what the conclusion of Breaking Dawn is about: Parenthood. Sigh. Virginia keeps getting more and more backwards. And their new abortion law is just insane. This week, the Virginia state Legislature passed a bill that would require women to have an ultrasound before they may have an abortion. Because the great majority of abortions occur during the first 12 weeks, that means most women will be forced to have a transvaginal procedure, in which a probe is inserted into the vagina, and then moved around until an ultrasound image is produced. Since a proposed amendment to the bill—a provision that would have had the patient consent to this bodily intrusion or allowed the physician to opt not to do the vaginal ultrasound—failed on 64-34 vote, the law provides that women seeking an abortion in Virginia will be forcibly penetrated for no medical reason. What’s more, a provision of the law that has received almost no media attention would ensure that a certification by the doctor that the patient either did or didn’t “avail herself of the opportunity” to view the ultrasound or listen to the fetal heartbeat will go into the woman’s medical record. Whether she wants it there or not. So if you want an abortion in Virginia, you’ll be forcibly penetrated whether you really want it or not – by an ultrasound probing device. The point is to shame women into hearing heartbeats and seeing their child before having the abortion. Then it’ll go on their records.
