A trip to the hospital turned into a nightmare for a Connecticut woman who was allegedly raped by a paramedic in the back of an ambulance. Mark Powell, 49, turned himself in this week and was charged with sexual assault and unlawful restraint, police said Friday. He worked for American Medical Response as a part-time paramedic since 2006, and full-time since September, according to the New Haven Register. The 22-year-old woman, who has not been identified, was strapped to a stretcher after suffering a head injury at a party on Christmas Day in Hamden. She woke up in the ambulance to find herself being sexually assaulted, police said. “Our society places the greatest level of trust and confidence in its public safety providers, and the circumstances in this case reflect a tremendous breach of that faith,” Hamden Police Chief Thomas J. Wydra told the Associated Press. A driver was also in the ambulance at the time of the alleged assault, cops said. In a statement, American Medical Response said Powell has been placed on unpaid administrative leave. Powell has also served as a volunteer firefighter in the area since 1982, according to the New Haven Register. This is just horrible. To the dance industry, peers and fans, “Within the last few years of my life I have encountered many difficulties, all while being unable to freely speak and share my side of the story. The truth of the matter is that when I was in my early twenties, over 17 years ago, I began seeing a young lady who I thought at the time was of age. She was an employee at (a well known Los Angeles) dance studio, where I was a dance instructor. My biggest regret and mistake was not making sure that she was over 18 when I began a physical relationship with her. This young lady’s mother was fully aware and knew that her daughter and I were seeing one another, and consented to the relationship, while leading me to believe that her daughter was older. Nevertheless, I apologize to her and her daughter for any harm I may have caused them. For a few years now, I’ve had to deal with the public humiliation and personal strife of being condemned by heinous and false accusations. The case is now over and I was eventually charged and convicted of one count of having sexual relations with a minor, and my punishment was to engage in counseling, which I have already began, and I may have to complete four months in a private jail facility. After my case was over, TMZ released an inaccurate story stating that there were six other ladies who had been assaulted by me which is completely false. Statements by my attorney and the prosecuting attorney from the District Attorney’s Office will confirm how false and misleading TMZ’s story was. I am disappointed and hurt that TMZ would report such a false story without first checking the facts, by contacting the District Attorney’s Office. Deputy District Attorney: Alison A.W. Meyers wrote a legal statement proving that I was cleared of TMZ’s accusations stating that other minors came forward as victims. “While the case was pending against Mr. Sparks, no other chargeable victims ever came forward to discuss with me any allegations of the defendant having (sexual encounters) with them when they were underage.” – DDA Alison A.W. This picture is such a bad look…SMH According to TMZ reports : A Joe Paterno approved instructional football video has gotten the death sentence from distributors over a segment involving Jerry Sandusky interacting with young boys … one of whom may have been among the alleged victims. The video — titled, “Joe Paterno: Linebackers” — was released in the late ’90s and features Sandusky running a hands on tackling drill with a group of young boys. A screen shot from the video appears above. According to the infamous grand jury report in the Sandusky case, the person identified as Victim #4 participated in “a video made about linebackers that featured Sandusky.” The name of the video is not mentioned in the testimony, but we can’t seem to find any other instructional video about linebackers that features Sandusky. Now, TMW Media Group has pulled the video off of its website — and a rep tells us the company will no longer offer the video for sale strictly because of Sandusky’s involvement. We don’t blame them! According to People.com reports : Jerry Sandusky, the former football coach at the center of the Penn State child sex abuse scandal, acknowledges that he touched children but denies he committed any crimes. “I have horsed around with kids,” Sandusky, 67, said in an interview that aired Monday on Rock Center with Brian Williams. “I have showered after workouts. I have hugged them and I have touched their legs without intent of sexual contact.” Asked by Bob Costas if he is guilty of the charges contained in a 40-count indictment, Sandusky says, “I am innocent of those charges.” “Are you a pedophile?” Costas asked. “No,” replied Sandusky, who went on to state: “I could say that I have done some of those things. I have horsed around with kids. I have showered after workouts. I have hugged them.” He also said, “I enjoy being around children. I enjoy their enthusiasm. I just have a good time with them.” Of the 2002 incident that was reputedly witnessed by assistant coach Mike McQueary, involving Sandusky and a boy in the locker room, Sandusky told Costas, “We were showering and horsing around and he actually turned all the showers on and was actually sliding across the floor and we were, as I recall, possibly like snapping a towel.” Sandusky’s attorney, Joseph Amendola, appeared on Tuesday’s Today show and admitted his client did not use common sense in showering with young boys. As Amendola told Costas, “I believe in Jerry’s innocence. Quite honestly, Bob, that’s why I’m involved in the case.” The New York Times now reports that as many as 10 more alleged victims of Sandusky are stepping forward, according to police close to the investigation. Amendola told Rock Center, “We expect we’re going to have a number of kids, now how many of those so-called eight kids we’re not sure, but we anticipate we’re going to have at least several of those kids come forward and say this never happened. This is me, this is the allegation, it never occurred. In fact, one of the toughest allegations … what McQueary said he saw, we have information that that child said that never happened.” What McQueary said he saw was Sandusky in the act of anal rape. We could see how a kid would deny that at some point or another out of shame, but what reason would McQueary have to make that up?
