Justin Bieber’s ‘Baby,’ ‘Bed Intruder Song’ Most-Watched 2010 YouTube Videos

Users around the world pressed the play button on Auto-Tune the News and Antoine Dodson and Bieber’s viral gems millions of times. By Mawuse Ziegbe Justin Bieber Photo: James Devaney/ Getty Images This year, when it came to staving off boredom on the Internet, people around the world turned to two videos: Justin Bieber’s “Baby” and Auto-Tune the News aka the Gregory Brothers’ “Bed Intruder Song.” “Baby” was named the most-watched music video on YouTube, while “Bed Intruder” was dubbed the most watched video in the US and around the world. Bieber’s YouTube dominance is not that surprising considering the kid took over many corners of the Internet in 2010, sparring with Lady Gaga for Twitter followers and picking up three percent of all of the website’s traffic . Add that to the sold-out shows, platinum certifications and global outbreak of Bieber fever , and it makes sense that “Baby,” which at press time had over 408 million views, topped the list of most-watched YouTube music videos. In a year of double rainbows and annoying oranges, one meme reigned supreme: “Bed Intruder Song.” The Gregory Brothers, who often revamp clips with Auto-Tuned vocals, saw a potential hit in Antoine Dodson’s sassy interview with a Huntsville, Alabama NBC affiliate about stopping the attempted rape of his sister. The bouncy track even landed on iTunes and garnered Dodson instant fame. Even Hayley Williams, New Found Glory and Reliant K gave the digital smash a punk-rock treatment. Other major-label music videos that scored tons of clicks on the user-generated content site are Shakira featuring Freshlyground “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” which was #2 and Rihanna’s “Rude Boy” at #5. Eminem showed up twice with “Love the Way You Lie” and “Not Afraid” at #3 and #4, respectively. Bieber has four visuals total on the list, with “Never Say Never” at #6, “Never Let You Go” at 7 and “Somebody to Love (Remix)” with Usher at #9. Gaga’s “Alejandro” was #8 and her romp with Beyonc

Rick Ross, Wiz Khalifa And More Make Our Top Mixtapes Of 2010

Waka Flocka Flame, Lloyd Banks, Wale and Fabolous also made game-changing street CDs, in Mixtape Daily ‘s year-end awards. Jadakiss, Wiz Khalifa and Fabolous Photo: Shareif Ziyadat/ Sean Berry/ Jason Campbell From the looks of things over the past 12 months, the mixtape game has never been healthier. In 2010, the standout projects and the MCs who helmed them took a page out of Drake’s book from the previous year with So Far Gone, making mixtapes that were put together like albums with a majority of head-nodding original material populating the track lists. Look no further than Rick Ross’ Albert Anastasia EP, which featured “B.M.F. (Blowin’ Money Fast)”; the song later landed on his proper LP and recently scored the #4 ranking in MTV News’ Top 25 Songs of 2010 list powered by its appeal on the mixtape circuit. Then there were upstarts like Big K.R.I.T., who delivered a stirring collection that was worthy of a debut album with his K.R.I.T. Wuz Here. The 19-song, self-produced set drew critical praise and eventually earned the Mississippi rhymer a deal with Def Jam Records. As the music industry undergoes more changes and technology erases the line between the labels and the fans, look for more artists to innovate and take their projects (be they official or unofficial) straight to the interwebs (word to Lyor Cohen!). The results could be promising: Fabolous’ The Funeral Service: There Is No Competition 2 was so ill and embraced by the streets that Def Jam turned the mixtape into an EP. Here, Mixtape Daily delivers the Top 10 (plus one) Mixtapes of 2010: Lloyd Banks’ V5 Street Testimony : “Just reflecting back in the studio,” Banks revealed to Mixtape Daily about the inspiration behind his resurgence. “Just going back. People always say, ‘Go back to your first album.’ I went back further than that. All the success came from [my early mixtapes] Money in the Bank, Money in the Bank Part 2 all the way to Part 4. I was like, ‘You know what? I did that in a matter of two years.’ I said, ‘I’mma do what I did in two years in one.’ … By the time I got to V5, it was a good five or six months between tapes. I didn’t plan it like that. I just never stopped recording and touring. By the time V5 came, I felt a little pressure. I told them it was gonna get better every time. I think people embraced it.” Big K.R.I.T.’s K.R.I.T. Wuz Here Street Testimony : “People can see the growth from when I first did my first project until now,” K.R.I.T. told Mixtape Daily when we named him a Fire Starter in June. “And they can see the growth and me really finding myself as an artist. And really not compromising my creative mind frame for what’s going on in the industry and just being myself and putting the music out. The first record is ‘Return of 4eva.’ It was really just telling the game we here on some Southern hip-hop and this is us. And this is the type of music that I’m gonna put out. And I just hope that people can relate to it and respect it.” Cam’ron and Vado’s Boss of All Bosses 2.5 Street Testimony : “At first, it was like the lost tapes. Tracks that were throwaways. Then we added more flavor to it,” Vado told us about the set. “What happened with the 2.5, ” Cam added, “we gave Drama maybe 25 songs [for Boss of All Bosses 2 ]. He was like, ‘You might as well come back with 2.5 in two weeks.’ But we were doing so much new music, we might as well call it 4.8. It’s crazy. It’s about 20 songs.” Fabolous’ The Funeral Service: There Is No Competition 2 Street Testimony : “It’s really incredible how people will connect with the work,” Fab said to us during our Midseason Salute . “I think we put a lot of work into it, with the whole funeral theme. We didn’t just say it and you had to daydream it. We went into the funeral homes. We picked caskets out for the competition. Def Jam, this summer, is gonna put the mixtape out as an EP. So I did about four new songs, put ’em with some of the original joints from the mixtape. We got more viral videos coming. We just gonna keep it going and let it end as the classic it is. A lot of people saying it’s a classic, one of the, if not the best mixtape of 2010. It’s crazy to me, because it started out as something I wanted to give free to the fans and people who accept my work. Def Jam even came in and said, ‘Whoa, we gotta get a piece.’ It’s a good thing, man.” J. Cole’s Friday Night Lights Street Testimony : “I just tried to make the best project I could make,” Cole told us over the phone days after he dropped FNL. “Pick the best songs, and some of those songs were songs I really had to bite the bullet and sacrifice and not put them on my album, ’cause I knew it would make the tape better. I had to figure out what songs I was willing to let go of and then make the best story, in terms of sequencing. It reminded me of when we were putting together The Warm Up. I’m just in a different place now. It was just time for new music.” Jadakiss’ The Champ Is Here 3 Street Testimony : “The regular formula for the first two was drop the mixtape right when I finished the album,” Jada told us when he previewed the project exclusively for Mixtape Daily. “I just shifted it on you this time: Give you the mixtape then go finish the album. Let you compare it with the albums that’s coming out while I’m in the kitchen. It’ll just be creating pandemonium everywhere instead of competing with my own album. It might be better to do it this way. We gonna keep switching it around. We might do another one this way, but we gonna switch the pattern up so they can’t follow.” L.E.P. Bogus Boys’ Don’t Feed Da Killaz, Vol. 3 Street Testimony : “I penned the term ‘quality street music’ like five years ago, and it’s good to see it’s still alive,” tape host DJ Drama told Mixtape Daily in October. “And normally, I tell you guys don’t be afraid, don’t be scared but, um, since we coming out on [Halloween], I think you should be scared.” Rick Ross’ The Albert Anastasia EP Street Testimony : “It’s more than just an extended play,” Ross explained to Mixtape Daily. “Because when I started recording and it was sounding too good, I wanted to put more songs in there than what I wanted to initially. But it’s The Albert Anastasia EP. I named it that because Albert Anastasia was a self-made man. He was a boss. He was a lot less celebrated. He was more focused on getting his job done, handling his business. Of course, he ultimately came to an untimely demise. But I feel when it’s time to go, it’s always untimely, so what’s the difference?” Waka Flocka Flame’s LeBron Flocka James 2 Street Testimony : “I’m not going lyrical, hard in the studio,” Waka said about his rowdy rhymes . “It ain’t time for me to do that. This ain’t no album; this is my mixtapes. Why I gotta go spend 30 hours [writing rhymes] off of a mixtape? Then I got other people dissing me for saying that. You crazy. You giving me that much time out of 24 hours, you not doing your job. That’s my word to you.” Wale’s More About Nothing Street Testimony : “That’s why you hear that vigor and hunger in my voice while I’m rapping,” Wale told Mixtape Daily about this project. “I was trying to go super crazy in the booth to let them know that the hunger is still there. It’s to my label, the fans, to the doubters. I’m trying to prove myself. A lot of people try to reinvent themselves. I’m trying to define myself. It’s almost like it was a rough draft of my mission statement before, but this is the final draft. If y’all didn’t know who Wale was before, you know now. And the play on ‘nothing’ is that a lot of people are saying nothin’, but we’re saying somethin’ now.” Wiz Khalifa’s Kush & Orange Juice Street Testimony : “I named the mixtape Kush & Orange Juice because, in a nutshell, I tried to match up a name that goes perfect with the tape,” Wiz explained to us earlier this year. “It’s perfect for wake-and-bake, if that’s what you’re into. Anybody who knows me knows that’s what I specialize in. It came out Kush & Orange Juice. That’s the formula. Fruits and vegetables. The tape is heavily inspired by all different types of herbs and wonderful green things that make us grow.” Did we miss anything? Share your picks for the best mixtapes of 2010 in the comments! Senate expected to pass medical marijuana resolution, but advocate Diane Riportella, of Egg Harbor Township, will stay home

By SARAH WATSON Staff Writer pressofAtlanticCity.com Diane Riportella did not take pain medication Friday, hoping she could make it through the day. By evening, however, the pain from not being able to move was unbearable, the anxiety and fear inconsolable. Rather than have her husband Paul give her a few drops of cherry-flavored liquid morphine, the Egg Harbor Township resident instead asked that he light her pipe with medical grade marijuana. Almost instantly, she said, the pain dissipated, her anxiety gone and she felt the will to live come back. Today, if everything occurs as expected, Diane Riportella will hear that the state Senate passed a resolution that could be the last hurdle in legalizing medical marijuana in New Jersey. Unfortunately, Diane, who is in the final stages of Lou Gehrig’s Disease, or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also called ALS, won’t be in Trenton to watch the vote in person. http://www.jackherer.com/archives/senate-expected-to-pass-medical-marijuana-reso… added by: JackHerer

Wikileaks Threatens America’s Imperial Ambitions – Release of Docs Cuts Them Down to Size

Vladimir Putin says that America is one to lecture others about “Democracy”. In a report from RT news this report about the response from Putin over American criticism of his country. In another report, one leaked document has led to a firestorm as Moscow now demands an explanation for revelations that a planned covert action was planned by the US towards Russia. Could it be that these documents are going to cut short America's Imperial Ambitions as the public in other countries begin to see that America is about corporate corruption and money and greed and projection of power, America will loose a major part of their credibility and ability to project that power…even though they have such massive military spending in comparison to the other state actors in the world. The pressure exerted by America seeking to remain the world's sole hegemonic power is that it forces all the allies to consider teaming up to form another alliance. The whole secrecy of international policy or foreign policy in the US is what propels the corruption of corporate power and for a long time it has served as a way for the US to brand “America” like a product and sell the “idea” to the people of the world that it is the “shinning city on the hill that will bring justice to mankind….etc”, but people weigh this in their minds against what they actually see what America does and now the revelations of corporate influence in the wars in Africa, its amazing that people can't see that Wikileaks serves a higher purpose, regardless of what you think about the media image of Julian Assange. This information that gets released can serve as a great equalizer and ensure that no one country has the power to dominate the entire world, for such to allow such a power to exist threatens the entire human race. We know for a fact that most of these government “professional managers” are there to fill their own pockets and that corruption is at the highest levels and trickles down all the way to its underbelly. Most average people who get their information from Mainstream Media Outlets don't get the real story but the censored story that makes America always look like the hero of the story, regardless of the scandal that surrounds individuals that get caught doing the dirty work. http://rt.com/politics/putin-cow-wikileaks/ The wiki revelations are taking over the job the fourth estate was always intended to do, uncover the corruption and blow the whistle. But once the fourth estate became all about profit, then the master it served changed, from the people to the stockholders. I would be interested to hear about what you think about these ideas… added by: jubal

Obama ignores clemency for political prisoners

President Obama fails to free political prisoners in the US The United States of America holds the world record for the most incarcerated population on the planet. Nearly 2.3 million Americans are locked into the country’s criminal justice system.Among them, hundreds of political prisoners the U.S. government does not recognize. “There are hundreds, perhaps thousands, of people [in the U.S.] whom I would call political prisoners.” So when US President Barack Obama finally decided to execute his pardon privilege, his choices were disappointing to many, like Jim Klimaski, who litigates constitutional and civil rights cases. Klimaski told RT: “President Obama had the opportunity of correcting egregious errors and the people he pardoned are essentially insignificant.” The men and women granted clemency all committed low level offenses such as forgery, drug possession, even mutilating coins. Some of the recipients of the pardons didn't even go to prison. In the stacks of pardon applications were those of prisoners like Native American Activist Leonard Peltier. Peltier, a member of the militant American Indian Movement was sentenced to two life terms in prison for allegedly killing two FBI agents. However, the initial trial was corrupted by faulty affidavits and coerced evidence submitted by the FBI. Some argue Peltier’s only crime was his political activism. Betty Peltier, Leonard’s sister told RT: “They have no evidence at all that he killed anyone.” Mumia Abu Jamal is also considered a political prisoner. He has been on death row for over two decades. Abu Jamal was member of the Black Liberation Movement. He was charged for a crime world dignitaries and members of the European Parliament insist he did not commit. At a demonstration in Washington, DC one Mumia supporter said: “The only reason why he is in jail is because he was framed.” Political hip hop artist Immortal Technique has leant his support and voice to Mumia’s case. He believes these convictions are simply the most known cases of a systematic attempt to silence those seen as a threat to the establishment. “They symbolize a system basically charging someone who is innocent with a crime. Someone specific who is attached to a movement.” Hundreds of other cases fit the description of political prisoners. Such as the Cuban Five, in prison for investigating terrorists attacks against Cuba from Miami and the Puerto Rican Liberation fighters jailed for fighting for Puerto Rico’s independence from the U.S. Those groups, along with countless members of the Black Panther Party, became targets for political reasons some lawyers insist. Zachary Wolfe of the National Lawyers Guild has dealt with many flawed cases. He believes Obama acted with poor judgment. “Pardon Power is absolute, he can do whatever he wants and he has chosen not to,” Wolfe said. He recalls previous pardons that were controversial. “It's hard to see any justice in the process. There are people who have done harm to democracy who have been pardoned such as Oliver North” Oliver North was convicted of selling weapons to the Iranian government during the Iran/Iraq war to fund America’s covert war against the socialist Sandinista government in Nicaragua. The incident became infamous as the Iran Contra scandal. Other controversial pardons in recent history include President Gerald Ford granting clemency to President Richard Nixon for Watergate and installing a vigilante program against political dissidents. President Bill Clinton pardoned billionaire fugitive Marc Rich while George W Bush commuted Scooter Libby's sentence, the man convicted of the CIA leak scandal. There is an international precedent for recognizing and releasing political prisoners. France did it with its anarchists, Germany with the Red Army, Great Britain with the IRA. Not the US government. While a Senate committee once recognized the abuses committed by the FBI in persecuting activists for political reasons, Obama continues a long tradition of presidents who refuses to use his power of pardon for America’s alleged political prisoners. http://rt.com/usa/news/obama-political-prisoners-usa/ added by: MotherForTruth

Nicole Richie, Joel Madden Marry

Good Charlotte rocker and reality star tie the knot at the Los Angeles home of the bride’s father Lionel Richie. By Mawuse Ziegbe Joel Madden and Nicole Richie (file) Photo: Getty Images Nicole Richie and Joel Madden are officially husband and wife. The couple, who began dating four years ago and have two children together, tied the knot Saturday at the Los Angeles home of soul singer Lionel Richie, the bride’s father, according to People. An array of stars helped the couple celebrate their nuptials, including No Doubt frontwoman Gwen Stefani, celebrity DJ Samantha Ronson and Madden’s twin and Good Charlotte bandmember, Benji. People also reports another unique guest made an impression at the wedding: the affair apparently included a trained elephant that was seen being led to the wedding site. According to UsMagazine.com, Reverend Run presided over the ceremony. A source told People the pair were going for “an Old Hollywood glamorous feel to the wedding.” The duo have a son, Sparrow, and a daughter, Harlow, together and announced earlier this year that they were ready to head down the aisle. Madden took to Twitter to announce the news in February. “Yep. I’m engaged. Very happy,” he said. “Yeah, we’ve been engaged for a while, so you’re all kind of late on that. But thanks for the hoopla all the same.” While Madden turned to social media to inform fans of the engagement, Richie went to late-night TV, confirming to David Letterman that she and Madden were slated to swap vows. “We actually recently are engaged, yes,” Richie said. In 2008, Madden told MTV News that becoming a family man has affected his approach to music, and he is more conscious of the image he presents to his fanbase. “It’s definitely made me think about my fans a little more, because they’re people’s kids, so I care what they think,” he said. “And I care what I’m saying to them, because I want people to think about what they’re saying to my child. … So it makes me care about what I’m doing a little bit more. And it makes you think about other people too.” Share your well-wishes for the couple in the comments! Democrats Attack WikiLeaks or Remain Silent, but Republican Ron Paul Says: ‘State Secrecy is Anathema to a Free Society’

The Obama administration condemns WikiLeaks in the most extreme terms, with White House spokesman Robert Gibbs referring to the people involved in the leaking and distribution of diplomatic cables as “criminals,” and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton describing the latest WikiLeaks revelations as an ” attack on America's foreign policy interests.” Attorney General Eric Holder talks of using the Espionage Act and other tools to go after WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. Democrats in Congress echo the criticisms—with Senate Foreign Relations Committee chair John Kerry ripping Assange for having done “real damage” to US interests—or simply remain silent. Some are openly working with neoconservative Republicans to come up with new laws to restrict the flow of information about US foreign policy, Is anyone in official Washington standing up for transparency? Is anyone saying that we should be more concerned about the revelations of wrongdoing than killing the messenger? Yes, if you count Texas Congressman Ron Paul as a resident of official Washington. The Texas Republican who has long been the sternest critic in Congress of the imperial ambitions of presidents of both parties, rejects the notion that WikiLeaks is the problem. Robert Pattinson Drives ‘Intense’ Bidding On Charity Auction Website

One fan pays $80,000 to meet RPattz on the set of ‘Breaking Dawn.’ By Jocelyn Vena Robert Pattinson Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images This week, a fan paid $80,000 in a charity auction through CharityBuzz to meet Robert Pattinson and get to visit the set of “Breaking Dawn.” And while it comes as no surprise that fans were clamoring for the chance to get up close and personal with the actor, Glenda Luft, director of communications for the site, told MTV News the bidding war was more intense than they could have ever imagined. “Bidding was definitely intense!” she told MTV News. “The package was hovering at $47,000 for a few days and then at $67,000, but we were so thrilled to see it jump to $80,000 in the very last moments of the auction.” So how did it all come together? “Summit Entertainment put the auction package together to raise funds for the GO Campaign, which empowers vulnerable children and orphans around the world,” she explained. “Summit included the incredibly rare opportunity to visit the set of ‘Twilight: Breaking Dawn’ in Vancouver for four people total, with hotel accommodations at a deluxe executive suite at the elite Four Seasons Hotel in Vancouver and VIP limousine service to and from the ‘Breaking Dawn’ set. As if that wasn’t enough, Summit also promised the winner an opportunity to meet Robert Pattinson on set!” There was one major stipulation: “The fans will need to be on their best behavior, as there is a strict conduct code to act in a ‘responsible and appropriate manner at all times during the experience.’ ” The fan might be excited, but so is the charity. “The GO Campaign was thrilled when we learned we’d have this ‘Twilight’ auction item because of all the good work it will help us accomplish,” Scott Fifer, executive director of the GO Campaign, said in a statement. “The funds raised will help us support tens of thousands of children around the world.” While they couldn’t share anything about the winner, Luft did share that Pattinson’s popularity made him one of the biggest auctions of the year — but he was beat by a Beatle. “This is one of our top celebrity auctions of the season, but not the highest in CharityBuzz’s history,” she said. “Yesterday, we auctioned the chance to meet Paul McCartney for $130,000!” Luft added that other big auctions on the site right now include chances to meet Prince William, U2’s The Edge and Taylor Swift. ‘The Tourist’: The Reviews Are In!

Not all critics were won over by Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp’s star power. By Eric Ditzian Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp in “The Tourist” Photo: Sony Pictures Critics may not be fawning over “The Tourist,” but Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie remain big box-office draws, perhaps even more so internationally than here in the States. So while oodles of critics continue to take shots at the new flick, it’s likely to attract a sizeable audience. But will “The Tourist” top the $20 million mark? Will it fall short? Is the movie the right choice for you this weekend, as it faces other new entrants like “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” or the platform release “The Fighter”? Check out what the critics are saying and decide for yourself. The Story “One morning in Paris (France, we’re helpfully informed), the exquisite Elise Ward (Jolie) strolls down to her favorite cafe and receives a letter from her lover, Alexander Pearce, whom we eventually learn is an elusive, high-class thief wanted for stealing $744 million. Her actions are closely monitored by a team of Scotland Yard detectives led by Inspector Acheson (Paul Bettany, high-strung), whose determination to collar Pearce borders on obsession. Following Pearce’s exact instructions, Elise hops a Venice-bound train, where she subtly puts the moves on Frank Tupelo (Depp), a random, slightly rumpled American traveler whose provenance (‘a math teacher from Wisconsin’) is the script’s idea of a joke worth repeating. Employing an arsenal of suggestive glances and coy one-liners, Elise contrives to throw the cops off the scent by making them think Frank is Pearce.” — Justin Chang, Variety The Elegant Details ” ‘The Tourist’ is one of those movies that will leave some viewers scratching their heads, wondering why there isn’t more action, more snazzy editing, more obvious crackle between its stars, Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie. But I suspect the people who get ‘The Tourist’ will simply adore it: It’s the kind of espionage caper that doesn’t get made anymore, a visually sensuous picture made with tender attention to detail and an elegant, understated sense of humor. In style and construction, its spiritual godfather is Stanley Donen’s ‘Charade’; thematically, its fairy godmother is Preston Sturges’ ‘The Lady Eve.’ If it were a drink, it would be a Bellini, fizzy and sweet and dry all at the same time.” — Stephanie Zacharek, Movieline The Romantic Drama ” ‘The Tourist’ nearly works as a slow-paced, romantic drama. Unfortunately this isn’t a slow-paced, romantic drama; it’s supposed to be some kind of action-thriller. But the script is as light on action as it is on thrills and director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck’s movie crawls by at a snail’s pace, relying on star chemistry and beautiful backdrops to keep you interested in all the moments when nothing of any real consequence seems to be happening. While it’s true that there’s pleasure to be had in watching Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie motoring endlessly through the watery, stunning streets of Venice, there’s barely enough here to justify making it a movie.” — Josh Tyler, Cinema Blend The Dissenters “Star power can cover up a multitude of shortcomings in a film. Turns out stupidity isn’t one of them. Nor is a lack of chemistry when those stars are tossed into the same orbit. Throw in the feeling that they aren’t really trying, but instead showed up for the mondo payday and the first-rate locations and you have … well, you have ‘The Tourist,’ with Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp, a movie that is difficult to characterize as a disappointment because mediocrity seems to be what they were shooting for.” — Bill Goodyknoontz, The Arizona Republic The Final Word “It’s probably best to head into ‘The Tourist’ with the mindset that you’re going on an actual vacation yourself. If you’re in the mood for mindless, escapist fun — dazzling scenery, elegant evenings, decadent hotel suites and expensive clothes — you’ll be fine. There are all the obligatory chases and shootouts you’d expect in a romantic action caper, but you never get the sense that anyone’s in real danger. There are twists, but they won’t make you think too terribly hard, and in the end you will have devoted fewer than two hours of your life to a decent diversion.” — Christy Lemire, The Associated Press Check out everything we’ve got on “The Tourist.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
