Race Matters: NBA Baller Jeremy Lin Says Colleges And Pro Scouts Were Prejudiced Against Him Because He’s Asian

There’s a shocker… Jeremy Lin Says Colleges And NBA Scouts Snubbed Him Because He Is Asain Via NYDailyNews Former New York Knicks sensation Jeremy Lin says his ethnicity is to blame for why he was not offered scholarships to major colleges and why he was passed over during the NBA draft. In a “60 Minutes” interview that was excerpted Friday, the Houston Rockets point guard was asked why he didn’t get a free ride to play hoops at UCLA or Stanford after he led his high school team in Palo Alto, Calif., to a state championship. “Well, the obvious thing in my mind is that I was Asian-American … I think that was a barrier,” Lin told interviewer Charlie Rose. CBS will air the full interview on Sunday. It explores his meteoric rise to fame after he came off the Knicks bench last spring as a relative unknown and created the phenomenon known as “Linsanity” with his remarkable play. Ethnicity has no bearing on athletic skill, Lin says. But he acknowledges that outdated perceptions about race still exist. “It’s just a stereotype,” he said. Lin said he believes that if he were white or black he would have gotten a scholarship to his dream school, Stanford. He went to Harvard, where no athletic scholarships are granted. The fact is, Jeremy is probably right. Hell, even in a pick-up game at the park he’d more than likely get picked last. That said, we bet that 3-year, $25 million contract is keeping him very warm at night. Image via AP

Race Matters: 13 Dark-Skinned NY Parks Department Employees Paid $165,000 Settlements For Being Transferred From Their Positions For Light-Skinned And White Folks!

Dark-skinned, light-skinned, Asian, and White women… Parks Department Workers Paid $165,000 Settlement For Racist Transfer Practices Via NYDailyNews The city will pay thousands of dollars to dark-skinned Parks Department workers who claim they were transferred out of tony Battery Park City in favor of white and light-skinned staffers amid threats and veiled complaints that they were too aggressive. The workers filed a discrimination suit after the March 2011 transfers — which came after months of escalating tensions between the mostly minority agents and some residents of the ritzy enclave. Racist signs and graffiti calling the Public Enforcement Patrol officers “thugs,” “pigs” and “n—–s” started popping up on benches and walls, according to the suit filed by 13 workers. The Parks Department wrongfully transferred eight dark-skinned workers out and brought in eight white, Asian or light-skinned Hispanics after the Battery Park City Authority — a private trust that pays the city $2 million for 31 PEP workers on its 32 acres — complained that some officers were too aggressive in ticketing residents, the suit charged. Residents of the waterfront neighborhood were pleased when PEP workers ticketed visitors — but annoyed when they got tickets for the same petty violations, said Charles St. Louis, a retired NYPD officer and PEP agent who is a plaintiff in the suit. What part of the game is THAT?! The city admitted no wrongdoing in the February agreement of $165,000 — $8,000 to each of the dark-skinned workers, plus the same payment to the replacement workers, who charged they were unwittingly put in the middle of a hostile situation. One black worker, George Parker, 62, will get a payment of $14,000 because a white resident went after him in a fury after another park worker questioned why his dog was off-leash. “I’ve been around a bit in my time, even Birmingham, Ala., and I’ve not seen much that was as bad as Battery Park City,” said Parker. “I got a lot of ‘I pay your salary’ and ‘You work for me’ when I tried to enforce the rules.” PEP worker Keshun Anderson, 40, said she was once called a “f—ing n—–” by the white resident who fought with Parker. And people still have the nerve to call this a “post-racial America” Sheeeeeeeeeeeit…SMMFH Image via Facebook

The Black List Names 2012 ‘Best Un-Produced Screenplays’

Just in time for Christmas, the annual Black List of promising unproduced scripts has been released this morning. While this year’s list is about what you’d expect for a collection of scripts voted on by nearly 300 industry execs nmdash; a high number of ‘based on true events’ abound nmdash; there are a few with rather promising premises. For example, Americatown , by Ben Pool, is a crime thriller set in a near-future American expatriate enclave within the city of Hong Kong. Timely! Matt Aldrich’s The Ballad Of Pablo Escobar also deserves a mention for the craziest idea on the list, which is casting the notorious druglord as the protagonist in a battle to protect his family against rival cartels and his government. The list also includes a script by Zach Whedon (brother of Joss), and one by A Nightmare on Elm Street reboot writer Eric Heisserer, among many others. The full list, plus synopses, is available here . While you read, try to find out for yourself which of these titles will almost certainly die during production. My guess is that Cherries will get a far less provocative name, probably something like Father’s Day . The top ten scripts based on the number of votes are: #10 – 28 mentions. DEVILS AT PLAY by James DiLapo #8 – 29 mentions. ME & EARL & THE DYING GIRL by Jesse Andrews  #8 – 29 mentions. GLIMMER by Carter Blanchard #7 – 31 mentions. Bey-Bey’s $5,600 Gold “Love On Top” Tuxedo Will Be Sold For Charity This Weekend For How Much???

Well damn… Beyonce’s “Love On Top” Tuxedo Will Be Sold For Charity Via NYPost The gold silk tuxedo suit Beyoncé wore in her “Love on Top” video will be on sale at the Park Avenue Garage charitable event in Chelsea this weekend — but only after designer Douglas Hannant sewed the sleeves back on the jacket. Beyoncé apparently danced so hard during the video, she tore the arms off. Park Avenue Garage will sell gently used or new goods from Manhattan’s stylish including Anne Caruso and Chynna Phillips. Bey’s suit, donated by the designer, will sell for $750, compared to its original $5,600 price tag. A $3,000 Dolce & Gabbana dress donated by Patricia Clarkson will be offered for $500. The event is open to the public Friday and Saturday after a VIP opening party tomorrow, with proceeds benefiting New Yorkers for Children. Nothing wrong with using your celebrity status to raise money for charity, but we think that they could get a lot more than a couple hundred dollars from some of these “Beyhive” loyalists. If you live in NY, and you’re a Stan who wants a piece of “your fearless leader” better get there early, this thing will definitely go fast. Image via WENN
