The Voice returned Monday with a brand new twist, and some of the best vocalists in the show’s fifteen season history. Did Tuesday’s episode manage to keep up the pace? Well, there were some excellent performances and some terrible ones. Let’s break down the latest string of contestants making their way to the next round. Keith Paluso (Team Blake) – “Way Down We Go” This Kaleo classic is not an easy song to perform by any stretch of the imagination, but 30-year-old park ranger, Keith, made it his own. There wasn’t a bad thing to say about the performance. It was flawless and put a new spin on this song that has been used a little too much for emotional scenes on drama series. Team Blake should be good to Keith if the song choices are right for him. Claire DeJean (Team Kelly) – “Hurt Somebody” Meh. That’s about all there is to say about this performance. Clair is 17-years-old and teaches acting and dance. Her vocals were bland, and there was nothing to really distinguish her from some of the other performers who did not make the cut. Kelly took her on, but we think this is going to wind up being a big mistake. Franc West (Team Jennifer) – “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay” This was another sub-par performance. This 38-year-old took up singing while he was in the Navy, but he didn’t have the wow factor you expect from the people who advance to the next stage. Being on Jennifer’s team, there’s every reason to believe she will do her best to find the right genre of music for him. If she does not, he won’t make it very far. Michael Lee (Team Blake) – “The Thrill Is Gone” Michael flew through his performance. It was so fast-paced that it made the judges wonder what the heck was going on. But there was a solid voice in there, and one that could be nurtured by spending some time on Team Blake. Thankfully, he made his way to Mr. Shelton’s country crooner club. DeAndre Nico (Team Adam) – “When I Was Your Man” This NBC reality series usually saves the best for last, and DeAndre’s Bruno Mars cover found him with a four-chair turn. With vocals that reached dizzying heights, we think it’s fair to say that DeAndre performed better than Mars himself. He was THAT good. Former Counting On star Derick Dillard seems unable to stop his bigoted social media attacks on trans teen TV star Jazz Jennings. Fortunately, Jazz doesn’t care what Derick thinks , which is what the kids call a big mood . But even though Jazz is doing her level best to ignore his hate, Derick is firing back and doubling down on his claim that Jazz’s very existence is some form of child abuse. Derick Dillard still doesn’t have a job , and some wonder if that might be why he has so much extra time to tweet hateful things about Jazz Jennings and the trans community. In a recent interview, Jazz, who underwent gender confirmation surgery known as bottom surgery in June, said that she has a don’t-feed-the-trolls approach to Derick’s vitriolic tweets. She says that he’s just trying to elicit a reaction, and that she’s not going to give him what he wants. A Twitter account that appears to primarily exist to attempt to engage with various celebrities asked Derick if he has a response. Derick, seemingly thirsty for the attention, was only too happy to reply. “I just speak out against child abuse, and especially those who promote it, because it’s the right thing to do,” Derick claims in a tweet. “It’s just absolutely awful,” he has decided. “And should not be celebrated.” Obviously, parents supporting their trans children are doing the literal opposite of child abuse. But if you think that it’s hypocritical for a member of the extended Duggar family to make Derick’s statement, you’re not alone. Fans laid into Derick on the subject of child abuse. Fans had some serious questions for Derick. “Do you think blanket training is child abuse?” asked on person on Twitter. Blanket training, a practice of teaching months-old babies to obey their parents by using pain and fear, is advocated by Michael and Debi Pearl. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar are tied to this abusive practice . “You should speak out against Michael and Debi Pearl. Children have actually died at the hands of parents upholding the Pearls view of ‘child rearing.’ That’s child abuse,” says another tweet. “Teaching parents how to physically abuse infants and children,” the tweet continues. “Speak out against them.” But the practice of hitting babies to break their will at a young age isn’t the only child abuse scandal in the Duggar family. “You seemed to have no problem appearing on a TV show of a family that forced their sexually abused daughters to appear on Fox News,” accused another tweet. The tweet went on that the girls were forced “to say that none of them even knew what their brother was doing to them because they were all asleep, when the police report told a different story.” Another tweet also brought up Josh Duggar, asking: “So, when are u gonna speak up about your in laws promoting child abuse by protecting ypur brother in law?” That tweet continued: “Or does that not matter because they believe in God? You’re a hypocrite and a hateful man. You don’t get to hide behind god as a way of disguising that.” Child abuse is an extremely upsetting subject. Countless children every day live in fear of a family member or supposed “caregiver.” The world does not do enough to protect its children. Fortunately, Jazz, who will be 18 on October 6, 2018, has a loving and supportive family who have cheered her on as a girl and as an advocate. We only wish that more transgender children received love and support instead of responses like Derick’s. While Derick’s anti-trans attacks on Jazz saw him booted off of Counting On , the good folks over at The Ashley note that I Am Jazz begins airing its fifth season in 2019. Throughout her years on Teen Mom: OG , Farrah Abraham set the bar pretty high in terms of drama and truly absurd behavior. But believe it or not, the reality-star-turned-porn-star-turned-celebrity-boxer may have topped herself in her long-awaited return to television. As you may have heard, Farrah recently appeared on Face the Truth , a new syndicated talk show in which D-list celebs and other unfortunate souls volunteer to have their lives picked apart by a panel of hosts. Why would anyone submit themselves to this sort of treatment? That’s a great question that we’re not 100 percent qualified to answer, but we would assume it’s for roughly the same reason that you hate Facebook, yet continue to post non-stop status updates: It’s 2018, and now more than ever, negative attention is better than no attention at all. Anyway, Farrah’s estranged mother, Debra Danielsen, also appeared on the show, and it seems Deb is convinced that her daughter is on all the drugs. If you’re wondering how she may have gotten that impression, please watch any existing video clip of Farrah, and you’ll immediately understand. Farrah, of course, denied the allegations, but unfortunately for her, it’s quite easy to definitively determine if someone is on drugs. And so, tests were conducted, and to the surprise of absolutely no one, Farrah had barbiturates in her system. Of course, Farrah subscribes to the Trump theory of reality, which holds that there is no objective truth, and if you can successfully deflect blame onto a rival, then you can never be guilty of anything. And so, Ms. Abraham gave a long, rambling, extremely Farrah-esque interview in which she blamed FTT host Vivica A. Fox for tampering with the test results: “I was just actually more disappointed in the press that Vivica had to do in order to get press for her show,” Farrah told Radar Online. “She’s like, ‘Oh, people are sending in letters,’ No. You have a fake audience, you attack women, your advice isn’t even credible that you’re giving someone as I do go to therapy, I do have family therapy ongoing with my mom. Farrah went on to make wilds claims about her own health that can only be described as “Trumpian”: “I take it upon myself to have the best health to not have anything in — anything my doctors give me. Their drug test was false. My doctors all looked at everything they gave me, there’s no Barbiturates in there. “Vivica’s been on reality TV herself so I guess if she wants to say that I’m trash — I work my a– off. Like, I’m filming 24/7 right now, I’m sick, I’m on a reality TV show set nonstop, and I don’t stop working,” Farrah continued. “That’s way more drive and way more hard work than a TV talk show where you should up and you do fake talk TV and cause fake problems.” Vivica has yet to publicly respond to the accusations, which is probably for the best. For one thing, what we saw on the show speaks for itself. On top of that, this is Farrah we’re talking about, which means roughly half of what she said makes no sense at all. Last week on Alaskan Bush People , Gabe Brown risked life and limb working construction on the Brown family's new homestead. On the latest episode, however, it's not Gabe who's putting himself at risk. His older brother Matt Brown gets injured. It's a major setback for the Browns, as they explain in this video. How much will this delay construction? On Sunday night's new Alaskan Bush People episode, Matt Brown jumps down from too high and ends up injuring his knee. His siblings are concerned about his well being, but as Gabe explains to the camera, they are also concerned about delaying their construction project. “These are major setbacks,” Gabe laments to the camera. He shares his fear that: “It's gonna keep us from building the barn.” “It's pretty much worst case scenario,” Gabe worries. Matt may be able to walk, but not like he could before he twisted his knee. Rain Brown is only 15 (though she often acts as the family's de facto spokesperson on social media, she will not turn 16 until November 23, 2018). Despite that, she is so often the voice of reason — and even maturity. Even when she is speaking to Bam Bam, who is 34 entire years old. “I'm just going to be blunt with you,” Rain says. “I think you could help more.” Bam, we learn, has been showing up late and bristles in the face of being given instructions. Again, this is a grown man who was born in 1984. “It's really important for everyone to get involved with this,” Rain emphasizes. “Teamwork is important.” Though he had been messing around in the face of Matt's instructions, Rain's words do get through to Bam Bam. “I'm just me all the time,” Bam admits. You know what? He sure is. He then asks Rain to “just tell me,” when he's not being as helpful as he should. “So maybe I can fix it.” That sounds like it should be his responsibility rather than Rain's, but okay. Rain needs more from Bam Bam than showing up on time and working as a team. She admits that what he really brings to the group is a concern with safety. Matt and Gabe, in contrast, are daredevils who take risks like they have something to prove. “I think we actually need your help a lot more than we let on,” Rain tells Bam. She appreciates him agreeing to work on his behavior, and says: “I think that this is a good first step.” “We still need to get that working on a team level going,” Rain says. It sounds like Matt — and, honestly, Gabe — need to reign in their impulses, while Bam Bam needs to be more helpful. To be fair, they're all there to film the show. As we know, the Brown family have accumulated their share of wealth over what are now 8 seasons of reality televisions. They're not squatting on land in the wilderness — they're on Billy Brown's 435 property in rural Washington. Bam isn't there because he's a construction expert. He's there because he's a reality star and appearing on camera means that he gets paid. Still, that injury looks like the real deal. Maybe Matt should wisen up and realize that he's not as young as he once was. They all need to be careful.
