Gray Powell And The Lost iPhone 4G

Gizmodo made headlines yesterday with the leak of the infamous iPhone 4G, but how did they get their hands on it? “Guy walks into a bar, guy has a few beers. Toward the end of the night, guy walks out of the bar forgetting his phone. Not too uncommon of a story. But if your name is Gray Powell , and it was the iPhone 4G that you left behind, it might be the worst story you’ll ever have to tell.” Read the full story here . View

Microsoft Kin: What for?

Okay I have to admit, I’m still stuck with a cheap phone that doesn’t do wifi, has a 2-inch screen and it reminds you of something that was launched year 2000. In my search for a new phone I guess the Microsoft Kin comes in to my mind. But what is the Microsoft Kin? How much is it? The Microsoft kin is actually two phones, Kin One and Two, which target a specific market of highly social people. They are supposed to be the ones that are for updating Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. With their QWERTY keyboard they can easily fulfill the needs of those who are still skeptical about the whole touch screen phones and those who still prefer the tactile touch. So along with the need to satisfy a social user, the Kin phones will need to have applications and so there comes along with it, an App store. I do hope that most of the applications will come in free. One thing that’s peculiar though is that Microsoft seemed to have kept the Windows 7 mobile OS and not added it in this phone. I think they have something bigger for later’s show. The interesting thing about this Kin phones is not actually the phone itself but rather the Kin Studio where all your media stuff get uploaded. Yep, Kin Studio makes it possible to have your pictures uploaded instantly and wirelessly to your kin studio. (don’t we just love instant?) So long as I don’t know how much these two Kins are gonna cost and how effective their features are, I’ll just wait till it actually settles in the market. Till then, we’ll see. Armin Van Buuren Has ‘Too Many Tracks’ For Next Album

‘I just hate the fact that you can only put about 78 minutes on a CD,’ he says. By Akshay Bhansali Armin Van Buuren Photo: MTV News Few artists have been able to achieve the level of consistency that Dutch trance icon Armin van Buuren has been able to maintain in his career. Tens of thousands of fans frequently gather to see him spin, and when it comes to tastemakers the proof is in his accolades. For the past three years he has held the top spot on DJ Mag ‘s Top 100 DJ list, one of the top honors in the electronic-music industry. And at the recent Ultra Music Festival in Miami, MTV News witnessed him holding court, spinning records from his recently released A State of Trance 2010 compilation album for close to 100,000 of his fans. For one of the highest-grossing earners in the electronic-music game, it’s endearing to hear that for the DJ/ producer/ record-label owner, his weekly radio show, which he began just under a decade ago and now boasts millions of listeners in 40 countries, remains his most important endeavor. “One of the reasons I’m sitting here is because of my radio show, ‘A State Of Trance,’ ” he said. “I started it in June 2001, I remember at the time a lot of my colleagues said, ‘You’re crazy to do a two-hour radio show every week.’ But I think that’s the reason I became successful. Thanks to the Internet and thanks to the illegal downloads, my name became known all over the world.” Van Buuren recently broadcasted episode 450 of “ASOT,” and over the years the show has become the perfect litmus test for his self-produced studio material. He’s also completed four commercially successful albums, and songs like “Who Is Watching” (featuring Nadia Ali), “Going Wrong” (with DJ Shah Featuring Chris Jones) and mega hit “In and Out of Love” (featuring Sharon den Adel) have cemented his place as a formidable production force to be reckoned with. So it will certainly tickle fans to know that we found out Van Buuren is hard at work on his fifth studio album, so much so that he has enough material to fill two discs. “I have about 21 songs that are serious candidates for ending up on the final product,” he offered. “I have too many tracks. I just hate the fact that you can only put about 78 minutes on a CD, and I don’t want to really go with, like, a double album. “A lot of the tracks I’m really happy about, but they’re not finished yet,” he continued. “The opening track is something really ambitious. I recorded live strings, live drums, live guitars, everything for that track. It’s a ridiculous intro.” Van Buuren remained tight-lipped about who helped out in the studio, except to tell us that for some of the work he kept things in the family. “I can tell you that my brother will be involved again,” he said. “He’s a guitar player and I’ve used him on a lot of the tracks and he helped me with writing a lot of the melodies.” The as-yet-untitled album does not have a release date. Van Buren was scheduled to perform in Poland on Saturday at the A State of Trance 450 show, but due to a plane crash that killed 95 people, including Polish President Lech Kaczynski and his wife, the event was canceled “out of respect for the casualties.” The event will be rescheduled at a later date. “The A State of Trance Crew, Alda Events, MSM Events and all the artists involved would like to express their deepest sympathies to all who have lost their loved ones and the people of Poland,” a statement reads. “We wish you the best and strength with the horrible loss.” For a complete list of all of our exciting content from Dance Music Week we have a complete list here , thanks to the good folks at Ultra Records. Taking Back Sunday’s Adam Lazzara Talks Reunion, ‘Group Dynamic’

‘There’s this excitement and urgency embedded in the songs now,’ the frontman says. By James Montgomery Taking Back Sunday Photo: Brian Apppio Taking Back Sunday’s last album was titled New Again , a rather appropriate handle for several reasons, chiefly because they just had replaced singer/guitarist Fred Mascherino with new axeman Matt Fazzi (but also because, over the course of a decade, TBS had shed something like five different members). So one has to wonder what their next album will be called, because — to the delight of many — they’ve mended fences with former members John Nolan and Shaun Cooper (and parted ways with Fazzi and bassist Matt Rubano), bringing the band back to their 2002 Tell All Your Friends heyday. Perhaps Old Again ? “Well, having John and Shaun back in the band has nothing to do with any of the old records — it has everything to do with being happy and what’s good for the group dynamic,” TBS frontman Adam Lazzara told MTV News. “Because if things kept going the way they were going, there wouldn’t have been another record at all.” Lazzara wouldn’t get into specifics about just what drove the band to split with Fazzi and Rubano, only saying that “it started to get to the point where the thing that used to work to our favor — the five totally different personalities — started to get to a point where it worked in the opposite way,” and added that he holds no ill will towards either man. Quite the opposite, in fact. “Every person you encounter in your life, you learn a little something different from them, and I think that’s a cool thing. I had an opportunity to share this big part of me with these two guys, and they were both amazing,” he said. “[Fazzi] turned me to a lot of different bands and he exposed me to a lot of new ideas. [Rubano] was one of the best bass players that I’ve ever seen. With him, a lot of times, I remember getting lost in what he was playing. Just thinking about the conversation we had, it makes my stomach knot up … but it got to the point where the bad times started to outweigh the good.” What he would expound upon was the first meeting with Nolan and Cooper, who both left TBS under decidedly weird circumstances (chalk it up to “personal reasons”) which were so heavy that Lazzara didn’t speak with Nolan for more than seven years. Until January, when — at the insistence of drummer Mark O’Connell — the two got on the phone together and the drama of past disappeared almost instantly. “Mark had some crazy ideas, and sometimes they’re dead on. And one day he called me and was like, ‘Hey man, what do you think about us going back to our original lineup?’ And I was like, ‘Are you crazy? I haven’t talked to John in like, seven years. I don’t know if he’d want to do it,’ ” Lazarra said. “But he kept bringing it up, and then I got a call from John, and when he called, it felt like no time had passed. It felt like we had just talked a few days ago. We didn’t start off talking about making music together — we were getting reacquainted with what had been going on in our lives. Because for me, I genuinely missed his friendship, and same with Shaun. “So when it started, it was more like I was happy to have this person back in my life. And then as those conversations went on, we started to send music back and forth … and we were realistic about it. We both thought, ‘There’s a great chance this might not work,’ ” he continued. “But then it got to the point where we were like, ‘Oh man, I think this could work.’ So we got together down in Texas, right near Juarez, Mexico, and right when we walked into that room and strapped instruments on, and the songs were just there. And what would typically take Taking Back Sunday six months to do we did in a week.” Inspired, TBS announced the reunion to the world , and they’re already making plans to get back into the studio to flesh those songs out. The plan, according to Lazzara, is to record with Eric Valentine (who recorded their 2006 album Louder Now ) and hopefully have an album out later this year. But just what will the new (old) Taking Back Sunday sound like? It’s still too early to tell. “With us it’s all growth, all the time. The music is always trying to move forward,” he laughed. “It’s not the kind of thing where we went in and all sat around the table and were like, ‘OK, this part has got to be like something from the first album.’ All I know is that there’s this excitement and urgency embedded in the songs now. You can’t fake it.” What do you think of Taking Back Sunday reuniting? Let us know in the comments below! Related Artists Taking Back Sunday

Apple Working On iPad Gaming Attachment?

I spent a long time talking about the Apple iPad with my new gang/80s tribute band The New Futurists last night, and while opinion was mixed in the group as to who was going to buy Apple’s new device, one thing was clear: No one was certain what they would do with an iPad if they had one. Except me: I’d use it to play games, and it looks like Apple is taking steps to make iPad gaming more user-friendly. A patent application revealed by IntoMobile indicates that Apple is working to address one of the main problems in iPad and iPhone gaming: The controls. Having your avatar and your control scheme on the same surface is problematic for gaming — your fingers totally get in the way– so Apple is patenting a gaming attachment to seperate the two. The attachments envisioned basically transforms your iPad/iPhone into a gaming rig by adding a frame with a joystick and button combination. Apple is also looking into adding variations of the game-frame that include a camera, vibration, microphone, and an accelerometer. Apple’s patent also covers technology that lets you use your Apple devices with your TV and stereo via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, so you can stream video and audio to your TV and watch 24

Spokeo.com Free Personal Private Info Too Easy to Access. Protect Your Online Identity Now!

A new website is giving people too much info, private info. Unlike Google, this new website, Spokeo.com, can aggregate and condense personal info from hundreds of different sites and place it all into one handy report. This is web stalking to the next level. The new website, Spokeo.com can even get info from social media networks like Facebook and MySpace. Even scarier, it can find your credit info and home address, as well as your phone numbers. It finds your info through other random sites with your business listings, housing listings, marketing surveys, phone bills, census information, phone listings and more. Since it’s online and new, there aren’t any laws that really limit it. So for now, we may be in danger of having too much info too readily available to ANYONE. Thought there is a way to protect yourself and your loved ones from the Spokeo.com free personal info listings: 1. Go to the new website Spokeo.com 2. Search for your own name. It’s possible to narrow down the search for yourself by adding your city and state. 3. If you get results, click on your own name and address in the list of all the results. Go to the info page that was listed for you. 4. Copy the long URL of that page. The URL is the page address of your unique name that comes up. It should be in your web address bar on the top of your browser and should start out with a look something like this – http://spokeo.com/search…… 5. Now you will have to open the site by clicking on the link that says “Remove from Spokeo” 6. Paste the URL of your own info that you found earlier into the space that asks for your URL. 7. You need to put in a valid Email address. This email will be used to recieve a message and confirmation from Spokeo.com with a link to complete the removal of your name. So it must be a valid email address. You can set up a new email address if you would like so as not to give your old one. 8. Enter the code that is given to you and then click the link that says “Remove from Spokeo” so that you will be removed from Spokeo.com. 9. Finish the process by checking your email for the email that was sent by Spokeo.com and click on the link provided by Spokeo.com. 10. Try searching for yourself again after about an hour. If it did not work, try doing it one more time. Make sure your name is gone to protect your personal information and identity. If it is still there, repeat steps then if it again does not work. Try to contact a Spokeo.com representattve. Please do inform your friends and loved ones about this so that they too may protect themselves. More info about Spokeo.com is available online. Microsoft: Xbox 360 Isn’t Getting A Web Browser

Having access to Facebook and Twitter on Xbox Live are adaptations of commonplace Internet use for console users, but it’s not the true Internet. The web browsing experience on PlayStation 3 isn’t what one would call “enjoyable” or “ideal,” but it does provide access to a much larger experience. Despite that, Microsoft has told Edge a web browser isn’t on the radar for Xbox 360’s future. “We really believe that the web browsing experience on TV is a poor one,” said Microsoft’s Xbox group product manager Aaron Greenberg, “and the real magic is to take those web experiences and optimise them for the living room. That’s what we did with Netflix. So, sure, you can go on the PS3 and go to Facebook and and try to navigate, but it’s an absolute nightmare.” Neither Microsoft nor Sony’s solution allows me to completely disconnect from my phone of laptop when either console’s turned on. Considering Sony hasn’t updated PS3’s web browser in ages, however, that experience doesn’t seem to be interesting the company anymore. If one of them can give me native YouTube and Hulu experiences in the future (E3 would be convenient), we’ll be onto something. [image credit: firing squad ] Source: Edge Have something to share?
