Class Warfare: Hundreds Protest Outside Bankers’ Houses In DC

Huge angry mobs converged outside bank employees' houses on Sunday afternoon to demand banks stop lobbying against Wall Street reform. “Bank of America: bad for America!” shouted community leaders outside the house of Bank of America general counsel Gregory Baer. The Chicago-based grassroots organization National People's Action, in coordination with the SEIU, bused more than 700 workers from 20 states to Baer's neighborhood, one of the wealthiest corners of Washington. The action kicks off several days of protests targeting K Street for lobbyists' role in financial reform. Baer himself apparently tried to blend in with the crowd until a neighbor outed him. The mob booed loudly as he walked into his house. “I don't have time for you,” he said, according to Trenda Kennedy of Springfield, Ill. who used a bullhorn to tell the crowd about her trouble getting a mortgage modification from Baer's bank. Kennedy told HuffPost she'd been making reduced monthly payments thanks to a trial modification via the Home Affordable Modification Program. She said that when the bank turned her down for a permanent mod, she was told she still owed all the money she'd been paying during the trial. She said she's been notified of several sheriff's sale dates but has somehow managed to keep her home. “Every time I'm inches away from losing my house, by some miracle it's been pushed off,” said Kennedy, who is a member of Illinois People's Action. Passersby and dogwalkers smiled at the sight of people gathered all over Baer's lawn and blocking the road. Baer's neighbor from across the street won little sympathy when he angrily yelled at protesters for waking up his two-year-old daughter. Kennedy was one of several people used a bullhorn to tell their personal bank horror stories. Story continues below Baer, formerly a senior official at the Treasury department, is a lawyer for the bank's regulator and public policy legal group. Bank of America declined to comment. added by: Omnomynous

Bay City, Again, Requesting Madonna, To Give Her A Key To The City

The quest to reach out to Bay City’s most famous offspring has begun. Mayor Charles M. Brunner has drafted a letter inviting Madonna to come home to Bay City and finally accept a key to the city. City Commissioner Christopher J. Shannon, frontman for a local rock band, is planning a Madonna tribute album in which he hopes to recruit local musicians to cover hits such as “Like a Virgin,” “Express Yourself” and “Vogue.” Guy Greve, president of the Bay Arts Council, wants to go as far as commissioning an artist to sculpt a statue of Bay City’s Material Girl. “The local arts council would like to pay homage for her artistic contributions,” he said. “I could see a sculpture of her in Bay City. One of Madonna’s famous poses could be made into a sculpture.” Brunner said he has e-mailed a letter to Madonna’s father, Silvio “Tony” Ciccone, who owns a vineyard in Suttons Bay. “I sent it to the winery initially, because that was the only e-mail address I had,” Brunner said. “And I did get an e-mail back,” he said. “They gave me, I believe, his personal e-mail address, so I sent him an e-mail and a copy of the letter inviting her to Bay City – so hopefully maybe something happens through her father.” Brunner is hopeful his words will atone for the actions of past city officials who have rejected Madonna on multiple occasions – much to the dismay of Madonna’s family still living here, including her 96-year-old grandmother. Source: Ryan J. Stanton, The Bay City Times , Telegraph Madonna, who was born in Bay City in 1958 and spent a considerable portion of her childhood visiting family here, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this past month. That prompted city leaders to reconsider bestowing upon her the infamous key to the city that Mayor Timothy G. Sullivan refused to give her in 1985, when Madonna was considered, by some, too risque for such an honor. City officials in the late 1980s also refused to accept a professional sculpture of Madonna from an Italian artist, citing a belief that her popularity would fade out in time. Nearly three decades since her rise to fame, that notion has failed to come true – Madonna remains a worldwide cultural icon. Just this week, she knocked Elvis Presley from the history books, charting her 37th Top 10 hit with her new single “4 Minutes,” a duet with Justin Timberlake. Presley officially was nudged from his standing as the artist with the most Top 10 hits in rock history, according to Billboard.com. “Far and wide, she wields significant influence in the arts and entertainment world,” said Shannon, Bay City’s 1st Ward Commissioner. “For Bay City to turn its back on that, it would be a shame.” Perhaps best known locally for calling Bay City a “smelly little town” on national television two decades ago – a reference to a former oil refinery that once polluted the city – Madonna graces the cover of Vanity Fair this month, holding the world in her hands for the magazine’s third-annual “Green” issue – her 10th cover for the magazine. Local leaders say she’s a living example to anyone growing up in Bay City with dreams of making it big in the arts world. Since moving to New York City on a whim in 1978, Madonna has gone on to sell more than 200 million albums worldwide, as well as author children’s books and star in and direct films. Today, she lives with her husband, British film director Guy Ritchie, and three children in London. Brunner notes that he met Madonna’s father in January at the Great Lakes Environmental Film Festival. Tony Ciccone catered the wine for the inaugural event at the State Theatre in Bay City. Brunner, a former rock band drummer, is hoping he’ll make a lasting connection with Madonna and her family, though he was unsuccessful in reaching out to her longtime friend and publicist Lis Rosenberg, who did not return e-mails from Brunner or The Times. “I’ll do what I can,” Brunner said. “I’ve got a one-page letter. I hope she gets an opportunity to read it. We’ll just keep working on it.” Read a .pdf of Brunner’s letter to Madonna. Martin Ciccone, Madonna’s older brother in Beverly Hills, told The Times that Bay City should invite Madonna to town and give her the key for her 50th birthday on Aug. 16. “I’d say go for it,” he said. “I cannot tell you what she would do. I want to say, yeah.” Shannon said that would be great, but as a founding member of Bay City’s Hell’s Half Mile Film & Music Festival, he’s partial to having the singer slip into town, oh say, in mid-October. “We could even play one of her films,” he said Source ONTD

T.I. Tells Larry King ‘Depression And Paranoia’ Led To His Arrest

‘My judgment was jaded, and I felt my life was in danger,’ he says of his attempt to illegally purchase firearms. By Kara Warner T.I. on “Larry King Live” Photo: CNN Larry King is sometimes criticized for conducting softball or fluff interviews, but for Thursday night’s (May 13) sit-down with rapper T.I. — his first in-depth interview since leaving prison — King kept his questions hard-hitting and pointed. Clifford “T.I.” Harris was sentenced to one year and one day of prison last year following his arrest in October 2007 for attempting to illegally purchase firearms. The rapper was subsequently released to a halfway house in December to serve out the remainder of his sentence before his ultimate release at the end of March. King got right to the point and asked T.I. why he attempted the purchase of firearms in the first place. “It came from an attempt that was made on my life,” he said. “My best friend [ Philant Johnson ] had died in my arms. It caused a state of depression and paranoia. My judgment was jaded, and I felt my life was in danger. … At the time, when I felt the need to have these things, I never took into consideration the legalities; I only took into consideration the protection of my life and family.” King pressed Tip on whether he has truly put the “trouble” behind him. T.I. insisted that he is a “gangster no more,” he absolutely does not own a weapon and he is looking toward the future and to evolve. “In having time to sit and reflect, if you take the time and use it to your advantage, you see [that], even though all those rounds were fired that night, you didn’t have a firearm and you’re still here,” he said. “Obviously, the firearms aren’t what’s keeping you alive. I had to take that into consideration. I had to apply it to the way I live my daily life.” Throughout the interview, T.I. was calm and composed and answered all of King’s questions without pause — save for when the CNN vet asked if he had ever shot a gun at anyone. T.I. called out the Fifth Amendment before answering that he had shot a gun “at a range.” Regardless, anything having to do with drugs or guns was referred to as “my past.” T.I. seemed genuinely focused on his future, working with at-risk youth and mentioned his love for his six children and “special lady” Tameka. He also reiterated his personal responsibility in moving on from the events that led to his incarceration. “The main thing I can do to protect myself in the future is to understand my position,” he said. “I can’t put myself in an environment where it will require me to have a handgun. I just stay places where I can be cool. I have security now. … I take full responsibility for everything that happened to me. I’m a full believer that your life is what you make it. Society doesn’t owe you anything.” Did you watch T.I.’s appearance on “Larry King”? What did you think of his answers? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists T.I.

Joell Ortiz: Slaughterhouse Has Recorded With Eminem, Not Signed Yet

‘It’s going to happen,’ MC says of group signing with Shady Records. By Shaheem Reid Joell Ortiz Photo: MTV News Rap’s ferocious foursome Slaughterhouse are definitely down with Eminem and Shady Records — they just haven’t signed the paperwork to make it official. One member of the group, Joell Ortiz, said hammering out the recording contract is taking a lot longer than they thought. “We in the ninth inning of it, we just keep changing pitchers,” Ortiz said recently while visiting the MTV offices. “I don’t know, man — it’s a lot of hold-ups. I thought on my end I was straight, but I wasn’t. We’re going back and forth with the people I’m working with. Joe had some issues or whatever. The interest is still there. Everybody is excited about it, it’s just a lot of people involved in this. Four artists, four separate managers, label situations — a lot of black and white that gotta get settled for it to happen, but verbally, we’re on Shady! Eminem is excited, the whole group is excited. The world is excited. I can’t even do a show without somebody asking that. Without them being, ‘You ripped it, what’s up with Em?’ Everybody is waiting on this, so it’s going to happen. It’s going to happen.” Everyone has such faith in the deal that the collective have been in the lab with their future CEO. “We got in the studio with Em already,” Joell offered. “We traded bars and stuff with all of us.” Slaughterhouse are hoping to knock out recording a second album — a follow-up to last year’s self-titled debut LP — within the next few months, they just have to find time in between their touring and family time. “In the last 12 months, we’ve been on five tours,” Ortiz explained. “So we’ll be all good when we’re on the bus. ‘I’m gonna shoot you an idea. I’m gonna shoot you something.’ ” When the tours are done though, it’s a different tune. “Dudes just wanna hug their families,” the Brooklyn native smiled. “I just been locked in with my sons. Just, ‘I’m here. Let me get a order of chicken wings and fries. No more of this Foreman Grill we have on the bus.’ We been home doing the personal thing, then we look up and we’re gone again. But like I said, we just touched base earlier. We’re gonna have one of those conference calls with all the fellas and we’re gonna figure out how to destroy the net one more time and go in for the 2010 summer. The first album we did in six days. When people ask, ‘What’s up with the second album?’ I say, ‘It’s gonna be two times better; it’ll be done in 12 days.’ Look out, it’s gonna be right around the corner.” Ortiz is also focused on solo success . He has a single out right now, “Call Me,” that’s getting plenty of love on the radio, and his solo LP Free Agent is coming later this year. “The album is crack,” he promised. “It’s fire. Production from Emile, Nottz, DJ Khalil, Premier, Frequency. Appearances by the Lox, Novel, I believe we got Nore on one of the joints. First of all, if y’all don’t have The Brick: Bodega Chronicles, you have to listen to that to even understand who you’re listening to. Second of all, if you liked The Brick, this is The Brick on steroids. I can’t wait. You’ll get it soon — definitely this year. This is the start of something beautiful with me. This album is gonna open up crazy doors.” Ortiz will be dropping a mixtape with DJs Green Lantern and Don Cannon called Yaowa sometime in June. Chely Wright Comes Out

‘Nothing in my life has been more magical than the moment I decided to come out,’ country singer says, revealing her sexuality. By Josh Wigler Photo: Stephen Lovekin/ Getty Images Country music singer Richell Rene “Chely” Wright has come out. In an interview with People.com , the “Shut Up and Drive” singer revealed her sexual preference, saying that she had previously resisted the urge to publicly address her homosexuality because she didn’t want to be the first country star to do so. “There had never, ever been a country music artist who had acknowledged his or her homosexuality,” she told the magazine in an article published Monday (May 3). “I wasn’t going to be the first” — but she changed her mind. “Nothing in my life has been more magical than the moment I decided to come out,” she said. Wright, 39, said she’d kept her sexuality from the public in order to protect her career as a musician. “I don’t have a memory in my life that doesn’t include the dream of making music,” the singer explained. “I hid everything for my music.” Wright will release her memoir, “Like Me,” and her new album, Lifted Off the Ground, on Tuesday. Additionally, the singer will appear on the “Today” show on Wednesday to discuss her new endeavors and further elaborate on her personal journey. Wright’s first album, Woman in the Moon, debuted in 1994. She has won multiple awards, including several from the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association. Lifted Off the Ground is Wright’s first album of all-new material in five years.

Happy Birthday, Ashley Dupre!

The lovely Ashley Dupre turns 25 today. Happy birthday to our personal favorite former political sex scandal participant and current Playboy cover girl! She gets a bad rap, having been a high-priced hooker, but in Ash’s defense, she was just trying to make a living, and didn’t know who her clients were. Unlike Rielle Hunter , who knowingly broke John Edwards’ home, no matter what she claims. Ashley is also pretty hot, which Rielle cannot claim. Anyway. ‘I love her dearly,’ White says of her ‘Proposal’ co-star. By Jocelyn Vena Betty White Photo: Jamie McCarthy/ Getty Images With Sandra Bullock surprised that she could keep her adoption a secret since January and with fans coming to Bullock’s side now that she has announced her plans to divorce her soon-to-be ex-husband, Jesse James, her friends and co-stars are speaking out and showing their support for the Oscar-winner. On a press call for her “Saturday Night Live” appearance on May 8, Betty White commented on the People cover featuring her “The Proposal” co-star, telling reporters that while she cares for Bullock deeply, she hopes everyone will respect her enough to give her space. “I love her dearly and her personal life is her business,” White said. “Certainly not mine or anybody else’s.” In the interview with People , Bullock revealed that she was as surprised by the news of James’ affairs as everyone else and never suspected he was cheating on her. “I had no idea about anything until that day when I got the call. It seems like a thousand years ago when this happened. All I remember thinking, ‘I need to get Louis out of here before the vultures descend,’ ” she explained. “But never in a million years did I foresee something like this happening. I wish it hadn’t, and it still doesn’t seem real.” And while she’s still healing from the split, she said that her infant son, Louis, is her “little man” these days. “He is just perfect,” she said, adding, “The first time I met Louis it was like the whole outside world just got quiet. It just fit, and I never had another moment to worry again.” Related Photos The Evolution Of: Sandra Bullock
