‘Dancing With The Stars’ Recap: Kate Gosselin ‘Has No Motivation’

Nicole Scherzinger’s ‘Pretty Woman’ tango, however, earns high praise on ‘movie night.’ By Kelley L. Carter Kate Gosselin and Tony Dovolani Photo: ABC The drama was upped Monday night on “Dancing With the Stars.” Of course, comedy, music and action were in the mix too, given that the theme was “movie night,” and the celebs were shimmying and doing the splits to tunes heard in popular films. Comedian Niecy Nash and Louis Van Amstel, who wanted to come back strong after flatlining on the rumba last week, were up first. The duo performed the jive from “La Bamba,” and at a practice before the dance, Nash joked, “I’m looking forward to shaking things I didn’t even realize I had.” She ended her performance with a big kiss on judge Len Goodman’s forehead, but that did nothing to help boost her score. The judges thought the performance lacked the necessary sharpness that should be present at this stage of the game. “You got your personality into that dance, which is great,” Goodman said. “There should have been more bounce in your feet. There was plenty of bounce in your bazookas, but we wanted it more in your feet.” Still, he thought the approach to her dance was great and an improvement. “On behalf of thick girls everywhere, y’all need to vote for me. I’m tired and I’m hungry. That was a lot,” Nash joked. Score: 18 out of 30. Chad Ochocinco and Cheryl Burke hoped to build on the momentum of last week’s touchdown performance, dancing a quickstep to “Jungle Book” track, “Bear Necessities.” The judges thought the football player lost the refinement and control that he pulled off the week earlier, saying that the hold and frame were terrible. “It’s very unnerving,” Carrie Ann Inaba said. “What was lacking most was the body contact.” Score: 18. ESPN reporter Erin Andrews and Maksim Chmerkovskiy took a page from “Pulp Fiction” and channeled their inner John Travolta and Uma Thurman. Goodman said it was a tough routine, though they coped with it really well. “This is your best timing, ever,” Bruno Tonioli observed. Score: 22. Jake Pavelka started his dance with partner Chelsie Hightower with his pants on the ground as an homage to Tom Cruise in “Risky Business.” The couple did what the judges thought was an animated and fun cha-cha to Bob Seger’s big hit “Old Time Rock and Roll.” “You got the guts, so you better enjoy the glory. I loved that dance; the whole package,” Inaba said. Score: 23. Pamela Anderson and Damian Whitewood picked Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5” flick and tune for their quickstep and impressed the judges. “Every week you’re in character right through the dance. You never lose it,” Tonioli said. Inaba suggested that Anderson was so entertaining that she should consider performing on Broadway. “There’s something about you that is fascinating to watch,” Inaba told her. Score: 21. Kate Gosselin and Tony Dovolani did the foxtrot to “Don’t You Forget About Me” from “The Breakfast Club.” Gosselin’s partner was frustrated with her leading up to Monday night’s show. “Kate has no motivation, and I have to push her every week,” Dovolani said. The judges also weren’t thrilled. “There is some sort of grace that is developing,” Inaba said. “I give you a lot of credit for that. But when I watch you dance, it’s kind of like the Charlie Brown teacher. It never becomes a formed sentence or a formed move.” Goodman agreed, saying, “It wasn’t really a dance, it was a stroll. It had an elegance about it, but you’ve got to dance out more.” They were this week’s low scorers, with a 15. Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough danced a tango to “Pretty Woman,” and collected the night’s highest marks from the judges. “Well, Nicole, that for me was your best dance and the best dance of the season so far,” Goodman said. Tonioli called them the two players at the top of the game. “The lines were incredible,” Inaba said. “You could have taken a snapshot and it would have been art; beautiful.” Score: 29. Olympian Evan Lysacek and his partner Anna Trebunskaya took on the rumba to music from “Armageddon.” The judges found their moves sophisticated and Lysacek’s hip action fluid. “This had artistry. It had musicality. You got the hip action going. I thought you did a great job, Evan,” Goodman said. Score: 27. What did you think of last night’s “Dancing With the Stars”? Adam Lambert Picks His ‘American Idol’ Favorites, Plans Another Visit

‘I hope to come back for the finale,’ he tells MTV News. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Kelly Marino Adam Lambert Photo: Dr. Billy Ingram/WireImage After spending a week as a guest mentor on “American Idol,” Adam Lambert learned a few things about this year’s crop of contestants. First and foremost, he wasn’t all that shocked to see Katie Stevens and Andrew Garcia get the boot after the pair turned in “sleepy” performances. “You know, I think at this point in the competition, it comes down to ‘Do you want to be there, or do you not want to be there?’ ” Lambert told MTV News on the red carpet of the GLAAD Media Awards on Saturday in Los Angeles. “You’ve got to step it up, get some caffeine going. They were a little sleepy.” Secondly, he already has a favorite to win the season-nine crown — or, more specifically, four favorites. He also thinks everyone should start packing lasers, like he did for his performance of “Whataya Want From Me” on “Idol.” “There’s some amazing voices this year. I think Crystal [Bowersox], Casey [James], Lee [Dewyze] and Michael [Lynche], for me, those four really stand out as authentic, pure, amazing vocals,” he said. “But everyone was really sweet and really friendly and really receptive. I had a great time mentoring, and I had a really good time putting on my laser show. I got lasers! I was so excited. I was like a little kid.” And since he had such a great time on the show, Lambert said he hopes he can make another appearance during the season-nine finale. He wanted to show up for this week’s “Idol Gives Back” event, but his schedule won’t allow it. “I hope to come back for the finale. Unfortunately, I’m going to be gone for ‘Idol Gives Back,’ ” he said. “I leave this Sunday. I’m going to be in Europe for three weeks, promoting my album. … It comes out in the U.K. at the end of the month, and I’m so excited to see how it does over there.” What do you think about Adam’s “Idol” assessment? Laura Bell Bundy ACM performance

By the end of the performance, Laura Bell Bundy could barely breathe, much less sing! She panted her way through a back-flip before wheezing out the last few words of the song. Of course, Britney can#39;t sing and dance at the same time, either … but then again, Britney isn#39;t looking to perform at the Grand Ole Opry any time soon. American singer and actress Laura Ashley Bell Bundy, who is best known for her role in the The Musical, performed at the ACM Awards. In the start of 2010 this

Brooke White, Justin Gaston Smolder In ‘Idol’ Duet

The duo sang Elvis ballad ‘If I Can Dream’ on Wednesday night’s results show. By Gil Kaufman Brooke White and Justin Gaston perform on Wednesday’s “American Idol” Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images They may not have been bathed in smoky green lasers like Adam Lambert , but former “American Idol” finalist Brooke White and underwear model/ Miley Cyrus ex Justin Gaston had some simmering chemistry on their side on Wednesday night, when they performed a duet on the elimination show that served as the finale for Andrew Garcia and Katie Stevens . Gaston, 21, a former contestant on “Nashville Star” and current participant in the Web series “If I Can Dream,” brought his smoldering good looks to the performance of the Elvis Presley ballad also called “If I Can Dream.” The performance began with White, season seven’s fifth-place finisher, seated at a grand piano trading lines with Gaston, who gently strummed an acoustic guitar, his signature shoulder-length hair falling out of his ponytail just so. White soon hopped up and gazed at Gaston as they sang the lines, “If I can dream of a warmer sun/ Where hope keeps shining on everyone,” while the accompanying string section revved up and images of puffy clouds filled the screen behind them. Both wearing slim black suits, the pair spent much of the performance alternating between staring into each other’s eyes and belting out the inspirational tune while facing the studio audience, ending the song with their faces just inches away from each other. In the awkward chit-chat afterwards — during which host Ryan Seacrest reminded Gaston that White is married — the pair revealed that they’d first meet only a week and a half ago and had put the performance together very quickly. The gospel-inspired tune was recorded by Presley in 1968, just two months after the assassination of the civil-rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., and it makes use of some of King’s quotes in a plea for peace and understanding. It also served as the rousing finale of Elvis’ famous 1968 comeback special on NBC, “Elvis,” in which the singer performed an “Unplugged”-style show in front of a small studio audience as he attempted to jump start his career after years of cheesy movies and questionable records. It was Elvis’ first live performance in seven years, and the song was added to the special at the last minute by musical director W. Earl Brown, who also penned the number. The song has a history on “Idol”: Season-five runner-up Elliot Yamin sang it during Elvis week, and Celine Dion did it as a virtual duet with Elvis the following season. Though Gaston’s musical career has not yet taken off, it’s possible he’s honing his chops these days by jamming with another former “Idol” contestant, Alex Lambert . The beloved, painfully shy singer, who was unexpectedly booted before reaching the top 12, moved into the “If I Can Dream” house shortly after his ouster and has vowed to keep pursuing his musical dreams. ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Kicks Aiden Turner To The Curb

Kate Gosselin saved from elimination despite another low-scoring night. By Kelley L. Carter Edyta Sliwinska and Aiden Turner Photo: ABC “Dancing With The Stars” will be a little less hunky, not that Aiden Turner, the British “All My Children” soap stud, was eliminated Tuesday night. “Each week I came out here, I gave it my all and I got less nervous dancing in front of an audience, and last night I had the best time,” Turner said after his elimination. Joining him in the bottom three were comedienne Niecy Nash and reality-TV mom Kate Gosselin, the latter of whom managed to survive another week in spite of being Monday night’s lowest scorer. The first two safe couples of the night were Chad Ochocinco and partner Cheryl Burke, and “Bachelor” star Jake Pavelka and partner Chelsie Hightower. Before they knew if they were safe, Pamela Anderson and partner Damian Whitewood, were asked to repeat Monday’s rumba, the dance with which she wanted show the judges that she could be a refined dancer, not just sexy. To draw out the suspense, the show aired clips of mock movie trailers, which helped promote next week’s theme of “Movie Night.” “Ten seasons, first time I’m actually speechless,” host Tom Bergeron joked after airing a trailer that featured a partner dance play on “Rambo.” Tuesday night’s guest performances were diverse. Chart-topping artist Sade performed her latest single, “Babyfather,” and an old favorite “Sweetest Taboo.” Nuttin’ But Stringz, the violin-playing brothers Damien and Tourie Escobar added some hip-hop flavor to the show, delivering a high-energy string set layered over traditional hip-hop break beats, while dancers from the New York City ballet performed in front of them. And then montages of grainy video and old school photos of the show’s professional dancers were shown, followed by performances by younger dancers who represent the future of ballroom. Backstage, after being saved, Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger talked about why she cried at the conclusion of Monday night’s show. “I was upset about my performance,” she said. “I was upset because I let my nerves get the best of me. I was just really frustrated with myself.” Related Photos The 2010 Cast Of ‘Dancing With The Stars’

American Idol Producer: Adam Lambert Should Be a Major Star!

Because the guy is an incredible talent. He genuinely is. And it kind of breaks my heart to see someone with that much talent struggle a bit. So hopefully we can do back for him as he can do for us.” Adam Lambert returns to the stage that made him famous this week. Aside from mentoring tonight, Lambert will return to the American Ido l stage tomorrow. From there, it’s off to the GLAAD awards Saturday evening for another performance.
