If you’re already sick of seeing the same cheery holiday movie previews (and that would be unfortunate since it’s only August), behold: a yuletide trailer that will get your cynical juices flowing. How am I so sure? Because Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas offers the only preview clip in the history of man (and movie trailers) to begin with the words, “I shot Santa Claus in the face. He’s real and I shot him in the face.” Jump ahead to watch the stoner-on-Santa violence and to see what happens when Neil Patrick Harris runs into Jesus Christ at a bar. (It’s hilarious, I assure you).
‘I’ve always been fascinated by what really goes on in the subways,’ Neil Patrick Harris tells MTV News of what he’d do first. By Jocelyn Vena “The Smurfs (In 3-D)” Photo: Sony Pictures “The Smurfs” are three apples high, as the legend goes, and in this week’s big-screen adaptation of the beloved children’s cartoon, Hollywood takes a stab at re-telling the tale for a new generation of kids. The 3-D tale (with some CGI) is voiced by an A-list cast, including VMA-nominated Katy Perry , George Lopez and Alan Cumming, to name a few. In the movie, the Smurfs land in the Big Apple, where they end up staying with expecting newlyweds played by Neil Patrick Harris and “Glee” star Jayma Mays. Of course, they’re also trying to stay as far as possible from their nemesis, Gargamel, played by Hank Azaria. The little creatures find themselves in some silly situations as they try to navigate the big city. When MTV News caught up with Harris, Mays and Azaria in New York, we asked what they would do if they suddenly found themselves having to survive the city in Smurf-sized bodies.’ “I’ve always been fascinated by what really goes on in the subways,” Harris said. His onscreen lady love, Mays, agreed, “That’s a good one,” before warning him, “but then the rats would be bigger than you. So that’d be a little scary.” “Maybe I’d sneak into really fun buildings,” Mays added. “I would get into clubs that won’t let me in now.” Harris later quipped of a popular Broadway show, “You could sneak into the ‘Book of Mormon.’ That’s a hard ticket to get right now.” The actor who plays the movie’s bumbling bad guy had a less glitzy answer. “If I were three apples high and I lived in New York, I would sneak into the Mets game. That’s what I’d do,” Azaria said. “And I’m blue, so they’d probably just mistake me for some kind of mascot. I’d wear orange to go with it. You see Gutsy’s beard there? It’s orange; that’s Mets colors right there. I’m sure Gutsy is a Mets fan.” Are you going to check out “The Smurfs” this weekend? Tell us in the comments! The heat wave bearing down on the United States has turned much of the eastern half of the country into a hellish furnace of death , despair and crisis . Today in New York the forecast calls for a high of 99, with the humidity pushing the heat index into triple digits with the likes of Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and scores of other towns along the Eastern Seaboard. But at least we’re all in this together — and with the movies, which are rich with tales of city folks sweating out the worst seasonal crap summer has to offer. Read on and recount nine of the best.

He’ll find out this month in Sony’s live action-CG adaptation The Smurfs , which sees the famous blue creatures take Manhattan — and the lives of Patrick (Harris) and Grace Winslow (Jayma Mays) — by storm in a modern day-set adventure about appreciating family and stepping into fatherhood.
‘Rejoice New York,’ Lady Gaga tweeted. ‘We did it!’ By Benjamin Wagner Members of the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network join Lady Gaga at the 2010 MTV VMAs Photo: Getty Images The Twitterverse was ablaze with every color of the rainbow Friday night as New York state became the sixth and most populous in the U.S. to allow gay marriage. With the bill, which passed 33 to 29 in the State Senate in Albany, the Empire State joins Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Iowa and Washington D.C. in recognizing gay marriage in the United States. The timing was fortuitous as New Yorkers observe Pride Week, a celebration of the diversity of the LGBT community. Lady Gaga , whose LGBT advocacy has manifest well beyond her songwriting at speeches, rallies and appearances from San Francisco Pride in 2009 to the National Equality March in 2010, and the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, wasted no time making her pride known. “Rejoice New York, and propose. We did it!” she Tweeted. “The revolution is ours to fight for love, justice + equality.” “CONGRATULATIONS!” Punk-pop provocateur Pink shouted. “ABOUT TIME!” Outspoken, plainclothes talk show hostess Ellen DeGeneres was thrilled about the news. “Every day we get a little closer,” she Tweeted. “What an amazing feeling.” “Progress!” Neil Patrick Harris said. “A historic night!” “Tonight we’re all New Yorkers!” comedienne Kathy Griffin Tweeted. “Straight and gay alike, let’s all celebrate marriage #equality.” MTV’s own ” My Life As Liz ” star, Liz Lee — a recent Manhattan transplant — weighed in, saying simply “Proud to be a resident of NYC!” “The rights u take for granted are only valid if u fight to give those same rights to others,” Tweeted Russell Simmons “Happy that New York passed marriage equality tonight. A victory for human rights. Progress.” wrote John Legend. “New York believes in EQUALITY!! Hopefully California and the rest of the U.S. will follow! Wish I was in NYC right now!” said Perez Hilton. Others couldn’t wait to propose, taking to social media to state their love. “Wanna get married, @bravoandy?” ‘NSYNC’s Lance Bass asked Bravo’s Andy Cohen. Singer is also set to appear as guest judge on show later in season. By Jocelyn Vena, with additional reporting by Sabrina Rojas Weiss Lady Gaga Photo: Getty Images Lady Gaga is ready to take fans to the “Edge of Glory.” The singer confirmed that she will debut the music video for the clip on Thursday on “So You Think You Can Dance.” Little is known about the Joseph Kahn-directed clip , but all will be revealed in good time, it seems. The news comes just as executive producer and judge Nigel Lythgoe announced he was getting Gaga to join celebrity judges like will.i.am on the show this season. “Yes, I asked her when she performed on the ‘American Idol’ finale if she would come on, and she said yes,” Lythgoe . “She is on tour so they said it would probably be later in the season. She is an amazing dancer and performer.” He tossed around a few other names of celebs who might be guest judges, including Neil Patrick Harris, Kristin Chenoweth, Ellen DeGeneres and Megan Mullally. “We have a lot of people who want to help the kids become unique. The biggest thing is standing out from the crowd,” he said. “The kids have to find something that makes them unique and these performers know how to do that.” When Lythgoe and judge Mary Murphy sat down with MTV News recently, they said they wanted to make sure that celebs who come on the show are the right fit. “I think [celebrity judges] make it exciting for sure,” Murphy said. “I’ll never forget when Ellen sat next to me. But it made it a little bit difficult for me because I think she’s so funny. … Then I had to focus.” Lythgoe added that his wish is to have celebrity judges who aren’t just famous faces but who know about dancing. “The sad thing for me is when some celebrity judges come on, they just want to be liked, so they’re not going to give a good critique,” he said. “Just ‘you were wonderful, you were wonderful.’ … Then again there’s a whole raft of judges, particularly in dance — Shirley MacLaine, Mitzi Gaynor, Debbie Reynolds — that could be called upon to judge, that have been there, done it through the ’40s and ’50s that are stunning, were stunning dancers. “I’m going to be talking to Fox about it, but I know in my heart that Fox will say, ‘Well, we don’t really know them, can you get Lady Gaga?’ … She was excellent on ‘Idol,’ ” he added. “A little naughty!” Related Videos Lady Gaga: Inside The Outside Related Artists Lady Gaga
