Joseph Gordon-Levitt Calls Lack Of ’50/50′ Kiss ‘Horrible’

“It’s a travesty,” actor jokes to MTV News about not locking lips with Anna Kendrick in the film. By Amy Wilkinson Anna Kendrick and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in “50/50” Photo: Summit Entertainment Over the weekend, audiences laughed (and cried) along with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen in the heartfelt comedy “50/50,” loosely based on writer Will Reiser’s real-life battle with cancer. ( Spoilers ahead! ) Gordon-Levitt’s thoughtful portrayal of 27-year-old cancer patient Adam takes him on a journey from diagnosis to recovery, breaking up with girlfriend Rachael (Bryce Dallas Howard) and sparking a new relationship with therapist-in-training Katherine (Anna Kendrick) along the way. The budding romance is only teased, however, as the two never seal the deal with a kiss. It was a purposeful omission, the film’s writer and stars said at the “50/50” premiere last week in New York. “We very much resisted them kissing,” Reiser told MTV News. “The movie is not a love story. It’s about a guy’s battle with cancer. If it turned into a love story at the end, we would be betraying what the movie is about. That kiss is the start of another movie.” Kendrick, in fact, was relieved she didn’t have to smooch Gordon-Levitt, as they’d become good friends after weeks of filming together. “The studio wanted to see us kiss at the end, actually. We were thinking about just trying it as an option,” she explained. “Joe very wisely stood up and said, ‘If we give it to them as an option, they will use it.’ So we just decided not to do it, because it really just didn’t feel right. And I was relieved, because I had known Joe for too long at that point. It’s too weird once you think of someone as a friend to be like, ‘OK, I guess we make out now?’ ” But Kendrick probably shouldn’t share that sentiment with Gordon-Levitt, because as he told it, he was pretty bummed he didn’t get to kiss his leading lady. “It’s a travesty,” he said with a big grin. “It’s a horrible injustice, and I’m writing a letter.” Check out everything we’ve got on “50/50.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

For Discussion: New Study Shows That Self-Esteem Levels Vary Between Race And Age

Check out this article and let us know what you think. Although Hispanics tend to have lower self-esteem than blacks or whites in the teen years, by age 30 their self-esteem has increased to the point that they have higher self-esteem than whites, a new study suggests. And in both adolescence and young adulthood, blacks have higher self-esteem than whites. By age 30, whites trailed both Hispanics and blacks in terms of self-esteem, according to the report published online July 4 in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. Researchers at the University of Basel in Switzerland made this finding after analyzing U.S. survey data of more than 7,000 young adults from 1994 to 2008. The participants ranged in age from 14 to 30 years. Over the course of 14 years, the study authors examined how five personality traits (openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism) affected the youth’s self-esteem. In addition, the researchers also looked at the participants’ sense of life mastery, risk-taking tendencies, gender, ethnicity, health and income. “We tested for factors that we thought would have an impact on how self-esteem develops,” the study’s lead author, Ruth Yasemin Erol, said in news release from the American Psychological Association. “Understanding the trajectory of self-esteem is important to pinpointing and timing interventions that could improve people’s self-esteem.” The researchers found that conscientiousness, emotional stability, a feeling of mastery and being extraverted are key to predicting the direction a person’s self-esteem will take as they grow up, and that income did not affect this course. These findings, they pointed out, could assist health professionals in targeting treatments. We’re honestly surprised that older whites tend to lag in self-esteem in their latter years in comparison to blacks and hispanics. Hit up the comments section and state your piece. Source

2000 Year Old Computer Recreated – Ancient Alien Technology

The Antikythera Mechanism, built by the ancient Greeks around 150 BC, was recovered from a Roman shipwreck in 1901. When the device was retrieved, however, it was so corroded that nobody fully comprehended its significance. It would take researchers using advanced imaging tools another century to realize that what they were looking at was the world's first computing device. added by: current_spider

WikiLeaks: Case Study for Cyberwar?

One of the problems of trying to understand cyberwar is that we don't really know what it looks like or how it behaves. Mostly, this is due to the fact that the participants/victims don't report it. If anything is reported, it is heavily skewed or filtered for political purposes… https://www.infosecisland.com/blogview/10254-WikiLeaks-Case-Study-for-Cyberwar.h… added by: Paisano1

Kelli Space Has a $189,182.39 Outstanding Student Loan Debt

On her website Kelli Space confesses to having $189,182.39 outstanding in student loans from her undergraduate days at Northeastern University. She set up that site to ask your help in paying the loans off. Space, who's 23, did get a job after she received her bachelor's degree. But she lives with her parents because the monthly nut on the loans is $891. In November 2011, that monthly bill will be $1600 monthly for 20 years, reports Gawker. Space explains the mess she got into as the result of being the first in her family to attend college. Therefore, she was not properly tuned into how much debt to take on and what kind of income she could anticipate earning with a college degree. As of today, the public has pitched in about a $1,951.40 toward retiring Space's debt. Space's ultimate goal is to raise $200K so that makes only $198,048.60 to go. I am quoting the words/views of Kelly on her website Kelli Space “Hi all, While I’m extremely grateful to everyone who’s donated, I fear I’ve misrepresented myself in one way or another, as there have been many misconceptions the past couple of days. I never intended to pass my loans along to someone else and absolve myself of all responsibility. I also never intended to come across as a “beggar.” This website was about putting it out there that I made a mistake, letting people know the extent of the debt burden I’m under because of it that I’m not the only one in this position and asking for help if anyone was so inclined to give it. If not, absolutely fine. If this is what it took to address the issues of student loan practices, I’m happy to have helped get the dialogue going, as obviously I’m an extreme case. My loans are absolutely my cross to bear alone, and I’ve been making regular payments since I began my payment plan. I never intend to default, and since I have such a small chance of declaring bankruptcy, I don’t intend to take that “easy way out” either. I don’t believe my college years were in any way glamorous, though I do realize I chose to give myself an experience that many other people can not and will not experience for themselves. It is MY fault, and mine alone, then, that I am in this debt due to “needing” to attend Northeastern 5 years ago. My gross abuse of finances to pay for my education should not be passed along to anyone else. I do not expect donations from anyone — how could I? There was no way for me to know the kind of response I’d receive. Those who have donated have shown their support and that has encouraged me a great deal. People have provided me with various links, causing me to look deeper into legislation on student loans; people have asked questions to understand student loan situations better; and people have shared their own related issues, and I absolutely feel for them as well. I admire those who have told me they’ve paid off their loans, or those who didn’t take out more than they could handle from the onset. By all means, please donate to any of the many causes out there over me. I’m aware that my issue will remain an issue for some 20 years due to my own poor decision-making, and other immediate causes deserve any amount you can give. Please, do not think I expect anyone’s money, particularly over any other cause. Thank you to everyone who has been open and honest on how they feel. I appreciate all conversation on the topic and, trust me, no one has been harder on me than myself. Thanks again, Kelli “November 24, 2010” ** Link to her page ** http://twohundredthou.com/ added by: KSirys
