Organizers of a DNA test claimed on Thursday to have proven that Michael Jackson is the biological father of the younger Howard, a singer born in 1981. Howard has long been rumored to be the child Jackson referenced in the 1982 hit single “Billie Jean” with the famous line: “The kid is not my son.” Mother Miki Howard, was repped by Jackson family patriarch Joe Jackson in the 1980s and appeared in the 1993 movie Poetic Justice with Janet Jackson. Brandon does not have a birth certificate, but the genetic mystery reached its bizarre apex on Thursday at a press conference in Beverly Hills. Organized by shipping heir Alki David and streamed live on his FilmOn (dot) com website, the alleged proof of the late King of Pop’s paternity was revealed. Brandon Howard wasn’t present for the hyped announcement but confirmed in a Facebook post that he gave a DNA sample for the test to be conducted. Dr. Joseph Goodman, a Beverly Hills dental surgeon, revealed the results, and claimed he obtained a sample of Michael Jackson’s DNA from a dental device. He purchased the device at auction, he said, and pulled a piece of paper from an envelope saying the test pegged a parental match at “99.9 percent.” “I think we have the proof,” Goodman declared … but is it, really? Brandon Howard DNA Test Reveal Despite Goodman’s claim, the paperwork did not include names of test subjects or the name of a lab, but he said such tests are typically done anonymously. Other information was redacted as a security safeguard, he said. “I’m sure that there will be doubters and there will be haters and there will be those who create, build a controversy, but it is what it is,” David said. Jackson estate lawyer Howard Weitzman didn’t agree. “It sounds like a fraud to me,” Weitzman said later. While the 2014 Academy Awards spent several minutes honoring movie heroes, one real-life hero didn’t get a chance to join them: 5-year-old “Batkid” Miles Scott. Scott, who is in remission from leukemia, made headlines last year when the city of San Francisco shut down to honor him and his ” Batkid ” costume. He been promised a spot in the Oscars show, only to be cut last-minute. Fortunately, he still got to meet a movie superhero in Spider-Man Andrew Garfield. So what went wrong? A spokesperson blamed scheduling conflicts: “Basically, because of the fluid nature of live TV production, ultimately the segment didn’t work.” Garfield, who was listed as one of the Oscars’ presenters, rehearsed with Scott the Saturday before the Academy Awards; he also did not appear Sunday. This prompted speculation that it was the actor who nixed the segment. Not the case. A rep from the Academy issued a statement defending Garfied: “Andrew Garfield understood that his segment had to be omitted, and he drove to Disneyland on Monday to spend time with 5-year-old Miles Scott (Batkid) and his family.” Thursday afternoon, Garfield’s publicist issued a statement as well: “In full collaboration with the Academy and the show writer, Andrew prepared a segment for the Oscars to honor Miles Scott as the true hero that he is.” “At (sic) some point overnight on Saturday/ Sunday morning, it was decided by those running the show that the segment didn’t work in the ceremony.” “They decided to pull it. Andrew and Miles were equally upset.” Batkid Makes Way Through San Francisco “The producers arranged for Miles and his family to visit Disneyland on Monday and Andrew drove down to visit them and to bring Miles a personal gift.” “Andrew did the right thing and anyone saying otherwise is flat out lying,” the statement said, reiterating that The Amazing Spider-Man star didn’t bail. Scott’s mother Natalie lamented the last-minute scratch: “I don’t know if they ran out of time, or if there was something they didn’t like … it got pulled so quickly that we didn’t have a lot of insight into what was going on.” It’s still unclear why the 2014 Academy Awards pulled it. In any case, the heroic Miles Scott finished his cancer treatments last summer, then got a special treat from the Make-A-Wish foundation in November. Guess the year of Pharrell continues… Pharrell To Perform At The Oscars Hopefully, homeboy leaves his ranger hat at home. According to Rolling Out: Score another one for Pharrell! Fresh off the heels of his big night at the Grammys and probably because of it, the esteemed musician/producer has just been added as a performer at the 86th annual Academy Awards. Of course, Williams will be performing his international hit song “Happy”, which is also up for the Best Original Song award. Pharrell is no stranger to cinema’s biggest night as he (along with legendary composer Hans Zimmer) scored the Oscars in 2012. This marks the first time in eight years that a hip-hop artist has been tapped to perform at the Academy Awards since Three Six Mafia performed “It’s Hard Out Here For A Pimp” at the 2006 awards. Three Six Mafia went on to win the Oscar for Best Original Song that night, so maybe this is a good sign for Pharrell. The 86th annual Academy Awards will take place on March 2nd.
