Taylor Swift Releases "Call It What You Want," Praises Joe Alwyn!

Taylor Swift, whether you love her or hate her or somehow manage to be indifferent, is back. She's owning the “snake” label and turning it back on her detractors. Her new album comes out sooner that you could believe. But you don't have to wait that long, because she's dropped a brand new single — and you can listen to it, below. What was the first thing that you did this morning? (Wait, don't answer that) The first thing that I did this morning was check my phone, and I'd received an iTunes email telling me that a new Taylor Swift song was available. YouTube had already notified me that she had a new video available. It's a lyrics video, but still — it's the debut of her new song. Taylor has been teasing the track all week, on social media platforms like Instagram and Tumblr. (Taylor is known to interact directly with superfans and address them by name on Tumblr in particular) This song, “Call It What You Want,” is only the fourth single that Taylor has unveiled from her new album, Reputation . As we mentioned, in addition to the iTunes release, the song came out in a lyric video on YouTube. We'll be honest, it's the weakest of Taylor's new singles … but it's also quite possibly the most informative. See, “Call It What You Want” is widely believed to be about Joe Alwyn. Note that Taylor's previous single, “Gorgeous,” which possibly includes North West's voice in order to taunt Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, is also basically universally believed to be about her current boyfriend. Seriously, the whole song sounds like gushing over Joe Alwyn , if not by name. That was “Gorgeous.” In “Call It What You Want,” Taylor gets to that … but first, before she gets into the relationship stuff, she talks about how she was wronged. “My castle crumbled overnight / I brought a knife to a gunfight / They took the crown, but it's alright.” Her career spiraled out of control, as she predicted when she first expressed to Kanye that she was leery of him mentioning her in his song. (Which we know from the shadily edited recordings that Kim later leaked) She speaks frankly about how she deliberately vanished from the public eye in order to let things cool down. “All the liars are calling me one / Nobody's heard from me for months / I'm doing better than I ever was, 'cause.” Why is she now doing better, you wonder? Here's the chorus: “My baby's fit like a daydream.” We don't know of any photos of Joe Alwyn shirtless (which is weird, for an actor, right?), so we suppose that we'll just have to take Taylor's word for it about his fitness. “Walking with his head down / I'm the one he's walking to.” Rumor has it that Taylor and Joe have been meeting covertly to avoid the public eye throughout their relationship. “So call it what you want, yeah, call it what you want to.” Ah, yes, the part of the song with the song's title in it. “My baby's fly like a jet stream / High above the whole scene / Loves me like I'm brand new.” The “high above the whole scene” line clearly refers to how they can avoid public judgments and rumors and haters by just being separate from them. And the “loves me like I'm brand new” line, of course, refers to her reputation not being a factor in their relationship. And then, again, the title. “So call it what you want, yeah, call it what you want to.” You guys, Reputation drops in one week — on November 10th. It will be interesting to see if her relationship with Tom Hiddleston made it into a song. It will also be interesting to hear how aggressively she calls out Calvin Harris. Kim might have never had the opportunity to drop those recordings on Snapchat if Calvin hadn't thrown his little tantrum on Twitter first. Anyway, we can hardly wait. At last, when Reputation comes out, we'll know which song is our favorite. And we'll get to see how it compares to 1989 .

LeBron James Is So Cheap, He Won’t Even Pay $4.99 A Month For Pandora

More here:

Source: Thearon W. Henderson / Getty LeBron James might be one of the highest paid athletes in the world, but he still doesn’t like to pay for things when he doesn’t have to. James and his newly reunited teammate Dwyane Wade sat down with one another for an interview to talk about what it feels like to finally be playing with one another again, and the conversation is hilarious. ESPN’s Rachel Nichols interviewed the two and released a snippet of the soon-to-be-released full interview, and both Cavs players seems to be in great spirits. She asks Wade who the cheapest player in the NBA is and then asks if he thinks LeBron is really jealous of his hair. My chat w/ @KingJames & @DwyaneWade debuts during MNF but here’s a little preview of what happens when you get best friends back together pic.twitter.com/O2KYjik3FT — Rachel Nichols (@Rachel__Nichols) October 15, 2017 When talking about if LeBron is cheap, he first tries to deny it, and then whole heartedly admits he’s not paying for anything is he doesn’t have to. The conversation goes as follows: Wade:  “He ain’t using his phone if it ain’t Wi-Fi.” James:  “No, I’m not doing that. I’m not turning on data” James:  “No, I’m not doing that. I’m not turning on data roaming. I’m not buying no apps. I still got Pandora with commercials…I’m not.” Nichols:  “You know you’re rich, right?” James:  “I’m not paying for it. I’m not paying.” Gotta love his frugal ways, even though he’s nearly a billionaire….. Pandora even jumped into the party to let LeBron know they could pull a few strings to hook him up with a free Premium subscription. Hey @KingJames how about we hook you up with a Premium account so you can ditch the commercials? — Pandora (@pandoramusic) October 16, 2017 LeBron has been accused int he past of being a terrible tipper, but once confronted his team said the inappropriate $10 gratuity for an $800 bill was a misunderstanding. Celebrities do, however, always get criticized for spending money recklessly, so we can’t be mad at James for wanting to keep his money long for a long time.

New Details Released Surrounding The Death Of Kenneka Jenkins

P olice reports and witness accounts surrounding the death of Kenneka Jenkins were released on Friday, providing new details related to what transpired before her body was discovered inside a suburban Chicago hotel’s storage freezer, reports the Chicago Tribune . Newly released police reports and witness statements offer details in investigation of 19-year-old Kenneka Jenkins' death https://t.co/ZPSjPLDsfh pic.twitter.com/i3roTiRroG — Chicago Tribune (@chicagotribune) October 14, 2017 According to the news outlet, the newly released information quieted the conspiracy theories that were swirling around her death on social media. Several interviews—conducted by police officials—with people who were at the hotel party where Jenkins was last seen alive indicate that she was intoxicated. Witnesses say she was drinking cognac and wasn’t “acting like her usual self” that evening. They told police that she ended up walking off alone after her friends left her in a hallway so that she could search for her keys and cell phone. The report mentioned that the employees at Rosemont’s Crowne Plaza O’Hare Hotel checked surveillance footage and law enforcement officials intervened after Jenkins’ loved ones filed a missing persons report. After the discovery of her body, many people on social media deemed that foul play was involved in her death; prompting authorities to turn there for leads in regards to who was involved, reports the source. One witness contacted police on September 11 claiming that an acquaintance of Jenkins was involved with a gang and may have been paid $200 to have her killed. The report mentions that some individuals believed that Jenkins was “sold” for that amount of money. A friend of Jenkins told the police that the $200 overheard in a Facebook Live video taken at the hotel party referred to a parking fine for using the hotel’s lot without a ticket. Many people who watched the Facebook Live video claimed that they heard Jenkins calling for help, but the same person said that the “help me” they heard was from a Chief Keef song that was playing. The Chicago Tribune reports that the police documents show that Jenkins’ body was discovered by a hotel worker on September 10 in a walk-in freezer that was inside of a walk-in cooler. When her body was discovered she was lying face down with one of her shoes off. She also had a small incision on her foot, but there weren’t any other signs of trauma. It still remains a mystery as to why the freezer was on if the kitchen wasn’t being used. Police reports also show that Jenkins’ mother— Tereasa Martin —rejected the police’s requests to have her daughter’s phone examined as part of the investigation because she didn’t believe that there was anything suspicious on the phone, reports the news outlet. According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office, Jenkins’ cause of death was hypothermia with alcohol intoxication. They also discovered a drug that was used to combat migraines and epilepsy, but there were no illegal drugs found in her system. Jenkins was laid to rest on September 30. Her mother’s attorneys filed a motion on October 6 for the hotel to preserve the security camera footage from the night that Jenkins went missing. Kenyon Martin Regrets Clowning Jeremy Lin’s Locks: ‘Never Meant To Be Racial’

Source: Doug Pensinger / Getty Retired NBA All Star Kenyon Martin told Sports Illustrated that his comments about Brooklyn Nets guard  Jeremy Lin ‘s locks were just playful banter, not racial hatred. K-Mart also revealed that his joke that Lin wants to be black caused some trolls to call him “nigger,” while others messaged his son. Martin said, “I recently erased the post off my page. People were sending messages to my son. Like, no. Say whatever to me and about me. I have thick skin. I know what my intentions were. But then those are the things that are coming across. You n—– this. Your n—– that. Sports Illustrated has the full interview, here are the highlights: Kenyon Martin: This was never meant to be racial. It was thought of as what would’ve been done in our locker room. It would’ve been jokes. We would’ve been making jokes. It’s far from racist. I guess saying “Wanting to be black” made it racial. But I despise people that look down because of race. It was meant to be a “Ha Ha Ha” moment. If you watch, I was laughing in the statements. It got taken too far. I wanted to clear the air. I don’t know Jeremy. He’s had a few crazy hairstyles before and I had the same thought process: ‘WTF.’ But I wasn’t trying to be racist. I didn’t even know he did the Players Tribune thing. RN: So to be clear, what was your intention? KM: If you listen to it, I was saying he wouldn’t have made it in our locker room. We would’ve made jokes every single day. He is a grown man. He can rock whatever hairstyle he wants to rock. People missed all of that. Just like I’m a grown man. I can say whatever I want. RN: Anything else you want to get off your chest? KM: I have no problem with Jeremy, man. People were attacking me, calling me racist or n—–. I didn’t call him any kind of derogatory thing. He has the right to rock any hairstyle he wants. It got out of control. It wasn’t meant to be anything more than banter. Jeremy is an athlete and I would hope he understood that this was in fun and not to offend and as long as he’s not offended that’s all that matters. I wish him well. RN: Have you spoken to Jeremy?  KM: I DM’d him after the fact. I’m a grown man. I can admit if something got out of control or if I did something wrong. I’m trying to get his phone number as we speak so we can clear the air.

Trump Just Made It So That Your Employer Can Refuse To Pay For Your Birth Control

Source: TEK IMAGE / Getty Trump just dealt a divisive blow to a Obama era mandate concerning birth control. Now employers will have the right to deny birth control coverage based on religious grounds, prompting criticism for several prominent groups advocating for women’s reproductive rights. The decision, handed down by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services no longer demands the no co-pay requirement instruction for employers. Critics propose that the move could impact millions of women though a study by Health & Human services touts a severely lower number, alleging that only 120,000 women would be affected. The new mandate would allow employers, including nonprofits, private firms and public traded companies, to halt offering contraceptives through health coverage if the employer finds “sincerely held religious or moral objection,” according to CNN ‘s report. A second part of the mandate would allow employers to refuse coverage if they find any moral conviction, not particularly tied to religious beliefs. Several organizations including the American Civil Liberties Union, the National Women’s Law Center, the Center for Reproductive Rights spoke out against the administration’s decision.  According to CNN, the ACLU plans to file a suit against the administration on Friday. These groups ascertain that birth control is not only aligned with pregnancy prevention, but also treats hormonal imbalances and severe conditions like endometriosis. More than 55 million women  in the U.S. have birth control with zero co-pay, according to the NWLC. The organization released a study in 2013, reporting that the Obama era mandate saved women $1.4 billion in birth control pill costs. Here’s How Journalists Of Color Practice Self-Care During The Trump Era

The rest is here:

M ost people can agree that 2017 has not been an easy year. For journalists of color, the stories we are called to write and report on have been heart wrenching, tear-jerking, and downright triggering to produce. But we continue to wake up every day, fulfill our callings, and get this money because we were taught to power through anything that threatens our livelihood. Here are some of the things Ione Digital journalists do to calm themselves in the face of crisis: “ I realize that when the news cycle is brutal, it’s more important than ever to allow yourself to unplug. For me that means I sign off Twitter, leave my phone on silent, and zone out with a good book or a face mask. It also means helping others, whether it means reaching out to see how other colleagues are doing or finding a way to help with charity work.”  –   Jada Gomez, CASSIUS Deputy Editor “I find laughter, whether it’s via a movie or my friends or a funny joke on Twitter. Being able to laugh about something often allows me to decompress and relax.  I also listen to music, which might be my biggest refuge in this crazy world. Looking for new material, new artists, or just feeling nostalgic and playing something old allows me to go to another place. Sometimes,  I write it out. Writing about my thoughts and feelings helps me identify and acknowledge a lot of things about myself. Even if it’s for me to see and no one else, seeing how I feel on a page or on a screen can sometimes show me a different perspective.”  – Cory Townes, CASSIUS Associate Entertainment Editor “ I give myself permission to tap out. I turn on my favorite ‘reality’ TV shows and zone out to decompress my mind. Red wine helps, too. Lots of wine.”  – Keyaira Kelly, Hello Beautiful Staff Writer & Producer “ I cry sometimes. No apologies. I remind myself that if reporting/witnessing death and destruction doesn’t occasionally move me to tears, particularly as a parent whose babes have to thrive in this world, something’s wrong with  me .  I preach to the choir: I only check for my most woke crew when I need to vent about the crazy and feel affirmed that my point of view is actually what’s sane. Whether on social or in real life, when it gets thick, I only seek the bona fide, unwavering wise ones.  I puff, puff, pass.   I mean, if it was legal. When in serious need of less stress, I might throw on a robe, relax, indulge, eat Munchos and talk shit while not watching the Kardashians or  Antique Road Show .  Might , you judgmental freaks.”  – Kierna Mayo, Senior Vice President of Content and Brands “ I choose what I consume.  I haven’t watched [footage of] the LV shooting and I probably won’t. I have the power of what I watch and I don’t have to watch violent acts towards people. I also do this so these things aren’t normalized in my mind.  I   call someone I love.   Sometimes these acts can make you feel helpless. However, there are people that I love and who love me and no time is a better time to let someone know how you feel about them than now. Also: d eep breathing.  It really is powerful and calming and a stress reliever. Try it!”  – Danielle James, Hello Beautiful Style & Beauty Editor “ I’ve gotten back into therapy, which has been very helpful. I also take time away from social media and prioritize spending time with my loved ones in ways that I haven’t in recent years. In the past, I’ve been more inclined to ‘drink it away,’ but I’ve actually been indulging in alcohol less and turning to the ‘mighty herb’ instead (legally, of course). It does wonders for my anxiety and helps me sleep, which doesn’t come easy these days.”  – Jamilah Lemieux, Vice President of News and Men’s Programming “ I pray.  It sounds cliche, but it’s gotten me through during some of the most difficult times of my life. There’s a sense of calm and serenity it brings, which definitely helps me get through.  I also talk to Nana.   My 93-year-old grandmother has seen it all; it’s an added blessing that at her age she’s still sharp as a tack, lives on her own, is pretty self-sufficient and is in great health. Whenever I feel like all is hopeless, she always knows how to put things in perspective as she’s powered through the toughest of times from war, segregation, and political turmoil to extreme poverty and death.  I also watch ratchet TV.   Sometimes a bit of escapism is all you need to get through. When I’m feeling overwhelmed with day to day stress and the current the state of affairs a little  Love and Hip Hop  or  WAGS  messiness always gives me a much needed laugh.”  – Marielle Bobo, Executive Director of Style & Special Projects “ I try as hard as possible to zone out. I’ll say a prayer, listen to Solange or Lauryn Hill, and just vibe out. Watching pointless reality TV also helps. I refuse to watch the news after six, I like to wind down as calm as possible.”  – James Love, Associate Editor of Style & Culture “Some work weeks are crazier than others, but I try to carve out time for exercise no matter what. Meditation and stretches in the mornings. Yoga after work. Sometimes it’s a jog. Whatever the activity, getting lost in my body allows me to tune out the noise and tune into myself. I journal whenever I find my thoughts making a mess of themselves. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed or anxious and can’t place my finger on why. Since I’m visual, seeing my thoughts on paper helps me sort them out and find solutions. A typical morning commute is me scrolling through my timeline for headlines while packed on the 1 train, but if I need extra ‘me’ time before I shift into work mode, I’ll read a book. Books have been my number one escape since I was a child. They’re a place of solace in turbulent times, and sometimes getting lost in someone else’s story is just what I need to take the edge off.
