Michael Brea Suspected of Decapitating Mother with a Samurai Sword

This is as bizarre and as heinous a story as we could possibly imagine. Michael Brea, a small-time actor who once appeared on Ugly Betty , has been taken into custody for allegedly chopping off the head of his mother with a samurai sword. According to police reports, cops arrived to an “extremely bloody” scene at Brea’s Brooklyn home around 2:20 this morning and found the actor holding a bible. They had to subdue him via taser. A neighbor recounted events, as he/she heard them, to WPIX 11: “I hear [Brea] chasing [his mother] through the house and he’s just saying a bunch of [Bible] passages like, ‘Repent, Repent, Repent.’ I heard him chasing her through the house and I heard a loud scream and so I have my father call the cops.” The victim was found with her head sliced off. At the moment, Brea has not been officially arrested for the crime.

Clear the Road: Lindsay Lohan Regains License

Lindsay Lohan has regained the right to operate a motor vehicle. We are happy for her … and scared bit for residents of Palm Springs, California. The L.A. County Probation Department and officials at the Betty Ford clinic signed off this morning, so Lindsay can drive again. Special treatment? Not so much. Officials allow this for people “at Lindsay’s care and treatment level,” though it’s still odd, as her legal problems stem from driving. SCARED? It’s LiLo, we wouldn’t blame you. [Photo: Pacific Coast News] Meanwhile, Michael Lohan is so stoked about his daughter regaining her driver’s license, dude gave her his own Mercedes Benz to tool around town in! Not only is she planning on having Thanksgiving with dad , she’s cruising around in the (very expensive) wheels MiLo lent her to prove his trust. Michael dropped the convertible off Monday for her to drive as she pleases. How nice. We’d still keep a lengthy following distance … but nice.

CNBC’s Kernen Challenges Pa. Governor on Tea Party ‘Fruit Loops’ Label and Pass Given to MSNBC’s Schultz

As we near the midterm elections, left-wingers will be reading from the same tired playbook – the attempted marginalization of the Tea Party movement, but just more of it. But more and more, they are discovering the tactics are tougher to defend, as their side has their own fringe, loose-cannon elements. On CNBC’s Sept. 29 “Squawk Box,” hosts Joe Kernen and Michelle Caruso-Cabrera went after Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell for what seems to be hypocrisy – a willingness to attack one side for extremism, while ignoring extreme elements on the left. Rendell was asked by Kernen to elaborate on remarks he made earlier this month, that some Republicans are “fruit loops,” “whackos,” and “flat-out crazy.” KERNEN: I want to talk to you about something, later about — you’re calling Tea Party people wing nuts and fruit loops? RENDELL: Not all of them. KERNEN: Not all of them? You saw the president, the president basically said that most of them, most of the Tea Party “are directed and financed by powerful and special interests lobbies,” this is in the Journal today. That’s most of them and the rest of them are bigots. So you’re either directed by special interests … RENDELL: I don’t believe it. KERNEN: Seventy-one percent of Republicans, according to this poll today in the Journal identify – so, you’ve just trashed the entire half of the country. CARUSO-CABRERA: He says slowly but surely, the GOP is taken over by whackos. RENDELL: There’s no question about that. But Kernen pressed Rendell on this and asked why some on his side, including Ed Schultz, of CNBC’s sister network MSNBC’s “The ED Show” was held to a different standard. KERNEN: But, Ed Schultz calls Gov. [Chris] Christie a cold-hearted fat slob and he’s not a fruit loop? He’s fat himself. He’s not a fruit loop? RENDELL: We didn’t nominate Ed Schultz to be a United States Senator or Governor. There’s a big difference. KERNEN: Blowhard. RENDELL: No, no look – I think there’s too much name-calling and I think Gov. Christie, by and large is doing the right thing. Caruso-Cabrera, author of the forthcoming book “You Know I’m Right: More Prosperity, Less Government,” insisted that Rendell explain why, if he thinks there is “too much name-calling,” he name-called. CARUSO-CABRERA: But, why did you name-call? KERNEN: Yeah RENDELL: Because there are some people who are and you can’t deny it. CARUSO-CABRERA: You’ll stand by that – that they’re still being taken over by whackos? RENDELL: Yeah and let me give you an example. KERNEN: Wing nuts and fruit loops are in the eye of the beholder and I guarantee you – you have half the country looking at the other side saying there’s fruit loops and wing nuts. They use different words. Almost laughably, Rendell insisted that the fringe elements on the left-wing progressive side weren’t as extreme. Rendell made this assertion, despite the backlash Obama has received from the so-called “professional left,” despite Obama admittedly being the most “progressive” president in the history of the United States . RENDELL: Maybe. I don’t think they’re quite as extreme. KERNEN: Oh my – are you kidding me?!? RENDELL: One of our candidates – KERNEN: Can you imagine President Obama is being pilloried by people who think he hasn’t been liberal enough? Can you believe there are people that exist like that? He just said he is the most progressive, he just he passed the most progressive agenda in this history of the country. He concedes to that and yet it’s not progressive enough for most of these people? What does this alleged wizard-of-smart do on a business network to backtrack out his tough spot? He went straw-man and invoked some of the candidates’ stances on social issues. RENDELL: Well look, I tell you absolutely. There are people on both sides of the political spectrum that are saying stuff that doesn’t make sense. But we haven’t nominated him nor senator or governor. You have people out there saying you must have the child of someone who rapes you, you must have the child. That is insane. CARUSO-CABRERA: You’re focusing on the wrong issues. RENDELL: No, no. CARUSO-CABRERA: This is about fiscal issues and you want to try to take it somewhere else. RENDELL: I think that’s important. Look, I think that is so important. Kernen pointed out Rendell was probably glad to have Delaware ’s GOP nominee for U.S. Senate, Christine O’Donnell with all her stances on social issues as a distraction. And Rendell showed his willingness to go to that well by referring to other left-wing favorite targets – conservative women including Sharon Angel and Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn. KERNEN: We have to go. You are so lucky for the O’Donnell with the monkey brain, witchcraft. She is your dream candidate. RENDELL: It’s not just O’Donnell. It’s Sharon Angel, it is Michele Bachmann. KERNEN: She is your dream candidate. RENDELL: I want to ask you something about Michele Bachmann. Rendell didn’t get to ask about Bachmann, but Caruso-Cabrera did urge viewers to reply to Rendell’s seeming double standard by e-mail at squawk@cnbc.com .

Today Show Hypes Christine O’Donnell’s Witchcraft Past

Today co-anchor Matt Lauer, on Monday morning, couldn’t wait to tell viewers about the revelation that Christine O’Donnell once admitted to practicing witchcraft, as he greeted viewers at the top of the very top of the show: “Casting a spell. She’s already won her state’s Republican Senate primary and captured headlines across the country. Now a video surfaces showing Christine O’Donnell admitting she dabbled in witchcraft as a high schooler.” Lauer’s colleague Kelly O’Donnell, then went on to dredge up clips from Bill Maher’s old Politically Incorrect show as she called the Delaware GOP Senate nominee a “tempest in the Tea Party.” While most of Kelly O’Donnell’s piece was devoted to Christine O’Donnell’s “witchcraft talk” that didn’t keep her from mentioning that the Tea Party was causing “tension” in the Alaska Senate race: “And there’s more Tea Party tension brewing for Republicans. Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski, who lost her primary, jumped back in the race.” O’Donnell also aired a clip of Murkowski claiming her victorious primary opponent Joe Miller had “extremist views.” Continuing with the theme of a GOP at war with itself, O’Donnell did manage to note the Democrats had another problem altogether as she observed: “While some Republicans are fighting each other the President, appearing at a dinner for the Congressional Black Caucus, tried to inspire those disinterested Democrats to join the fight for November.” The following is the full O’Donnell story as it was aired on the September 20 Today show: MATT LAUER: Now to politics, with the midterm elections only six weeks away, both parties are having to deal with the sudden impact of the Tea Party. NBC’s Kelly O’Donnell is in Washington with more on that. Kelly, good morning to you. [On screen headline: “Tempest In The Tea Party? O’Donnell Admits She ‘Dabbled Into Witchcraft'”] KELLY O’DONNELL: Good morning, Matt. Well the President is trying to help Democrats hold on to a vulnerable Senate seat in Pennsylvania today campaigning and raising money there, while Republicans have more turmoil to deal with. One GOP incumbent won’t accept her defeat in a primary and there are more surprises about that newcomer who is certainly becoming a tempest in the Tea Party. Delaware’s Republican Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell is stirring the pot. CHRISTINE O’DONNELL: They call us wacky, they call us wing nuts, we call us, “We the People.” KELLY O’DONNELL: Hours after she was cheered at a gathering for social conservatives in Washington D.C. an old clip of O’Donnell hit TV Friday, this strange comment from 1999. (Begin clip from Politically Incorrect) CHRISTINE O’DONNELL: I dabbled in witchcraft. I never joined a coven, but I did, I did. (End clip) KELLY O’DONNELL: Comedian Bill Maher teased that unless she comes on his TV show again, he will release more. (Begin clip from Politically Incorrect) CHRISTINE O’DONNELL: One of my first dates with a witch was on a Satanic altar and I didn’t know it. And I mean there’s a little blood there, and stuff like that. BILL MAHER: That was a date? CHRISTINE O’DONNELL: Yeah we went to a movie and then like had a little midnight picnic on a Satanic altar. MAHER: Let’s have a movie and a sacrifice? (End clip) KELLY O’DONNELL: Citing schedule conflicts, O’Donnell backed out on two Sunday morning shows, prime media real estate for a candidate. CHRIS WALLACE, FOX NEWS: Late Friday night, her campaign cancelled. BOB SCHIEFFER, CBS NEWS: She cancelled on us yesterday. KELLY O’DONNELL: Instead O’Donnell campaigned at a picnic in Delaware where she made light of the witchcraft talk. CHRISTINE O’DONNELL: How many of you didn’t hang out with questionable folks in high school. But, no, there’s been no witchcraft since. If there was, Karl Rove would be a supporter now. KELLY O’DONNELL: Democrats worked their own magic with a new TV ad hitting O’Donnell for past tax problems and old debt from her 2008 campaign. (Begin ad clip) ANNOUNCER: She’ll fit right in, in Washington, O’Donnell spends money she doesn’t have. (End clip) KELLY O’DONNELL: And there’s more Tea Party tension brewing for Republicans. Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski, who lost her primary, jumped back in the race. She was narrowly defeated by Tea Party conservative Joe Miller, who was endorsed by Sarah Palin. LISA MURKOWSKI: We cannot accept the extremist views of Joe Miller. KELLY O’DONNELL: Murkowski is defying the GOP leadership to run a write-in campaign that even she says will be tough to win. MURKOWSKI: You don’t think we can’t fill in an oval and learn to spell Lisa Murkowski, we can figure this out. KELLY O’DONNELL: While some Republicans are fighting each other the President, appearing at a dinner for the Congressional Black Caucus, tried to inspire those disinterested Democrats to join the fight for November. BARACK OBAMA: Tell them we can’t wait to organize. Tell them that the time for action is now. KELLY O’DONNELL: And when asked about the influence of the Tea Party, former President Bill Clinton said that the voters responding to those candidates are showing good impulses because of the feelings that are out there this year, but he’s not sure what their agenda would be. And Christine O’Donnell’s advisers, when I asked them again about this witchcraft thing, reminded me of the kind of fun lines she tried to use there, saying, that if she were still practicing witchcraft, then Karl Rove would be one of her supporters, not her detractors. So they’re trying to make light of it. Matt?
