Obama Backs Black Lives Matter President Obama spoke out in defense of the Black Lives Matter movement on Thursday, pointing out that those voicing concerns over the treatment of Black people at the hands of police officers have legitimate concerns and stressing that it’s unfair to paint activists in the movement as having anti-police sentiments. Via HuffPost : “We as a society, particularly given our history, have to take this seriously,” Obama said of the fact that African-Americans are treated unfairly by the criminal justice system. “The African-American community is not just making this up, and it’s not just something being politicized. It’s real, and there’s a history there.” “We as a society, if we are not investing in opportunity for poor kids, and then we expect just the police and prosecutors to keep them out of sight and out of mind, that’s a failed strategy. That’s a failure on our part as a whole,” Obama said. “If kids in the inner city are not getting treatment and opportunity, that’s as much of a problem as if it’s happening to our kids, and we’ve got to think of all our children in that same way.” The president also addressed “All lives matter,” the frequent response to the “Black lives matter” refrain, saying that organizers of the Black Lives Matter movement were not suggesting black lives are more important than others, but rather that some things happen in black communities that wouldn’t be tolerated in other communities. “I think everybody understands all lives matter,” Obama said. Everybody wants strong and effective law enforcement, he said, and nobody wants to see police officers hurt who are doing their jobs fairly. At least the President gets it! Hopefully the next person to slide into office will understand too…
Nelly Gets Into Social Media Battle With Promoter Over Miss Jackson Did Nelly’s social media-stalking of his ex-bae Ashanti get his current lady put on blast for her former ho-tendencies? A seemingly random social media exchange has turned into an all-out war between Nelly and a former associate…with multiple #TBT subliminal shots thrown back and forth over the last few hours. Nelly’s gripe is with a St. Louis promoter who goes by the name of Loose Cannon Slim, who has been posting pics and videos of Ashanti for months — making her his #WCW multiple times and posting several comments admiring her thickness . Randy Pullen Says Take Guns Away From Blacks Because They’re Killers Ever wonder why the Republican Party has trouble attracting Black and minority voters?? Maybe Arizona Republican Party Chairman Randy Pullen has the answer… Via Phoenix New Times : While watching Tuesday night’s Democratic presidential candidate debate, Pullen tweeted that black people are the “main killers” in society and suggested taking away their guns: “Yes black lives matter. The best way to end the slaughter of young black men is to take guns away from blacks as they are the main killers,” Pullen wrote. Pullen’s correct that most young black men are killed by other black people — but then again, most white people are killed by other white people. Statistics also don’t bear out the idea that black people do most of the killing in the United States, either. FBI crime stats show that white people committed 4,849 murders in 2010 while black people committed 5,770 — but the stats also show that 4,224 murders were committed by someone whose race was unknown. Maybe with the fact that she walks into her son’s pad and declares, “Hakeem, get yo black a$$ up! You know you gotta be on Sway in the morning!” Or the fact that her potential girl group members are expected to do push-ups ( real push-ups) in stilettos while berated about Beyonce’s work ethic. No, no, let’s go with the scene at the dinner table. The night Lucious got sprung from the slammer, he invited the family – 60 percent of which has deserted him for their own label – over for dinner. His motivation? To “eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow, we war.” That is … unless they “dismantle this little Lyon Dynasty and all will be forgiven.” Cookie and Hakeem insisted they don’t need him, Lucious called the duo’s bluff, saying they can’t eat without him because all they have is pride. Which he adds, tastes chewy and disgusting. Then Cookie zinged him with this comeback: “I’m always gonna eat … just not with you.” Then she yanked the tablecloth out from under the dishes – slowly, but purposely – as she peaced out in a calm but deliberate display of EFF YOU. Game on, then. Lucious’ next move was to call in a favor from Anika to sabotage Lyon Dynasty, but given her propensity to meet with all parties, whose side is she on?! Andre, meanwhile, is desperate to get back into his good graces, and pitches him on acquiring a radio company with access to every urban market. When that didn’t work, Dre told him that Rhonda is pregnant (after he told Cookie, and which still feels like might be a red herring). Lucious’ reaction? Fear, initially, given the flashbacks to his own bipolar mom, then bitterness, that his first-born son would actually try to use this to get what he wants. Guilty as charged, Dre? Again, something tells us that baby inside her isn’t real and this is about to boil over into a truly epic plot twist or 10. If you watch Empire online and see next week’s promo, he and Rhonda are caught in a thoroughly insane situation, for what that’s worth. The music this week was awesome, even if Jamal performing on Leviticus catwalk without Hakeem (but with Pitbull) felt wrong somehow. Speaking of ‘Keem, though, he was unreal, spitting mad game as he crashed the party with Timbaland (executive produces Empire music). The epic feud between Kim Kardashian and Amber Rose dates back to 2012 , when Kim began dating Kanye West, not long after the rapper parted ways with Amber. It was a cold war of sorts for the first few years, with the ladies quietly disliking each other and reportedly talking trash to friends. Things heated up in February, when Kanye trashed Amber in a radio interview, claiming that he needed to take “30 showers” after he dated her, just so that Kim would give him the time of day. It was an ugly comment and things predictably escalated from there, with both sides taking public shots at one another. It all came to a head over the weekend when Amber hosted a “slut walk” event in Los Angeles. At one point, she took the stage and tearfully described the feeling of being publicly shamed by a man that she had once loved. Now, Radar Online reports that Kim was moved by the speech and hopes to bury the hatchet with Amber. “Kim really thought that this was a huge step forward because Amber did not use her platform to slam her,” said one insider. Rita Ora and Travis Barker both have reputations for short-lived, high-profile relationships that are trotted out into the spotlight much earlier than they should be, so it’s no surprise that the two D-listers have decided to combine their powers like some sort of promiscuous Captain Planet. Yes, several sources are reporting that Rita and Travis are dating, and that they’re moving very fast. The new couple reportedly met at a celebrity basketball game. Insiders say Rita was so impressed with Barker’s skills on the court that she approached him at the after party “Rita sought him out and gave him her info,” a source tells Us Weekly. “They have been together every day since.” It was rumored that Rita was dating Wiz Khalifa over the summer, but neither party ever confirmed the relationship. Ora has dated Rob Kardashian , and she went through a high-profile breakup with Calvin Harris just last year. Things apparently ended badly, as Rita has cautioned Taylor Swift to beware of Calvin’s douchey tendencies.
