It’s been a back and forth few weeks for Phillip Phillips since being named American Ido l champion, but we can now confirm the singer has, indeed, undergone a six-and-a-hour surgery to remove especially large kidney stones that were too large to pass. He’s recovering and is on track to take part in every tour stop this summer. “Surgery went well,” his rep told multiple media outlets this morning “He’s resting and will be ready for the idol tour kickoff in July!” Phillips fought through eight procedures throughout his Idol run, which ended in May with a victory over Jessica Sanchez . “[America’s] just seen a glimpse of what Phillip can do,” his father told People . “We can’t wait to get him well and 100 percent and really see how he can perform.”
We’re sorry to say it, ladies, but: Phillip Phillips has a girlfriend. And he’s head over heels for the unnamed brunette. “She is so excited for me,” the 21-year old told reporters in a conference call yesterday. “She supported me throughout all of this, and I love her to death.” Phillip added that his gal pal has helped him immensely through his kidney ailment – it came out this week that Phillips underwent EIGHT surgeries during season 11 and is due for one in the near future – and if female voters out there have a problem with his heart being taken, well… … too bad! “If a girl [voted] for me because I’m cute, and then gets mad that I have a girlfriend, then she doesn’t really like the music,” he said. “I’m not some cute guy who is trying to be successful off that. Upon winning American Idol last night, Phillip Phillips dissolved into tears and hugged his parents. It was a beautiful, pure moment of happiness. About a half hour prior to American Idol announcing its season 11 champion tonight, Young and Diana DeGarmo – who met during a production of Hair – were called on to the stage by Ryan Seacrest. Ace Young and Diana DeGarmo Get Engaged on American Idol Finale Young then got down on one knee, and in a proposal/product placement for Dave Webb Jewelry, said to his live-in girlfriend: “I want to make this last forever, and I will do anything in my power to have the most amazing life together, if you will have me.” Through tears, DeGarmo accepted! “I’m so speechless right now,” she said after Young put the engagement ring on her finger. “My makeup’s running!” Diane finished second on the third season of Idol in 2004, while Young placed seventh on season five. Congrats to the happy couple!
Following a record 132 million votes, performances from Neil Diamond, Rihanna and Aerosmith and a proposal , American Idol crowned a season 11 champion tonight. Was it ballad singer extraordinaire Jessica Sanchez? Or Dave Matthews prototype Phillip Phillips? Unlike Ryan Seacrest, we won’t keep you in suspense for very long. The winner is… American Idol Winner: Announced! PHILLIP PHILLIPS! Not exactly a shocker, huh? The guitar-playing crooner was considered a favorite from his very first audition, considering his similar qualities to every other American Idol champion of the past five seasons. Jessica appeared genuinely happy for Phillip upon hearing the announcement, as Ryan handed Phillip his guitar, Phillips took the crowd ” Home ” and eventually dissolved into tears, heading into the crowd to hug his parents.
