‘American Idol’ Elimination Episode Crushes TV Competition

‘Idol’ puts up biggest non-sports Thursday ratings numbers since 2007. By Gil Kaufman Steven Tyler holds up his swear sign on “American Idol” Photo: FOX Simon who? Perhaps putting to rest any fears that “American Idol” would nosedive without iconic judge Simon Cowell, Thursday night’s first elimination episode of season 10 put up some stellar numbers for the singing competition. On a night when most of the competition on rival networks consisted of reruns (including, count ’em, six episodes in a row of “The Office” on NBC!) after the vaults were emptied last month during sweeps, “Idol” raked in 25 million viewers to win the ratings crown. In fact, the impressive numbers for “Idol” gave Fox the most-watched non-sports Thursday night number of any network over the past four years. The two-hour extravaganza, which not only shaped the top 10 , but also featured six performances by singers vying to score three wild card spots — not to mention the debut of judge Jennifer Lopez’s “On the Floor” music video — was a 29 percent increase of last season’s first elimination night, according to Billboard With an 8.1 rating in the 18 to 49 demo, numbers were also up 13 percent over last Thursday’s “AI” episode. As you might expect, ratings climbed during the pivotal final half-hour of the broadcast, going from 25.96 million between 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. to 26.66 million for the final half-hour. The good ratings news bodes well for the start of live competition next week, when new judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez will have to finally show their stuff during two real-time broadcasts a week after charming viewers during the season’s pre-taped episodes. Kim Kardashian Releases ‘Turn It Up’ Video Teaser Photos

‘I’ll be sharing the other looks with you guys here on my blog,’ she told her fans. By Jocelyn Vena Kim Kardashian on the set of her video for “Turn It Up” Photo: Celebuzz/ Kim Kardashian On her blog, Kim Kardashian is teasing fans with a new look at her Hype Williams-directed music video for her single, “Turn It Up.” In a series of photos she posted on her blog , Kim shows the process it took for her to get the Bo Derek braids she’s rocking in the soon-to-be-released video. In a few photos, fans see the finished look: Kim rocking the braids, wearing white fur and gracing peachy lips. In another pair of photos, Kim sits in a hairdressing chair as a team works to give Kim those corn rows. Back in December, Kardashian tweeted a photo of herself in the braids, without indicating whether the look would appear in her video. “Hype Williams came up with this Bo Derek braids look for the music video and I loved it!” she wrote about the hairstyle on Tuesday. “It took about four hours to do, and believe it or not I fell asleep! I wish I could have worn it longer.” Kardashian said that she’s wearing more than just this one look in the clip and that as the video’s release approaches, she’ll have more and more to share with fans about it. “We tried out a number of different looks in the video, and I’ll be sharing the other looks with you guys here on my blog,” she said. “I’m excited (and a little nervous) for you all to hear the song and watch the video. I really hope you all like it!” On Monday, Kim posted an image of herself in the studio while she was recording the song, which premieres on “Kourtney and Kim Take New York” on Sunday. “I am so excited for you all to hear my song. It debuts this Sunday on [my show] and will be available on iTunes,” she explained. “I’m going to start sharing all my pics from the music video shoot.” Kardashian has always said the song is a one-off and that all proceeds from its sale will go to a good cause. “I’m proud of myself that I tried something. It’s all in fun,” she explained about the song, which was produced by The-Dream. “We just had a good time and the proceeds are going to a cancer organization [because we both] lost a parent to cancer. So it’s just fun.”

Marsha Ambrosius: Late Nights & Early Mornings Is About ‘The Grind’

‘Far Away’ singer tells MTV News she’s ‘ready to unleash’ the real Marsha on solo debut. By Rebecca Thomas Marsha Ambrosius Photo: MTV News Marsha Ambrosius is like that gifted actor who dutifully plays understudy to the stage vet, patiently waiting for her turn under the house lights. Now, after years of putting in work behind the scenes, she’s ready to hit her mark. Consider the Brit singer’s debut, Late Nights & Early Mornings, released on Tuesday (March 1), a curtain-raiser for what’s likely to be a long solo career. When Marsha stopped by MTV News’ Times Square offices last month, her jubilation about her first solo offering was infectious. “I’m ready to unleash all things Marsha Ambrosius. Many people have expected many things from me, and all I can tell you is, you can expect me to be on my album.” An industry warhorse who spent the early part of her career as half of the neo-soul twosome Floetry , Ambrosius has written hits and blessed features for everyone from Michael Jackson (the flutter-inducing “Butterflies”) to Wale (last year’s empathetic “Diary”). And while the honorary Philadelphia girl doesn’t take her musical successes for granted, evolving meant venturing out on her own, she explained. “I think I’ve done my fair share of features, done my fair share of writing and producing for many others. It was time for me to hone in on what I wanted to say and who I want to be as an artist.” She soon discovered there was little difference between her songwriter and songstress personas (“I don’t put on a superhero suit and become Marsha Ambrosius the artist. I’m me, 24/7”). Indeed, except for those pipes, she’s every bit the girl next door, making midnight CVS runs, savoring a classic Philly hoagie and still trying to work up to four stars on the Nintendo Wii’s “Michael Jackson the Experience” “Billie Jean” routine (we can vouch that it is killer ). So following a label relocation to J Records and assists from production powerhouse Just Blaze, and longtime collaborators Dre & Vidal, Ambrosius banged out the blistering Canei Finch buzz single “Hope She Cheats on You (With a Basketball Player).” She let that song ride out through last fall, following it up with “Far Away,” a Blaze-produced single whose anti-bullying message might have gotten lost in Marsha’s super-sultry vocals if not for its provocative video. ” ‘Far Away,’ it’s still making noise, so I guess when people hear the record they’ll kinda decide,” the newly svelte singer said of choosing her next single. Before she headed out, racing to catch her train (yes, you might find yourself commuting with the soul star), we had to ask: What about that album title? Because it sounds awfully sensual. “It goes with the lifestyle, it’s the grind. It’s late nights in the studio, it’s early mornings of having to get on the Acela and get up to New York and do interviews. … Late night, early mornings: it’s the life of an artist, but I think everyone can relate to that.” But then she conceded with a laugh, “The sensual aspect came into it when I wrote the record ‘Late Nights & Early Mornings.’ [I was thinking], ‘Ooh, it’s gonna be a late night, early morning when I get you home.’ ” Tune in to Marsha’s live online performance on Tuesday, from 10 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. ET; visit her site for more info. What Were You Thinking??? Michael Vick Cancels On Oprah

In her quest to close out Season 25 with a bang, Oprah offered Mike Vick the opportunity to solidify his comeback in America’s hearts and minds. And this fool is reneging on his acceptance of the invitation. Of all the moves Michael Vick has made, this is one of the more curious ones. He has bailed on Oprah. The Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback — the NFL’s comeback player of the year — canceled the taping of an interview (subject matter: doing time for his part in an illegal dogfighting ring, his return to the NFL, his work with the Humane Society and his future) — with the queen of gab. “After careful consideration, I will need to postpone the taping of the Oprah Winfrey interview. I admire and respect Oprah and hope to be able to participate in an interview in the future.” There’s a report out of Philly that quotes sources saying the Eagles pressured Vick to cancel. Maybe he decided it was a bad idea to do the interview so close to the Westminster dog show. Maybe it’s connected to getting the Eagles’ franchise tag. In any event, given that her show is going off the air, a rebooking might not be likely. Joe Flint of the Los Angeles Times thinks Vick is making the right move in keeping a low profile. “Going on ‘Oprah Winfrey,’ though, to be given some sort of blessing by the queen of talk is too much too soon,” Flint writes. “Part of what Vick needs to learn and show is humility, and going on a popular TV show to say look at me now is not humble.” We don’t know about that one. Crying on Oprah is NEVER a bad look for a celebrity. Source

Rihanna recently premiered the bondage-themed clip for her latest single, “S&M,” which spurred a lawsuit from fashion photographer David LaChapelle , who claimed that it was “directly derived” from his work.
