Dylan Farrow vs. Woody Allen: Who Do You Believe?

For a scandal in which there are no legal consequences, now or ever, the Dylan Farrow-Woody Allen saga is dominating headlines this month. Farrow, 28, was jointly adopted by Allen, 78, and former partner Mia Farrow, 69. She says Allen molested her in the early ’90s, when she was 7. Allen denied the allegations then, but they resurfaced this winter after Farrow penned open letter to the N.Y. Times recounting her father’s molestation of her . The famed director has reiterated his denials, blaming Mia for coaching Dylan , making up untrue stories and fostering a lingering resentment of him. Dylan immediately countered that Woody Allen is a child molester and he can say whatever he wants, but the truth is on her side and she won’t be silenced. Which seems to be her endgame. Allen wasn’t prosecuted in 1992, though Farrow claims there was probable cause, and he will not be in 2014. The widespread acclaim of Blue Jasmine and his iconic career in general seems to be the impetus for Dylan, who feels her story mustn’t be forgotten. Who to believe? We’ll likely never know for sure, as both sides are adamant and unyielding in their positions in this decades-long blame game. Kim Kardashian Defends Charitable Giving, Slams Critics

Kim Kardashian is going on the offensive. The reality star understands she may get criticized from time to time, and she tries hard to ignore most of the haters. But she went off on a Twitter user who criticized her parenting last week – and now she’s done the same to all critics who called Kim out for her recent eBay auction that benefited typhoon disaster relief in the Philippines. As a quick refresher: Kardashian auctioned off a few items from her closet in late November, saying on her blog that the money raised would go to those affected by this horrific storm. However, many noticed the fine print read that only 10% of the proceeds would actually go to charity… and blasted Kim for the self-centered, misleading online event. “My dad always taught me the importance of giving back,” Kardashian writes in a new blog post. “I don’t publicize everything I do to help charities and people all over the world. I do it because I want to. I do it because my dad taught me to. I do it because it’s the right thing to do. “So for people to attack me for giving 10% of my eBay auction sales to the people of the Philippines, that hurts.” Kim Kardashian Auctioning Off Clothes For Charity She was far from finished, too, explaining how the auctions work and that fees (for eBay itself, for PayPal, etc.) add up to the point where she’s not really profiting from these endeavors and adding: “I do eBay auctions monthly and change the charity or church from time to time. I give 10% of all my earnings to charities, not just these eBay auctions. This month it’s for the people of the Philippines, last month was Life Change Community Church… “The people of the Philippines need all of our help, no matter how big or small. “Over the last 5+ years, I have listed thousands of items on eBay Giving Works for various causes. I will continue to do what is in my heart and am happy to know many others have enjoyed purchasing from me, as they too are giving with me. “Giving comes from the heart. We all need to be reminded of this as we celebrate the holiday season this year.” What do you think of Kim’s explanation? Of the criticism that came her way? Was it over the top? Deserved? Does she simply suck all the time and can never win? Or might Kim Kardashian really mean well sometimes?

What Would I Say: Facebook App Generates Status Updates So You Don’t Have To!

A new Facebook app called What Would I Say answers exactly that question, generating Facebook updates automatically so you don’t have to! It works by accessing every post a user has come up with, mixing them up and regurgitating bits of them in an order that (kind of) makes sense. Added bonus? It sounds just like you , or how you come across to other Facebook users, according to the developers that built What Would I Say. “Technically speaking,” its creators say, “it trains a Markov Bot based on mixture model of bigram and unigram probabilities derived from your past post history.” There you go. As for security risks, they also reassured users that info is not stores, and all computations are done client side, so only your browser ever sees your history. The impetus for WWIS? “We drank a lot of coffee and Red Bull and thought of fun things to program that we could actually complete in a day and a half.” And with that, genius was created. Your infinite wisdom and/or epic Facebook fails can now be posted for you if you’re too tired to put in the effort. The team behind “What would I say?” didn’t push forward with the idea to make money, but rather just to have a good laugh. Mission accomplished. While the home page is mainly a place where people can be amused by their own musings, underneath it includes a hyperlinked sentence saying: “Please consider donating to typhoon relief in the Philippines.”

Elsewhere In The World: More Than 1,000 Bodies Spotted Floating In Tacloban As Killer Typhoon Strikes The Phillippines [Video]

Our thoughts and prayers are with the people in the Phillippines , Vietnam and South China after this devastation . According to NY Post reports : One of the strongest typhoons ever to make landfall devastated the central Philippines, killing more than 1,000 people in one city alone and 200 in another province, the Red Cross estimated on Saturday, as reports of high casualties began to emerge. A day after Typhoon Haiyan churned through the Philippine archipelago in a straight line from east to west, rescue teams struggled to reach far-flung regions, hampered by washed out roads, many choked with debris and fallen trees. The death toll is expected to rise sharply from the fast-moving storm, whose circumference eclipsed the whole country and which late on Saturday was heading for Vietnam. Among the hardest hit was coastal Tacloban in central Leyte province, where preliminary estimates suggest more than 1,000 people were killed, said Gwendolyn Pang, secretary general of the Philippine Red Cross, as water surges rushed through the city. “An estimated more than 1,000 bodies were seen floating in Tacloban as reported by our Red Cross teams,” she told Reuters. “In Samar, about 200 deaths. Validation is ongoing.” She expected a more exact number to emerge after a more precise counting of bodies on the ground in those regions. Witnesses said bodies covered in plastic were lying on the streets. Television footage shows cars piled atop each other. “The last time I saw something of this scale was in the aftermath of the Indian Ocean Tsunami,” said Sebastian Rhodes Stampa, head of the U.N. Disaster Assessment Coordination Team sent to Tacloban, referring to the 2004 earthquake and tsunami. “This is destruction on a massive scale. There are cars thrown like tumbleweed and the streets are strewn with debris.” The category 5 “super typhoon” weakened to a category 4 on Saturday, though forecasters said it could strengthen again over the South China Sea en route to Vietnam. Authorities in 15 provinces in Vietnam have started to call back boats and prepare for possible landslides. Nearly 300,000 people were moved to safer areas in two provinces alone – Da Nang and Quang Nam – according to the government’s website. We’ll continue to pray for those whose lives have been affected by this terrible storm. Instagram/@macmaloon/@funkmastalexx

Typhoon Haiyan Slams Central Philippines, Four Reported Dead

The most powerful typhoon of 2013 made landfall early today in central Philippines, resulting in a myriad of landslides, knocking out power and, as of this writing, killing at least four people. Typhoon Haiyan started east in Samar and made its way west toward Panay around 4 a.m. EST. Super Typhoon Blasts the Philippines Over 720,000 people have evacuated their homes in the wake of 125 mile-per-hour winds, with updates coming slowly due to a lack of power in the area. But we know that at least one individual died via fallen tree, one was struck by lightning and two have been electrocuted as a result of the storm. Southern Leyte Gov. Roger Mercado told reporters that the storm triggered landslides which have blocked roads, uprooted trees and torn roofs off homes in the region. “When you’re faced with such a scenario, you can only pray, and pray and pray,” Mercado told The Associated Press by telephone amid the crisis. “My worst fear is there will be massive loss of lives and property.” A typhoon of similar strength hit the Philippines in 1990 and killed 508 people overall. But authorities hope that early warnings and evacuations will result in far fewer casualties this time around. We hope the same and we send our thoughts to everyone affected by the storm.
