Katy Perry To ‘Engage All Your Senses’ On Tour Next Year

She also reveals she’s in no rush to drop another song since she’s ‘too happy’ about current single ‘Teenage Dream.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by James Montgomery Katy Perry Photo: Steve Granitz/WireImage Katy Perry is still riding high off the successes of her first two Teenage Dream singles: the VMA-nominated “California Gurls” and “Teenage Dream.” Now fans are hankering to know what she might release next from the album, but Perry is keeping that detail under wraps. “The third single I can’t reveal yet, because I’m too happy about ‘Teenage Dream,’ ” she told MTV News on the VMA white carpet. “And I love secrets.” But she did leave fans with a hint, describing the video for the next single as “touching.” With an emotional track lined up, Perry also has some plans to tour sometime next year. “I hope that it’s going to engage all of your senses: sight, sound, smell, taste, touch,” she explained, adding that she had a warning for anyone who has been trying to take a bite out of her scented cotton-candy album cover. “It smells good, but you can’t eat the album. I’ve had people eating the album, and I can’t take responsibility for that.” Perry also revealed how excited she’s been with the response to the album and its singles. “There’s not many more places to go than #1,” she said. “There’s number zero, but that could be a Catch-22.” Perry seemed most excited for her next big goal, which she intended to address right after the VMAs: “[I need] some sleep, because I’m really sick,” she said. “Nursing that cold!” What single do you want Katy to release next? Disturbed Knock Katy Perry From Billboard #1 Slot

Eminem’s Recovery holds at #3. By Gil Kaufman Disturbed’s “Asylum” Photo: Warner Music Group It was a short trip to the top for Katy Perry . Despite locking down not one but two of the summer’s biggest smashes with “California Gurls” and the title track to her Teenage Dream album, Perry lost her #1 slot on the Billboard 200 after just one week, as veteran Chicago metal act Disturbed wrangle their fourth #1 debut in a row with Asylum . The album moved 179,000 copies, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan. They’re followed by the 35th edition of the Now! series at #2 (105,000), with Eminem holding pat at the #3 slot with Recovery, which moved another 93,000, putting his smash return to form one week away from passing the 2.5 million mark. Other newcomers in the top 10 include R&B singer Lyfe Jennings , who hit #6 with I Still Believe (36,000), the Goo Goo Dolls with Something for the Rest of Us (#7, 34,000) and classic-rock sister duo Heart , whose Red Velvet Car crashes in at #10 on sales of 27,000. In an overall weak sales period, the rest of the top 10 include Perry at #4 (88,000, down 54 percent), Fantasia , Back to Me (#5, 40,000, down 66 percent from week one), Justin Bieber , My World 2.0 (#8, 31,000) and Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam (#9, 28,000). After debuting at #4, Usher ‘s Versus drops to #13 as sales were cut in half to 22,000, while the Arcade Fire hold mostly steady with The Suburbs, which ticks up two spots to #14 (21,000) as the Canadian indie heroes steam toward 300,000 sold in just over a month. Academy Award-winning country songwriter Ryan Bingham debuts at #19 with Junky Star (17,000), while alt metal rockers Papa Roach hit #23 (16,000) with their first live album, Time for Annihilation … On the Record and On the Road, which also contains five new studio tracks. As it turns out, there was plenty of competition for Fabolous , whose There Is No Competition 2: The Funeral Service could only muster a #32 debut (12,000), while real-life indie couple Jenny and Johnny come in at #37 with their debut, I’m Having Fun Now (10,000). Perry’s run at the top of the iTunes album charts was also a quick one, as Disturbed topple her there as well, pushing the pop tart down to #2, followed by Eminem, Goo Goo Dolls, Arcade Fire, Mumford & Sons ‘ Sigh No More , the Camp Rock soundtrack, the Weepies ‘ Be My Thrill , Ray LaMontagne and the Pariah Dogs ‘ God Willin’ & the Creek Don’t Rise and Bingham. Though iTunes does not release detailed sales data, it’s clear Perry still has some singles love, as “Teenage Dream” continues its run atop the iTunes singles chart, followed by the same, slightly shuffled cast of characters including Bruno Mars (“Just the Way You Are”), Taio Cruz (“Dynamite”), Eminem (“Love the Way You Lie”), Usher (“DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love”), Enrique Iglesias (“I Like It”), Nelly (“Just a Dream”), Ke$ha (“Take It Off”), Taylor Swift (“Mine”) and B.o.B (“Magic”). Things should be pretty tame at the top next week, as new albums by Stone Sour , Interpol and Anberlin jockey for position with the latest from singer/songwriter Sara Bareilles . Katy Perry Drops Some Hipster Cleavage

I don’t think I’m cropping these pictures properly, obviously I want to get Katy Perry’s hipster boobs in the shot, but her face not so much. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes her face looks good, but next to those boobies it just doesn’t stand a chance. If she wants to look good she should have her picture taken next to a donkey or one of the girls from the Jersey Shore , but stay away from the boobs because the cleavage is going to win every time.

Katy Perry To Perform On ‘SNL’ Season Premiere

‘California Gurls’ singer tweets about performing on September 25 episode. By Kara Warner Katy Perry Photo: Alberto E. Rodriguez/ WireImage She had two singles battling it out for the summer jam of 2010, tackled hosting duties for the Teen Choice Awards, is vying for two VMAs (her “California Gurls” is up for Best Female Video and Best Pop Video) and now America’s current pop sweetheart Katy Perry can add “SNL” performer to her ever-expanding resume. Perry’s more astute fans might have been able to guess the news before the singer made it official, given Perry’s somewhat cryptic Tweet directed at “SNL” alum and the 36th season premiere host, Amy Poehler: “Dear Amy Poehler can I please be your braced faced neighbor friend that hangs out with you & RICKKKKK!” We assume that comment is referring to Poehler’s “Kaitlin” character — the precocious, excitable and extremely loud 10-year-old who appeared in a series of sketches alongside “Rick!” (played by Horatio Sanz). Shortly thereafter, Perry followed her Poehler-themed Tweet with the official announcement: “OKAY! My BIG surprise is I’m opening the season of SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE on Sept 25 W/SNL Alum Amy Poehler!!!” she wrote, followed by a link to her official website with the announcement. MTV News tracked down a representative from “SNL” to confirm Perry’s appearance, though whether the pop star will be included in any of the cast’s sketches remains to be seen. Given Perry’s plucky performance at the — during which she impersonated a series of stereotypical high school characters with her co-hosts (the guys from “Glee”) — she seems a shoe-in for inclusion in at least one of the show’s many vignettes. Katy Perry Makes Her Sexy Face

I’m somewhat disgusted and more than a little aroused by these pictures of Katy Perry signing autographs the other day. This is not a good angle for her, although it is a pretty good angle for us. I’m confused. She looks like an old lady movie star from the twenties with a pair of nineteen year old boobs. I guess it could be worse, it could be the other way around. more pictures of Katy Perry here

Katy Perry Goes Futuristic In ‘Teenage Dream’ German TV Spot

Pop star shoots 90-second commercial to current single as she channels characters including Marilyn Monroe. By James Dinh Katy Perry in her commercial for German TV channel ProSieben’s “Star Force” Photo: Capitol/ ProSieben From whipped-cream-loaded bras to pink cotton candy clouds, Katy Perry has delivered her share of eye-catching visuals throughout the unveiling of her Teenage Dream album. And in a new commercial for German TV channel ProSieben’s “Star Force,” she keeps the momentum going as she cranks up the colors and jumps into the future. In the 90-second spot , which is basically an alternative, shortened mini-video for her single “Teenage Dream,” the singer plays a sort of singing robot inside the walls of a beaming city building from the future. As it begins, we see a woman with lots of frosted makeup robotically walk alongside skintight-clad space people towards a moving door. They approach a still and assumingly “turned off” pop star until a juke box turns on and plays the familiar tune. Bringing to life a futuristic Katy Perry, the singer channels Marilyn Monroe’s iconic fluttering-white-dress look. The singer then transforms into a 1950s housewife with a polka-dot geometric dress. But with a blink of an eye, that look is gone in favor of a superhero-gone-sex-kitten look. Riding a flaring rocket that floats before a building window, Perry shoots into the city lights before doing her spokesperson drop: “We love to entertain you.” The commercial serves as a drastic change from the singer’s official video for “Teenage Dream,” which depicts her driving around the sunny hills of California and canoodling and dancing the day away in an empty parking lot. In one clip, she serves up as sing-along robot while the other portrays her “come venture with me” persona. Even though both clips remain vastly different from one another, the carefree atmosphere is still apparent. Whether they’re dancing around a beach half-naked or decked out in 1950s attire, Perry is surrounded by a party you could only wish to be part of. Katy Perry, Russell Brand Hookup Detailed On ‘VMA’s Revealed’

Stars’ relationship is broken down on MTV special premiering this Saturday at 11 a.m. By Mawuse Ziegbe Katy Perry and Russell Brand Photo: Jeff Vespa/ Getty Images Lots of craziness went down onstage at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards . Rappers like Lil Mama and Kanye West couldn’t resist bum-rushing the stage, Janet Jackson and Madonna contributed to an icon-heavy tribute to the late, great Michael Jackson, and when Lady Gaga wasn’t dashing in and out of elaborate getups, she was writhing onstage drizzled with blood. Unbeknownst to viewers, the backstage madness rivaled the antics that made the big show. Indeed, so much ridiculousness went down that MTV had to dish in “VMA’s Revealed,” an insider’s look at the 2009 festivities that premieres Saturday at 11 a.m. The show also turned out to be the backdrop for one of pop culture’s most high-profile pairings: Katy Perry and Russell Brand . The duo are engaged and are rumored to be hitting the altar later this year. As “Revealed” shows, hitting the VMAs last year became a fortuitous turn for both stars. Both Brand and Perry returned to the VMAs in ’09 after making an impression on viewers — and each other — the year before. They got each other’s attention in passing as rookies in 2008 — she was a first-time performer, he was making his hosting debut — but the next year they realized they had more in common than just sharing the marquee at the VMAs. “I really appreciate his sense of humor. It’s real dark, it’s real wrong and it’s really funny,” Perry says in the episode about her hubby-to-be. Brand, whose grand entrance at the 2009 event was heralded by Perry belting Queen’s “We Will Rock You” accompanied by Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry, admits that he has a way with words when it comes to his pop-star love. “It seems like I can say whatever I want and sort of get away with it,” Brand cheekily observes. To find out how Perry and Brand went from ripping the VMA stage to barreling down the road toward holy matrimony, catch “VMA’s Revealed” Saturday at 11 a.m. The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 12, at 9 p.m. ET. Ke$ha Does Her Own Stunts In VMA Promo

‘I thought I was gonna fall on my head, but I didn’t,’ the singer says. By Mawuse Ziegbe Ke$ha at the 2010 VMA promo shoot Photo: Kristian Dowling / PictureGroup Breakout poptress Ke$ha is up for three MTV Video Music Awards and is slated to present an award when the festivities kick off Sunday, September 12, at 9 p.m. The “Tik Tok” singer is sure to fit right in amid the typical VMA rowdiness, and even the promo for her appearance is chockfull of high-flying stunts and other craziness. “The concept … is I wake up, like a pimp, and I hear some noise, and there’s like a wind coming through my boudoir doors, and I run to see what it is, and I just get shoved out by this gust of wind that’s supposedly ‘fate,’ ” Ke$ha said, setting up the clip. “Then, I start falling and falling through … all of my experiences that got me to this point, which is attending the VMAs.” Creating the illusion of a free fall for the spot required Ke$ha to swing about on a harness, an experience that apparently looks way more fun than it feels. “I did do all my own stunts today, and my vag hurts,” Ke$ha griped. “It was kind of scary, because … I was flying around.” Being suspended may have been a bit harsh on her lady bits, but the singer said she’s no novice when it comes to hanging around for her videos. “I have used some harnesses before [on] my video for ‘Blah Blah Blah.’ … I’m into it.” Ke$ha may have some experience getting strapped into harnesses, but she also admitted that dangling from the contraption was the hardest part of filming. “I think the harness was scarier, only because it was immensely painful as well, and I couldn’t touch the ground,” she said. “I thought I was gonna fall on my head, but I didn’t.” Ultimately, the “Your Love Is My Drug” singer wasn’t sweating any of the potential risks of shooting the promo. “I was only, like, 12 feet high,” Ke$ha said. “Worst-case scenario: I just would have, like, broke an arm.” What are you expecting from Ke$ha’s appearance at the VMAs? Sound off in the comments below! The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on September 12 at 9 p.m. ET. Taylor Swift’s ‘Mine’ Video: The Other Teenage Dream

Taylor’s fantasy of marriage and family offers a very different vision from Katy Perry’s sexy romps. By James Montgomery Taylor Swift and Toby Hemingway in “Mine” Photo: Big Machine Records It’s interesting that the premiere of Taylor Swift’s “Mine” video comes less than three weeks after the grand unveiling of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” clip . For all their differences, they are essentially about the same thing: the fantasies of young, thoroughly modern women. Of course, those fantasies are about as different as the women presenting them. Perry’s “Teenage Dream” is very much about the immediacy of pleasure, of fun and sexy romps on the beach and uninhibited road-trip adventures. Swift’s version is quite the opposite: Hers is a dream buoyed by the satisfaction of the long-term, of a doting husband and towheaded children and white picket fences. They are two wildly dissimilar sides of the same coin: Perry wants to be free; Taylor wants a husband. And the one you tend to identify with probably says a lot about you. To be clear, these certainly aren’t the only two avenues available to women (not by a long shot), but if you want to get professorial about things, “Teenage Dream” and “Mine” offer up a rather interesting dissection of feminism in the 21st century. This is not to suggest that Perry or Swift are paragons of the movement, but they are two of the hugest pop(ish) stars on the planet, adored and idolized by millions. And certainly, a portion of those millions are young girls. So, really, there’s probably something at stake here. To that end, while I don’t want to wade too heavily into the field of gender politics (these are, after all, just a pair of pop videos), it’s interesting — if not sort of disappointing — that neither Perry nor Swift are seen running Fortune 500 companies or piloting Black Hawk helicopters in their videos. Those, it would seem, are Teenage Dreams of a different sort. Of course, neither option is necessarily bad. Perry is empowered because she is totally unchained, free to pursue whatever (or whomever) she desires. Swift goes the opposite route in the “Mine” video, investing fully in the idea of love and family and the future. There may be bumps along the way — as she sings, there are bills to pay and late-night shouting matches, and suddenly, the big house doesn’t seem all that attainable — but she’s committed. She’s in it for the long haul. It’s not a particularly sexy dream, but it’s certainly an admirable on, especially in these times. With “Mine,” Swift has basically set herself up as the anti-Perry. And in doing so, she’s created a rather interesting counter-proposal to KP’s teenage dreams. No one is saying either is wrong, it’s just interesting to see two of the biggest female stars with such wildly differing takes on feminism and the future. They are, in essence, presenting two possible paths. A girl’s gotta have options, after all. What did you think of Taylor’s new video? Share your review in the comments!
