Michael Jackson to Star in New Pepsi Ad Campaign

Get ready to see Michael Jackson, or at least his likeness, back in action. Pepsi announced a deal with the late King of Pop’s estate that allows the brand to use the music legend’s image for its new global marketing push. What will the new Michael Jackson Pepsi commercial(s) and more entail? Maybe a live action hologram performance, a la Tupac at Coachella ? According to the Wall Street Journal, the nature of the promotion will vary by country, but will include a TV ad, special-edition Pepsi cans featuring Jackson’s image and chances to download remixes of Michael’s biggest hits. Pepsi’s chief creative officer, Brad Jakeman, said the broader Live for Now campaign took 10 months to develop and its aim is to amplify the company’s strong ties with popular culture, with Jackson obviously one of its all-time icons. Jackson first partnered with Pepsi in 1983, but in 1984, his hair caught fire while filming a commercial for the brand, an event that some believe led to his addiction to prescription drugs, which led to myriad problems throughout his life. What do you think of Pepsi using MJ’s image again?

Celebrity Cribs 2: Justin Bieber Is About To Be The Owner Of THIS Bangin’ Hollyweird Mansion! [Pics]

Damn it must feel good to be a Bieber! Justin Bieber Is Close To Buying L.A. Dream Mansion According to TMZ reports : 18-year-old Justin Bieber won’t be able to enjoy his L.A. dream mansion to the fullest — at least for the next three years — because one of its coolest amenities … is strictly for the 21+ crowd. As we previously reported, Bieber has put an offer on a 9,000 sq. ft. Calabasas estate way outside Hollywood — and among its awesome features … a fabulous wine cellar. Bieber won’t be able to avail himself of the cellar’s services — unless he plans to store Pepsi down there — but he WILL be able to enjoy the 6-bdrm mansion’s GIANT outdoor pool, spa, sauna, separate guest house, and private movie theater. As for the real selling point — the Calabasas community where the house is located is a veritable anti-paparazzi fortress … with several highly-guarded security gates. The community is also home to Travis Barker, NFL star Keyshawn Johnson, and Master P’s son Romeo. This sounds like party central when it comes to neighbors! Nicki Minaj to Promote New Pepsi Beverage

Nicki Minaj was ranked number-15 on Forbes ‘ Hip-Hop Cash Kings chart for 2011, pulling in $6.5 million and establishing herself as one of rap’s top earners. But we have a feeling that figure will go up considerably in 2012. The artist has signed on to become the new Pepsi spokesperson for an upcoming beverage that company will roll out in the near future, according to Derek Jackson, the man who brokered the deal. “You’ll see the commercial probably in the next two months,” Jackson told Forbes this week. “That’ll be a segue into a new beverage Pepsi has, called ‘Pop,’ and she’ll be the face of the brand… it’s going to be explosive.” The agreement is said to pay Minaj somewhere in the seven figure range. Super Bowl Ads: 10 Best Movie-Related Commercials

From VW’s ‘Star Wars’ spots to Brad Pitt’s Heineken run, advertisers have long used films in their Big Game commercials. By Eric Ditzian Matthew Broderick in his Honda CR-V commercial Photo: Honda Super Bowl kickoff is just days away, and while we couldn’t be more psyched to watch the New York Giants dismantle the New England Patriots (because, folks, that’s what will happen, end of story), we’re nearly as pumped to check out the game’s high-profile movie ads. Every year, corporate America pours millions of dollars into movie-related spots — some starring Hollywood A-listers, others riffing on classic films — in an attempt to convince inebriated football fans to buy cars, beer, junk food, deodorant and whatever else we probably don’t need but which might make our sad, empty lives have more meaning. At least that’s how we think ad agencies approach the biggest sporting event of the year. In preparation for the commercial excellence coming our way Sunday, we took a look at Super Bowls past — as well as this year’s pigskin classic — to pick the 10 greatest movie-related ads of all time. 10. Honda’s Riff on “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” This one sneaks onto the list neither because it’s a great commercial (it’s not) nor because it’s hilarious to see Matthew Broderick once again telling us that life moves pretty fast (it’s just depressing). No, this 2012 Honda ad makes the cut because there’s never, ever going to be a “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” sequel, and if this is a close as we get, hey, we’ll take it. 9. Nissan’s “Top Gun” Pigeons Imagine being inside an ad agency when some creative exec pitches an ad in which a bunch of flyboy pigeons take flight, to the tune of “Top Gun” hit song “Danger Zone,” and attempt to poop all over a Nissan Maxima, but the car is too damn speedy and the birds — one of them voiced by “Cheers” mailman John Ratzenberger — can’t unload on it. And the Nissan suits say, “Hell yes! Let’s fork over a million dollars and air this baby during the Super Bowl.” The late ’90s were weird. And awesome. 8. Budweiser’s Alcoholic Dog Would a dog’s most traumatic memory be the time he tried to chase after a Bud truck? Would this be the recollection a dog, in the best tradition of a method actor, turns to on a movie set to cry on cue during a maudlin death scene? Do dogs drink beer? Listen, it’s the Super Bowl. These things don’t have to make sense. 7. Visa’s Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon Everyone’s favorite movie-related drinking game made a very amusing appearance in the 2002 Super Bowl, as Kevin Bacon attempted to pull off what just might be a bit of credit-card fraud. Now drink! 6. Heineken’s Brad Pitt Beer Run We suppose there’s a world in which Brad Pitt doesn’t have an army of underlings to send out on a beer run and instead has to stroll, under cover of darkness and as a thousand rabid paparazzi converge on him, to the market to pick up a six-pack. In a far different world, Heineken spent roughly the GDP of a third-world country to hire Pitt, license the Rolling Stones’ “Gimme Shelter” and produce ad in 2005. 5. FedEx’s “Cast Away” Resolution Who didn’t want to ring Tom Hanks’ neck in “Cast Away” and be like, “Dude, just open that FedEx box, ’cause there’s totally a satellite phone, a GPS locator, a fishing rod and a water purifier in there”? This 2003 Super Bowl ad gave us the next best thing. 4. Noxema’s Cream Ad with Farrah Fawcett and Joe Namath This ad, starring the movie star and the New York Jets QB, might not make it by today’s network censors. So it’s simply amazing that it aired during the 1973 Bowl and had Namath cooing, ”I’m so excited, I’m going to get creamed!” as Fawcett slid into frame. 3. Pepsi’s Michael J. Fox Apartment: “Apartment 10G” (1987) In 1987, Michael J. Fox had it all — except some Diet Pepsi to offer his very new, totally bodacious next-door neighbor. So MJF does what anyone in his position would do: He jumps out his window in the rain to fetch her some calorie-free pop. Gentlemanly! Of course, when he returns with soda can in hand, he learns the new gal has an equally gorgeous roommate. Both of them love Diet Pepsi. And Michael J. Fox. City living is the best! 2. Volkswagen’s Bark Side Eleven dogs. One “Star Wars” theme song. Nothing more needs to be said. In fact, nothing is said the entire time (in the same, savvy style as spot ). Just Budweiser’s 1995 frog watch it before it airs during this year’s game. Genius. 1. Volkswagen’s Force When a little boy clad as Darth Vader held up his hands, attempting to use the Force to start a Passat, he also jumpstarted the hearts of every Super Bowl viewer on the planet. Last year’s classic ad was the perfect synthesis of everything a Big Game spot should aspire to be: cute but not too cute, funny without trying too hard, nostalgic yet utterly fresh. Though we somehow doubt parents raised on “Star Wars” rushed over to the local VW dealership seeking the sense of familial togetherness apparent in the commercial, that’s not really the point (at least outside ad agencies and automobile manufacturers). Honestly, most of the people talking about the ad probably couldn’t even name what kind of car the kid Force-ifies. What’s key is people were talking — and still are talking a year later. ‘First Date’ With Outasight: The Pepsi Connection

Singer’s ‘Tonight Is the Night’ is featured in Pepsi campaign alongside footage of Kanye, Britney and Michael Jackson. By Steven Roberts Outasight In all honesty, most people are probably more familiar with Outasight ‘s song “Tonight Is the Night” than they are with him. And that is in no way a knock on Outasight. After all, the song is a big part of Pepsi’s “Who’s Next” campaign, having been featured in the soft drink company’s latest legacy commercial, which includes footage from past Pepsi ads featuring Kanye West , Britney Spears and the King of Pop, Michael Jackson . But hopefully those commercials will start to win Outasight some attention. The song actually debuted on the second episode of Fox’s reality competition show “The X Factor,” and it’s been slowly gaining momentum ever since. The Dori Oskowitz-directed video for the pop, party anthem was dropped early last month, and it features Outasight and friends preparing, embarking and wrapping up an incredible — or typical — night of fun in New York City. The Yonkers MC and singer is already seven mixtapes deep in his relatively short career, and his still-unnamed debut album is expected next year. He’s been making music for as long as he can remember, but it wasn’t until he discovered he could combine both of his talents of singing and rapping that he found he could really be Outasight. “Singing and rapping were separate entities,” Outasight said. “Then Mos Def and artists like that inspired me. I saw you can do it — you can sing and rap and make it gel. I started taking my craft more seriously and just kept working on it. It’s just a natural thing. It’s never planned out. It kind of flows.” Related Videos MTV News First Date Related Artists Outasight

Paula Abdul’s ‘X Factor’ Meltdown: The Full Story

Simon Cowell calls fellow judge ‘very brave,’ while Nicole Scherzinger says eliminating Stereo Hogzz ‘broke my heart.’ By Jim Cantiello Paula Abdul Photo: FOX America, why are you so mean to poor Paula Abdul? On Thursday night’s “X Factor” results show, the emotional judge and mentor was forced to eliminate one of her groups for the second week in a row thanks to her contestants landing in the bottom two of America’s vote. A distraught Abdul brought the live show to a standstill as she refused to eliminate either of her groups, eventually choosing to send home girl group Lakoda Rayne. Ultimately, she was out-voted by the other three judges, who cut Atlanta-based R&B five-some Stereo Hogzz instead. At an afterparty at the swanky Pepsi House in the West Hollywood Hills, “The X Factor” team recalled how tense and uncomfortable the elimination was for all parties involved. “Part of me didn’t like it, part of me was loving every minute because if it was the other way around, she would have really gone for me,” Simon Cowell snarked before getting serious and defending his old friend: “She loved [Stereo Hogzz,] and it was her big hope,” he said, explaining why Abdul was extra emotional. Host Steve Jones, who’s caught flack in the press for being so strict with the judges, was beside himself over how it played out on television. “I feel terrible I was complicit in that meltdown,” Jones told MTV News. “I was upset. I don’t want to see Paula like that. I know she’s a professional but I am too and my job is to get an answer from her. And if I can’t get an answer, then she abstains, and I move on. That’s the way that the show works. “But I got like five producers screaming in my ear, ‘Steve, we need an answer. OK, she’s not gonna answer, move on. No, wait, she is gonna answer. Move back!’ And chuck Simon Cowell into the mix going, ‘Back off! Leave her alone.’ Whoa, everybody’s giving me major major abuse here from both inside my head and outside my head,” Jones recalled through the haze of a head cold. Despite having words with Jones on the air, Cowell praised the way the host handled the situation. “Steve was in a difficult position. He had to explain the rules, and I think once the rules were explained to us, I didn’t even know [them], then she had to make the decision. I think [Paula] was very brave.” Judge Nicole Scherzinger added, “I was crying as well. I’m an artist first, not a judge. And I know what it feels like [to be rejected,] and I know how much it means to them, and it broke my heart. It broke my heart to send someone home.” Meanwhile, Abdul chalked up her category’s rough start to producers not introducing groups in a way that endears them to viewers. “Our job is to really help America connect with [group members] individually as well as who they are as a group. It’s a learning curve, first season.” Abdul was still upset at the after party, visibly wiping away tears after huddling with her remaining group, Lakoda Rayne, on the red carpet. But the Rayne girls insist they have no hard feelings towards their mentor, even though she had just cast a vote against them. “I could only imagine what Paula’s going through emotionally,” Lakoda’s Hayley Orrantia said. “We can’t blame her for what she said and had to do. We know that she does love us and support us, and we’re here to win this for her.” Fellow judge L.A. Reid was also sympathetic to Abdul’s sticky situation. “What was going through my mind is: ‘I’m glad it wasn’t me,’ because Paula’s put in so much time with these contestants. She really mentored them. She did not delegate responsibilities to others. She did the work, so it’s tough for the second week for her talent to be at the bottom of the voting. I didn’t want it to be me.” When asked if he’ll shed a tear if he lands two contestants in the bottom two, the music mogul responded with an eye roll: “Yeah, right.” The Top 10 will battle it out Wednesday night when “The X Factor” takes on rock music, a theme Cowell spilled to MTV News. Good news for Abdul: She has only one group left, meaning another judge will definitely have a contestant up for elimination next week. Her “Sophie’s Choice” days are over. Sound off about the “X Factor” elimination in the comments below! Related Artists Paula Abdul
