50 Cent, Floyd Mayweather Talk Eminem, Weight Loss

‘I was pissy,’ rapper says, describing being on a liquid diet to lose weight for role in ‘Things Fall Apart.’ By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Tim Kash 50 Cent and Floyd Mayweather Photo: MTV News During the run of his Invitation Tour, 50 Cent has been bringing out guests from E-40 to Carmelo Anthony. One guy who almost became a surprise for the fans was his good friend Eminem. Slim Shady, however, had to spend time with his family. “He wanted to come to my performance in Detroit. He was on baby watch,” 50 said last weekend in Los Angeles, when he was backstage at the House of Blues with another one of his onstage guests, boxer Floyd “Money” Mayweather. “He was like, ‘Yo, I wanna come out there, but I gotta stay. Hailie and them looking at me now.’ He had to get off the phone, they was like, ‘We have to go.’ We talked for a little bit — he was trying to figure when he could expect [my] next record. He was like, ‘Do like I make my records, like Dre makes his records. [Put it out] when you feel happy with it 100 percent.’ Like Floyd said, having the financial security we have, we don’t have to just jump out there at any point.” “You could take your time,” Mayweather added. “You could take your time and make the record special.” 50’s Black Magic LP is still a ways off, but the rap giant has been filming a slew of movies in the past year, including the drama “Things Fall Apart.” He plays a football star stricken with cancer. 50 lost 54 pounds in less than three months for the role. “I’m glad you got your weight back,” Mayweather said to Fif. “I was getting worried. Everybody was telling me [about the picture posted on his website]. I’m not an Internet freak.” “I went from 214 to 160,” The G-Unit General said. “I was on a liquid diet for nine weeks. “I was in Baku, [Azerbaijan,] and I ran from the airport to the hotel,” he added, referring to one instance in his training. “I was doing a lot of treadmill running, but it’s mental. When you get on the street, you could run. On the treadmill, you start thinking about the time. If you got the same music playing it gets difficult after a while. You gotta have something to distract you.” “When you running on the street, you in control. When you’re on a treadmill, you’re not in control,” Money May added. “I didn’t see this [picture] yet, I gotta go check it out.” Fif says not having anything to eat made him angry. “I was real hungry,” he explained. “I was pissy. Any little thing, it was like, ‘Get the f— from around me.’ ” Related Photos The Evolution Of: 50 Cent Related Artists 50 Cent Eminem Floyd Mayweather

Lil Wayne Records Verse For Drake’s ‘Light Up’ From Prison

‘Recording over the phone, I hope the call don’t drop,’ Wayne raps in remix. By Jayson Rodriguez Lil Wayne Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images Lil Wayne has blogged from the bing and hosted a mixtape from prison , and now the Cash Money Records superstar has kicked a rhyme from behind bars. Weezy recorded a verse for Drake’s “Light Up” featuring Jay-Z ; the original track is set to appear on the Toronto MC’s forthcoming debut, Thank Me Later, slated for a June 15 release. Drizzy premiered the number Tuesday night during a Ustream session with Jas Prince, the son of legendary Rap-A-Lot Record founder J. Prince. “I’m feeling like Elvis, ‘Jailhouse Rock,’ ” Wayne raps via telephone. “I’m not 2Pac, I’m the new ‘Pac/ Behind bars, but the bars don’t stop/ Recording over the phone, I hope the call don’t drop/ Drizzy got the ball, I know the ball won’t drop/ And I pray none of my kids ever wanna be Pop.” Drake first hinted at the “Light Up” remix during his listening session in New York last week. The Young Money recording artist visited his mentor prior to the session and later told MTV 2 “Sucker Free” host DJ Envy that he and Wayne would release a joint project . The album version features only Drake and Jay-Z as the two rappers trade rhymes about their experience in the rap game. Drake told MTV News in March that the track is similar to the advice and conversations he has with the Brooklyn wordsmith. “It’s just me and Jay both rapping on it for an extended period of time,” Drake explained “It’s real rap. I do sing on it, but it’s just on the hook. It’s great. The perspective, the dynamic on the track — it’s me and Jay’s relationship on the song, basically. When you hear it, people will be like, ‘Oh man.’ That’s how we are — just the two. He definitely has guided me a lot, as far as his words and his advice. We have a real funny rapport. I always enjoy my conversations with Jay.” What do you think about Lil Wayne’s “Light Up” verse? Let us know in the comments! Related Videos Lil Wayne Goes To Jail Related Artists Lil Wayne Drake

Katy Perry Says She Wasn’t Allowed To Watch ‘The Smurfs’ Growing Up

Now she’s playing Smurfette in the film version! ‘My mom thought Smurfette was a little bit slutty,’ she tells MTV News. By James Montgomery Katy Perry Photo: Steve Granitz/ Getty Images Ever since she started promoting her new single “California Gurls,” Katy Perry has been sporting one rather eye-catching accessory (and no, we’re not talking about her bedazzled bikini top ): an electric-blue wig. At first glance, you probably figured she was wearing it to match the DayGlo feel of the tune, but Perry first put on the wig to get in touch with her inner Smurfette — since she’s voicing the character in the upcoming film version of “The Smurfs.” In the time since, she’s also used it for another purpose: a little bit of childhood rebellion. “I’ve never seen an episode [of ‘The Smurfs’], because my parents wouldn’t let me,” Perry told MTV News on the red carpet for the 2010 MTV Movie Awards in Los Angeles, hours before she debuted “Gurls” for a live TV audience . “My mom thought that Smurfette was a little bit slutty, being the only female in the village. And now I showed her. I called her up and was like, ‘Guess what, Mom: I’m Smurfette!’ ” It’s certainly not the first time Perry has rebelled from her religious upbringing — both her parents were pastors — considering the sneak peek of her “California Gurls” video , which features Perry parading around in a bra made of cupcakes and launching frosting from her chest. You get the feeling her mom is pretty used to the phone calls these days. “It’s just like another one of those days where it’s like, ‘Guess what, Mom: I kissed a girl! Guess what, Mom: I’m going to be naked in a music video!’ ” Perry laughed. Male battering is perceived as a mental health issue, not a crime

For the most part, the media, authorities and average citizens see domestic violence as a crime that is committed by men and victimizes women. Consequently, funding to combat the problem has overwhelmingly been spent on programs that support women. Widely Ignored Problem And yet, more than 200 survey-based studies show that domestic violence is just as likely to strike men as women. In fact, the overwhelming mass of evidence indicates that half of all domestic violence cases involve an exchange of blows and the remaining 50% is evenly split between men and women who are brutalized by their partners. Part of the reason that this problem is widely ignored lies in the notion that battered males are weak or unmanly. A good example of this is the Barry Williams case: Recently, the former Brady Bunch star sought a restraining order against his live-in girlfriend, who had hit him, stolen $29,000 from his bank account, attempted to kick and stab him and had repeatedly threatened his life. Lack of Research Sometimes it is impossible to ignore the problem, but when domestic violence against men turns deadly — as in the case of actor Phil Hartman — the focus tends to shift to mental illness. The same can be said of the Andrea Yates case, which many pundits presented as the story of how an insensitive husband can drive a wife to murder. Much of the information on domestic violence against men is anecdotal, largely because of the lack of funding to study the problem. Although several organizations explore domestic violence, the biggest single resource is the Department of Justice, which administers grants through its Office on Violence Against Women. For years, the DOJ has explicitly refused to fund studies that investigate domestic violence against men. According to specialists in this field, the DOJ recently agreed to cover this problem — as long as researchers give equal time to addressing violence against women. First National Study Researchers Denise Hines and Emily Douglas recently completed the first national study to scientifically measure the mental and social impact of domestic violence on male victims. Interestingly, their research was funded by the National Institutes of Mental Health, not the DOJ. Not only does this demonstrate the lack of resources for researchers of this issue, but it also suggests that male battering is perceived as a mental health issue, not a crime. This decriminalization of domestic violence against men affects research conclusions. While survey-based studies have found that men and women commit domestic violence in equal numbers, crime-based studies show that women are far more likely to be victimized. This inconsistency begins to make sense when one considers that man-on-woman violence tends to be seen through a criminal lens, while woman-on-man violence is viewed more benignly. A recent 32-nation study revealed that more than 51% of men and 52% of women felt that there were times when it was appropriate for a wife to slap her husband. By comparison, only 26% of men and 21% of women felt that there were times when it was appropriate for a husband to slap his wife. Murray Straus, creator of the Conflict Tactics Scale and one of the authors of the study, explained this discrepancy: “We don't perceive men as victims. We see women as being more vulnerable than men.” Kneed In The Groin This trend becomes particularly striking when one considers the 1996 case of Minnesota Vikings quarterback Warren Moon, who tried to restrain his wife after she threw a candlestick at his head and kneed him in the groin. Subsequently charged with spousal abuse, he was only acquitted after his wife admitted that she attacked him — and that her wounds were self-inflicted. Ironically, her admission of fault did not result in charges being brought against her. While Moon's trial was particularly high profile, his situation is actually very common. In fact, studies have found that a man who calls the police to report domestic violence is three times more likely to be arrested than the woman who is abusing him. The mainstream perception of domestic violence also impacts the resources that are available to battered men. For example, the Domestic Abuse Helpline for Men and Women, the only national toll-free hot line that specializes in helping male victims of domestic violence, has faced numerous roadblocks in its search for funding. In Maine, where the helpline is based, the surest route to funding is through membership in the Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence. On A Shoestring But, according to Helpline director Jan Brown, the Coalition refused to even issue the program an application for membership, effectively denying it access to funding. Today, 45 Helpline volunteers field 550 calls per month, 80% of which are from men or people who are looking for help on behalf of a man. Operating with a yearly budget of less than $15,000, it provides intensive training to its workers and offers victims housing, food, bus tickets and a host of other services. The Helpline's sheltering services are informal and ad hoc, largely because its lack of access to funding makes a shelter financially impossible. In fact, of the estimated 1,200 to 1,800 shelters in the U.S., only one — the Valley Oasis shelter in Antelope Valley, Calif. — provides a full range of shelter services to men. And, on average, less than 10% of OVW funds allocated to fight domestic violence are used to help men. For male victims of domestic violence, the legal system can become another tool for abuse. As in the Moon case, battered men are often likely to find themselves arrested, even when they are the ones who call the police. And, even after the arrest, the process of incarceration, restraining orders, divorce court and child custody hearings continue to disadvantage men. A High Cost Restraining orders are a particularly difficult hurdle. Radar Services, a watchdog organization, estimates that approximately 85% of the roughly 2 million temporary restraining orders that are issued every year are made against men. In many states, the requirements for an order are exceedingly vague: In Oregon, for example, a “fear” of violence is sufficient for a restraining order, while Michigan issues them to protect family members against “fear of mental harm.” But there's nothing vague about the effect of restraining orders: They often turn men out of their homes, deny them access to children and result in further personal costs as millions of men have to find new places to live, hire lawyers and pay other expenses. For some men, as Hines and Brown point out, the legal system gives abusive wives and girlfriends tools to continue attacks even after their relationships end. As Straus notes, “The preponderance of [domestic violence] resources should be made available to women. They are injured more often, are more economically vulnerable, and are often responsible for the couple's children. That having been said, more resources need to be made available to men.” There is no doubt that domestic violence against men can be reduced; the domestic violence initiatives of the past 40 years have brought a hidden crime to light and provided protection for millions of women. The next step is to admit that domestic violence is not a male or female problem, but rather a human problem, and that a lasting solution must address the cruelty — and suffering — of both sexes. http://www.dailyfinance.com/story/a-hidden-crime-domestic-violence-against-men-i… added by: MotherForTruth

‘Jaws’ Shark Hunted Down

The star of “Jaws” has been found resting in a Los Angeles junkyard. No, not Richard Dreyfuss — the shark! With the 35th anniversary of Steven Spielberg's classic blockbuster just around the corner, an NPR reporter set out to track down the mechanical beast that struck fear into the hearts of so many. In order to maximize their control over the creature, the “Jaws” filmmakers built three sharks for their 1975 movie. All created from the same mold, the sharks were dubbed “Bruce” after Spielberg's lawyer, Bruce Ramer. The gigantic metal creatures were 25-feet long and weighed hundreds of pounds. The heads alone came in at 400 lbs. apiece, with jaws the size of a small human. When reporter and “Jaws”-enthusiast Cory Turner set out to track down Bruce's whereabouts, he went straight to the source — the movie's director. A spokesman for Steven Spielberg explained that the original Bruces had all been destroyed, as no one had thought to save them. But theories circulated on a Facebook page for the famous shark that another Bruce might be out there. After a little research, Turner discovered that a fourth shark had indeed been cast from the original mold, just months after its brothers were constructed. The baby of the Bruce family was created for display at Universal Studios Theme Park, where it hung by its tail for fifteen years. In 1990, the shark was taken down and shipped out to destinations unknown. Turner picked up the phone and started dialing junkyards. He finally found the creature in a yard in the Sun Valley area of Southern California — just minutes away from Universal. Turner brought the team who built Bruce — art department members Joe Alves and Roy Arbogast to verify the shark's authenticity. “It's the real one,” Arbogast told Turner after examining the creature. “It's just kinda' nice to see it again after 25 or 30 years. It's amazing that it's still here.” Bruce's discovery couldn't come at a better time. There's talk that Universal might be considering a 3D “Jaws” remake — with comedian Tracy Morgan in the shark-hunter role. Perhaps Bruce will find his way onto the silver screen once again. added by: danteglam

Shannon Price: Secretly Divorced From Gary Coleman, Still in Control of Actor’s Medical Decisions

Was Shannon Price in the right by taking Gary Coleman off life support? After the Gary Coleman 911 call was released yesterday, that question is being hotly debated, given her strange comments and behavior on the phone. She’s likely to come under even more scrutiny now that documents have surfaced proving that Coleman and Price secretly got divorced back in 2008. They wed in 2007 but split, legally, a year later due to “irreconcilable differences.” A judge signed off on the divorce, and they did not get re-married. Yet they were in bed together the night of Gary’s ultimately fatal injury. Shannon Price and (apparently) her ex-husband Gary Coleman . Price was the one who called 911, as we know, one week ago now, reporting that Coleman had fallen down in their Utah home and was unconscious. According to the Santaquin Police Department, The Diff’rent Strokes star was bleeding from a laceration on his head when the paramedics arrived. He was able to answer their questions and was also able to walk to the ambulance that transported him to the hospital, the incident report states. Price stayed upstairs once paramedics arrived, telling them she “didn’t want to be traumatized.” Officers stated they observed “nothing suspicious.” Coleman, who had been in a weakened state when he fell after undergoing a four-hour kidney dialysis treatment, later suffered a brain hemorrhage . He slipped into a coma was taken off life support on Friday by Shannon Price, who identified herself as Coleman’s wife, despite the fact that she isn’t. Prince wasn’t asked to provide documented proof, prompting Coleman’s divorce lawyer, Randy Kester, to question if Shannon had power of attorney. Apparently, she did, despite the couple’s non-marital status . Shannon Price was no longer Gary Coleman’s wife, but the actor trusted her with his life anyway. The legal documents that are in place establish this. He signed the paperwork authorizing her to make medical decisions for him if he was incapacitated and unable to do so, as Price tragically had to. So even though she technically told an untruth by telling hospital workers she was Gary Coleman’s wife, she didn’t cross more questionable lines. “Mr. Coleman had completed an Advanced Health Care Directive granting Shannon Price permission to make medical decisions on his behalf if he was unable to do so,” reads a statement released by Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. “An Advanced Health Care Directive remains in effect regardless of a patient’s marital status, unless modified by the patient. It is a private medical document which the hospital does not have permission to release.” “However, we received permission to confirm that the document was in effect at the time of Mr. Coleman’s death.” No other info is available due to privacy statutes, and it is not known when Coleman signed the form. However, Price looks to be legally in the clear. If any more details on Coleman’s sad and increasingly strange death become available, you will know as soon as we do. Stay tuned.
